      @mindyourbusiness4101 maybe in some states but in the majority of states and on a federal level there is no gun registry. A serial number at most will only tell you who was the last person to buy from a legal gun store was. Cops don't have a way to check this unless a crime was committed with that weapon and can only tell if the serial number was reported stolen

    • @Telecom186k
      @Telecom186k 15 дней назад

      @@antolivdiaz Steven Dettelbach said there is a federal searchable registry and proved it. I have video proof of him saying so on stage. Plus, when the assassin shot Trump, the feds knew within 30 mins if the gun was stolen or belonged to the shooter. that wouldn't be possible without a seachable data registry. There are too many millions of files to search by hand to know within 30 mins. Steven Dettelbach described the process how they sort, convert to data and store the paper files in shipping containers.

    People have always legally been able to build their own firearms without registration, the term “ghost guns” has become a buzz word in the last handful of years. That definition also includes purchased firearms with the serial number scratched off.

      theres no serial-to-owner registration in the states, or in most states as far as I understand it.... So whats even the point of having or not having a serial number, and AFAIK when producing a firearm yourself which is as you said truthfully legal, you have to stamp a makers mark and number on it. Thats what i've seen from 2A youtubers.

    Felons aren't allowed to have guns and are caught with them on a daily basis in America. In many cases, the serial numbers are still intact. *The only thing this does is potentially help the police trace the chain of custody of the weapon, but that serial number never prevented this weapon getting into a felon's hands.*

      Those people are operating on the basis that in nearly every country in the world other than the states at the time of purchase the firearm is registered to an individuals ID.
      So there's at least a beginning point chain of custody to get a lead, and at the very least you could know its manufacture date, and what FFL's it was transferred to prior to sale..... But yeah, for sure, any crim with a "Hot" firearm is most likely going to ditch it and cop another before their next adventure, and I bet they wont be buying from a reputable outlet.
      It's wild to me that there is no registration, and no safe storage laws in the US, but I totally get it, you give them an inch and they take a mile, which has happened here in Australia.

    Seriously, 4-500 million KNOWN is the key. We are probably 3x that since prior to the GCA serials weren't required. Most serialization was done by manufacturers to track year, lots and inventory control. So things passed down or traded over generations isn't counted in those this is also technically by their definition a spooky pew

    It's kind of arbitrary that the lower receiver became what defines the gun. I would say that the barrel is more important. It has stricter heat tolerance requirements and I would assume that it has to be from a very good quality metal; I am not sure if 3d printing it meets those requirements.

    One wrong statement is there not that easy to make or assemble. I’ve watched videos on them years ago and I know a lot about regular guns. To incorporate plastics and extreme heat knowing how to use a milling machine and 3d printer can be tricky. if I’m not mistaken 3d printed guns have been banned for awhile.

    the entry point to manufacturing ghost guns via 3d printing is quite high.
    first, one must acquire the skills of 3D CAD - proficiently.
    but even before 3D CAD, something even more fundamental must be understood - ballistics and mechanical engineering - and this here is the most difficult as it actually requires math skills.
    so most skip the engineering part and just use 3D CAD and 3D Scanners and do some minor modifications to the 3D model - and this here is where it can get dangerous because of lack of knowledge in engineering.
    one slight miscalculation in terms of material fatigue and energy release and a ghost gun can literally explode in the user's hands upon firing or prematurely failing after only a couple shots fired.
