The Beatles are amazing. Everyone assumes they're overrated because they're so famous. But all you need to do is start listening to them and you realize why they were such a sensation in the first place.
Paul always played such sensational bass parts. I hadn't really noted how great they were until I started playing bass myself, and I always aspired to playing similar melodic and unique bass parts.
I'm an old geezer and The Beatles are the Sound track of my life. That being said......I just love that you are discovering the Love, Power and Beauty of The Beatles. You have a Special beautiful heart other wise you wouldn't even give this Music the time of day. Not that I'm comparing anyone to George ( who wrote this Song ), but I'm sure there are quite a few Men who would love to write a Deep, Emotional and Moving Love Song that you inspired in their hearts. I can't tell how wonderful it is to see young people like yourself really listening to The Beatles and Digging what we've enjoyed all these years. I doubt you'll ever read my particular comment, but if you do......... I want to Thank you for putting a Smile on this old Man's face and a twinkle in my Heart. 🎸♥️
Agreed, but George wasn't very complimentary about Paul's bass playing on some of his (George's) songs. He said it was fussy and over-complicated, and said he'd rather have had Willie Weeks playing bass
It is great to see the young of today are finding that what they did to change music forever. I was 14 when I heard their first songs.I’m 74 now.and still do.
Princess, I too grew up with The Beatles. I was 7 years old when they first appeared on Ed Sullivan, I am now 68. So yes, I do have nostalgic feelings when I hear their music. Also, The Beatles met when they were 14, 15, and 16 years old. When they broke up, they were 27, 28, and 29 years old, still relatively young, but they had known each other for years. They went through so much during those years. They developed into men with their own interests, and drifted apart. They were like brothers, but like brothers, they followed their own paths. Happens to everyone. They gave us so much music and love. I thank God that he gave us The Beatles. ❤❤❤
They were under pressure and bound by contracts far too young. This is what really drove them apart. They were kids trying to mature into men with all that banking stuff wrapped around their necks. I can't imagine how difficult that must of been when your just trying to get some sleep at night. The massive fame and pressure of it all must of been intolerable at many times. Most people would of collapsed under all that weight.
There’s no love song written for you(yet) because words can’t express just how beautiful you are…. I am glad that many people your age are finding out about the Beatles. I work with several young Black people who tell me they love the Beatles. I am a 67 year old White man. It makes me so happy to know that the Beatles are loved by different people of different backgrounds and cultures. That is what music is supposed to do. Bring us all together as one. It’s a beautiful thing!
I'm a 77 year old white dude, and altho I love classic rock, my all-time favorite artist is Stevie Wonder. His melodies and lyrics touch me like no other.
I genuinely do not know why colour needs mentioning. Music is music, no matter the colour of the person who made it, or the person who listens to it. Just enjoy the music.
Patty Boyd must have been an amazing woman. She had so many songs written for her by George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Something, Layla, Wonderful Tonight, Bell Bottom Blues, and others I can't remember.
You may be interested to know that Celine Dion did a cover of this song in tribute to George’s widow, Olivia when she saw her in the audience. What was really cool was that Joe Walsh was also in the audience, so she drafted him to accompany her on guitar. It was a very beautiful, moving performance. Spontaneous and unrehearsed. A genuine once in a lifetime special moment. It’s on RUclips. Easy to find and well worth your time. ❤
Frank Sinatra said it was the greatest love song ever written, Unusuallly, this was NOT written by Lennon/McCartney but by George Harrison., They played 7 hours a night for 5 months in a German Club to perfect their Art. This was 1960. They had their first UK hit in 1962.Their first Number 1 was in 1963 and conquered America as the head of "The British Invasion" in 1964. They were the first to play to NONsegregated USA audiences, the first to play outdoor stadiums (Shea Stadium: New York:55,000) and by 1966 they stopped touring as the screaming got too much. They had ALL The Top 5 in THe USA charts and 14 records in The Top 100 at the same time. They sold more records worldwide than the next 2 Artists (MJ and Elvis) COMBINED.
It shouldn't be surprising that it was written by George Harrison because he wrote it about his wife Pattie Boyd there's at least 10 other love songs including wonderful tonight that were written by both George Harrison and Eric Clapton about Pattie Boyd
Hey Princess, Im 70 years old and the Beatles music was the soundtrack of my coming of age. I bought these records as fast as they were released. I cant tell you how wonderful it is and how great it feels for people of your generation to love this music and appreciate people like the Beatles as i always did. This music is a treasure for all of us and someone like yourself proves that it's so. Thank you.
After Years of Performing in LENNON, & MCCARTNEY'S Brilliant Shadow. George became a Composer of a High level himself. So much So. That this Song Garnered Praise from ELVIS! And FRANK SINATRA! 🎶
I think Sinatra congratulated McCartney by saying thanku for writing this song as it was the most beautiful song he had ever written. McCartney took the compliment without correcting Sinatra that it was actually written by Harrison...lol
Couldn't be more nostalgic for us. I remember the day when I heard the news that The Beatles had split up. It felt like a loved one had died. But what we--I at least--didn't quite appreciate and I'm not quite sure why was that they had literally been together all the time from when they were kids to their late twenties. All the time, through the turbulent sixties, they led the chronicled the changes that confronted us all. Yet they didn't have the chance to explore their individual selves. Looking back I see that it was inevitable but when I was thirteen, it was like my whole foundation had been ripped from under me. Abbey Road was my favorite of all the Beatles' albums and then it was over. Then, it didn't take long for George to release All Things Must Pass, and all his pent up creative brilliance came flooding out because he had always been in the background behind John and Paul. It was magnificent and I realized nothing was over. It was just a new day and the world was different because they had made it so.
For side two you should listen to the medley unbroken. The sequence begins with "You Never Give Me Your Money," then continues with "Sun King," "Mean Mr. Mustard," "Polythene Pam," "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window," "Golden Slumbers," "Carry That Weight" and "The End." Abbey Road then closes with a short hidden tune titled "Her Majesty." They all run-together, and to hear them individually ruins the effect.
When you said "I just want someone to write a song like this for me", it reminded me of last January when my wife turned 60 years old. While we were driving I put the song "Even Now" by Bob Seger on in the car and before it started playing I told her I wish I had written this song because it is truly the way I feel about her as she turned 60. After the song finished, I looked over and she had tears streaming down her face. She truly appreciated it. Another great song in this same realm is "Annie's Song" by John Denver. BTW, the late, great Frank Sinatra called "Something" the greatest love song of the past 50 years.
Great reaction. You are wise beyond your years 🙂 What a beautiful song by George. He had so many other great ones that just didn't make it on the last Beatles' albums. Thankfully we have All Things Must Pass.
I have recently discovered your channel and i do like your honesty and feeling for the songs. It is Music that helps us come together through pain and love . Music and particular Music that unites us to celebrate love and kindness must be celebrated. This song by the Beatles most certainly does. It is a beauty of a song. I can understand George Harrison's frustration at times in the group about feeling "restricted" and making his voice and style heard alongside John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Glad he found a way to be remembered as a great artist on his own as well as part of the Greatest group ever
Imagine being the woman who inspired two of the greatest love songs of the era---"Something" by George Harrison and "Layla" by Eric Clapton. That was Patty Boyd, a great beauty by anyone's standard.
Your reactions seem just fine. For me The Beatles were all about moving forward positively and I heard them from about 1962/63 onwards. They were still young when they broke up, still had some learning to do; nearly 25 yrs later, when they played together once more, you can see they understood more deeply the love they were sharing and asking us to wake up to.
This song is remarkable in that it’s generally considered to be amongst the world’s best ever love songs, but the word “love” is nowhere to be found in the lyrics.
That was a lovely analysis ... both of the Beatles music and of the more substantive issue of growing older. You show a lot of wisdom about the journey at hand for all of us. And I'm delighted that you love the music to which I grew up. Yes, the world rather collectively wept when word got out that the group had broken up. But as we learned more about the tensions within the group, and also got to see how each of them flourished independently in their music careers, the majority of us learned to accept all of it. And none of that diminishes the impact of the incredible music they created in just a handful of years.
A very nice reaction from you.. My personal memories when hearing these amazing songs brings back a mixture of deep feelings. As young people in the mid 60s to 70s we were blessed with so much wonderful, creative music to listen to. In hindsight it was a very special time to grow up and it deeply affected the old folks that are now grandparents and great grandparents. Most of us are still here and that soundtrack is within us. As time passes and generations are assigned some sort of name.I hope someday mine will be remembered as the coolest generation instead of being discounted as just boomers
...what a beautiful reaction, Itsprincess! You engage so much with the song, and your comments and afterthoughts were really good and to the point, e.g. don't hang on to the past, rather enjoy/be grateful for what was happening... I grew up much closer to that time (was 14 in 1970), and could see how the Beatles inevitably moved towards splitting up, after having been so close for so long... it was time for giving more space to their private lives, relationships, starting families... I think the split-up was indeed very healthy for them, and often in the moment of letting go its not fun... but later we see how important it was for moving forward in our lives... Well done, dear you! Looking forward to your progression through the album! 😎 PS. Someone will write you a love song/poem like this one, I'm sure! 💖
Most Beatle fans who were around in the '60s, had no idea that they were drifting apart. It was a shock! We didn't know until they split, and they started bi$#@ing at each other.
My personal all-time fave Beatles song: I've loved it since it was released, when I was a child. I have vivid memories of watching the pro-mo film on Top Of the Pops (in Black & White) and despite being only 6 years old, I watched the film and realised ....THEY WERE SAYING GOODBYE! I said this to my teen cousin and he disagreed strongly, he loved the Beatles (he was 15 at the time, grew up with them, as it were). The film is incredibly sad. Take a look of the close-up of Paul McCartney: he looks thoroughly exhausted and he was still in his 20s! They had all found new partners...new women in their lives...they were moving on as artists.
Finally! Ive been suggesting this one, I thought you might like it. You got taste. I’m 27 so I didn’t get to experience the Beatles in real time, but this is the song that made me fall in love with them, there is something about George Harrison in particular that I can’t really point my finger, but his music and personality really resonates with me, might be his brutal honesty even in writing a romantic song “you’re asking me if my love will grow? I don’t know” that’s really something. Plus, he was hot. Anyway, if you enjoy their music and want to check out more I would suggest “A day in the life” and “Dear Prudence” two other favourites of mine. There’s a lot of 60’s and 70’s music that it’s worth checking out really, even from other bands, I really enjoy Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac in particular, as well as the Beatles. I’m also a soul/R&B girl, love Frank Ocean, Beyoncé, Lana Del Ray, Rihanna, to name a few, as current artists go, but I also love the 60’s and 70’s.
@@ESyshej-gf2eg - Like you I love all kind of music. Having grown up during the beginning of the Beatles hey day ( I was 13 when they first visited America) before them there was Frank Sinatra ( popular music) and believe me if you're not very familiar with it, a lot of it is worth checking out. Of that genre you have Laufey of your generation ( Jazz & Classical ) who is really incredible. Anyway excuse the tangent, getting back to George Harrison - even Sinatra who originally disliked the Beatles ( a little jealous I think at the time ) recorded "Something" and said it was one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Believe me coming from him it meant a lot. Glad to see the younger generation appreciating good music.
It could have been on the Let it Be album, but he had so much trouble finishing it. A love song to his wife and Muse. Patty inspired "If I needed somone", "Like you too much", For you Blue", and the Eric Clapton songs "Layla" and "Wonderful tonight".
Pattie Boyd had so many songs written for her. Something, For You Blue, Layla, Wonderful Tonight, Bell Bottom Blues, and I can't remember others. Must have been a hell of a woman.
Frank Sinatra called this "The greatest love song ever written"... This coming from a man whose sang EVERY love song written probably 100 times in his life...
Great song, I'm a married man but I once sang a serenade to my now wife and it wasn't romantic her neighbour was listening and I could hear the odd giggle, I was also a little drunk and my voice isn't great but at least it made her laugh, we still giggle about it forty five years later.
Yes, those were all 4 of their then-wives. John had just married Yoko Ono in 1969 and despite a brief affair he had with another woman, May Pang, they remained married until his murder in 1980 in NYC. Yoko is still living at age 91. Paul and Linda Eastman had also married in 1969, and were together until her death from cancer in 1998. George, who wrote this song, was married to Pattie Boyd from 1966 to 1977 when they divorced. George passed away in 2001 of cancer and Pattie is still living at age 80. Ringo and Maureen Cox were married from 1966 to 1975 when they divorced. Maureen passed away from leukemia in 1994. Ringo and Maureen's son Zak followed in his father's footsteps. He has recorded and performed with The Who since 1996, has performed with his dad's All-Starr Band, and recorded/performed with Oasis for a number of years.
If you want to see many emotional Women and some emotional men crying then watch their last release(2023) of a song written in 1977( seven years after they broke up) by John Lennon in his flat and put together with current images of the 2 living members, in their 80's: Paul and Ringo and the 2 Beatles who have passed: John Lennon and George Harrison. It is brilliant and tajen 45 years in the making.
That's what I thought the first time I heard Garth Brooks' "Shameless ". A musician friend said they say it in a song because they can't say it in person.
One of the greatest love songs ever written & he never says "I love you" in the lyric. If you want to hear another Beatles song that might break you try "She's Leaving Home" off Sgt Pepper.
Yeah, as someone mentioned below, most of side 2 is one long suite. You can break it up a little. You can do the first three songs separately. Sun King, Mean Mr Mustard, Polythene Pam and She Came in Through the Bathroom Window are all short and should be done together. Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight and The End and go ahead and add Her Majesty (it's only 23 seconds) should all be done together.
My favorite bass line ever, played by Paul McCartney. McCartney took this from a nice love song by George and turned into a masterpiece. That's the genius of Paul McCartney, it's his thing.
There is a deleted scene involving this song from the 2019 film, "Yesterday". Ana deArmas is in the scene; it's a shame it wasn't used. Its on 'the tube' if you want to check it out ( & I highly suspect you do).
The Beatles are amazing. Everyone assumes they're overrated because they're so famous. But all you need to do is start listening to them and you realize why they were such a sensation in the first place.
I always tell people they were underrated just to be provocative.
One could argue it’s true. lol
One of the most beautiful 💕 songs ever written. There's no argument that this is one of the top 5 greatest songs from The Beatles!!!
Hello
I'm listening to the Beatles since 2014 I'm 26 years old and they are my favorite band
Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
Paul’s bass is incredible on this song
So are his harmony vocals.
Paul always played such sensational bass parts. I hadn't really noted how great they were until I started playing bass myself, and I always aspired to playing similar melodic and unique bass parts.

Paul's bass playing on Something is ....sublime
Eric Claptons guitar solo " The second one in the song". is ok I guess
@@meyou-dv8ns That is George playing the solo. Clapton only played on While My Guitar Gently Weeps the previous year.
First... George and his guitar solo, voice and corus with John... after that, Paul... (Paul playec his bass... fantastic also!!)
You could even say his bass playing here is something!...I'll see myself out gents
Agreed, but George wasn't very complimentary about Paul's bass playing on some of his (George's) songs. He said it was fussy and over-complicated, and said he'd rather have had Willie Weeks playing bass

Another master piece by the Beatles. 👍👍 another great track is THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD.
Yeh one of my faves , but not the naked version, which is ok but nah
IT is a very touching song! Love seeing younger generation get introduced to all this wonderful music!
Something is an all-time classic song. Not just brilliant lyrically, but musically and compositionally as well.
"Lyrically amazing" definitely makes sense! The Beatles were lyrically and musically amazing!
They still blow my mind!
RIP George. His writing will be touching hearts forever.
He wrote the best two songs on Abbey Road.

We all want someone to write a song to us like this Itsprincess. You are right to feel that way and are sweet for apologizing.
You have a lot of wisdom. Keep going and growing. ❤
My late Mum wasn't really a fan but did love this.
Love to listen to your reaction to these songs!.Very in-depth and honest 😊
I appreciate that!
And I Love Her is one of the best love songs they ever wrote.
It could have been on the Let it Be album, but he had so much trouble finishing it. A love song to his wife and Muse. Patty inspired "If I needed somone", "Like you too much", For you Blue", and the Eric Clapton songs "Layla" and "Wonderful tonight".
In My Life is great. Something is next level. One of the best songs written by anyone in any era.
This song and Layla by Eric Clapton are both written about the same woman. Pattie Boyd.
Not just Something and Layla, but "You Look Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton also had Pattie Boyd as the muse.
Pattie Boyd had so many songs written for her. Something, For You Blue, Layla, Wonderful Tonight, Bell Bottom Blues, and I can't remember others. Must have been a hell of a woman.
The Beatles are simply the best.😊
Frank Sinatra called this "The greatest love song ever written"... This coming from a man whose sang EVERY love song written probably 100 times in his life...
Sinatra called it, "The best Lennon/McCartney song." Paul later said, "Thanks, Frank."
The 'Quiet' Beatle George Harrison's MASTERPIECE! CHILLS! Listen to the ENTIRE 'Abbey Road' album!
Fab-4/4-Ever!
Lyrically amazing is spot on
Mayhap one of the best love songs of the 20th century.
"I like this." So did everybody
Legendary singer Frank Sinatra, said this was the greatest love song he ever heard.
George DID write this for you. He wrote it for all of us. Loved your reaction.
Great song, I'm a married man but I once sang a serenade to my now wife and it wasn't romantic her neighbour was listening and I could hear the odd giggle, I was also a little drunk and my voice isn't great but at least it made her laugh, we still giggle about it forty five years later.
This is one of the great love songs.
Yes such a great love song!!
That's my favorite Beatles song!
George is my favorite Beatle. This song is amazing.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻glad you enjoyed it 💜💜
Here, there and everywhere... recomendo, vou escrever em pt pq to com preguiça... boa tarde
I enjoyed your reaction and look forward to following your adventure of discovery with the Beatles. NOTE: One of your Instagram links is broken.
If you want to hear another Beatles song that might break you try "She's Leaving Home" off Sgt Pepper.
this must be one of the best song ever writen.
You deserve a love song.
This group changed popular music for the better.
Great reaction ❤
You have a beautiful voice! Ought to give singing a shot, if you haven't.
I suggest you react to Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" about someone recovering from a breakup and putting it into perspective.
This song was written for George's wife, Patti Boyd.
That was really something! 😆
My favorite bass line ever, played by Paul McCartney. McCartney took this from a nice love song by George and turned into a masterpiece. That's the genius of Paul McCartney, it's his thing.
Imagine after listening to Something and getting so emotional and teary-eyed, next comes Maxwell's Silver Hammer. 😅
Undoubtedly the greatest band of all time
You could try Eric Clapton's love song 'Wonderful Tonight' which is about the same woman.
There is a deleted scene involving this song from the 2019 film, "Yesterday". Ana deArmas is in the scene; it's a shame it wasn't used. Its on 'the tube' if you want to check it out ( & I highly suspect you do).
