    Hey guys, Warning about ZSNES! It doesn't work on Windows 11 at all because Windows 11 requires 64 bit installation, of which ZSNES is only designed for 32 bit operating systems.

    Surprised BizHawk and Mesen weren't mentioned... probably understandable as they're designed to cater to niche technical hobbies (tool assisted speedruns and hacking/homebrew dev respectively) rather than general game playing... but if you're involved in those interests at all then these emulators have some of the best tools around.

    I used snes9x on windows and I was able to key ins controllers no problem. I just downloaded the Mac version and I just realized that the entire “config” tab up at the top is gone. Completely nonexistent. I can load and play the games like butter, but I can’t connect or set up any kind of controller. I can connect a ps4 controller that is somewhat usable if I change the “controls” setting under the “emulation” tab, but I only get directional keys and a start button-it basically turns my controller into a glorified computer mouse.
    Anyone have any advice?

    I've mostly used zsnes (back in the day anyway) It would be nice to have an actual comparison since it's never been clear to me what it means when an emulator has high precision emulation.... I mean....16 bit graphics....how much precision is needed? zsnes always seemed perfect to me. I played tons of games and don't remember any issues (only megaman x2 comes to mind when it wasn't possible to emulate it due to the 3d effect in the intro, but that was later fixed) Other than that everything seemed fine. Can't imagine what the other emulators "emulate" better...

    ZSNES should NEVER be recommended! Not only is it NOT hardware accurate, but there is an active way to execute arbitrary code on the host system and install malware through the emulator itself.

    Retroarch? really. Dont know if the first place is important. If it means its the winner.
    If it does, well i disagree, but only well on my part in my case. My experience is not as great, like with some cores awful. But its only me.
    Also i find those overlays distracting i like plain blackness.
    If emulating SNES... BSNES or SNES9X is the way to go. Both tried and find them cool. Sure might be not the precisest of them all, but both good enough.
    Also RetroArch is just as good as the cores in it. Without them, it would be only a nice well i think it is a frontend for cores, u can do also nice things i mean the games and all, adding them to categories launching them nicely from one place, yeah, i see the appeal but still.
    Id likely go with launchbox (bigbox) and standalone emulators. I think.
    I dont know everyone has their preference. RetroArch is really not mine, at least for now, maybe itll cchange in the future.

    • @ShandellJames
      @ShandellJames  Год назад +3

      I respect your opinion, and to be honest, I use bsnes inside of my launch box. But it's just something about those overlays that make retroarch look cool. Especially if you're recording gameplay, it just looks good on screen.

    • @everx7
      @everx7 Год назад

      @@ShandellJames for sure, i can tell, but u know if id play like that id be watching ever so often on that side or the other and me personally get distracted, at least in the beginning if probably in time u get use to it, it wont be as distracting but i dont know i really like the black, but as most ppl i like cool stuff, so experimenting with it, or use it in recording fits fine. In video it looks cool must admit, better then black bars :).
