    Well, Sir Bob!
    Thanks for all your great videos and providing the adjusters manual for the 127 I just picked up.
    I spent some time doing minor clean up and oiling, repairing the tension unit and adjusting. I then threaded the machine and put in a loaded bobbin. The machine would not even pick up the bobbin thread. I started making adjustments per the manual you provided. It finally picked up the bobbin thread and sewed but continued to drop stitches intermittently and sometime for many stitches, despite all my adjustments.
    Then i learned a valuable lesson!
    I discovered that the needle that was in the machine when i purchased it was the wrong needle! 😮 Too short! Now it's sewing perfectly! Note too self, ALWAYS CHANGE THE NEEDLE, trust no one! 😂😂

    Your videos are wonderful, the manual is wonderful and I am almost convinced I can service my great grandmother's Singer 27. I am slowly collecting lubricants and tools and nerve.

    Did I hear you say that's all you got for us, Bob? My ears must be foolin' with me because that is what we call a Tour de Force! And I just have to say that your cleaned-up version of the manual is awesome. You're quite right, it is much, much clearer than anything else out there. You deserve a medal for that alone and I just can't thank you enough!! Having this wonderful video to go with it is, as they say, the cherry on top of the icing on the cake!!! Hang on a tick of the tock... I think I need a few more exclamation points... !!!!!! Ahhh - that's much better. :-)

    Thanks Bob! We have my wife's treadle model 27 from 1873 which was very poorly cared for land in my lap. I adore these machines and follow your videos and Andy's for my restorations. This manual will make all the difference around here.

    Thamks Bob for the video. You have that 127 video that helped me so much when I got mine. Special thanks for the manual. I have a handcranke 127 that sews beautifully after following one of your earlier tutorials. Good to see you back.

    Today, after a clean up of a 1902 Singer 27 (there was a century of 'shmoo"), I will be reassembling the needle bar and presser foot. This particular video and others you've provided have been a huge help. Going to be fun to see if I can get this girl to stitch again! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Great help!

    Thanks for your timely post, Bob!
    I just picked up my first treadle machine- an Egyptian vibrating shuttle. My first time seeing one and it appears to be perfectly timed after some cleaning. Waiting for a belt tonight😁

      Got 'er cleaned, oiled. Darn flying springs! Doing some refinishing now. Trying to check timing was a challenge, but finally figured out that the needle was going in too high. Working well now, but I need practice on the treadling!

    Thank you! So glad I found your channel and website. I have a 28k hand rank and she is lovely. I have absorbed the info from this video and have it bookmarked to use again. Now all I need is to find this kind of stuff for my Singer 12. I am still looking. It is out there somewhere. Thanks again for the info on 3 of the 4 iron ladies I have.

    The bending info is extra helpful. The first vintage machine I got a couple years ago, the shuttle was rubbing the underside of the plates. I was terrified to bend it, but there was no other option. And now I know what position to eventually bend it to.

    Hello from Argentina Bob! I do have trouble with my new-to-me 127, it doesn´t make the lock of the stitch. I will try your tips but I have to ask: does this machine use the same regular needles the actual machines uses? Thank you in advance

    The bobbin winders on the 27 or the 28 which style do you prefer.

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  2 года назад

      They are essentially the same. The big changes came with the upper and lower placement. If the machine is a treadle, I kinda like the lower placement, but if it has a motor, it pretty7 much has to be up high.

    Hey @BobfowlerWorkshop, I really love vour videos and I've found your content to be invaluable in my restoration of a 1930 128. The only thing I would change here is your gauge for measuring the needle bar height. You fell victim to overthinking the problem on this one. I've done the same repairing old cameras. Your gauge doesn't actually reach the bottom of the screw just the bottom of the screw head. What I did instead was take a retired needle, measure it to 20.5mm cut off the tip from that point down and put just a small dab of bright pink nail polish on it. The needle butts up to the screw post and is ready set for the correct height with a bright marker.

    Thanks so much for the great video. I have my Grandmothers 1912 Singer 128K I am wanting to use for leather work. Seems in great shape but I have never used it before. MOst likely not used in over 50 years. I have a problem with the thread not exiting the vibrating shuttle when I have the thread loaded into the shuttle on its Bobbin. I have taken care to follow online videos for loading my Bobbin with thread and loading the bobbin in the Shuttle but the thread binds only when the bobbin is in the shuttle. Not sure why. I have tried singer oil inside the shuttle but no joy. Any ideas as to what may cause the bobbin to bind inside the shuttle? Nothing seems damaged on the shuttle and the tension screw does not seem to be the issue as the tread passes fine through the shuttle when not loaded on to the bobbin. Hope this make sense, and thanks in advance for the time........wayne bergman Sunshine Coast Canada

      El tamaño de aguja correcto es 15X1. Este es el tamaño más común para las máquinas de tipo doméstico, debería poder encontrarlas en cualquier tienda de costura local o en Amazon.com.

    I'm confused , I thought the 28 has the bobbin winder near the bed and the one you got with the bobbin winder near the top is a 128 , can you explain this to me , i didnt know the 28 ever had the winder up top ....hmmm

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  2 года назад +2

      Yeah, Singer had some interesting things going on back then... Later models of the 27 and 28 had the winders up top, and to make it more interesting, some early 127 and 128 had the winders down low. This is a 28. You can tell by the upper thread tension assembly. There is no linkages inside the needle bar box to release the tension by lifting the presser foot. The release is the "spoon" type on the tension assembly proper.

    • @4486xxdawson
      @4486xxdawson 2 года назад +3

      @@BobFowlerWorkshop i noticed that spoon style tentioner thats why i was confused, ive never seen one like that with the winder up top , also found out today they made a aluminum 99 in early 20s , now im hunting one down , rare from what ive learned , so may take a while if ever but love the hunt , thanks for all your help with your videos ,
