Jason, I believe A7III has the tracking function too. Set Center Lock-on AF in Fn button. Start recording and turn it on and tap the screen on the subject you want to track. :) Hope it helps the rest of the A7III users out there.
Jason Vong Not arguing - just curious. Are there comparisons out there? Is there a drastic difference? I’ve only used A7 iii and A7r iii. Center lock-on has worked really well.
I just did the switch from Canon to Sony and I'm watching all your videos about camera setup, autofocus and lenses suggestion, they are all very helpful, Thank You!
I am currently using older Sony cameras.a5000 and a6000 simply cuz it's what I can afford currently however of all the videos I have watched about lenses and focusing and settings. Yours have been the most educational no nonsense and comprehensive for someone like myself who knows nothing about photography. Thank you for your approach and how u have made all aspects of photography make sense without convoluting the subject
My Sony a6400 just came in the mail today and I JUST opened it!! It’s charging and once it’s ready I’m going to rewatch your full setup video and this video :D so excited!
Me first time owning A6400 and not knowing anything about old sony cameras, i thought the realtime tracking is the main AF sytem of sony. I was shock when i switch to 120p mode and the real time tracking is not available (I'm used to canon's dual pixel af which always have box to where it is focusing). It's funny because i choose the a6400 over the m50 bacause of the af even in 120fps, I thought i wasn't able to have Af in 120 lmao. Now i know that there is really a focus modes. I'm such a beginner Sony user lol, Thank you.
Wow, this was incredibly helpful. I have an A7iv but this is still so relevant. The focus modes section was exactly what I've been trying to understand. Thanks Jason!
Hey Jason. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE VIDEOS. I learned SO MUCH in these few minutes vs countless other RUclipsrs whom don’t explain the settings or even how to capture the composition. Can’t wait for the next one!
Jason, your vids got me off the "Auto" mode. Purchased A6400; Sony's autofocus ... best there is now I understand how to take full advantage of it! thank-you ! got a new subscriber buddy !
4:30 is a great tip. like your videos alot. for me withA9 I use touch tracking and go behind the tree then back out and if i do it fast enough it doesn't lose focus. but this is a great idea
I'm definitely going to use the AF/MF toggle more often when shooting video. As always, great video and thanks for doing these tutorials! Can't wait to watch the rest.
Wow! This is by far the best explanation an example I found!! And I went through tons of videos. You’re soo straight to the point I can actually grasp what you’re saying and remember stuff . Most of the other videos give you wayyyy too much info that it throws off the mind and the focus . Great job! I will be subscribing. Excited to learn from you !
Really like your clear presentations. You speak clearly and to the point. I have been using Sony a7 cameras for run and gun production, to compliment our bigger HD video cameras. Thanks for producing these videos.
Super quick &to the point. Thank you & you’ve earned a subscriber! Just got an a7iii after upgrading from a T2 - wish I bought this camera years ago! Looking forward to learning more in your other tutorials!
Jason the way you explain tech info combined with stunning imagery to illustrate effects is inspiring. I recently invested in an A6400 and a couple of lenses and refer to your set up and operations guides often.. Much thanks to you and Vanessa. Piece!
@@JasonVong Great! When you do come again hope that I can meet you in Japan. Next time please come to Kyoto you will able to take an awesome video for sure.
I’m so happy I found your channel. Focusing in video mode has been a mystery to me. Thanks for helping clear things up. Keep up with the excellent topics.
So my face detection settings won't allow me to turn it on it says it is because the file format XAVC 4K so can you not have AF on if you are using the video in 4k?
@@JasonVong Yes! I enjoy using it. Before using the 6400, I used Canon M50. Of course the M50 is much more easier to use. The low light performance of a6400 is much better. And the range of lenses also makes me happier. But of course, it spends me much more time to learn the Sony menu. (Oh! My God!) Anyway, thanks Jason from Hong Kong.
Thanks Jason! I'm always wondering if I am using the best FOCUS mode while shooting in AF. This really helped me become more confident while choosing a setting....THANKS!!!!
This is so awesome! When you spoke about real-time tracking, I'm realizing that I think the new firmware update has it for A7 III & A7R III. I still have to do my own firmware update so I'm not sure :P
Great job on this dude. I saw this on the A7iii video group on FB and had to watch. I have been a long time user and this breaks it down so I even got something from it. It also explained how I am hosing up with my A9 tracking. I need to move that touch focus setting. Also why you might program a MF button. I always have just used switch on lens in the past.
Hi, thanks for sharing.. I have a simpler question. How to set the focus (and aperture) to reach the same infinite depth of field like an action camera?. for example, if I want to film a food table from above with people hands picking food, and have all in focus?. thanks
OMG thanks so much for a tip how to "lock" focus. I was struggling with assigning custom key to something called Focus hold on my a6500 but never thought that the solution is much easier by assigning AF/MF toggle :)
I've just got my A6400 after of several months of saving money!
And this channel (and series) are just what I need to learn and practice!!
Jason, I believe A7III has the tracking function too. Set Center Lock-on AF in Fn button. Start recording and turn it on and tap the screen on the subject you want to track. :) Hope it helps the rest of the A7III users out there.
it does! unfortunately it doesnt work as well as the a9 and a6400
@@JasonVong Yeah :( But better than nothing I guess haha
Thanks for this, as this is also available on a7Riii
@@mikerose4013 No problem, Mike! Glad I'm able to help you :)

FYI: Sony firmware >v3 also adds the Tracking feature to A7 III and A7R III

thanks very easy to understand, everyone else makes it so complicated
I just bought an upgrade Sony A7Rlll and you helped me understand a few more things. Thanks bro. Subscribing.
You really are clear and concise in your presentation. And you move quickly without a lot of rambling. Much appreciated!
Believe me I took 2 hours to complete this 6 minute video..thank you so much !
Glad it helped!
Traveling to Japan in September to visit my daughter! Hopefully I'll get some great photos and video!

can you make a video showcasing how to shoot videos with the sigma 16mm 1.4 combined with the a6400 as their is no IBIS and no oss on the sigma!
I used a gimbal back when I was shooting with that combo in Hong Kong

they technically did! haha I got it from my a7rII

You should be teaching people to use back button focus method which is way more efficient and faster than toggling the AF/MF on and off.
Thanks for producing this excellent video. Packed with helpful tips. It can be quite daunting trying to get up to speed with the Sony focus modes.
