Just looking at this list, it blows my mind how the Dreamcast wasn’t a blowout success. Considering it had a really short life span and had this many great games in this genre alone. It was just so ahead of its time.

100% What’s even more crazy is there are games I left out. You would struggle to make a top 15 racing games for most consoles using one game per franchise!

I was so sad when Sega announced they were killing it. Just wish they had some more investment or money to give it another year. The PS2 was always going to win, but the Dreamcast was a great console. Still is tbh.

@@BobbyHo2022 that’s what actually killed ps2 true library anyway the ps2 is under appreciated sometimes it’s absurd when I hear stuff like Dreamcast is the best fighting game system maybe it can be subjectively but not objectively. PlayStation 2 had more fighting games now I agree in terms of capcom fighting games Dreamcast offered more but even ps2 had some of those Dreamcast fighters that were a bit better on ps2 like street fighter 3 and capcom vs snk 2 but just a little and I admit marvel vs capcom 2 was better than ps2 and Xbox port because the sound quality was much better and the game looked a bit more smooth. But ye that’s just capcom people forget PlayStation 2 had king of fighters in its prime, mortal kombat games, the tekken series, soul calibur 2 and 3, bloody roar 3 and 4, virtual fighter 4, guilty gear x2 and accent core, neo geo battle collesuim, samurai showdown 5 and 6 dragon ball z fighting games where in there prime. Sengoku basara x, Street fighter ex3 and capcom fighting evolution were all that was unique in terms of capcom fighters on ps2 which fighting evolution was decent but nothing special and I never played ex3 or basara x but here good things. dreamcast had plasma blade, rival schools, power stone, a better mvc2 port, sf3 double impact version, capcom vs snk 1, jo jo bizare adventure, marvel vs capcom 1
And even then there are ps1 ports of some of these that yes are inferior but still decent ports and work on ps2 but yes In terms of ps2 library alone compared to capcom fighting games library on Dreamcast yes Dreamcast has more capcom fighters. But fighting games aren’t just capcom and in the end of the day PlayStation 2 has more. But honestly if I don’t agree with this it’s still a reasonable claim. Ive heard worse from Dreamcast fanboys like ps2 only has gta, or ps2 has nothing unique I even showed one Dreamcast fanboy some games and they admitted they never heard of some of these ps2 games and thought it was interesting. Why does this happen well because your right it was mainstream because of the dvd and other things like ps1 success but because a huge amount of people got it for dvd and gta that’s how a lot of games got overshadowed like even shadow of the colossus ps2 port sold less than shrek 2 ya even some of the popular ps2 games today failed misreably on the ps2 then you got gta which isn’t even a exclusive having the most sales.
If we look at the most sold games in that generation
      Xbox: halo 2
      Dreamcast: sonic adventure
      GameCube: super smash bros
      And PS2: gta sanaddres
Ye all the other consoles highest selling games were exclusive while PS2 was a multiplat that was on PC and Xbox also.
Nowadays there are people finding out about ps2 underatted titles so some people are noticing it’s library but ye it’s kinda crazy. So ye your right it was mainstream most people didn’t play it for the exclusives even tho it had the most exclusives. But honestly Dreamcast is my 2nd favourite of the generation and it can be annoying some of the ignorant Dreamcast fans I met but in the end of the day it’s still a great console and I see the appeal and why people call it there favourite

Nice list. I'm glad you left the Crazy Taxi games off unlike so many other DC racer lists on RUclips. These games are definitely more driving than racing. I love Revolt tho. The track creator is insane. My friends and I would make tracks that were actually broken, but by hitting wild jumps in the right spot, you could land onto seemingly unreachable sections. It was Trackmania before Trackmania. Good times.

Nice list. f355 was so great. It had an online mode when you race alone and then you will watched the race with the others online players (6 or 8 don't remember). It was a little desappointed to not run live but it was also great because you knew you had to do your best without being bored by others players, and after you've seen the race with players and you did well but not finish first you tried new settings.

What videos like this highlight is how many awesome games were released for the Dreamcast. Being able to have a "top 15" of any genre and still not able to fit all the good games, for a console that only had a shelf life for around 2 years is simply astounding. I love this machine to death, to this day I still consider it being the best video game console in history. Such a massive jaw-dropping leap in graphics, incredible games library... I remember buying it at the time wanting to persuade my friends to get a Dreamcast as well, but they just waited for the "next Playstation" (I don't know how Sony did it, but during one generation they generated an incredible amount of brand loyalty)... When the PS2 released, the games had terrible ghosting to cover the insane amount of interlaced flickering. It looked like crap compared to the Dreamcast. Luckily the PS2 hardware eventually proved itself, but really, so would the Dreamcast if it just had more years on the market, and better sales. I mean, today people have been able to fit 64MB worth of textures in the Dreamcast memory due to its built-in compression technique. They have enabled modern effects like "normal maps" (bump mapping), specular highlights etc...

I could not agree with you more on this one. SEGA wanted to deliver a console that righted the wrongs of the Saturn and they absolutely did. Clean architecture, easy to develop for etc. then their teams had to provide the games and they did. Sadly the promise and hype machine around the PS2 and the fact it played DVD’s (which kept it in the game initially given the games had issues like you mention above). Incredible time to be in gaming if you owned a DC

Trickstyle is extremely underrated and I would consider it to be the best racer on the Dreamcast. At first I hated the game because I kept crashing and losing, but it turned out to have a steep learning curve. Once I mastered the learning curve I began getting addicted to the game. I love the game for the same reason I love Mario Kart Wii - chaotic and tough, but extremely satisfying once you master it. Like Mario Kart Wii, Trickstyle even lets you discover and pull off crazy ultra-shortcuts, some of which the developer never even intended. Did I mention Trickstyle has some crazy textures for a 1999 game?

@@thegamelounge659 Watching speedruns of the game also helped me get good at the game and also gave me motivation to learn the game's mechanics. Even after 100%'ing the game I still come back to it JUST to practice my skills and attempt to do some "speedrunning" myself. A lot of people criticize the game because it's "too hard" but really, it's more of a skill issue on them. This game is frustrating at first, but this isn't a game for casuals, but rather people who are willing to take the time to really learn the game's mechanics and to experience the satisfaction of mastering their skills.
Pro tips: You should complete the guide dude's tutorials first, that way you will have all the tricks unlocked and you will learn everything you need to know. The tutorials can be done at any time, but I suggest completing them ASAP as they are the only way to unlock new tricks, and you will need these tricks for stunt events. To ride the green luge trails, hold up on the analog stick while pressing B near them and you will be flying. If you want to fall from great heights without bailing when you land, let go of the throttle and hold it again right before you land.

Otherwise I realize that I should really buy a Dreamcast, not only because I have 2 sport games at home that I love but also because there are car games that actually look great. "Modern" gaming is a pile of microtransaction/Season Pass and Woke garbage, emulation is the bunker where the true gamer will survive after gaming crashes and burn.

The one i truly love on Dreamcast Racing games was it controller, the analog and trigger button really so precisely, grest for handling.
    My favorites was :
    - Tokyo extreme rscer
    - ferrari f355
    - Daytona
    - sega rally
    - lemans 24h
For SEGA GT, i think it fall behind Gran Turismo, even GT2 PS1 still better on gameplay.

How the *hell* did Speed Devils place above Sega GT???

I think when I made the list I took note of how games held up today. Perhaps in 2000 SEGA GT would have ranked higher but sim racers have come a long way. Whereas arcade racers have aged a little better

Great list! But Daytona is #1 for me. Perfect arcade port and great controls with steering wheel.

Interesting, I have never tried it with a wheel. The controls with the standard DC controller arent great

It wasn't a perfect arcade port, in fact it was criticized for not being faithful to the arcade.

Ferrari F355 Challenge tops MSR and Le Mans in my book.

I can see why people would say that. It’s a real sim game. A Yu Suzuki passion project and the handling is so authentic (at least that’s what I am told having never driven one)
