owned two of these a 1.6 and then a 2.0. Brilliant cars. Full of character and style. Get nostalgic for them.

I had a 1.6 (120bhp) in the mid 00s and it's still my all time favourite car. Currently own a Giulietta which is a close second.

you british guys have a nice SHOW but not relative good critics about cars..Thats the most about italian cars.If i see and episode from 90s you say just THE SAME THINGS about italian cars. For you the only buyer for an alfa romeo is somebody that wants to be different or stylish.Thats sad for you.Maybe you cant haddle that Italy is still active on car production but you failed

@Seayin great handling. really engaging engines, especially the TwinSpark units. Until you don't throw garbage oil at them and follow the maintenance recommendations you'll never run into any problem. JTD are indestructible but sadly you can't get the 2.4 units available on the 156 and 166, which is by far the most engaging diesel on Earth.
Speaking about built quality. Check a 20 year old Alfa. Everything in the interior will be in great condition. Especially the beautiful quilted leathers. Then check a 20 year old Audi or BM, haha, the leathers will be destroyed lmao.
The only trouble you'll have have to deal is with soft touch plastic (thanks journalists for yelling on Italians don't putting soft touch plastics everywhere like tHe gErManS dO) that get messy around 10 years after build. But really easily fixable. You'll find those BS soft plastics on door handles (the "grip" ones, not the opening ones) and windows buttons. Just clean it with regular soap or if you want it really efficient a bit of amoniac. Will be fixed lifetime. And that will be exactly the same problem in any BM, Audi, VW from this era. So stop bullshiting on Alfa.

@@TONY_FEZ The Selespeed gearbox is really reliable. Only trouble you'll run with it is on the sphere side that push the hydrolic system into pressure that won't work as well as it should after around 15 years. It was by far one of the most advanced simple clutch semiauto gearbox of its time computer side managing fine clutch slipping and gearchanges without a hitch unless you're full gas.

More like abusive driving and poor maintenance the root cause.
