I made one of these as a kid, but we added yarn ties in the corners of the blocks that went through all the layers to keep them together. If you don't sew or tie any of the layers in the middle, I think that as the different fabrics stretch or move around when you wash it, eventually it will have wrinkled and baggy places and the batting might get bunched up.

You made this look so easy and doable! I was considering making a quilt out of scrap fabric a few months ago and was scared off because a lot of tutorials make it seem so difficult and all about precision. Thank you for making such an accessible tutorial!!

Beautiful colors and pattern. I would advise you sew through all the layers in the ditch. If you want it to survive washing.

I have a plan to make a quilt out of old shirts I love that no longer fit/drawn on and a little embarrassing, at the moment it’s this box on my shelf and it hasn’t reached the amount of stuff needed to become a quilt yet. But it’s getting there.

I’m sort of early but just wanted to say I love your videos. I’m only 13 and started sewing and making my own clothes a couple years ago and I have made a few of your things. You inspire me to keep sewing everyday!
Can you make something like a hoodie or someone warm with a zipper? Also I love your hair

Cute! I’d make a tiny stitch here and there to keep the batting from shifting.

you could also use a woolen blanket instead of batting

This reminds me of the quilt I had as a kid! I've just gotten into quilting, and am in the process of laying out the design(it does in fact take forever😂)
The only thing I'd encourage you to do, so your quilt lasts longer, is to maybe tie the layers together with DMC floss! Or you can do a kantha style quilting. I didn't do either with a sample piece, and holy crap, it wadded up the batting so badly in the wash.😭 Ties are definitely easier and maybe more cottagecore looking! Either way, it's a super cute quilt! Thank you for the tutorial!

ive seen people do hand embroidery of flowers on each peice to tie the layers together, which i think is peak cottagecore!

well, now I think you need to make a cute little patchwork dress. that would be amazing.
god my problem is that when I see someone make something cute, I think "omg I want to make that!" but most of the time I dont have the time or money for it which sucks. maybe someday ill make a quilt. but anyway, its really cute! I can definitely see you having a picnic on it
