You are right that Purple was Classically Influenced. That separated Purple from the endless Blues influences of all the other Bands before Deep Purple. If you want to be Enlightened Deep Purple was the first Rock Band to play with a Symphony and the Greatest Orchestra in the World. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Jon Lord wrote every piece for every Instrument and it is a Symphony in Movements not songs. It was Conducted by the Greatest 20th Century Composer who was absolutely enthusiastic about Jon Lords Work. It is Called Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. There are videos of the performance. It was Broadcasted live on British Television. It is very Historic. Jon Lord was Classically trained. You can respect many of his Classical Piano Concerts with big Stars such as Frida of ABBA who was one of Jon's closest friends. The History of Purple and the bands that came from once members of Deep Purple are almost endless. Besides the Beatles Deep Purple is the most Historic band in History.

Coverdale was the third Lead Singer for Purple. Ron Evans was the first. Secondly was the Voice Ian Gillian. Glenn Hugh's with Mark lll was a great singer and is still great to this day.

I just discovered your channel, and I think you guys are great. Instant fan! I've been a Deep Purple fanatic since about 1974... and they have absolutely been my favorite band ever since. I think the version you played was from the Graf Germany '75 concert, which was shortly before Blackmore quit to form Rainbow. Give a listen to the version on the Made in Europe live album, which is from the Paris '75 show... Blackmore's last show with DP until they reformed in 1984. The Made in Europe version is absolutely the BEST live version of BURN!!!!
Also, check out the recent cover by the Deep Purple tribute band "Strange Kine of Women"... an all girl Deep Purple tribute band! They really nail it on every cover they've done!

Favourite Deep Purple Mach 3 track, and kudos should also be eternally-awarded to Mr. Glenn Hughes, on the basis of his dual amazing
performances on bass and co-lead vocals! Great band, classic sound and an influence that is still felt widely throughout various

@@robsco1249 I have said for Decades that Blackmore's Solos on Child In Time and Highway Star on Made In Japan are the two greatest solos ever recorded Live. @@robsco1249 Rob there are countless examples of Ritchie's live Solos. I love the Live in Cologne album. Unfortunately there wasn't a video of that performance but the whole performance is a jaw dropper. It is perfection of Superb Musician ship from every member of the Band. The thing about Ritchie Blackmore is when he felt like it he was visually awesome. Abd I don't know another Rock Guitarist that has sold millions of Albums of Acoustic Guitar. No one has near as much original music than Ritchie. No one has the vast History that Ritchie has. He was a very successful Studio Musician in his middle teens and Ritchie Blackmore was Jerry Lee Lewis's Guitarist on his European Tour beating Jimmy Page out. Jerry tried to get Ritchie to go back to Memphis with him. Ritchie said he was to young. Ritchie with very few others will be acknowledged as a Bach, and Beethoven of the 20th abd 21 Century. History sheds the Popularity and the cream rises to the top. Ritchie has no equal and the facts show that. You have a great ear for excellence. Most dont have that ability and it is fun to be communicating with someone that actually knows what Great is.

You can really hear the underpinnings of Rainbow starting to brew in the songwriting here. It's that neo-classical sound that you mentioned I think. Deep Purple at this time was quite different from their Highway Star days. Either way, great band with more than one memorable sound to them. Blackmore can never be appreciated enough for his contribution to rock.

    CAL JAM...April 6, 1974 Ontario Motor Speedway,
    MK3 lineup.
Have been a dedicated total fan since their first album "Shades of Deep Purple" in '68. Lucky to have lived in "The City", first saw them at the San Francisco International Pop Festival Oct. 27 1968 at The Alameda County Fairgrounds. Last saw them(MkVIII) Sept. 10 2019 at The Keller Auditorium in Portland. In between, saw them whenever they toured the West Coast, including Cal Jam.
There is NOTHING that can compare to them! Especially the MK2 & Mk3 lineups.
To see them "live", is an experience that can't be described!

The audio of the live track is a treat but its not the same as the video footage. Just watch what Blackmore is playing for example at around the 15:40 to 15:50 mark. I play guitar. It aint the same as the audio. Takes nothing away from the track or the fact the more channels that keep this classic rock alive the better of course. So thanks for doing that you unhinged types. Rock musos often get short shrift in musical circles as wannabes who are all about show and ego and not much substance. Make no mistake Purple were superb musos even within the confines of the restrictions of popular music. Tight, inventive, skillful, artistic and yes great entertainers as well. Hardly surprising the group, and Blackmore and Paice in particular, are considered giants, legends, icons of rock music.

Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are the Unholy Trinity, the pioneers of metal.
David Coverdale was part of the Mark III version of Deep Purple. I have been in love with Deep Purple since I was 14, but I am not one of those purists who only stick to one lineup and can't see past any other lineup. I also happen to like some of the later albums, not just the older albums. A lot of Deep Purple fans couldnt seem to get past the past and wanted all the albums to sound the same... apparently.

David worked as a teacher totely unknownd when he red the news that Purple looked for a new singer. This was the beginning of the end for the biggest rock group of all time. David left the group after a couple of years when the band lost their status . David and Glen Hughes ( base ) did their best but couldnt replace Gillan and Roger Glover . Davids Witesnake became quit big in Us but in Europe often criticized for bad lyrics and childish wideos . You cant act as a rock star singer ! You are born a rocksinger........

Gillan was the second lead singer, for four years from ‘69 to ‘73. David and Glenn did one album less (3) but the latter’s funky direction and addiction alienated Blackmore which signalled the end of Purple’s first reign in the ‘70s.
