- Sand is the foundation of our modern society, and I think that's why it's also such an integral part of our video games. I've played quite a few sand-type games... From Dust, Journey... that's about it. But think about how much sand that is. It's a lot.

Mr. Sandman... bring me a game.
Make it a good one or you will be lame.
I don't know why I'm doing everything in song lyrics lately, but I can't stop and you can't stop me.
Get it on Sand: store.steampowered.com/app/1230530/Atlas_Fallen/ or consoles I guess.
Take a drink every time sand is mentioned
I can't be held responsible for any alcohol poisoning that results from this.
Thanks for all the puns and a concise review!
I'm all about sand these days.
@@AbbreviatedReviewsyeah, thank you for the sand, too...! Wait...
I managed to clock in 5 minutes before realizing how much I don't want anything to do with that gameplay loop.
I would buy this game for 30Euros not 49,99Euros
That's probably a much more reasonable starting price for this game.
I wonder how many of these recent boring, formulaic games could have been so much better and more satisfying if the teams involved had any room to actually innovate or at least try to break out of the usual molds in some way. It's like they're all made based on the same corporate checklist of mechanics and world/story beats, and despite having a few cool aspects, they end up feeling like the same old bread sandwich, but with a different flavor of bland. I know the conventional wisdom of these big AA/AAA projects is that innovation is risky due to their huge budgets, but for how long can they really afford to keep making such mediocre, milquetoast samey nonsense that even the pleb gamer masses have soured on?
Maybe the business model doesn't work, but I think we can't really know if these games make money since we don't have the numbers.
Also, making money with games and making good games are two different things, I'd say there's a correlation but not a causality between the two.
Deck 13 is a studio that focuses on gameplay first and foremost. All their games are like this one i.e good gameplay and average to subpar everything else and they are all solid. Not amazing or groundbreaking. Solid. Some of us are ok with that.
Good gameplay will always be able to carry a game in my opinion. I can appreciate rewarding exploration and a well told story but i can definitely live without it if the gameplay is good and its good in this game.
My only complaint is that they should have gone with a traditional level based system but I'm starting to suspect that an Open World setting is easier to make from a dev standpoint. Of course the world itself might not be interesting and engaging.
I have no problems with games like this. Gameplay is what separates video games from other mediums so a game with good gameplay is a good game as far as I'm concerned.
@@jihigh482 I think it's a good standard
Considering the COD franchise has been pumping out the same type of game for many years now and have even looped back around to re-releases, I don't think there's a limit for how far formulaic games can go. It seems like the goal is just to find the precise blend of similar mechanics that you can turn into a franchise and iterate on with minimal development.
Study on evil genius. Steady on.. Thanks for sharing!🪐
