I do 18 hours of fasting and 6 hours of eating and it has changed my life after 90 days I'm fitting back into old clothes without all that belly fat and in a bikini again. What I noticed is I stopped snacking and mindless eat it and I felt much better and my brain fog started to leave. Once you do it and get over the mindset that it's hard it's so much easier. Mel, this may be the most important life line you've ever thrown your audience. I've been following a fasting proticol for years now. The anti aging promises are true. I'm am 64 and am faster, stronger, and have more endurance than the typical teenager. Last week, I beat my 32 year old son in a sprint(He is an EMT and is in pretty good shape). I'm no jock, just a retired salesman. I love that you are targeting women with this knowledge. I have not been able to teach my wife to follow my formula. But now I have Mel Robbins on the job. I will listen and learn for the woman that means the world to me.

Hi, thanks for asking. I have been experimenting with getting the most out of an aging body for 10 years.
The last 2 years have been the most fruitful, mostly because I am retired and can get enough sleep and rest. I have come to believe that much of aging is environmental…and hugely mental. As a senior in high school, I wrestled and was in pretty good shape at 155 pounds. I could do 7 pull ups. Today, at 64, I weigh 164 pounds and can do 20+ pull ups. I experiment with diet and exercise. I pay attention to what works for my body and mind. Most importantly, I know the answer to the most important question for me:
What would I do with a superhumanly vital body? My answer: Be an awesome husband, father, grandfather, writer, and actor.
Here is the protocol that works for me:
      1. Diet. 80% Real food. Meat, non-starchy veggies, fruit, nuts, olive oil, coconut oil.
Very little dairy or sugar. No alcohol, wheat or processed food.
      2. Intermittent Fasting most days about 16 hours
      3. Exercise: Strength work 2 to 3 days a week for an hour with weights or push ups and pull ups
Run for an hour twice a week with lots of sprints thrown in
      4. Cold Exposure. Cold showers most days, or going out in winter weather shirtless for 15 minutes.
      5. Wim Hof Breathing. The Dutch adventurer, Wim Hof has developed a wonderful breathing exercise.
I do it daily for 15 minutes.
      6. Read- Every day
      7. Journal- Know what’s on my mind every day. Write my intentions.
      8. Create- I like to write, so I spend about 2 hours a day creating.
      9. Gratitude. I thank God every day for the beautiful people in my life, and ask for the power to do good.
You can follow my experiments on my Facebook page: Second Spring. I am not a coach. I have nothing to sell. And I am definitely no expert, just a fellow explorer sharing a journey in to the unknown.

I’ve always been in good physical shape and was an avid runner and typically fasted around 16 hours a day every day. Now that I have stopped running as much I have increased my fasting to one 24 -30 hour fast a week. I actually have less energy and have put on weight ever since I started pushing my fasting window longer. It’s like it’s slow down my metabolism and I have less energy to workout. My weight will not budge now and I have belly fat where I did not have belly fat before. I did way better when I just exercised really hard in a 16 hour fasting window, but without the intense exercise, several times a week, 24 hour and 36 hour fasting isn’t doing anything for me, but for my metabolism down.

It’s true that after an extended fasting we feel more calm and positive . Today I broke a 7-day plus fasting of 182 hours. I already knew what I would eat today, and can say I feel very peaceful. Been doing these extended fastings for the past 4 years, ever since I was diagnosed with cancer.
I fasted for 11 days before my mastectomy and as a result, was not required any Radiotherapy nor Chemotherapy. After my operation, I had an Onco Test done of the extracted cells and the test indicated I would not require any Radiotherapy nor Chemotherapy. I can’t say for sure if fasting had anything to do with it, but I’ve always thought it destroyed a lot of the cancer cells.
Note: when I’m fasting I always take the one pill required by my Oncologist, no supplements or anything else. But I do drink coffee, water and my electrolytes (Apple Cider Vinegar and organic Salt in 10oz. of water).

Dr. Mindy mentioned: It does not Matter WHAT DIET (ie. FOODS you EAT, the Calories, or Intake Quantity), to get the Benefits of the Intermittent Fasting!
The Point is to CUT DOWN the HOURS of Eating to a SHORTER WINDOW of Hours, with the Shortest fast, being the 12-16 Hours of NO EATING = Fasting with Water Only. Coffee - Listen again.

I am a forever plump, usually depressed, belly fat, double chin food addict who has had NO cravings, NO sugar or processed foods, No cheating and NO brain fog for the last 45 days. My eating window is 11am until 7pm, but now I can go even longer. Like, some days, I don't even eat until 1 or 2pm and that's it for the day--NO Dinner! I feel great and I've lost chin and gained neck. My big Belly has gone gone down so much that I can almost see my toes. This really works! My clothes are falling off and I am finally not at war with my underwear. By the way, I'm 73 years old and this is the only eating plan that has worked this long. After watching my husband intermittent fast, I was not a fan at all. I love food and I'm a foodie and I never thought, I could do it.
After listening to both of your podcasts on this topic, Dr. Mindy explained intermittent fasting in a way that I can actually understand it. I've listened to both podcasts at least 6x.
In just two weeks, I can see how this lifestyle is changing my life. I am in menopause and of course had gained that dreaded midsection weight gain. As I mentioned above "I'm a foodie". Now something new has clicked in my brain. Rather than thinking, what will I eat at my next meal, I'm more thoughtful about the window of when I'm eating and what I put in my mouth. I'm a good cook, so mealtime is even more enjoyable. I'm sleeping more and drinking less alcohol. My workouts are more productive.
My fasting period is anywhere between 14-20 hours. I've done one 36 hour fast and I can't believe how good I feel and how easy it is.
I have not yet weighed myself, but my clothing is is getting looser. When the new moon begins, I'm going to follow Dr. Mindy's 30 day recommendation in her book.
    Thanks Mel!

A big warm hello to the respondent's here.
It is important to find a doctor or specialist for support.
If a person is underweight fasting needs to be approached vastly differently, and this may mean, intermittent fasting combined with a highly nutritious diet in-between.
I must note here that in the post modern world I do NOT support the concept of water fasting. Rather, intelligent juice fasting including clear soups, appropriate herbal teas, geared to the individual's needs, and of course water as well.
We have to remember that a great deal of toxins are expelled from the fatty tissues, and water only fasts are woefully inadequate in neutralizing and mitigating these toxins as the body expels them via every elimination organ.

Thank you Mel and Dr. Mindy. We Muslims not only fasts in Ramadan. We do voluntary fasts on every mondays and thursdays and also 13th,14th and 15th of the every month in the Hijri calendar. And Islam teaches us to eat less, and if you want to fill your stomach, one third of food, one third for drink and one third for air. There are many other etiquettes for eating and drinking. Hope even if you are not following this faith, to atleast look into these everyday lifestyle things we follow.

I fasted for 7 days (only water snd electrolytes). I felt like I was born again. My skin was so soft, I didn’t even need lotion or moisturizer on my face. I felt happier, lighter, and my eyes were sparking white. I can attest it is life changing. I wish all humans could do this and believe in it.

Mel, I started IF in May 2020 with the help of Gin Stephens and during the pandemic I lost 31 lbs in about 9 months, slow and steady. It really worked for me. THEN - in January 2022 I got sent home to work and all hell broke loose. I lost my way and gained every stinkin lb back. I feel as horrible as I did when I started the first time. I have recently realized that I HAVE to get back to feeling amazing and losing some weight as a bonus. So here is Mel to remind me and give me a kick in the arse to get going again! So today while listening to this podcast at work, I made the decision to get my crap together and get going. Thanks for this and I can’t wait for part 2. Love you!

Started 2 months ago. Within 2 weeks my body naturally settled on eating once a day around 6PM. This results in fasting plus calorie restriction. I started at 220 lbs (I am 5’8”) and I am now at 184 lb. That’s 36 lbs in a little over 2 months. That’s just the tip of the iceberg though. I feel sooo good throughout the day. Mental fog GONE. Everything just works better body and mind. Plus, as an outdoor enthusiast it is so liberating to not have to worry about carrying food with me. Logistically speaking IF is amazing. I gained about 2 hrs a day in food prep/clean up time, saving hundreds of dollars a month in food costs! IF has really changed my life!

After a lot of research and combing through YT, I started intermittent fasting on July 15th. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. Some benefits I experienced: A couple of weeks ago, my shoulder stopped hurting. I thought I would need surgery for this. My ankle is healing after almost a year of pain. My nails grow like crazy. My hair is finally growing back after I did the big chop, you know how we do. Also, I know this is weird or TMI, but I no longer have to blow my nose every morning when I wake up. Pay attention to those little things, too. And, as a big added bonus, I've lost 27lbs! Diets, begone! I am committed to this lifestyle. For anyone wanting to try intermittent fasting, the more you do it, the easier it gets, and this is a great podcast to start with. I wish you all the best on your journey!

Minimum fasting period to get into fat burning is 16 hours so when you start this INTERMITTENT FASTING program make sure you try to eat your first meal around 1 pm afternoon time and 2nd meal before 9 pm night time between this 8 hours try to finish ur meals n eat healthy food ... lower your carbs to less than 50 grams to start with 00 sugar 00 alcohol. U ll start getting all the benefits of fasting within a week. Try to increase fasting hours slowly from 16 to 23 it depends on ur weight n ur goals. If u wanna loose maximum fat in short period eat 1 meal in any time of the day n don't eat anything entire day have coffee have tea lemon juice without all this without milk n sugar.
U can also try 3 days water fast to start with n after 3 days eat ur 1st small meal like egg or salad then go for IF it ll be easy to fast for 16 to 23 hours once u r use to fasting .
U can also try Saturday n Sunday full fast eating nothing n monday to Friday as we work do Intermittent Fasting as per ur work schedule.
Hope my comment will help u guys. Stick to ur plan otherwise u ll start loosing the benefits soon . Make it ur lifestyle ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

The only reason it feels tough delaying the first meal is because your body is trained to expect it. My horses know exactly when to start banging on the gate. So trust me, if you just day by day moving your meal time back by 30 min or a hour, your body will stop preparing for food so early. Drink water when you first wake up!

It's TRUE. If you're a person who's never tried it you need to try it. The benefits aren't immediate it takes about 4 days for me before i feel the difference. Along with cutting out sugar and reducing carbohydrates (KETO) but be serous about drinking your water and taking your electrolytes either in your water or pill form because if you're like me you end up getting a terrible headache shakes and nausea during that transition your body goes through to change from a sugar burner to a fat burner.

I genuinely believe in Intermittent fasting. It has made a significant change in my life. Although I'm not always religiously dedicated - I find myself almost unconsciously going back into it to reset when I start feeling unwell in my body. I just know it's what I need and find myself going through a day of fasting - and it leads to another long cycle of IF, because I've experienced the benefits. I know it's not for everyone - but if you're willing to try, it's worth giving it an honest chance.

I plan to sit down this evening and work out a fasting plan that by month end i can possibly do 48 hour and following month go for 72. So helpful and informative. Thank you!

My fasting window varies daily between 12 and 18 hours, depending on my schedule. I have successfully completed a 7 day fast -- which easier than I expected -- however, I also have a clean diet and exercise regularly. During the 7 day fast, water was the only thing I consumed. I plan on doing another fast soon.

What I love about your conversation is that you are completely debunking ALL the lies that so many have been told for their lifetime. Fasting has been around since the beginning of time & the body has ALWAYS been designed to heal itself. Yes, Fasting IS Free & yes it does heal the person doing it AND NO, no profit is intended, that's why they don't want you to know about it. You no longer will be able to be controlled from the lies anymore.

I practice a very low carb diet plus 16 to 17 hrs…I stop eating at 6:00 pm to 11:00 to 12:00 next day. Two things I really notice is a calmness. No nighttime anxiety that usually keeps me awake and my stomach is also feeling the same calm…no bloating…no occasional discomfort…just calm. Quite wonderful.

I'm almost 69 and have done this as long as I can remember because I don't like to eat until late afternoon. Who knew I was doing something good for my body. My momma always fixed a hot breakfast every morning and my 4 siblings ate breakfast but I did not. I always get asked how I stay so small--it certainly isn't WHAT I eat;)

You can also fast with different times of your day. I'm up 4am, I eat at 5am and a big breakfast but my last small meal is at 3pm latest. I only drink water after 3pm. You can have a fed 10 hours and 14 fasted and be fine.

I don't eat until 2pm. I feel so much better when I only eat when truly hungry! I think we have been programmed to think we need way more calories than we really need. I will always intermittent fast, low carbs, vegetable and meat eat for the rest of my life. I am 50, and just started a year ago.

I am so happy Dr Mindy mentioned Ramadan fasting because the benefits are amazing! Other than the important religious side of it, the lifestyle results are incredible ! I totally recommend intermittent fasting and all other kind of fastings! It gives a healthy daily break to our digestive system to make it optimal. It’s free and anyone can do it.

I stop eating at 7pm until 11am and do one 40 hour fast a week, doing keto when I eat. So far I’m down 16 pounds in 3 weeks.
For years I did calorie restriction and 4-5 days at the gym and the scale wouldn’t move. I recommend intermittent fasting with keto to anyone who’s struggling, especially women in perimenopause.
