Hello Thomas, a fantastic video of the Durango and Silverton narrow gauge railway. Interesting are the diesel locomotives from the White Pass, seen here in their new livery. Great is the appearance of the K37#493 with its train, beautifully filmed as the steam train drives through this beautiful landscape. Thanks for showing and best wishes. Wolfgang
D&S originally bought them for MOW work and to use during high fire danger times. Converting from coal to oil has helped with the fire mitigation issue but the diesels also help preserve the longevity of the steam locomotives.
I know where 481,478 and 486 are one is in the shop getting oil burning and one is in the roundhouse museum getting a 15 1472 15 year inspection and 478 is getting oil burning too

Thanks, Wolfgang! There is something fun about the old Alco's.
@@YardLimitI agree with you, a great engine sound.
Love hearing those Alco prime movers!
They do sound cool!
Awesome and great shot at 4:15.
Thanks, Dom! Figuring out how to do that shot let me be in two places at once, basically.
I was there on the doubleheader train at 9 AM on October 4th, 2024
That's cool. I wasn't there that particular day, but I shot the double header on September 25. That video is upcoming.
@@YardLimit that was 2 days before my birthday on September 25th
Do you know when 481 is supposed to return to service as an oil burner?
I don't know but I assume it will be back next year when the D&S starts running to Silverton.
Since the D&S is converting all the steam to oil burning, why have the diesels?

Cheaper tickets for those who just want to ride the train and don’t care what’s pulling it.
