"I'm Not Your Hero" Lyrics:
Standing where I am now, standing up at all
I was used to feeling like I was never gonna see myself at the finish line
Hanging on to parts of me, hanging on at all
I was used to seeing no future in my sight line
Sometimes it feels like they wanna remind me
Send all those villains after me
I'm not their hero
But that doesn't mean that I wasn't brave
I never walked the party line
Doesn't mean that I was never afraid
I'm not your hero
But that doesn't mean we're not one and the same
Feeling like I am now lighting up the hall
I was used to standing in the shadow of a damaged heart
Learning all I know now, losing all I did
I never used to feel like I'd be standing so far ahead
Sometimes it feels what I recovered you lost
Sending your peaceful loss to me
I'm not their hero
But that doesn't mean that I wasn't brave
I never walked the party line
Doesn't mean that I was never afraid
I'm not your hero
But that doesn't mean we're not one and the same
Sometimes it feels like the side that I'm on
Plays the toughest hand, holds the longest stand
Sometimes it feels like I'm all that they've got
It's so hard to know I'm not what they want
Sometimes it feels like the side that I'm on
Plays the toughest hand, holds the longest stand
Sometimes it feels like I'm all that they've got
It's so hard to know I'm not what they want
I'm not their hero
But that doesn't mean that I wasn't brave
I never walked the party line
Doesn't mean that I was never afraid
I'm not your hero
But that doesn't mean we're not one and the same
I do my best to walk the finest line
Till I've had all that I can take
dont you just love that instrument in the background thats like "oooohweeee"
is not the just but the most.
Yes.
Tegan is the greatest instrument ever.
That's a guitar
Thank you Tegan and Sara! Awesome surprise. Can't wait for Heartthrob. Definitely planning an epic release dance party.
amazing song I ever heard
feel ya girl....
Even as a soldier I was afraid 😨 even in both UN tours you may call that. And in your music your lyrics you write about the battles in your life and yes you Tegan and Sara are both my heroes ❤ in Andrea Lynne da mon chi chi and the magic keys heart ❤ mind body and soul anyone against the LGBT plus is a Hate Crime 💖 Andrea Lynne Inouye
Amazing as always!
It's 2017
thats not auto tune its just an effect on her voice or multi tracking lol
I gotta say though, I love when they do their amazing live acoustic performances; and in this album it seems like that wont really happen. Whatever, they can always play their old songs. :)
why autotune?
why?
Enrique Iglesias - Hero
Boom. This song is just perfect in so many ways.
I cant believe this album is ten years old now! Still as fabulous as ever!
I love this song. It's a must listen before I go to work. I have a lot of responsibility that rests on my shoulders and this song helps me to power thru those tough days. And after a hard day. It's played a lot!!!
can you guys believe they aren't considered mainstream! they are way better than most mainstream singers and have way more songs than most mainstream singers. it's unbelievable
jjm2412 They've outlasted dozens & dozens of 'mainstream' artists who came & went. They've built their band over 15 years & are truly inspiring.
jjm2412 I’m glad they are not .. keeps them special and sacred
Come on, now!!! I first bought their CD, This Business of Art, back in their garage alt rock days in 2,000. Nearly every song was good. I've followed them ever since. I can't be the only one.
This Business of Art is not the first cd...
@@ThePeachJames He didn't say it was. He clearly said it was the first of their CDs he bought...
Help! I listened to this with LaFerry subtext and now I'm crying!!!
+Haley W Thank you very much -_- :'(
Congrats on surviving Season 2, Creampuffs!
Still love them after Heartthrob was released and I really admire their courage in changing their style of music. Most artists just stick in their comfort zones. Though I miss how their shows used to be and those banters, but still I will support Tegan and Sara for changing my life!
When I listen to this, I have to think about Carmilla...
GayLaura You're in the comment section of like every video I watch.
Satan v2 Maybe we're soulmates? xD Or we're both so fucking gay. xD
+GayLaura Well now that Laura posted it on her tumblr, it is kinda official ;)
(also hi, slay!)
YEAH TRUE!!!
Love this song!! It can apply to so many people, in so many different life situations... totally did for me....
Their voices and harmonies are as good or better than ever... Even the newest album sounds great live and they are still very acoustic and in tune with their audience... Hearthrob got them more noticed in the States, so that's pretty awesome... I wonder where they go from here? I believe this was their last contracted Album for the Warner Label....Hmmm!!
This song is the center of my universe
For any fans of this song and/or The Murderbot Diaries, this is a really nice animatic that beautifully frames this track to the story of those books.

Am I the only one that has a hard time watching the audio-only videos? When listening to them, I just want to look at them while doing it, lol. They're so damn beautimus.
Well, the only reason they make audio videos is so people can listen to them in the background of doing something. Your question is like asking "Am I the only one who has a hard time listening to music videos?"
I understand why they make them. Not like I was trying to make some profound statement, just talking about how hot they are.
If you have a Penis , there not interested ...lol
Absolutely love this song.
Me too dept of corrections radio station brought me here today 😉
I can't believe that I found this song just now. It's perfect and relatable in so many ways. I love it
There was a great comment here for a while, now it changed but I think you guys should know it -
"Taco and Salsa new single - I'm Nacho hero'' xD
I don't remember who posted that comment, but Kudos :'D
I heard this song for the first time about 2 weeks ago when I flew to Germany with Air Canada and immediately fell in love with it
i love thjis whole album
Yep, it's one of those albums where you never skip a track
lanene93 ikr?!?!?! Every song on this album had enough to be its own hit. All very catchy tunes every.single.one.
Lulu Pencil sent me here.
Pencil Army!
There are a lot of comments saying that they have never heard of this band. Listen to their songs "My number" (awesome) and "All you got" from their "Business of Art" album. In fact the whole album was awesome. It was released in 2000, and back then, I went through 2 CD'S of it (those were the little plastic discs they use to play music on in ancient history). These girls have been the bomb for a LONG time.
now I feel old ;_;
+Tony Tonytony I discovered this group about a month ago, and am loving them.
KEEP LISTENING!! Go deep into their discography, because I honestly can not tell you- there are just a million songs by them that are FCKING INCREDIBLE. Just to throw some out there listen to- "The Con", "Take me Anywhere", "Monday, Monday, Monday", "Love Type thing", "Alligator", "Superstar", "Dark Come Soon", "I hear Noises", "I'll Take the Blame", pretty much every song they have written, including all unreleased tracks, are gorgeous works of art.
This song is fucking amazing
They need to play this on the radio!! It's a must and Tegan and Sara songs can NEVER be "overplayed" They are too perfect!
2021 y’all songs still fire and amazing but I wish y’all get y’all on students to take over the channel and help it grow
i am loving these new girl groups!!! (new to me anyway)
i love this whole record and song :)
Bottom line....this is a really, really great song!!
I am absolutely LOVING their new stuff! I love how they have been so versatile with their music during their career. I love love love them. Seriously. I could cry.
I remember this song came out on my birthday, I was having the worst day but then I listened to their song and bang! Love at first sight! ♥
THIS IS PURE GOLDDD
I can't stop playing this song!
Thank you both for this song!
It was my anthem song when I stood up for my gay apprentice and my boys chose to go to a cult that said I was a bad influence!
Guess what now my Gay apprentice is now my best friend!
And my boys don’t talk to me.
This song was therapeutic for me knowing that I had to stand up for what was right!
Even though I lost fam.😞🙏😽✊🏾
Heard this on radio while driving. Song is hauntingly beautiful.
Amazing song. So catchy, sexy, upbeat and addictive.
i'm nacho hero XD
+Jessica Beltran I'm nacho problem XD
+ALBITW KAJAJAJAJA xD
stop making cheesy jokes. (no. please don't stop :) )
My favorite song.
For everyone who claims they're "selling out", here's a quote from them I recently read about Heartthrob, aka their self-described "pop album":
"When you say ‘pop’ these days, everybody thinks Katy Perry. We mean pop in the very 80's sense: hooks, keyboards, lots of vocals.”
Now will you all please just shut up?
I have listened to this atleast 10 times in a row already atleast, Sara Quin you really outdid yourself..
I'm not your hero, but that doesn't mean that I Wasn't brave
I love tegan and sara and if there was any song I wished there was a video for this is it! I wouldn't say it's my favorite but it's up there but it had the potential to be a great video!!!
This song is indie pop perfection. One of my favourite songs off one of my all time favourite albums.
2019 anyone???
I'm T&S lovers from Indonesia^^
Yes!
Ughh they need to be main stream!! they're music is too good!
My new favorite song :o)
remarkable lyrics
This song still gets me every time 🙌❤ Its gotten me through so many huge life events. Thank you, Teagan and Sara
love it
I think it's a testament to their music that I've listened to this one time and it's already stuck in my head.
They say the word mean so beautiful
R u gonna make a video for everything is awesome?
Its bad that I only hear it on the radio now...
No definitely not, you aren't the only one. I totally thought this was a new song and I too, just heard it on the radio for the first time yesterday. lol
Lol. Whoops! :3
Simple, people bought into the idea that we need free trade to progress as a society, and that has replaced free human beings. Doubt we ever had enough free thinkers to carry the promise of democracy anyway but from here on it is definitely all downhill. Caring more about some undefined collective goal instead of real people is what brought about the downfall of all so called "great" civilizations. Or where they really that great?
Huh ...? ? ?
This is definitely one of the best songs they've ever made. 3 mins 55 secs of perfection.
Every musician I ever met knew or had a relative In the Armed Forces. I feel 😪 musicians ptsd in their songs 🎵 and that is therapy true therapy and like you and I and every musician ptsd started at early childhood. Sara and Tegan you are my heroes ❤ too Andrea Lynne Inouye
Hmm warner brothers...interesting
Anyone else here from the Murderbot Diaries fandom?
No, is there an amv for it or something?
@@Tsuki17 yes, a very good one
There's definitely a new pop sensibility to their music, but they seem to do it better than everyone else. There's a level of creativity with their melodies and a realness to their lyrics that makes it so worthwhile. It's almost like taking the best of both worlds. Can't wait to hear the new album. It'll probably be a healthy mix of ear candy and disappointment.
I love this song, I listened for the first time in a flight in Air Canada and I love it
Reminds me of Taylor from worm ;-;
Do you know this new remix of I Was A Fool by Mr. Melo D? Its awesome!!!
soundcloud.com/mr-melo-d/tegan-and-sara-i-was-a-fool
I havent heard this in 7 years! Great song.
Words can't even express how much I love Tegan and Sara.
My goodness, they have like 6 albums before Heartthrob. If you don't like this album or their new sound then don't listen to it! It's not like their previous stuff is gone. There is nothing wrong with experimenting with different music, and you know what? It's fucking amazing and I love every song on Heartthrob and so do many fans old and new. They want to try new things and not be pigeonholed. If you do, that's cool. They don't and that's cool too. Why can't you just respect that?
Who is here just because they have always loved tegan and Sara !
I NEEEEED to see them live!
It's a different feel, but I'm digging it.
Tegan and Sara never disappoint me.
the lyrics are wonderful
We just made a video cover for this song! It would mean a lot if you guys checked it out! It's the featured video on our profile :) Thank you!
- Zach, Dylan, Kyle, McKinley
I like this best as the live acoustic. I think it's the singular voice. 'still like the overall feel, but I like the value of the singular voice.
Holy crap. Love how poppy this new album is.
They specifically made this album this way to expand their sound. They wanted to do something that scared them. And they like it. That's too bad that you don't, but it's really not up to you to decide who the true fans are. Tegan and Sara were interviewed about the sound of this album, on CBC radio. Go listen to it. Maybe you'll understand that their music is their own, not yours to decide. Duh
I'll say this: as much as this really isn't my type of music (I do prefer their older sound, but it's their band and they can evolve in whatever direction in which they feel led, and stagnation is the worst way for a band to "die"), I actually like Sara's half of the album quite a bit. Tegan...her stuff is a lot more hit or miss (and I usually prefer Tegan of the two), and comes off pretty cheesy at points.
The lyrics, there about ebing knocked down and then finally being able to stand but then whoever or whatever knocked you down comes back to haunt you. Or it means that Im tired of people considering me a hero and having to always give my shoulder for someone to lean on. Theres a lot of meaning there! I could go on and on. Just read the lyrics from a lyric video or something and then whatever it means to you is most important(:
Tegan and Sara change their style pretty much every record and proper fans still back them every step of the way. They're still great musicians, just because their style has changed doesn't mean they're bad now... Having said that, why you bringing Tyler into this, that twitter comment he made was disgusting and why are you bringing it up just because a band you used to like makes music you don't like anymore. Fucking immature.
I am soooooo sorry for all the people who are so closed-minded and who feel forced to fit and listen to a certain genre of music...because thats how you miss out on the feeling of excitement in "Closer", the heartbreak in "Messed up" and a whole lot of other really intelligent and honest "Popmusic" like this song... it's just beautiful and I love guitars and Rock and all that... but I think the most important thing about music is to get a feeling or a message out...but that's just my opinion :)
Change is apart of growing as a musician, not staying detained as a one-trick duo, which is exactly what they're doing. Many artists these days come out with music, and all the songs sound the same. A true artist evolves, and that's exactly what Tegan and Sara are doing. They make music because it's what they're good at, it's what they love. Don't judge, especially the people who call themselves fans. Change is apart of life! Adapt, or just don't listen. No-one wants to hear whiny complaints ab
This is beautiful. I wish people would stop bitching about how they sound different. i actually enjoy the difference. it's nice to change it up once in a while. who like hearing the same goddamn thing over and over. People say this is mainstream..okay i guess 80's pop is mainstrem nowadays. LOL i think not. There are so many artist who could do exactly what they've done but are afraid to shift and go against of what they've always and what is trending.
Okay, I like it. Its different. But its good. A step forward. Yes, they are signed to a major record label. Yes, they are moving towards a more "mainstream" pop sound. But they are still the same artists we all love. And if this is the music they wanna make then we shouldn't be complaining. If they start getting played on the radio I'll probably be a little upset. But only because they mean so much to me. And I feel like if they get tons of new fans I wont feel as close to them as I do now.
I hate comments that are like "i don't care about the haters". You can still be a passionate fan and still love tegan and sara, yet still be able to critique certain aspects. and that doesn't mean y you are a hater. It's just kind of frustrating when you've been attached to certain albums such as the con or sainthood or even so jealous, and now all of a sudden it's like bam, let's throw a 180 in yo face. ok i'm done ranting.
You know, they got many new fans because (!) they dared to try something different. They might have lost some, too, but they definitely found new ones as well! I mean, you do see that they are getting more popular? Since so many of you are complaining exactly about that. I'm in Germany, and I've only heard about them half a year ago. I am happy I did. :)
the minute an artist "sells out" is the minute they start selling their music. Every artist "sells out" whether they are mainstream or not. At the end of the day Music is a business and to keep making it you must make money from it regardless of musical styles or musical directions. More power to them i say if they have made it mainstream!
so are you saying if we don't love their new sound, we're not true fans? nice. i like their new sound, but i don't like how sara said that she wrote most of this album as if she was writing it for a popstar, not for herself. it seems a bit, not as real as their other music. and i'm allowed to have that opinion and still be a fan.
You're right, for all I know this is the direction Tegan and Sara have chosen to go in. I just can't imagine why they would do that after having such brilliant songs on the past six or so albums. I know I dislike Warner Bros and this percussion style, so I admit I am completely biased on this subject, but it really breaks my heart that Tegan and Sara would go in this direction.
If the words were enough then they should've written poetry. This overproduced T&S with obnoxious 80's percussion is NOT good. I've bought all of their LPs and have many of them on vinyl, but if the songs on the album sound like this and Closer then I will absolutely not buy this garbage.
I don't understand how people don't see how mediocre this song is.
Why would you be afraid of that? If someone walks up to you and said "hey I found this new group etc..." you reply "Awesome! I've liked them since [insert classic t+s song here] you should check out their older stuff!" As to being played on mainstream radio, sure it's annoying to hear some song overplayed, but Tegan and Sara deserve it don't they?
I'm sorry, but these new songs are nothing like their past work, and I prefer a rock/acoustic sound from them. Everyone is going the "electro" route and I didn't expect Tegan and Sara to follow suit. These songs also lack the catchiness of past songs. I'm still eager for the album. I just hope it's better than what we've heard so far.
Be happy that they are actually making money now and maybe theyll make
some new music like they did their older stuff now that they arent slaving over
hours of no sleep to make new tracks while working another job and having it
rough, i dont know if you noticed, but they are human... O: ikr, shocking
Oh come Theyre newer music isnt so bad. Sure its not like "Living Room" or even "Clever Meals" (Two of my all time Tegan and Sara Songs ^_^) But its still damn good to me, no matter what they play. I will always love every song of theirs. Especially "Hell" and "Call It Off"
I think people who are saying that are recent fans (ie since the con) since they are unaware of how the band has consistently been changing their sound. Its amazing that they can stay so successful and arent afraid of losing support by developing as artists. Thank god they arent carbon copies.
wow, what a change. can't even call this indie, it might be but it simply doesn't sound like it should be. compared to their older stuff this isn't even close to worthy. This isn't bad, i don't like it but that doesn't make it bad, but it is not what i listen to Tegan and sara for. terrible change.
That's an extreme example. Comparing the complexity of this compared to, say, floorplan, is much different. Floorplan is even more simple than this and yet this sounds like a very shallow pop song, whereas Floorplan sounds like a deep and meaningful song without even paying attention to the lyrics.
