Ecuador is becoming more and more attractive to me for retirement. 🌴
Amelia & JP , love you guys ! My parents migrated from Quito to Chicago in the late 60’s and now are snowbirds that fly back to Cumbaya on a yearly basis. I’m a Chulla Quiteño by birth but living in the US since the 5th grade and my dream was to return after retirement. I even bought a property in Tumbaco with a small 2 br house with lots of acreage. Tennis court, volleyball court, lemon trees, aguacate trees, tomate de árboles, etc…. BUT after the devaluation of the Sucre in the early 2000 caused me to change my mind and sell everything. You two are now lighting back that spark that I once had and return one day to the mother land that saw me for the first time. Hope to meet you on one of my trips back. Thanks for all you do to promote Ecuador. Que Dios los bendiga
I spent today in Cumbaya mostly after watching this video. I just went to both of the malls that you mentioned, but wow!! What a beautiful little place. I'm booking an Airbnb there for a couple weeks, just to get a chance to learn it more. And maybe it could be an option for me to live one day.
The first place I stayed was right across the Scala mall, then I stayed on Fransisco de Orellana, right next to the bridge that takes the Chaquinan trail across the street and then I stayed right across the Ruta Viva, on the foot hills of the Ilalo volcano. My girlfriend's house was right above the Salome Reyes park in Tumbaco. So today's vlog is pretty much a walk around my old neighborhood, thank you for that. Greetings to all the lovely people I met in Ecuador, especially Cumbaya and Tumbaco.
I'll be renting a motorcycle in Quito in early February and riding around the country for three weeks. I've been watching a lot of your videos as part of the prep.
I'm from Quito if you need something anytime just text me... Enjoy your visit
I recently stayed in Cumbaya. It's definitely the place I would recommend to people entering the country for the first time!
It's a great place to start in Ecuador!
Great 2 see you guys. You guys put Ecuador on the map,the good reviews and the nice places to visit....I hope the best for you guys.
Que hermosa es mi ciudad de Quito con su cielito lleno de estrellas, es un edén de maravillas. God bless you
Great stuff guys 👍 Thanks for all that. Nice place despite some of the cons. I really appreciate you both. ❤
Great video guys! Thank you for the plant based diet tips. I love all the outdoor shots you guys take to show what it’s really like.
Always good to see and hear you two. Missing Ecuador but love being back in our home in Asheville.
Merry Christmas and a wonderful Happy New Year for you guys..!.
Enjoy traveling around my beautiful country...!
A great video of a beautiful city. I love that shirt JP! Happy Holidays to you both and a Happy New Year. I look forward to the new adventures in 2022.
Happy holidays!
Great informative video on Cumbayá, thank you Amelia and JP.
Thank you for sharing such great information! I love learning about new cities in Ecuador 🇪🇨
I love your videos I am from Ecuador and I will be in May again after 20 years in USA, I learn a lot from my country from you 👍🇪🇨
Hi JP & Amelia really love your informative videos on life in Equador. My husband and I have discussed moving to Equador for a few years now and seeing your videos really gave us even more reason why we need to move there. We are planning to visit early next year to get first hand experience. Thank you for the videos, keep them coming.
ECUADOR!
Thanks for the review! Love seein you two! Cumbaya, while obviously awesome, doesn't see the right place for us, but we certainly enjoyed your video, as always! Merry Christmas you two!
Merry Christmas ⛄🎄 from Colorado. We are finally getting some nice snow in the mountains and still staying dry in the Denver area. I really love you guys and your content. You do a fantastic job of sharing interesting and useful content. Again, Merry Christmas.
OMG what a gem! Will definitely explore Cumbaya on my next trip to Ecuador 💝
Wow! Amazing, I was in Cumbaya 2 weeks ago. I even stayed in that same Airbnb too, how crazy! It was amazing and as described in the video.
So cool!
Cumbayá and the country clubs around Ecuador (like Malactos country Club, etc) are very beautiful and I would say they have a kind of US lifestyle vibe, Cumbayá also a European vibe because of the Deutsche Schule, the British school and the international community in the city. Nice video 🙌🏻
Season's Greetings Amelia and JP..love you guys and appreciate all the info you are sharing with us! I have totally fallen in love with Ecuador and smile whenever I watch your videos... I am so looking forward to taking a trip someday...Enjoy your holidays🥰🎊🌺🙏
Gracias! Happy holidays!
@@AmeliaAndJP de nada..muchas gracias!!!🌲🎊❤🙏
Actually Cumbayá is just a part of the Cituy of Quito, it is not a different city. Quito is very diverse and you can find differet micro climas, altitudes, lasndscapes within the territory. Also It is not alway rainy in Quito, there is a rainy season. Actually we are near Choco Andino region that{s the reason we have rainy seasons but there is a lot of sunny days too.
You are correct in that politically Cumbaya is part of the city of Quito, BUT it is a totally different community, with different geography, different climate, different values, different lifestyle and different prices …:-).
So it is as if it wasn’t Quito at all.
In fact there is a movement afoot to divest Cumbaya and Tumbaco areas from the city of Quito, mainly due to the the fact that it is one of the largest tax sources of revenue for the city but it only gets back a fraction of what it contributes in taxes to the city coffers. Making Cumbaya snd Tumbaco an independent “Canton”, like Sangolqui in the next Valley over (Valle de los Chillos), would keep our taxes here instead of diluting it into main Quito and wasting it to its mostly corrupt municipality.
I moved from sea level to 6 600 feet and definitely noticed when I had to exert myself. It took roughly 2 years to acclimate.
You folks do such a great job. You’re enthusiasm is infectious and your descriptions make me feel like I’m there right now. Thanks!
Gracias!
Another wonderful video. Thank you JP y Amelia.
Great video! I'm moving to Ecuador (Cuenca) next week, but I will use that as a base to discover if there are any other gems that might be a better fit for me! Your videos are super useful as always!
Hi I'm thinking about moving to Ecuador next year. Are you finding any mandates for MRNA gene injection requirements to move there. I wouldn't think they would be doing that to the Ecuadorian people but you never know. Thanks
Lucky dog! Tell me how it goes!
How you like it?
@@natalias1212 best thing I ever did :) very happy here
@@CaptureJoseph Wow 👍 Great! Where are you end up?
I'm originally from Quito, currently living in North Carolina. Thanks for promoting my country through your videos. Hopefully I will visit Ecuador soon. All the best!
I'm also from Quito and live in North Carolina since 1978.
@@susanarodriguez1675 That's awesome! What city? I'm in Raleigh
Marry Christmas my beautiful HAPPY COUPLE🌲Big thanks for your wonderful videos about my other Paradise! From California big hug🌲🌞🌈🌴🌴🌴
I am convinced that I will move to South America when I retire but I wasn't convinced as to where. Uruguay was and still is my number one choice but you sure do make Ecuador seem very tempting. Maybe I should stay there for a month before finally deciding. Very useful videos, guys!
Hi Rob,
I’m in the same exact mindset that you are!
Uruguay or Ecuador for retirement?
Honest and balanced - well done, and thanks!
Thank you guys for showing Cumbaya, next time I will there too.
Its great that you show some nice places Ecuador has to offer.
I have been in cumbaya and did not know there is a Pacari restaurant ! Thanks to you guys I now know for my next visit. I loved the Airbnb you guys stayed at! Would be great to book the same for next time! Saludo So!!
Merry Christmas to you both! Thanks for all your great videos
Wow you guys are getting me more and more excited about living in Ecuador! STOP IT! LOL
Haha! 😁👍🇪🇨
New to your videos. When you said “Cherry Creek” I almost choked on my drink. I lived in Boulder for 13 years and I occasionally visited tge Cherry Creek Mall.
Small world.
Hello guys! Thank you for another informative video. I wanted to go to Cumbayá on my last trip, but it didn't happen. Amelia, you're getting better in Spanish. Your accent is much better 👍
Gracias!
I loved this video cause I live in Tumbaco so it was nice to see you visiting places that I usually go to =) . Something that I would add is that if someone likes Cumbaya but want something cheaper, living in Tumbaco or Puembo is a great option cause they are really close to Cumbaya but they are not that fancy. Also, about the traffic, lately, there is been more traffic especially because in December there are many events, but even with heavy traffic .... trust me, it is way much worst in Quito
One of my brothers lives in Tumbaco.
Quito is a great place to live . Second to none . Houses and department buildings are made of reinforce concrete they don’t fly or burn . Regards and enjoy.
JP: "And, yes, its IS a real place." Cracked me up.🤣
The Wikipedia page is actually wrong on the elevation. It's actually above 2400m, not 2200, pretty much the same as Cotacachi. So probably it was the placebo effect from going from 3900m at the teleférico down to 2400.
ELEVATION is a major consideration for would-be expats. When we moved to San Ramon in Costa Rica, the elevation required us Floridians to REALLY take time to acclimate ! Also, many higher elevations are beset with WET FOG rolling off the mountains - which ruins leather shoes & clothing (mold). San Ramon was only about 3000 feet in elevation - so I can imagine how 8K or 10K would be !
I think the elevation issue is a very individual thing. I live in SW FL at an elevation of about 6 ft, been here over 30 years. I've spent time in Quito, Cuenca too, have never had an elevation issue that I recognized as such. Walked around a lot in both places, spent totals of probably several weeks in each, never noticed having any of the issues others report about elevation. And I'm 75 years old, how about that! So again, elevation obviously effects some more than others, if you are interested in going to these areas just do it and see how it affects you!
No wet fog in Quito, cumbaya or around there.
You guys did it quite well, again. I love the warm temperature in Cumbaya, I don't like the traffic jam, although. By the way there is an important hospital by La Primavera neighborhood, it's called Hospital de los Valles. Is in the same category of Hospital Metropolitano in Quito.
Thanks for the additional info!
Thank you
Fantastic video. Loaded with great Information...like the fact that the area is lower elevations
Glad it was helpful!
Lois and Peter Griffin, I love you guys! Merida MX is #1 on my list of places to visit but Ecuador is #2. Thx for all the info. Tell Chris, Meg, and Steward hey! 🙂
I ❤️ these informative videos!
I amazed of the quality of your content you guys keep bringing to your viewers. Keeps getting better and your channel is growing too! Congratulations! I hope to be able to move to Ecuador soon.
Thanks so much!
I am not sure when you guys filmed this video, but right now because of xmas all the malls are very crowded and the car entrance/exit as well. Usually is less crowded. Also, a lot of people from Cumbaya moved to Tumbaco, I have heard that there is even a German comunity there. And also to Puembo, where there is plenty of space to build new houses.
I so love you two, thanks for all your videos :8)
Glad you like them!
GREAT information .THANKS for sharing
omg Uncle Thee would make me sing-a-long during church..this is totally a sign💥❤🔥💯
Amelia & JP , love you guys !
Wow it sounds like the place to go I love Cumbaya
Thank you, love Manta I spend a lot of time there and enjoy it, I have a house in Montecristi and it's a 15mins away from Manta if you take the bus it's like less than $1 and a cab is $5. All I have to say is You everything better in Manabi, love this place, cheers
..this is surprising coming from 2 Colorado locals
..when I 1st moved to Denver..did get that elevation flu
but I adjusted..Im surprised they still feel it all this time
still worth it..Id have a beach house & mountain lair👽
Right on about Paseo San Francisco. Very confusing mall! Really enjoying your Quito videos, I miss it a lot.
It looks like an amazing place if not for the elevation. I can't even go to Denver anymore without being nauseated and light headed. Getting old sucks!
I was close to Cumbaya 2020 in Guapulo, i can recommend Guapulo definitely , its also a historic part of Quito
Thanks for promoting my beautiful city and country 😇👍
De nada! 😊👍🇪🇨
Thank you for your comments about Cumbaya.
Another Great video!!
Thanks for sharing video, happy holidays
Good video. I always enjoy them.
This is impressive. I might want to go to Ecuador.
Learnin' somethin' new all the time. 😊
If you are not bothered by the elevation and traffic, Cumbayá sounds like a great place to live, being near Quito but not Quito. All the Cumbayá pros of security, nature, harmony and unity are appealing.... if you can afford it.
We feel the same way!
Greatings, love what you 2 do. I was wondering I never see much law enforcement in all the places you visit. My wife and I are giving some deep thought to travel to Ecuador, with maybe residing there. My wife is very medical minded meaning she does not like to be to far from medical attention.
Loved the review. Definitely enjoy the "man on the street" videos to get a look around and get a flavor of what is to be expected.
Love your sign next to JP's head
Gracias!
Cumbaya is a beautiful place, for Me the main Cons is the terrible traffic and crowds in the area, if you expect to live a very quiet and not too noisy life for sure Cumbaya is not for you.
The weather is 70s year around! that is amazing.
JP where you find that shirt 🤔 … love it 🤩 … and Amelia you’re always in great style 😎
Love to see you guys. From New Jersey
Well, you guys have to make another video and compare it with Samborondon in Guayaquil, and then you will find out where is more expensive!
That's a great idea!
Great presentation as always. I wonder how these places you feature are at nighttime. Are the streets well lit? Where are you guys heading next?
The streets in the cities and towns are well lit. It's pretty dark in the country, though.
Thank you beautiful video
Gracias!
There are flights between Quito and Loja now? Airline? That's what I need when I come Feb... otherwise, do you have an idea of cost for private driver from Cuenca to Loja? This town looks FABULOUS! Doable altitude as well. Super gorgeous. Sure appreciate you showing us around!
Aeroregional has daily flights and Latam has 3 flights a week now (at 6am).
Very helpful presentation. It would be nice to know just how expensive those apartments and condos are so we can make comparisons to help us make our where-to-relocate to easier. Also what is the climate like there compared to Cuenca, or other parts of Ecuador? I liked Cuenca too but wonder how I would do with the elevation, just like JP. After about a week there I started up with the altitude sickness but we left before we could find out if I would have gotten over it.

Cambly looks great.
I'm looking for a possible revenue stream. Is being a mule an option in general, or only when you're traveling to a place anyhow? Plus, does Ecuador have any comic book shops?
Merry Christmas
Still loving Cuenca..
Nice video. I wish you had shown some of the hummingbirds and horses. Lol. I'm a sucker for animals, I guess.
The hummingbirds are too small and too fast to film! I would need a special camera or lens for that! And we're not sure how we didn't get any of the horses in the video. We saw several!

Hi! I'm loving your videos! I thought I heard that you have an electronic book out on how to emigrate to Equador? I can't seem to find it.
Gracias! We have an Ecuador Expat Fast Track eCourse. You can learn more about it here: liveabroadnow.com/ecuador-expat-fast-track-ecourse/

Excellent video again. Would like to know more about Tumbaco’s $300/$500 month Apt rentals. Been in Cuenca 8+yrs and considering other affordable options other than Loja, Vilca, Yung. etc.
Tumbaco, it’s close proximity to more amenities seems intriguing. Where can I find out about a small 2/2 furnished Apartment. Are you willing to go there for your subscribers? Seems you’ve featured a lot more expensive rentals in your videos recently and since Ecuador offers a far lower cost of living than the USA, how about featuring $300/$500 rentals? Please:))
Yes, Tumbaco is on our list of places to visit!
MAC cosmetics is originally from Canada and bought out by Estee Lauder.
Amazing
Omg this looks like my kinda city. I'd love to live here if I could just make enough money .
I had altitude sickness in Lake Tahoe, and I felt horrible. I drank 8 bottles of water in one sitting.
Thank you for your informational videos on Ecuador. For US folks who want to stay there for 2-3 months, would you recommend renting a car for weekend travels? Is it safe to drive in & outside the city?
We know lots of people who rent or own cars and drive all over Ecuador. It’s safe in most areas, but the driving laws are more of a suggestion here. We’ve been here almost 5 years, but have never driven. We have drivers in all the main cities who take us everywhere we want to go.
