@@penta4568 It's not quite as bad on Java edition as it is on Bedrock though. my experiences with villagers on Bedrock is that unless you trap them in some hellish dystopia for eternity they tend to get turned into zombies in about five minutes.
There's a problem with the hopper that collects the items from the ice stream. It will be powered just enough to pick up the items, but not long enough to transfer them. You might solve this by placing another line of hoppers below that one, which will pick up the items from the hopper above, despite it being locked.
There was another problem with it. The observer didn't actually connect to anything. He probably noticed the problem at some point in time, but it was still kinda funny.
@@Airblader I don't think that would happen, because the hopper can pick up a stack of items at once, but only moves items one at a time. Since it only has a few ticks to do so, the hopper will probably fill up completely, meaning it can't pick up anymore items.
Hopper minecarts sometimes disappear or stop moving all together when chunks get unloaded. So the field of hoppers may seem excessive, but they're still more reliable then minecarts.
mostly cared about the least amount of effort here. lag of 5000 hoppers is fine for us. The farm is built in a remote area, so the farm won't cause lag (just 5mspt) when not used. iron is also not a problem at all for us. Placing one layer is less work than placing one layer of support blocks and one layer of rails. We also don't have a lot of gold for powered rails. Also we don't need a minecart unloading system and extra redstone for that. so in this case it made sense for us to use hoppers
He mentioned in another comment that they decided on hoppers primarily because of the effort it'd involve. One layer of hoppers takes far less time than one layer of support blocks + one layer of rails + unloading stations. They have an iron farm and a hopper crafting system, and they also don't have much gold, so it's overall a more efficient solution. They play on a powerful server, so the lag from hoppers is no issue either.

tree farms are One of my favorite types of farm, they are very compact, 3 dimensional and have at least 4 or 5 very different restone technologies in use
I think there is a problem with the system you've built at 14:45. The hopper will unlock for like a moment and will pick up the items, but it won't have enough time to transfer the items to the next hopper. So eventually it will fill up and nether wart will sit on top of soul sand until it despawns. So maybe adding more delay until the hopper gets powered again or checking if it has items with a comparator would be helpful. I might be wrong though, I always forget which aspects of hopper functionality get deactivated when it gets powered. Does it stop transferring items, or does it only stop picking them up?
You should try using a system where you have a villager in a flying machine then you give it exactly 8 stacks of potatoes, carrots, seeds or beetroot seeds then the flying machine will have a sticky piston with a slime block to push it across then have hoper Minecarts behind the system to pick the loot up on a hopper Minecart sorting system leading to one area. But I was just suggesting a simple redstone task but you don’t have to do it.

nice and elegant. I feel like you could do without the hoppers underneath and put the hopper minecart next to the player by a block instead of in the same place. Then swap out the hopper minecart every so many slices somehow to empty it. and that's a big "somehow", but I think its doable.
maybe even sweep the netherwart off with a fencegate next to the iron bar. Wouldn't catch everything but i tested it a little and seems to get most of it. issue is you need to swap out the fence gate to the direction your headed, which isn't above push limit and is doable, I'm just not sure its worth it
Assuming you keep the farm small enough, why not just have 2 minecarts dragged along at different points in the same flying machine. It would mean the player would only get restocked every second row so the farm would need to be less than 64 blocks wide, but I think it should work.
hey mango im not sure if youre aware of the mechanic where binding right click to the keyboard lets you place blocks way faster, actually faster than minecart speed and also this lets you use a 0tick bud faster. of course you can't use a fake player for this or use the f3 + t trick so you actually gotta put something on your keyboard lmao
The hoppers below are in my opinion a total waste. Just have hopperminecards that get lounched once the flying machine switches direction. It's much less laggy and much cheaper (not that cost matters).
There must be a point when just manual farming the amount required is more efficient than building and designing a 16x omni-directional mega farm complex º(0v0)º
