  • PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION! This bowl was given a thorough cleaning before we left for travel. During our travel, none of our birds have used it and it was kept in our kitchen, clean and unused. When we came back from travel, we found mold on it - now we know that we should keep our unused bowls on ziplock bags while we are gone to reduce the chance of mold growth (tip from the vet!). The good thing is we discovered this mold before putting the container back in their sleep cage when we returned from travel.
Summer is a dangerous time for our parrots due to high humidity leading to various fungal infections. Let's help each other raise awareness to protect our feathered babies!

Stainless steel bowls have an extremely low chance of mold development. 🙃

Thank you. We only use stainless steel bowls now.

If you washed them with soap and water regularly, this wouldn't happen. Should be washed at least a couple times a week

slowwhispers Hi slowwhispers! We wash all our bowls daily - and they should be washed daily, we were just shocked to find mold on our water bowl because it was washed before we went on our trip, it wasn't used at all while we were gone (our pet sitters usedd different containers), and had mold on it when we got back! Just a reminder to check not just the bowl but also the holders and all associated parts, especially if it has holes and areas that are not readily visible, esp in the summer because from the parrot forums we follow, we have seen a lot of fids passing away from fungal infections in the summer.

Flock of Five yes with this humidity it sure can creep up in places we don't expect. Glad you caught it when you did!!

This is good that I watched this video, because my vet suggested I get a dehumidifier and I didn’t take her seriously. It’s normally too dry where I am but not this summer. My issue was the bird was too hormonal, i didn’t even think of fungal infections.
