      @@SimplyStitchy I had a question for you if I’m not going to use the treadle for a few days is it best to take the belt off the wheel?

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes. Ideally you should disengage the belt when the sewing machine isn't being used. If the belt is left on the wheel all the time, it can stretch. Removing it will help the belt last longer.

    Came across your videos today while researching a Singer I inherited several years ago and wish to send to a new, appreciative home. I watched an older video that detailed on how to identify the age of my machine, as well as where it was manufactured. Absolutely fantastic! This video for replacing a belt - or, in my machine's case, putting one on - was invaluable. That you sourced where to buy them was icing on the cake.
    My machine is a Singer Model 15 manufactured in 1915, in its original four-drawer cabinet. In addition to this beauty, multiple parts accompany it; there is a spool of thread thread that matches what is still in the bobbin. What a fun time I have had learning about these machines. Many thanks!

    Thanks for the video ! It didn't end up having the info I was looking for (how taut the belt should be) but it looks like you mounted yours with as much slack/give as I did mine, so I'm going to leave it as is for now, I've already taken a bit off a few times, 5mm at a time. I'll sew with it a bit and see if she needs tightening.
    Thank you for the bobbin case video too, it was very helpful to get the proper order in which to remove things so I wouldn't break something ! Gave it a deep clean, she needed it, it's been 3y since her last professional servicing.
    I'm mounting my 1917 handcrank 66k (lotus decals !) onto a 1930 treadle table dad showed up with randomly the other day, I can't wait to see how she runs like this ! She was already a joy as a handcrank.

      The tautness kind of depends on the machine. Each one is different. You're absolutely right though! Try it, take a smidge more off if you need to. Then try again. There has to be some slack though so don't go totally tight. Dads are the best aren't they? They always seem to find just what you need before you even knew you were looking for it! 🙂 Thanks for commenting and for watching! Glad I could help!

      @SimplyStitchy It's a bit sticky, but I got the belt on! I'll go through and oil it, etc. The treadle turns the wheel when it's loosened like doing a bobbin, but it won't turn the whole machine. I never used a treadle before, but have used old motorized machines. This is just the best!! First step done. Thank you!!!

      @SimplyStitchy This is just so cool. Very dusty! I cleaned and oiled it, and now the treadle runs the machine, and I'm on to your ither vudeos. Thank you, thank you so much! I'll be using this machine quite a lot, I think!!

    I've got to put 2 belts on 2 different machines. Should be fun! But that's for showing me how to do it!

    A great video on a difficult task for first timers. I have had to do this a few times and it does get easier. I always make a point of examining the belt regularly and I keep a spare just in case, nothing gets in the way of my sewing! 😊

    Thank You for this very informative video. I just bought a singer treadle. Your video is the first to see and it looks just like the one I purchased. What model is yours and year?

    Is there always a rear belt guide? Just watched your video and went to put one on my new to me Singer 27 but I’m not seeing one on mine.

      It is entirely possible that your treadle doesn't have a rear guide. I think its only purpose is to keep the belt straight as it goes down towards the wheel. It should work fine without it.
