One of my all time favourite songs Cracking collaboration between Bernard and Johhny, with great backing vocals from Deise Johnson Wonderful and fresh 30 years on
Yeah when this came out I was a junior in high school! I was lucky that I lived in the SF Bay Area and listened to the radio station Live 105! They were a modern rock station that played all kinds of amazing things! I am saddened by the fact that it took me until like October of 2019 to realize it was people from New Order and Pet Shop Boys and stuff! I have loved those bands forever but never put 1 and 1 together loL!
This was played in the Queen Vic during a 1991 episode of Eastenders that came on Drama the other day and immediately, I knew that I'd heard it before but had forgotten the song name. Some Googling brought me here. Classic! :)
This extended version appeared on the 1991 album. So it was a completely suprising experience to listen to the original, seven years later. Now it's 2019 and still one of my favorite tracks ever.
Eric Shans I agree. In my Top 100 songs of all time. When she loses it at the end, I would turn my car stereo way up on my black 1987 VW Cabriolet and sing along with her. Fuck it, Im 47 now and I STILL DO...
I've loved songs from the 70's right through to 2018. But this is my all time favourite. What an absolute Classic. Never tire of listening to it. 9 listeners should stick to watching TV.
When I first heard this song on RUclips I think it was kinda ok. Then I found this version, when I decided to give it a try it blew my mind by such beauty. Now this is one of my favorite tracks.
I've always thought of you as my brick wall Built like an angel, six feet tall Six feet tall And when you go away, I start to weep You're too expensive girl to keep Isn't it sweet? I don't know where to begin, living in sin How can we talk? Look where you've been I've counted the nights of living in sin How can we talk? Look where we've been Take my independent point of view I've loosened my wallet, thanks to you Don't do me any favors Hark, the herald angels sting Please repair my broken wing Why won't you look at me? I live and breathe Blame it on appearance It might seem A shame that we're Not you or me

just absolutely love the wah wah peddle waaaaaaaahhhhhh wwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh Waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh...........Reminds me of living in Amsterdam......Living in sin......hahaha...xxx girls backing vocals at the end are "SQUALITY"
80's/90's Alternative power group. Bernard Sumner (Pet Shop Boys), Johnny Marr (The Smiths), and somebody else from another band, right? I forget, but I loved them.
This by far the best version, I bought this on vinyl when it came out, was it early 90s ? and it sounded great, that's why I was saddened to here the muffled versions on youtube . Been listening to Coldplay and even though they have all the latest sound technologies, the Electronic album is still amazing
I cannot make it out properly! I hear the 'blame it on appearance' line, but then after that I think that I can hear 'ain't my scene', 'the shame of the world lies with me'.
One of my all time favourite songs

Wonderful and fresh 30 years on
RIP Denise Johnson. Your vocal on this track genuinely gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it. You were such a lovely person. Heartbroken 😑🖤

One of the most underrated collaborations ever. I'm forever grateful to have been through the 90s when pop music was at its peak.

"Hark the herald angels sting, please repair my broken wing." Who says Bernard can't write lyrics?
Correct me if I am wrong. Is the last sentense of the lyrics is "blame it on appearance it may seem that we are , not you and me." ?
I cannot make it out properly! I hear the 'blame it on appearance' line, but then after that I think that I can hear 'ain't my scene', 'the shame of the world lies with me'.
Some suggests another verse... "Living on peanuts ain't my scene
A shame that word rhymes with "mean"
Wilhelm Reich Orgone energy here.
Lusine did a good a version of this
Nice homage to ABC's "All of my Heart" :)
Holy brickwall limiter, Batman! Swap out the audio with a better quality one, OP!
