I disagree. It's much more plain and sound-polished, more mainstream. Also, the percussion seems dumbed down.

I would say that's a hard NO! Just remember the Original Had to be a MASTERPIECE for them to even think about covering this song. It's ok to be it's great yet one still needs to show massive respect to the Original. It was groundbreaking for 2001! 21 years later it still holds up.
To my ears, this is a boring Pop version of an originally interesting Project Pitchfork song.
But Pop appeals to the masses.
I miss those wonderful club days of the 90s.
