    Water in Cuenca has a good quality to drink directly from the tap. El Cajas is the big source!!

    Cuenca is a wonderful city. I felt VERY safe there as a woman traveling alone. That said, I also felt safe during my two weeks in Quito -- I stayed in the La Floresta district and had no problems whatsoever. I felt like the warnings I got about it were overblown in the end -- people telling me I should never take out my phone to take photos, etc. All of that turned out to be nonsense. It was fine! Every big city has crime. Quito did not feel any different. I liked it there a lot more than I thought I would. But Cuenca definitely outshines it overall. Such an easy city to navigate, and a lot more of a chill vibe, indeed.

    You showed the roasting Guinea pigs that is one of the meat choices in Ecuador. And Cuenca has a great streetcar system. And Ecuador uses the USA dollar as their currency. So that’s easier.

    I was watching your videos about Lima and Buenos Aires in preparation for a trip, and I wondered "has he been to Cuenca?" Ha, just last year. I've lived here in Cuenca for the past 2+ years. Love the video, all that stuff you pointed out, so true. But one thing I wanted to share with you, the tap water in Cuenca is fine to drink. The city is very proud of it and it's a reason we chose Cuenca to live. True, other parts of Ecuador (especially the coast) no way. But in Cuenca, it's very pure, very safe. (Don't forget, no TP in the toilet, only in the baskets, like other places) :-) Sorry we missed you when you were here. (Visitors, nobody wears shorts here unless you're out for a jog or going to the gym, wear long pants, bring a hoodie or a jacket). Also, for visitors, taxis here are very fair and safe. They use a meter religiously. The minimum fare is $1.50 daytime, more at night, so if the meter says $1.35, it's still $1.50. But they are very fair, I've never been cheated by a driver, unlike other cities I've visited (including Fort Lauderdale, lol).

    The tap water in Cuenca is fine to drink. We have some of the cleanest water in South America. :) This video must be pre-pandemic. Because of COVID, not everything is open right now. Masks are required in all public places. Hospitals are running out of beds for COVID patients, so please wait to visit until vaccinations are a little more widespread. The Brazilian variant has sadly made it to Ecuador now, and we don't have very many doses of the vaccine, so it will be a long, long time before the population here is able to be fully vaccinated.

    • @aricarly
      @aricarly 3 года назад

      You can fish in all the rivers freely, although it's mostly trouts. But if the river level is too high due to heavy raining, it's forbidden to be near any river, specially fishing, because there have been cases of people falling in the water, and then drowning because the waters travel very fast and it's difficult to save anybody from there (like 80% of people falling certainly end up dying). But when the waters are calm and in a low to mid level, it's nice to fish there.
