    Hello Buck and Camera girl, I think the idea of having your Spanish tutor give you information about your area is a great idea. Your medical adventure was pretty interesting. I'm glad everything turned out all right.

      Taking in-person Spanish one-on-one has turned out to be a great value at $10 an hour...I have taken Spanish lessons online at $10 an hour using Verbling and I was very happy with that service, but being here in Cuenca and using a local teacher and talking about local history and custom around the city is an added bonus

    Just returned from visiting Ecuador; the best of my trip was shopping fresh veggies and fruits. I liked all the vendors, super friendly and happy to do business with their customers. Great vid

    I’m happy to have found your travel channel. I chatted with you on your food channel years ago, and I stumbled onto you commenting on another video on Baguio, Philippines- when you chatted that you and camera girl had “itchy feet” to travel. I’m glad you’re happy and doing what you want. My kids are late teens and not able to live on their own, so I’ll be years behind you. Be safe. Be happy.

    Very surprised at how affordable it is !!!!

      me too...and I was expecting Ecuador to be very affordable. We could easily live quite comfortably/semi-lavishly (for us) on less than $2000

    I have lived in Cuenca for over a year. $1500 seems reasonable for me. I live well but not extravagantly. Cuenca is a gem, but it's not for everyone.

      I think CG and I could live long term quite easily and happily in Cuenca on $1500 a month. Staying in an airbnb, even with a monthly discount, likely inflates our rent by hundreds of dollars a month. But you are right, living in Cuenca would not be for everyone.

    That first months budget was a mortgage payment! Just asking are there any house guest like ants or other things that crawl?

    • @SlowpokeTravel
      @SlowpokeTravel  Год назад +1

      we've seen very few bugs here in Cuenca...flies and bees mostly...CG said she saw a palm-sized spider on the side of a building but I've yet to see one. We're staying in El Centro which is an historic and very urban area in Cuenca.

      Cuenca is 8000 feet up so the amount of bugs is low. Coast and Amazon have bugs.

    My husband is Ecuadorian , we prefer the non gringo areas.

    • @SlowpokeTravel
      @SlowpokeTravel  Год назад

      I prefer the less gringo-ee areas as well...we could just stay in the USA is we wanted more gringos :^) ...that being said, it's nice to find folks with a shared experience to hang out with...

    Any thoughts on the latest political developments in Ecuador? Is it a major issue ? What about health insurance etc.?

    • @SlowpokeTravel
      @SlowpokeTravel  Год назад +1

      I don't follow the politics too closely--in Ecuador or elsewhere--I'm aware of the immediate changes going on here, but I don't know what effect that will have on our travels...it's hard to put stock in "the news" nowadays...I just look out the door and that's the news I trust the most. So far, so good. I went to see a doctor here for a check up and had a good experience...we're not going to be here long enough to research insurance and take advantage of any available healthcare options.

      @@SlowpokeTravel Maybe i misunderstood. I thought your video was about living there as an expat as opposed to a tourist.

    • @SlowpokeTravel
      @SlowpokeTravel  Год назад

      We're on a tourist visa ...we're semi-researching potential places to retire, but we're probably a ways from planting roots anywhere anytime soon
