"this year has disappeared... into the void" I FELT THAT
Totally agree. I don’t know where this year went. It’s almost fall!
Same. I read the title and thought "best of 2021? But we're only a few months in... oh, wait."
Thanks for this Emma! I can’t wait to dive into these movies.
💎Hidden gems💎(Horror/thriller/mystery)
1. The collector (part 1)
The collection (part 2)
2. Ratter
3. Searching
4. The hoarder
5. A simple favor
I hope you enjoy Emma, love your channel!!
Us horror girls gotta stick together 👻
Hey! Seen most of these :) loved searching
@@spookyastronauts Yayy!! Searching was amazing. If I think of anymore I’ll share soon.
Movies list and where to watch
10. Hunted (Amazon video, Vudu)
9. The Block Island Sound (Netflix)
8. Boys from County Hell (Shudder)
7. Caveat (Shudder)
6. Teddy (Shudder)
5. Faking A Murderer (Amazon Video, Vudu)
4. Fear Street Triology (Netflix)
3. Psycho Goreman (Amazon Video, Vudu)
2. Saint Maud (Netflix, Hulu)
1. A Quiet Place 2 (Amazon Video, Vudu)
Thanks for this!!
Thanks Cynthia!
Thank you! 😊
THANK YOU for mentioning Caveat (2020). I don't hear anyone talking about it! Such a gem.
I haven’t been so impressed by this years horror movies. I could only find one not on your Letterboxd worth mentioning
Blood red sky- a german Film about a terrorist plane hijacking and the mother who saves the day.
That movie was intense and so good! She was amazing and that boy can act circles around most adults
A Quiet Place Part II is also one of my favourite films of this year! It was the first film I caught after the cinemas reopened here. I’m really glad they prolonged the release because the film really does thrive on the big screen. I remember leaving in a daze, after so long away from the cinema I had missed that experience so much.
These top ranking vids/recommendation videos have been helping out so much since my theater drastically cut back on the variety of movies they show since they reopened 🙏
I was excitedly anticipating “Psycho Goreman” after seeing the director’s previous movie “The Void” which I loved. The practical effects work in both films is fantastic.
I loved both as well. Psycho Goreman was hilarious but The Void is one of the best Lovecraftian / Cosmic horror movies out there imo. Really effective.
Psycho Goreman really suprised me, I had a blast with it, later checked out The Void and that was pretty rad too, gonna keep an eye on the guy.
Blood Red Sky is a lot of fun. I'll definitely check out your list. Saint Maud is the only one I've seen and I loved it.
I've not heard anyone talking about 'My Heart Can't Beat Unless You Tell It To'. A very bleak and realistic take on the vampire mythos.
I don't think it'll be for everyone and it certainly isn't perfect, but I enjoyed it a lot and found it to be a very unique little film. In tone, it reminded me a bit of something like Blue Ruin, so if that's your kinda thing you may enjoy this one. I think it's technically a 2020 film but wasn't released to a wider audience until a couple weeks ago (at least here in the UK). Would be interested in hearing your take on it, Emma!
Ooh this looks good!
I actually have it ready to watch! Someone mentioned it to me the other day
I have this top on my queue, glad to hear good things on this…
I love this vampire movie 😍
@@spookyastronauts Awesome! I hope you enjoy it. At the very least, it's something a bit different.
I would put saint maud at the top, I like the strangeness and the "vvitch" vibe that it has, the whole religion thing, etc. I sadly didn't like quiet place 2 that much
Me either.
Same! I thought it lacked plot and jumped around too much
I was underwhelmed by Saint Maude- think it was overhyped so I had high expectations.
Great job! I love how this list is so unintentionally varied. Keep up the great work.
saint maud is my favorite of the year! i thinks that spot is settled, also wow i would never guessed a quiet place 2 was your fav, i was kinda dissapointed in that movie. super hyped for what is coming
I really liked The Block Island Sound. It reminded me of Dark or Broadchurch in a way and I think this movie would've functioned well as a series where the whole town has to deal with the 'sound'.
I appreciate all the intelligence and knowledge you bring to these reviews.
Hi Emma,
What about doing a top 10 with M. Night Shyamalan's movies?
I don't think any has been done recently.....And with "Old" hitting the theatre, I would love to know your take on the best one?... Thanks!!!
Old was such a disappointment for me..
Caveat was so weird and absolutely amazing. Loved that one.
My only one complaint with that film it would have been better if the main character had insisted they pay him more, for him to agree to wear that iron harness thing. Like really who the hell would agree to wear that unless there was good money involved?!
Great list Emma thank you! I either haven't heard about most of your 5-10 picks, or haven't gotten around to them yet.
I think one thing people need to know about Fear Street is that it's straight up fun to watch with great pacing. You can throw it on anytime, no matter your mood.
I fell asleep during AQP2, ironically enough.
Just finished up the Fear Street Trilogy n thought they were pretty Good n Soundtrack for 1994 n 1978 was pretty Awesome! Thank You for recommending it!
Love the content Emma! Keep up the good work!
Just finished Caveat, now onto Hunted! Thank you for these great reviews!
A Quiet Place 2 and Censor is definitely in my top 10 this year. I haven't watch most of the movies in your list so i will be checking them out soon
Great top 10! I'll be watching Quiet Place part 2 soon now that it's available on demand.
The Boy Behind the Door and Saint Maude are my faves so far. Frankly, I’m baffled by the acclaim for the Quiet Place films.
I haven’t seen the first two you mentioned, or quiet place 2 but I agree the first one was frustrating and I feel like the hype doesn’t match. I enjoyed the film, mostly the premise but several parts irritated me so I’ve put off watching the second one 😅
Some people loved it some people hated it 🤷🏻♀️ that’s usually how horror goes tbh. I know people who loved Wrong turn!
Love your movie selections, Emma.
I found your channel a few months ago and so glad I did. Binged watched all of Gaspar’s films , incredible. I’m glad there are other chicks out there who like horror and disturbing films
Edit: faking a murderer has me laughing my ass off. I went into it thinking I might hate it but it was hilarious 😂
Saint Maud and Quiet Place 2 are also at the top of my list… given your love for religious horror and psychological horror and how the two combine- you must be suuuper obsessed with the trailer for Midnight Mass that dropped yesterday!!! I cant waaaait for this project from Mike Flannigan. I feel it could be his best yet. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
I loved Boys from County Hell! Psycho Goreman, Saint Maud and A Quiet Place II were also faves. Looking forward to Candyman, The Night House, and Antlers. I recommend Werewolves Within and Sweet River!
Thanks Emma, I have thought this year has been pretty slow for good horror to be honest but did like Saint Maud. Hoping for some good movies the rest of the year.
Incredible list! Honor to be a part of it!!! #FAKINGAMURDERER
Great list. The Believer made my list so far, I really loved it.
A Quiet Place II is the first film in the last few years that had me actually frightened one minute and then crying the next. Honestly, the duology is so well done, but part two is also the better of the two in my opinion.
I really enjoyed Hunted as well! And Boys From County Hell was very cool. I really appreciated that the movie let the characters take a break to be sad about what was happening to their friends and family.
Thanks Emma for your top 10, The Quiet Place part 2 is also one of my favorites! I've been watching some under the radar suspense /horror films like Held, the Rental, Hush which was streaming on Netflix awhile ago, the two i really liked that i watched this year for the first time was Alone and the Dark and the Wicked, you should check them out if you haven't seen them yet. I can't wait for Don't Breathe 2 and the new Holloween later on this year. I also enjoyed the first Fear Street but I still need to see 2 and 3. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
I completely forgot that you only managed to see Saint Maud this year, it feels like so long ago now! So glad to see it so high on the list :) Some of these I keep meaning to check out, like Haunted and Psycho Goreman, so thank you for reminding me that I need to get on that!
No problem 🤘🏼
Emma she’s pretty…..
I like the inclusion of titles you’ve recently watched from previous years. Gives us a great chance to catch gooders that may have passed us by. 😊
Great list, I loved St. Maud and A Quiet Place 2.
I just watched The Block Island Sound after seeing it on your letterboxd and it was amazing! The last seconds gave me the creeps!
Yay I’m so glad
All great survival horror movies have one word titles - Hunted, Revenge, Alone, Curve! Excellent list Emma and Psycho Goreman has to be one of the most entertaining movies of the year!
Fear Street is my favorite.. I was a teenager in 1994 and it was very realistic. 1994 was my favorite, but i loved them all! I really liked Deena, and her little brother Josh. 1994 has one of my fav kills with the bread slicer. The music was great and i really liked the relationship between Deena and Sam. I read the books when i was young, and i never thought there would be a movie, let alone 3.
Caveat was definitely my favorite so far this year
Great list🤝 I’m not sure which movie was my absolute favorite this year as I’m still loving movies from 2016-2018. I will say the movie I wasn’t expecting to enjoy at all but was pleasantly surprised by turned out to be Till Death😯. Keeping my fingers crossed for Halloween Kills, Don’t Breathe 2, Candyman, Antlers, Last Night in Soho and Malignant🤞😌
Thanks for the recommendations Emma, watched all of them a great selection, my reviews below:
10. Hunted - Great survival flick, I like how they cast the villain as a guy who looks a bit like a wolf. I loved the primal animalistic rage that the film evolves into at the end. 3.5 stars.
9. The Block Island Sound - Liked this one, was ominous and tense right from the start and doesn't let up until the credits roll. 3.5 stars.
8. Boys From County Hell - It was alright, I just couldn't get into this one for some reason, had it's funny moments though. 2.5 stars.
7. Caveat - This one is a goody, belongs in that small exclusive club of horrors that are genuinely scary. Loved that decrepit drumming bunny toy, creepy AF. 4 stars.
6. Teddy - A werewolf horror flick with a different fresh french flavour, slow building but enjoyable. 3.5 stars.
5. Faking A Murderer - Hilarious film about 2 inept idiots' quest for documentary success, loved it. 3.5 stars.
4. Fear Street Trilogy - Seen this already, really enjoyed all 3 took me by surprise. I normally detest dumb slasher horrors, but this is a slasher trilogy with an actual good story.
3. Psycho Goreman - Brilliant b grade homage crazy film, you were right Emma, Mimi is so funny in this.
2. Saint Maud - Ooh this one was so good! This is what I call a top shelf horror, a brilliant film about madness and religious devotion. I felt quite sorry for the main character though, in that same 'scary' club as Caveat, as well. 4.5 stars.
1. A Quiet Place 2 - Was ok, worth a watch like the first, but there's better horrors around. I just kind of felt like with the creatures, what exactly was their motivation for killing everyone? Or maybe I shouldn't care and just take it for what it is. 3 stars.
Cheers, love your channel!
Thanks for your thoughts (spoiler- free) 😊
Great list. I definitely agree about Psycho Goreman being so high up there
Glad to see Teddy on here. For a film I wasn't overly excited about, I was pleasantly surprised!
Totally agree
Cinemark sent me a survey, and one question was, "What's one of the movies you are most interested in seeing".
My answer, _candyman_
Definitely, A Quite Place II is my favorite film of the year.
My personal listo so far
1. Lucky
2. Come true
3. Violation
4. A quiet place 2
5. Jakobs wife
6. For the sake of vicious
7. Saint maud
8. The stylist
9. Meandre
10. Old
The ending of Come True is still haunting me
I LOVED the block island sound. So unsettling and really original
Gonna have to check out a couple of these, thx
Great list! Will definitely check out a few of those I haven't seen. I recommend the Indonesian film, The Queen of Black Magic which had a wide release in 2021. It's a really good ghost film with some genuine scares and great body horror. Easily my favourite of 2021 so far.
Fun mid-year check up. Having not seen Quiet Place, I’d say Saint Maud by a mile, but the list has its charms!
The epic scripting and lively ensemble in the Fear Street trilogy is some kind of miracle... for pure gusto it's my #1. Saint Maud packs a huge punch, and AQP2 ends up great just by elevating every element with such precision. Those are the 3 year-enders for me so far, so this list is a A+++, can't wait to check some of the rest!!
In The Earth, Censor, Vicious Fun, & Lucky (with Brea Grant) are solid B/+. The Reckoning doesn't get a fair shake for being a really well made gothic throwback piece (with some definite meta-cultural intrigue /background surrounding it)
idk if you seen them, but in the earth and come true are on my list. either way thanks for the suggestions, great video as always!
Yes I have :)
The Block Island Sound had an underwhelming ending, yet I can see what the director was going for. The concept was very interesting too. Still glad I watch it. The mixture reminded me of Hereditary & The Vast of Night. Just finished the other movies...Great recommendations. Thanks alot Emma🖤🖤🖤 Jacob's Wife, The Boy behind the door, A classic horror story, Meander, Eye without a face, Red Dot & Phobias were all decent as well.
Great list!! Um yeah i am excited for Halloween and Candy Man... I just recently saw trailer for Freddy Kruiger lol... Not sure about that one.
In no particular order (and including 2020): Hunter Hunter, Promising Young Woman, Anything for Jackson, Rent-A-Pal, Daniel isn't Real, Yummy, The Dark and the Wicked, The Devil All the Time, Caveat, Faking a Murderer (just for the sparkler sequence alone).
I thoroughly enjoyed Fear Street but didn't think it was top 10.
Saint Maud isn't on my list because, for the life of me, I could NOT get into it.
Rent-a-pal is very underrated
@@blueoystercultt absolutely!
I’ve never heard anyone else talk about rent a pal. I loved it
Anything for Jackson was a blast. Never knew where it was going, an original.
Hi darling! I see you from Mexico City! Congratulations for your fantastic channel
Think i missed loads of those!🤦♂️ got some catching up to do! Thanks👍👍
Can’t wait to see The Swarm!
Thanks Emma I got a whole new list of horror movies :)
I have never heard of caveat but when I watched it, I was very impressed. Such an underrated movie.
Saint Maud is on top for me. A masterpiece.
Good interesting list…I haven’t seen half of those movies here in the U.S. I am so eager to see them soon.
Blood Red Sky & My Heart Can't Beat... are pretty good as well.
Good list Emma. I need to watch Hunted, The Boys From Country Hell, and Psycho Goreman. Thanks for the heads up.
I just saw an odd little British film from a few years back called Exam. It's kind of very low-key psychological horror mixed with science fiction elements all set in one room. Did you ever see that one? If you did, did you mention it somewhere?
Any thoughts on Mike Flanagan's new horror series of haunting thingy "The Midnight Mass"?, personally I think it would be a cult and elements of haunting since he said on he's tweet that the supernatural is scary but a human if far more scarier. (Something along those lines)
No thoughts on it until I see it :)
Loved it so much. As a formerly devout Catholic, much of the imagery, teaching, and metaphor really resonated.
Im gonna subscribe to this channel!a grand declaration indeed!
I thought I was weird for not liking fear street part 2.
I’m glad I’m not the only one
I didn't care for part 2 nor 3. Part 1 was ok. Found it too pandering, cliche and borderline annoying on the heavy use of the soundtrack.
My top ten so far:
10. The Conjuring 3
09. Lucky
08. The Boy Behind the Door
07. Teddy
06. Werewolves Within
05. Saint Maud
04. A Quiet Place Part 2
03. The Djinn
02. The Queen of Black Magic
01. Fear Street: 1666
Weird. I can get behind everything on your list except for Fear Street. Even with it being three movies, I could’ve told you every beat of the plot “twists and turns” as well as knowing who was behind it all simply based on his name and job title upon introduction.
It simple story for pre-teens with R rated content. I really liked the first one, as it was a fun movie, but the series itself just lacked any real depth, and 1666 town was laughably stupid.
Queen of Black Magic was scary as hell
@@CorbCorbin I can't understand why people liked fear street so much. Acting was so bad that it made me cringe the whole time. It's pretty much a movie for teens, if such.
@@CorbCorbin I wasn't particularly fond of 1994 or 1978. 1666 worked better for me since the lead actress' new character was finally likable to me, it got really dark, and I felt some genuine emotion. Frankly, no one is more surprised than I am with how much I dug 1666.
It's always fun being pleasantly surprised by how much you loved a movie you assumed you wouldn't care for.
Your list is awesome. And i might shift them around a little, but most would be on my Top 10. I would also have A Classic Horror Story, Sacrifice, and Blood Red Sky.
Of course! Everyone’s list is different 🤘🏼
Love the list. I would NOT have put A Quiet Place 2 on my top 5, though. Maybe around 8 or 9 lol
I’m from around Block Island, so I’ll have to check it out!
Well, thanks first and foremost for more than half your list being films I've never even heard of: more to watch! I'm not personally huge on horror comedies (if only because so few films manage to strike the right balance, ending up neither scary nor funny... Best one I've seen recently is an Australian movie from a few years ago: Housebound), but I will give these a go! My own personal top 3 Horrors for 2021 so far are Lucky, Come True, and Saint Maud, so if u haven't seen those other two I highly recommend!
Hi Emma, great list. Btw have you seen The Empty Man? I absolutely love it 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻.
Yes! But it was released last year here. It was in my top 10 of last year!
I will check the out great hoodie pull
It was a bit of a bummer not finding in your list la Llorona (which is actually very very good) and Lucky
Pointless comment, I know, but it's part of the game : )
My number one would be Saint Maud, I really liked this film
Thanks for keeping providing the high quality content we all enjoy
I really loved Soul and Anything for Jackson which just released in Germany for streaming.
Mimi from psycho goreman makes me think of the line in zombieland "I've never hit a kid before"
Caveat reminded me a lot of Kill List, I loved it
Any list with Saint Maud on it is an automatic disqualification for me, but I like you too much, Emma!
There were four horror movies this year that I liked
-Kingdom Ashin Of The North
-Army Of The Dead
-Fear Street Trilogy
-A Classic Horror Story
Emma thank you for telling us about the movies List ranked 2021
I agree almost completely with your list, save for the fact that I have yet to see A Quiet Place 2 and Old. Also I would definitely put Censor in mine - really enjoyed that one. Further - special mentions go to Blood Red Sky, Willy's Wonderland and The Call (the Korean one from end of last year, I think december). Looking forward to Halloween Kills.
OMG Emma wtf I thought for sure that I had subbed to your channel and I noticed that I wasn't getting notifications from you and I could not find your channel on all my subscriptions and I literally just scour the internet for like 2 hours trying to find you but I finally did and I subbed so that was real life horror and I was seriously scared and thought I wouldn't be able to find you again. I'm so relieved rite meow lol. Love your channel and love your ex and even more keep on kicking out the good shit brobro!
Love my ex??? 😬
Saw a quiet place 2 a few weeks ago, already can hardly remember a single thing about it,
Also loved The Quiet Place Part 2 and I've spotted a lot of homages to Spielberg movies also. Fantastic film!
Oh really? I’d love to hear about them
Aussie here, I've been trying to access Boys From County Hell for at least six months now 😭 on the top of my to watch list!!!
Emma, such a fantastic list ! Going to watch TEDDY tonight thanks to you ( didn’t care for PSYCHO GORE MAN Mimi really got on my nerves - sorry, loved BLOCK ISLAND SOUND, thought SAINT MAUD was a tad overrated ) cannot wait to see A QUIET PLACE PART TWO. FEAR STREET was such a joy...as I said really great analysis LadyGirl 💜✌️👏🎥👻 I.J.S.
Not sure if it actually came out in 2020, but A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio was a fun, well put together anthology film. And some of the story scenes actually gave me the goosebumps 😳
Sacrifice with Barbara Crampton is a delight and, not sure when these actually hit the scene worldwide, but Sweetheart, and Becky (Lulu Wilson, Kevin James) were great.
Yes crazy that where already half way into the year already.
A Classin Horror Story was fun .. was kinda waiting for that to hit the list.
My favorite horror film so far this year would be Spiral, really enjoyed it
Love the diversity of your list! Mine so far is:
1. Saint Maud
2. A Quiet Place Part II
3. Seance
4. Initiation
5. Caveat
6. Wrong Turn
7. Willy’s Wonderland
8. Fear Street: 1994
9. Werewolves Within
10. Fear Street: 1978
I watched Caveat based on your review and found it pretty creepy. I would never agree to that chain though!
I guess I would go with Saint Maud and Censor. But the best is to come:
Candyman
Antlers
The Night House
Terrifier 2
The Profane Exhibit? (Yeah right)
Head full of ghosts
Texas Chainsaw massacre?
Don't Breathe 2
Halloween Kills
It probably won't make my Top Ten, but last night I watched a taut little thriller called "Till Death." Despite some preposterous turn-of-events, it still had some clever set pieces, and the direction was surprisingly competent. You may not be thinking about it the next day, but it's good for a Friday night guilty pleasure. Megan Foxx stars. And thanks for this latest list, Emma! I'm really looking forward to discovering some hidden gems!
Fear Street can so easily be overlooked.Enjoyed all three movies.
Glad you liked Psycho Goreman :)
Hunky boiissss
Caveat was criminally underrated. Great watch.
I was sitting here scrolling through a list of 2021 movies getting my watchlist together when this notification popped. Perfect timing!
I'm really excited about Terrifier 2 coming out!
NOT MY HUNKY BOYSSSSS!!! I also still can’t believe Saint Maud came out hahaha
