Rest In Peace Denise Johnson who provided the wondrous backing vocals to this track. A true Manchester legend.
Thanks for posting you comment, I didn’t know this. Have you heard The Memphis Sessions Primal Scream with Denise singing Free…..it’s off the scale
It’s defo on Apple Music, dunno bout Spotify
She had a Manchester voice we all loved and she was so underrated. Rest in peace Manchester bee. 🐝
Denise Johnson was great. She did backing for Bernard Butler too.
I also just discovered Denise Johnson was the singer who sang at the very end of this song and I've been trying to figure out what she's singing for the last 30 years! Anyone have a clue?
Memories of a train journey from Doncaster to Edinburgh, listening to this on cassette single over & over until my batteries ran out!
Im from donny too. And i agree total feel good music
Yes... my walkman was fitting just fine these days
Haha you liked it then.
You can make it all in time.
Helen Christie my journey was back from Leeds uni to Stafford but same scenario😍
Backing vocals by Denise Johnson who sadly passed away recently.
RIP
That’s so sad I had no idea it was her! Just learned of her death a couple of days ago
@@yasminx16 such a distinctive voice God bless her
I just randomly DL'd an instrumental version of this song w/ her background vocals still prominent. It made me want to look up info about her, and I found out she just died last month. At least her voice will live on forever.
wow, denise has died. i didnt know that. her backing vocals here are awesome. RIP, denise johnson.
🗣Denise played a huge part in Screamadelica going hand in hand with Weatheralls production.
She was that Soulful House vocals that complimented the new direction the ‘Scream’ were going in!
***RIP -Denise!****
Living through the 80’s & 90’s was a breeze, cracking 20 years for some classic tunes. If you were there, you know what I mean 😂
👋¡ESTUVE ALLÍ!!!! Y lo sigo estando cada vez q en la radio pasan esa música 🎶😊🇦🇷
I know what you mean I lived it too 😊
If you were a kid and clueless about the world, yeah. Not so easy if you were one of the millions of unemployed in the 80s and early 90s.
I too had spells of unemployment in the 80's but they were really really good exciting times. I couldn't be young right now... what a shit show of a toxic world its turned into, people are awful & music in general is just utter shite... late 80's early 90's best time, best music, better people... No comparisons...
We had the best times ever. What a privilege ❤
Johnny marrs guitar sounds are absolute class.
Johnny Marr is a guitar master.
In my opinion Bernard is not far behind
30 years to the day of its release. Thank you Bernard and Johnny and also thinking of the late great Denise Johnson and her amazing vocals.
Adds a lightning sparkle to it
I've only just discovered this.
We’re does time go 😢
2023 and still here. this songs always lifts up the spirit. Joy devision with the Smiths and with the Pet Shop Boys, what can one want more?perfection song.
We’re twins with our taste in music 👍🏽❤️
I've only just found this. It's beautiful ❤️
Everything that Bernard Sumner turns his hand to manages to soothe my soul. The partnership with Johnny Marr was inspired, producing such melodic and melancholic songs that I still love today. Timeless.
One hundred percent agree. That perfect alchemical mix between melody, harmony, emotion, memory.Bernard and Johnny were terrific.Know every word to each of the songs.
Johnny Marr. End of conversation,
Ahem: Johnny Fucking Marr. Thank you. ;)
Yeah. No argument here.
Totally agree!! 👍
The best British guitar player bar non!
Damn straight!
perfect song, criminally underrated ...
I couldn't agree with you any more!
The most underrated album of the time.
Johnny Marr and Bernard Sumner what a combo. Get the message, this has to be my favourite Electronic track, great stuff. 👏
“you can make it all the time”. RIP Denise x
Amen!
I remeber in 1991, my last year of school playing this with the Violator album on my Dixon’s ghetto blaster (taped from radio1, remember that?) & driving my parents bonkers. I left school that summer and had my mind blown away by Terminator 2. What a year 1991, bravo!
I'm here from seeing a Facebook post saying this was released about now in 1991. Brilliant, brilliant song.
Every time i listen to this SUPERB track it takes me straight back to my late teens. Our local was The Essex Barn, the incredibly cool pool hall/bar/pub/weekend rave club that i very luckily had in Braintree in Essex in my youth. This was the first place we started drinking at 16-17 years old in 90/91. This awesome track featured on The Barns laserdisc video jukebox (The Size Of A Cow by The Wonder stuff was another that permanently lodged into my mind to form part of the soundtrack of my time at The Barn) I got my first girlfriend, expanded my group of mates, first played pool, got drunk, first car and more all occurred around this time (90-92) They were such incredible times and this song in particular really grabbed hold of me. Maybe a year or two later i got well into New Order and it wasn`t until later that i realised that Sumner sang this too. So i remembered New Order and Joy Division from my younger years as a little kid and into Primary and Secondary, then Electronic in my late teens and twenties. Great times that i miss immensely.
RIP Denise Johnson thanks for the superb vocals which lift the outro to a different level
Electronic ,, what can you say?
A band way ahead of it's time.
One of my favorite songs of all time, listen to it when I need to remind myself of the beautiful girl that I once was...
Yeah... it takes me back to simpler times, too! 🙂
You're still beautiful!
Wow, I felt that..
I don’t know you, but know you still are!
You’re still beautiful.
Such a seriously great song.....and an early nineties classic.
This song has a Bond theme vide to it. Class.
This track really did signify the end of a wonderful era for me. I had been a real 80's music freak & this was my last year at school. The turn of the 90's saw some pretty weird stuff out there which did nothing for my musical appeal. However, once in a while great stuff like this came along.Gone were the beautiful, warm fuzzy tracks that made me feel good in the 80's. Welcome to introspective tunes like Get The Message which told me that every great thing must ultimately come to an end.
RIP Denise.Enjoy singing with the angels. You’ll have the best voice x
Ridiculously underrated. Listen to this compared to the utter shite we're force fed these days! No comparison!
Too right! Up the Vikings!!!
I did see it on MTV Classic not too long ago.
Still love this to today
Mate it’s 2020 and the music is even worse than when you wrote your comment.
Problem with music these days is simple, it's social media that's to blame. Back in our day if we had something hing to say or express then we'd with a song or poem or something about it, even non musicians like me, nowadays if they have something to say then they just post a status or a fkn meme, get 20 likes and job done.
Amazing band. The days of proper songs. Extremely underrated. You never hear their songs on radio. Would love it if they reformed and did something new!
Greatest hits radio with Rossie, he loves this. So do I!
That is because all the radio DJ's are 20 years old with absolutely no music history whatsoever.
Johnny Marr plays this in his set, granted Barney isn't there so he sings it but it's still class.
Saw him live with tha Charlatans the other night
Brilliant. Sumner + Marr = Quality. Cant believe this was 1991. What a great year!
The 12" "cassingle" of this was stuck in the tapedeck of my purple VW bug for an entire summer and I didn't mind because it's an amazing song and every mix is epic.
No one plays the guitar like Johnny Marr.
This just ticks all the boxes
I love that my 23 year old son just told me that he's been looking for this song forever, after hearing me play it for him as a little child.
How lovely ❤
You did good.
❤
25 years anniverary of this song....one of the top 10 UK hit single Electronic ever had. Severely under- rated
25 years already..feeling old now. A great song with such variety of sound that just blends perfectly. Very few songs from any group do it as well.
These top pop lists can feck off. New Order and, through Sumner, Electronic, have greater acclaim and following that any top of the pop could ever enjoy, and for so many years!
RasputinWatchSite I agree
Holy shit. I've not thought of this tune in tiiiiiiiiiiiime. Autoplay gave it to me. & I can instantly sing all the words. I was only half way through secondary school when this came out, and today I turned 46. 32 years.
Duuuuuuuuuude.
Definitely expresses life in that time - sickly as it may sound to anyone under 30 yrs. old - the speed of life, the additionals that were part of it all for musicians, artists, money poles., heady, yeah! destructive, yeah! but of the time.
For all those still left running, God Bless you for keeping ahead of the ‘80’s marathon.
Love always, bless you, Jane
I bought this cassette back in 1991 and listened to it over and over again as I played football on road trips!
Bought album on vinyl from Woolworths & played constantly, improves like a fine wine, Respect. ✌️🌎🙏
My personal favorite on this album and never understood why it didn't get the airplay it deserved.
They played the arse off it on UK radio
01.2020 I had to come here and listen to this masterpiece 😎
.
Edit: Still here at 05.2023 and celebrating the 32nd anniversary of this masterpiece 🙏🎸🙂
.
Edit: 01.2024
Still listening to this masterpiece 🙏

@@thierrymailland6444 present!
As the music really of the last 2 decades has not compared
Masterpiece 👌🏻 couldn’t agree more.
TUNE! What a time to be alive!! 🙏🏾✌🏾👌🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Having been a New Order devotee for 30 years,it will come as little surprise that I was a serious flag-waver for Electronic...they played out the backdrop between the end of my A Levels,my first marriage...all kinds...Still brilliant to this day...
Neither Bernard or Johnny have written a duff song. I think they've had it drummed into them not to.....which is no bad thing.
I'm not really into much dance oriented music, but bought this album when it came out in '91. Probably on the strength of this song. Loved it then, & still love it today. It's one of those pure pop songs so full of joy.
30 years old !!!!! Never ages and just a classic.
Oh to be 16 again... loved it then, love it now!
Ah excellent song from the days that Holland was still Dutch!
WHAT?
When i was 15 and i use to walk the streets of Valdivia Chile. Love still this one
No way...I wouldn't survive second time around....
Man I was 16 in 91, what a great time to be alive! Had some amazing memories. Hell 1 year later I seen The Prodigy live... Twice! 😂
Such great song , I love this music . Thank you Joy Division for being the predecessor of all this great music.
Still the best song Marr played in. Still the best song Sumner sung in.
Johnny Marr agrees with you.
my favourite johnny marr riffs are girl afraid & handsome devil, but i do love this song too
new order meets the pet shop boys! could only be a good thing
Smiths, not Pet Shop Boys
Neil Rimanets both! Neil Tennant was part of Electronic.
@@helenchristie6530 Actually, he was just a guest on two tracks, and this wasn't one of them. Not to taking anything away from him though, Getting Away With It is a fantastic song.
@@binkey3374 it was three he was on getting away with it disappointed and patience of a saint
@@jamestierney4596 Thanks for clarifying!
I was looking for this song for years , it’s outstanding
Excellent tune from 1991 which I still listen to in 2019, this makes modern day music look tripe.
Your right today's music is utterly shite and I'm into metal plus I've got it on my phone for the memory's of the time
2022
@@archie12345 and me archie Lad. 👍
@@giveusanepleasebob992 such a class tune
@@peterbird2918 still listening to it in 2022, awesome track!!
New order and the Smith's give birth to a masterpiece.
@Engineer E28: Don't forget the Pet Shop Boys too on several of their hits: Get Away with It, Disappointed and Patience of a Saint.
I'd forgotten this great song! Remembered "Getting Away With It" & "Patience of a Saint," but so glad youtube suggested this one for me...
A song to travel to a place that brings you peace and good memories
Just found this again on radio 6,brilliant even 28 years on .
I heard this on the radio about 20 years ago but didn’t hear who sung it. Was then on a mission to track the song which I eventually did!
An instant falling in love occurred one of my favourite all time songs 🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶
Synergism is really what Electronic is all about... I can hear the separate parts from the combination of the guys but then they take it to a whole other level! Long live these brilliant Brit boys bringing bright blends by boisterous beautiful beats.?.
Electronic was a synthpop supergroup!
Still an absolute banger.
Bought the album as soon as it came out , as predicted it was/still is magnificent .
Soviet ❤
This makes my soul soar x
Still have my cassette single of this ☺
Very cool
I've always thought of you as my brick wall
Built like an angel, six feet tall
Six feet tall
And when you go away, I start to weep
You're too expensive girl to keep
Isn't it sweet?
I don't know where to begin, living in sin
How can we talk? Look where you've been
I've counted the nights of living in sin
How can we talk? Look where we've been
Take my independent point of view
I've loosened my wallet, thanks to you
Don't do me any favors
Hark, the herald angels sting
Please repair my broken wing
Why won't you look at me? I live and breathe
Blame it on appearance
It might seem
A shame that we're
Not you or me
These were brilliant.
Mixing indie guitars with synths, powerful girl vocals on backing ,
I think I even copied Johnny Marr hair style around 91 or 93 . I was at school :)
One of my most favourite tracks ever❤️
***** two of the coolest talented Mancinians there is spot on.......🇬🇧
I was 19 when I bought the LP the week it was released and still listen to it now - amazing album and this has always been my favourite track. The opening guitar part makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! Fantastic backing vocals by the great Denise Johnson - and that bassline - it’s just perfect.
I was an 18 year old high school senior when this came out in 1991. Two musical legends, and to think Marr was only 27 years old! What the F were you doing at 27?
Starving.
Married, had my first house mortage,, a white collar job, and the so-called American dream, now drastically reduced to only a small percentage of the public, but still widespread back then.
Please repair my broken wings.
Ah, 1991. Whatever happened to those halcyon days? The music, the weather, the girl I first loved....
the bernard I once loved....
We still have Johnny to love.
I share your sentiment about 1971 as well…
Sounds as fresh and brilliant now as it did then. Perfection. 👏👏
Best comment here, as I look through them. It is indeed pure pop perfection, but I was more taken by the first half of what you said, there. An incredible talent, Barney Sumner. And there are plenty of New Order tracks that still sound as if they might have been written yesterday.
I remember this so much I was 18 years old in Brazil happy good time with my friends from school it’s very nostalgic for me thank uuu eletronic ❤️🥰
I have had this song in my head for days trying to recall who the musicians were. So today I Googled who sings the song "I don't know where to begin living in sin" and viola....Electronic! Oh my God talk about a song taking me back to a special time when I was living in LA. This song....this song...
electronic were magic. the perfect mix of two brilliant musicians. i hope they come back and do something new soon
ONE OF THE BEST SONGS - FROM THE GREAT YEAR 1991...................(: (MY TIME)
Same here
Graduated in 91 ... what a special time ... this song brings back the sweetness!
damn it... 22 years ago and I still see it fresh...
I think it was 1991 I heard this ...I was instantly hooked , way ahead in sound also very stylish 😚
I think Free will was the B side ...I used to blast it on my Old ferguson stereo. ...
love those backing singers ! !
and mahers guitars. .....
amazing collaboration, i've been listening for 30 years and still absolutely amazing
There is no doubt 80s music is the best .. GO 80S FANS ❤❤❤
mmm this was 91
This is 90s
I love this record, as I love life, thanks friends, you are in my heart.
🗣 Ahh *1989* memories memories!
The epitome of of how good a *pop* tune can be.... perfection!💯👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🔥🔥🔥
Busqué esta canción por mas de 20 años, siempre evasiva, nunca pensé que fuera obra de electronic, a veces solo la escuchaba en la radio a punto de acabar ó en el carro en un alto, coló unos momentos, y decía: es esa! es esa!
Sumner and Marr winning combination .
A true classic ❤❤
Master piece
Excellent 🔥🔥🔥 🥰
Just watching an old episode of CSI. Only the intro was used but heard the chorus ringing in my head. Can't even guess how long it's been. Still a damn good song.
Saw that CSI and drove me nuts for years trying to figure out who it was
I absolutely love this song!!! makes me the happiest!!!!!!
such good memories of jogging on the beach at Jacksonville, Florida....
Cool as fook band, cool as fook tune. Best days ever.. Rip denise.
Beautiful, Real musicians , real music, my how far standards have slipped, we were lucky to see it...
THAT drum roll !
Chris A. And the 🎸
Great memories from my university days.
Used to love 💖💖💖😘😘😘 this song!! So 1990s but brilliant piece of music 🎶. 😉👍
Great tune. Officially an old man now as i hate current music haha!
Same really. Old gits ha!
Although there is still a bit of good music out there, just not in such vast quantities or as high calibre song writing.
+John Darling I'm an old git too but there is loads of gorgeous music out there. have a hunt and track it down. the best time for music is always 'NOW'
john current music is shit mate absolutely nothing to it.. i could play it twatting a bag of rusty spanners lol
Just look past the charts mate.
At what age do I become old?
Still loving this in 2019. Reminds me of growing up in Manchester, around the age of 10, having no idea just how good Manchester music was at that time. I know now and I'm very proud to have so many talented musicians from my area.
Echo and the bunny men were the best as well as The Beatles oh and Flock of Seagulls.
The beatbox samples and acoustic guitars works so well !!!! masterpiece !!!!!!!!!!!
RIP Denise Johnson
How can this already be 26 YEARS OLD??!! Takes me back to my school days.
30 now...but I hear ya.
Sumner Marr Johnson. Manchester’s Holy Trinity
I remember hearing this on the radio in my early twenties when I was labouring for my old man.Memories.
Glen Phillips memories to live again.. always
lovely song 👌👌
I played the hell out of this cassette, that is, until I bought the DVD, which I play the hell out of!!!
