About 2200 hrs in the game and 90% of that time as Ogryn. Here lately I've been in my Sweet Sweet Ogryn mode trying to tank and protect the team with the Shield and the Rumbler. Paradoxically that means using Indomitable (Bull Rush) rather than Loyal Protector. As this ability not only generates aggro whenever you knock enemies over, but it gives you that utility to move about the arena quickly and help someone who's getting bum rushed or has fallen. Plus, if you are using Attention Seeker to taunt on push then I find that I can aggro just as many enemies with a couple of pushes of the shield as I can with Loyal Protector. Just Bull Rush into the middle of mob, do a couple of push attacks and you'll find you have no problem getting the attention of all the Ragers that are swarming the party. Nuke is more than just a meme nade as it has the ability to completely eliminate a butt puckering zerg rush by the game director. And if you play maelstrom some game modes will even give you three nukes at your disposal. And any smart group of players will realize you have a nuke and will forego picking up nades in favor of the Orgryn that can just delete ambushes. Also, I'd emphasize getting Tower Presence as it just fits with the tank support role by increasing coherency radius and it synergizes with Lynchpin, Stay Close, Get Stuck In, and Bruiser. In other words, there are just too many talents for the Ogryn that depend on coherency to not maximize the radius circle as much as possible. Build wise, I'd drop Smash 'Em and the toughness node on the top far left as the shield has no problem hitting multiple enemies on heavy attack. Because it's easy to hit multiple enemies at once, The Best Defense is all you need to generate toughness on hit. If you get stuck out in the open and can't hit anything while being peppered with gunners, just turtle up with the Shield's special till toughness regen or your Ult comes back up, and then Bull Rush your way back into a better position. Get rid of Bombs Away and Slam and get the Frag Bomb Nuke. Go straight across from Soften Them Up to Indomitable and use the Pulverize Bleed stack modifier. Drop Crunch and just stick with Batter here as we are gonna max our bleed stacks. Crunch is nice when you bonk a lone crusher or wind up a heavy hit on a monster, but it's somewhat situational and if you try to fully charge heavy attacks in the middle of close in ambushes you'll get chip damaged too much. Go into the middle and Hard Knocks will give use a nice amount of heavy attack bonus since the shield excels at staggering enemies. Go to the left and pick up Delight In Destruction, as this just works with the bleed stacks so well that it can turn you into a tank all on it's own. Then, go to the right and get Towering Presence for the aforementioned reasons. Then, go down the middle to get the Feel No Pain keystone as shown in the video's tank build. Finally, the thing you want to emphasize as playstyle is to PUSH PUSH PUSH the enemies to crowd control, generate aggro, and build up hard knock stacks. You want to constantly be using the RMB + LMB push attack combo which does a surprisingly powerful and quick overhead single target attack. And this will set you up for the single target heavy attack that also has a enormous amount of cleave to hit multiple mobs. Because pushing is so important you want to manage your Stamina by not running about too much. Don't be afraid to use Bull Rush solely as a means of sprinting about the arena. The Bruiser perk will generally bring the Ult back online in short order so that you can just spam your Ult constantly. And uh, yea just don't get too wrapped up into stomping on things and keep peeking over to the team's status bars to see how your team is doing and making sure you are in coherency. Keep an ear out for the audio queue of someone screaming "Help!" when their toughness breaks. Then, stroll over and give the enemies surrounding your teammates a few pushes and a start a bonkin'. Or just nuke the arena from orbit as it's the only way to be sure. I run three toughness curious with toughness attributes so that my toughness is pumped up. And also run corruption resistance on all three to reduce the damage from tanking a Daemonhost. Although you can swap one out for a Stamina curio to give you more stamina flexibility. Anyways, sorry for the wall of text.
I’ve been using the shield as my Bruiser build weapon with Skullcrusher/Brutal Momentum. For single target the heavy 1 push heavy 1 combo is stupidly strong. Completely underrated way to use the shield. You can keep even crushers staggered out of their overhead and then squish their heads with heavy 1s. For trash heavy 1 heavy 2 clears hordes and keeps them from getting at you or your pals by keeping them on their butts or dead. I think it’s my favorite Ogryn build. The only thing it really wants for is monster damage, but it truly doesn’t matter when every second player you run in to is a hammer zealot or a revolver vet.
For monsters I say run a pimped out Rumbler or Kickback and just dump almost 2k damage on a basic shot. Rumblers get the sticky nade blessing that does additional damage to monsters and ogryns, add on shrapnel for 4 stacks of bleed and you’re chunking down hp while crowd controlling
Came back to the game after a year, and was confused why my ogryn sucked. Come to find out an update reset my skill tree. Tried the bruiser build, and it's awesome! Great work!
Imo the best Ogryn build is a MKV shovel + kickback using the charge and feel no pain keystone. Heavy attack is fast sweeps so easy horde clear, special attack will 1 hit maulers and crushers while trivializing bosses and feel no pain is just free DR since heavy hitter doesn’t give any breakpoints to the shovel.
I put the shield with the Bruiser build and the Pick with the Tank build. If I have a shield I don't need more personal defense, I need damage, if I have a Pick I have loads of damage and I want something to lessen chip, let me bloody my way through bad situations and CC for my team. I personally think "Crunch!" 40% damage on full charge, is a trap. For the Power Maul, "Hard Knocks" is just 25% free damage as it counts everything in the specials AoE. The simple rhythm is activate, start heavy, dodge, swing, repeat. I run Box, Charge, Feel No Pain, bleed stuff. Still not an original build but other than the Shield the Power Mail is the most Ogryn Ogryn weapon IMO. It hit hard, it hit slow, it big disrupt, it loud.
Current Favorite is a hybrid build Melee covered by bull charge with Mark 3 cleaver built for light spam Ranged with an Achilles Stubber with Burst Limiter and charmed reload not the best at either melee/ranged but quite good at both, also can get so many charges Saves a lot of skill points by not needing heavy attack perks weakness on crushers cuz bad vs carapace
That bullgryn build is 100% the strongest Ogryn build (and maybe storngest build period) in the game. Karasolas Pickaxe and Mk1 Club are 100% the best weapons to use for this build, it really just comes down to whether you prefer sliiightly more damage (karasolas) or sliiightly more speed (mk1). His other weapons are workable, but the heavy attacks are either slow, lacking horde clear and single target in tandem, hamper mobility while charging, or are lacking in damage output, in my experience.
Nice video, I suggest to add some "cutscenes" here and there to show what you are talking about when you describe a talent or some buff and also to entertain a little more. Still keep up the good job, you are a valid channel for a game with an overall small community
@@MisterEtide Reading it again I think I made a poor choice of words 😅, what I was trying to say is that the channel and the videos are good, just try to keep engagement high with videos showing what you are talking about (sorry english ain't my first language)
I’m an Ogryn main, and I disagree with a lot of this. I never charge heavies. Just enough to fire it off and chain the next one. With the slab shield, you stagger everything, so max out cleave and defenses. Max out toughness and gunner resistance on your curios. It’s very difficult to die if you take all the nodes that give you toughness on heavy hits.
Max out charges for the bruiser because the damage scaling is insane. I can provide you some math for the curios if you want, but the tldr is that HP is better since the damage you take from melee hits is the inverse of your current toughness %, and all your toughness is regenerated on a % basis. Your effective hp is a lot higher running all health curios vs toughness ones
@@MisterEtide this has been debated since the beta within the main ogryn community, the reality is in practical use a mix of 2 hp and 1 tough is probably the best (i've heard valid reasons with math why all tough or all hp is better as well tho)... BUT after like 6 months of talking about it and testing we all decided to use what we wanted because literally every variation works at all levels and they all have scenarios where they would be "the best" for that small amount of time. Now adays when people ask you'll see everyone kind of just say "use what you want as long as its either toughness or health, i use ----- because of ------ reason" also all us oggys looooooove gunner resist, so much that alot of us put it on the curios of lil'uns we play sometimes lol
Gunner resist is definitely the pick, i use it in every class except psyker. I dont understand toughness on heavy, one toughness curio is like 20 toughness you get, one hp curio is 60 hp. If i take two consecutive 50 damage hits, here is the breakdown 100 toughess-50 Missing toughness 50/100= 50% Second attack 50*.50= 25 hp damage 150 toughness-50=100 Missing toughness 50/150=.333 Second attack 50*.333=~17 damage to hp The problem is to get 150 or so toughness you dont get the 200 bonus hp from all hp curios. Plus hp gives better defense against corrupting attacks like bursters and gas, as well as grimoires
I don't run hp curios anymore, but that's just what I prefer atm. I just care more about ranged resistance so my choice is clear. Getting close to 600 hp is fooking awesome though.
very good vid, love the ogryn content. there technically is a better version of your bruiser build (with mark3 club) where you take away the heavy attack full charge talents for some added utility and animation cancel every heavy attack - it's a pretty decent ttk and dot spread uptime over full heavies and almost more utility.
@OrAngelicBlitz8633 That was a typo - this build and many like it prioritize thrust which is a focal point. Not taking Crunch and Thrust give quite a bit of fluidity in choice.
Sah, aye ain’t gettin’ in da way a no bullets, ya bullets be gettin’ in ma way. Be ticklin’ me back an all. I’ve been running the bullgryn keystone on my gunlugger and it’s been a nice blend. I have no ammo worries and mainly bust it out when I need to clear pretty much any large mob in one go. I go Rock as well because it’s just so easy and versatile. Who needs a big grenade when my Point Blank clears anything as is.
Honestly I suggest anyone go read the ogrynomicon if they are a new oggy, its written by some people who really really know the ogryn, both numbers guys and player skill guys love the ogrynomicon (its on steam). not gonna lie friend these builds are a bit odd in the oggy community but nothing crazy. They'd probably be a bit different coming from within the community. I'm not saying any of your builds are bad tho tbh, they are all fine but buck the trends i've seen over the years, they feel like a vet player coming to ogryn (which is fine but the lil'uns value damage above all else). You're undervaluing the rock in terms of how it covers weakspots of some builds and what some of those builds will bring to the table when mixed with the rock to plug the blind spots. You're also over valuing damage, why does an oggy need to kill things quick when he can simply do it safely and take as long or as short as he wants? You're missing key nodes that alot of ogryns will tell you its hard to skip them because they are so good in almost every build (but honestly this just happens sometimes, so many good nodes that sometimes you have to cut some of the "essential" ones so i'm not saying that makes any of these builds bad). One thing to note is that at the moment there isn't a single weapon that an ogryn can't carry with in auric+, ogryn are spoiled for choice in the fact that you can make pretty much any build and weapon work pretty easily in auric+. So with ogryn just kind of experiment and if it works and you like it then you're golden tbh.
I took these builds from some ogryn players in my games with 500+ levels, i only have 80some levels myself so i cant claim complete mastery of the big boi. I do put an emphasis on damage because im suggesting for a wide audience (most people want to slap hard and carry games, even though an optimal ogryn build is more support heavy). One thing you said about ogryn that i really like is that most of his weapons are at least usable, its hard to make a bad build with him. My complaint would be its hard to differentiate builds as much as other characters.
Over valuing damage? Why kill things quick?! Bruh you can't speak for other people if you say this. 😅 For crunch though I do agree it loses a lot of value on weapons without thrust and the shield specifically has sufficient stagger by itself. Having a stamina curio on shield makes sense because it provides the least stamina on a melee weapon and one of those curios doubles what the shield provides. Just make sure you utilize the special even if briefly, because it cost zero stamina to block that way and works almost instantly.

Health stamina regen gunner resist
Using the 2 of the 3 builds you have but the gunlugger one is really hard to use in damnation.
Thats why i rated it B, damage is good but you dont have the ammo to deal with everything that is trying to melee you
