Get 24 settlers per settlement and 18 of them per settlement on scavenging stations, at 10 settlements you have an army of 180 people getting you 360 junk items per day. Add a shop emporium or two and every settlement generates a few hundred caps extra. I clothe my settlers with combat armor and assault rifles or combat rifles or shotguns and sell all lower tier weapons and armor. I'm level 50 with 35.000 bottlecaps, explored half the map and story. Every trade I end up cleaning out the shopkeepers caps. I don't farm or buy shipments anymore just collect caps and sell off everything I find. I mean every little thing and every enemy and his or her stuff. 6 settlements have beacons, the rest not. If the 6 settlements get to 22ish settlers, I save, kill all of the settlers and find the 1 synth among the 20+, restart , send him to my killbox settlement, kill him and send the rest clothed and geared to a settlement I need to fill. This game gives you so much junk, power armor food and weapons, if you don't keep a good eye on your inventory it can swamp you. I don't care about how to make a lot of caps ('cause I already know how without using glitches/exploits) I just have a question that maybe someone else can explain to me, and this is the first most recent video on 'caps' I could find. So, I'm playing a 0 Main Quests complete game, 3rd attempt (harder than it seems; it should be noted: I have over 3,000 hrs in this game since 2018/19) and I'm only level 14 now (last game attempt level 144, and the one attempt before 161) and it says in my stats: You Have 6,000 caps but right above it it says You Have Found 18,000+ caps. Say what? If I have found 18,000+ caps then shouldn't I have 18,000+ caps? After leaving Vault 111 I went straight to Vault 88 (at the time, only two fast travel points activated) took the Atrium, killed the Overseer (failed the dlc) and after breaking everything down in the Atrium built water pumps, waited and got the Purified Water and from Vault 111 went to Goodneighbor (without activating any other fast travel locations; not easy) and started purchasing goods with what little caps I had and using the PW to get it back. I've been doing this for 15 hrs. I only have 15 places activated, and I always get my caps back from Merchants and never buy something and not get them back. So, how are those two totals vastly different?
I think I figured it out: the value of the individual items you pick up are counted toward the total of 'caps found'. Like, right now I'm level 35. I have 18,000 caps (not much but this game isn't about caps) but it says in my stats I have found 178,000+ caps so far. If I actually found that many caps, this game would be a lot simpler but of course I don't have that many caps on me and I still don't buy anything without getting all my caps and their's, too, back. So, that's my theory. It's counting the sell prices of each item (not necessarily how much you end up getting for them) that you pick up and counting that toward 'Caps Found' in addition to the actual caps you find and have as currency.
Fast traveling far away and waiting 24 hours doesn't refresh the stock. It's been years since I played fallout 4 but remember dealing with stupid mechanic now that I am doing a new play through.
