Exactly. Dr. Doom isn't a crazy psycopath like Carnage or Bullseye. He is an arrogant douchebag that uses heroism to advance his world domination plans. He could fit surgery on Aunt May on his to do list.

i think this happened after decimation so... alternatively, they could have transferred her concius to a cloned body (that way they would have redeemed clones in spider-man's history)
Or they could have taken Aunt May to Namor, the guy once brought a woman back from the dead and turned her into an atlantian. And it's not like he was against going to supervillains as seen when he went to Doctor Doom and Doctor Octopus. Oh wait I forgot the Marvel Universe is run by morons.

Since Linkara actually is currently married now, how much do you wanna bet that among his wedding vows was that he would never trade his marriage to Mephisto? :P
but what if fat granma was dying and that was the only option because literaly all the magic and science in the universe can't heal a bullet wound? he might do it then, he can't live without her delicious pancakes!
The ironic thing is that the Clone Saga actually did more to mature Peter than any other storyline. It had him give up being Spider-Man, pass the torch to Ben Reilly, and settle down with Mary Jane. Also, Aunt May passed away before that and Peter handled it like an adult. He grieved, had a funeral, and he moved on. Let me reiterate: The Clone Saga had a better bit of character development than any other Spider-Man arcs. Let that sink in.
That’s party of why I always say the clone saga was actually really good…it’s just the writers/editorial got cocky and decided to have Peter be the clone which ended up fucking the story in the long run
+Gratuitous Lurking That, others and comparing that sentence as "Punk is nothing but death, crime and the rage of a beast level" of What the hell were you thinking?! LMAO
26:05 Black Panther the movie puts this into an even worse perspective...since it did have a character to literally took a bullet for T'Challa's friend...and he was treated within a day :T
Well maybe if Peter accepted his friend request on FB and would call once in a while BP would consider him a friend and say "Bring your aunt to me my friend, she'll see our finest doctors and receive our newest medical treatments"
A bullet that may have or I think straight up *did paralyze* said character since it was a shot into their spine, and yup, treated within a day with them being no worse for wear. How *no one* could help Spider-Man here was just absurd.
In my eyes the movie is how it should be. Here it's just *really* stupid. Where did all of that go? Plus in the movie, they *COULD* not only heal bullet wounds, but actually prevent paraplegia and erase all signs of injury or trauma, *in less than a day I might add.* Whoever wrote the movie is smarter than whoever wrote this book.
I sort of wish Strange's monologue went like this: "I do not doubt my ability to treat a bullet wound, but you of all people should know that your aunt is impossibly old. Any and all spells I could muster would just put her on borrowed time, and before you say the I word, those spells have way too many potential dangers. I doubt that even in this state you would accept your aunt being alive forever if it came at the cost of, say, you dying in return." And then after Peter does that vision thing (where I would give them reasons other than "can't treat the most common wound in the Spider-Verse", be it the Wakandan tech can't make it in time, Hank and Richards being a-holes, Otto refusing on the grounds of people probably not wanting New York's most iconic criminal anywhere near a hospital (and hating Spidey), and Spidey having the foresight to think that maybe getting trapped in an even bigger cycle of misery at the hands of Doom is a boneheaded idea) he concludes: "Peter, Aunt May's death was going to happen bullet wound or not, the sooner you accept that, the better YOUR chances of recovery may be. Sorry."
Agree with this except for Doctor Octopus. Otto 1. Loved Aunt May, and even after the whole silly marriage with Doc Ock was done, they established many times after that Otto felt May was the only person to give him a chance or treat him like a human. Also, in Web of Death, Doctor Octopus healed Spider-Man himself from a virus that would kill him within 24 hours.
A reason I liked the marriage is because it felt like Peter actually took responsibility for what happened like he actually grew and developed as a character and then one more day destroyed that development
26:18 Actually, Doctor Octopus would absolutely want to help. Doctor Octopus loved Aunt May, and comments a lot that even though he was using her, he always felt she was the only person who was kind to him or gave him a chance. Plus, in the Web of Death arc from 1994, Doc Ock was willing to heal Spider-Man/Peter Parker himself when he was infected by an unknown virus that would kill him in 24 hours, because Peter would always owe him a favor. Doc Ock would be able to hit two birds with one stone by healing May, so it makes no sense that he would refuse. And even if he couldn't do it, you can bet he'd try till the last living second, cuz Doc Ock can never accept failure of his scientific mind.
This story is actually disregarding another storyline from JMS's run, at the end of which Loki himself (who obviously has the power to save Aunt May) states that he is in Spidey's debt, even giving him the means to contact him by.
This is why I like PS4 Spider-man's story and Spider-verse. They doing what Marvel refuse to do with Peter Parker: allow him to grow up, take his responsibility and ensure the next generation. Sure, it's suck that doesn't happen in the main comics but it's still a little something.
@@harryshum4139 I mean Mary Jane I’d like a reporter more like Kristen dunst and complains about being treated like a baby despite putting herself in danger instead of a model and sassy who is capable of taking care of herself. Norman isn’t as psychopathic and doc ock is a composite of curt connors.
Also, No Way Home allows Peter to sacrifice his own social life for the exchange of his friends' happiness. Plus, the film has the balls to kill aunt May.
@@billymccrary2246 Personally I hate total reboots unless they come after a really really big story showing a true ending for the continuity we love. besides with Marvel openly being a Multiverse, a better idea would be an ultimate's style imprint that shows different continuities but 616 is still safe.
The funny thing about Linkara's big rant about Peter in this episode is that I agree with nearly all his points and Spider-Man is my favorite superhero. In fact, while I do like the other runs of Spider-Man, it was the JMS run that made him my favorite. Why? Because that run had him learn and grow up. JMS injected new life and ideas into the character, having him learn from his experiences, literally evolving himself at one point to become stronger, and had the character take on more responsibility and care for is wife and his aunt. While I can certainly understand why some people don't like Dan Slott's Spider-Man run, I do really like that Peter owns his own company now. Why? Because like with JMS's run, it is pushing the character forward out of the box Marvel wants to keep him in. Marvel wants Peter to be the everyman down on his luck loser who has no idea what he's doing so that he can be completely relatable. But never moving forward is not relatable. I like what the ending of Superior Spider-Man pointed out, that Peter needed to stop holding himself back and realize his potential and I like that Parker Industries is him doing that. I hate One More Day because it forced the character to move backwards after JMS had done so much to move him forwards, both as a man and a hero. And right now I'm terrified that Marvel will someday demand that Parker Industries has to go, because they can't ever allow one of their biggest selling heroes to be a fully realized man or hero. To them, they think people only care about Peter while he's growing, not when he's grown. They want Peter to be learning about responsibility, not knowing responsibility.
Eamonn Deane Now that is a fair criticism. While Black Cat's character hasn't been completely destroyed for me by these changes to her, I can most certainly understand why people are upset about it.
Tevya Smolka I know, I heard. Which makes me both sad and kind of angry, because God forbid we ever make any lasting positive change to the status quo. Can wait until we go back to doing the exact same f**king thing again.
well personally in my opinion this one of the rare exception i am happy that Parker industries is going away mostly because he didn't build it. it was otto he built this stupid company to begin with and plus nobody likes peter owning his own company nobody so i think it's time PI goes away
Tevya Smolka Otto may have started it up but it's Peter's inventions and the inventions of those he hired that's keeping it going. Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark didn't start their companies, they inherited them, but no one gives them crap for it because they still work hard to keep it going. Same with Peter. And the reason I like Parker Industries is because it's something new in the Spider-Man mythos that is a positive change for the character and gives new stories to tell with the character.
IMO one of the worst parts of the comic is the fact that even though May's spirit tells Peter to let her go so she can be with Uncle Ben again Peter ignores that and tries to save her anyway because apparently Peter thinks it's all about him and his guilt for letting her get shot by Kingpin's assassin because he unmasked himself in front of the world and to hell with what she wants. And for all Peter's preaching about "with great power comes great responsibility" he never really takes responsibility for his actions because in his selfish mind his whiny self pitying belief that everything is his fault seems to be far more important to him.
@@jaysmith3173 Yeah but that's not who Peter is. Peter and been a mature adult for the last 7 years of the book. He had grown up from the immature teenager he started off as, and advanced in life. One More Day turned Peter back into his immature self, except now he was acting like a 10 year old when he was actually 26, and undid any character development given to him since 1987. Actually, I mean since 1980, because he acts like how he was in the 70's.

Then the entire spiderfamily shows up for big event stuff. ...Also given Doc Ock at one point had a thing for Aunt May, having HIM do the surgery to save her would've actually been a good plot point.

Imagine if it happens in the comics where Peter fully deciding to move on from his Aunt May's death and asking Doctor Strange to erased everyone's memory of Peter revealing his identity as Spider-Man to the public during Civil War, as Peter and Mary Jane are allowed to live in a peaceful life as a loving and caring family, eventually start raising a children together, as well. Now that of How One More Day Should've Had Ended, folks, beside of what Joe Quesada did, just saying, everyone.
You know what would have greatly improved the story? Replace Mephisto with Loki. There was Spider-Man/Loki team-up story during JMS' run on Spider-Man, where Spidey helps Loki to save his daughter, that ended with Loki giving Spidey an Asgardian artifact that lets Spider-Man call him, if he ever needs help. So it would have been properly set-up and since Loki could have access to all kinds of magical stuff, it would be more believable that he could rewrite Spidey's personal history than giving Mephisto OP powers from thin air. Not to mention that making a deal with Loki would be less problematic than one with a devil. Sure, the overal story would still be crap, but at least it would be little bit better.
TheWolverine1987 Ah man now I just want to open some dimensional portal and yell this in Spidey's face "YOU HAVE A GOD WHO OWED YOU ONE!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT!" then it would end with me yelling the Elder Swear from Potter Puppet Pals at him and follow it up with a Kirk Summation.Also...correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Thor also owe Spidey one around the events of Civil War and OMD?
+Chocobo0Scribe If it was JMS writing it, he would somehow make it to where Loki can't do anything about a bullet wound. Apparently the bullet is made from a plot device generator!
spiderboy43 Well, Loki is God of Mischief, so you could argue that he would have his reasons to not just heal May and get some personal gain from rewriting history.
The whole thing with mephisto was enforced upon him i guess (poor JMS, he had one of the bet runs in spider-man so far, but they screwed him over with this). Some people want to peter take a faor of Loki now in currant stories (especiall how Loki is currently sorcerer supreme) to help him recover what he lost. I hope in the process they invole X-23, Deadpool. Doctor Doom/Infamous Iron Man, Mania, Thanos, and all otehr superheroes and illains who had been screwed over by Mehisto
Man,powerful stuff you said about Spidey. I "discovered" the mainstream version of Spider-Man through an Spider-man Encyclopedia I brought at a school book fair. I learned about all the characters that had existed in spider-man up until 2005. It was strange to me that Spider-Man, a character that was always marketed as a young teenage superhero, had a wife and a daughter (who was listed as deceased in the encyclopedia). I couldn't have been older than 12 at the time, and I couldn't even fathom that Peter Parker might have more in common with my parents then I would. Eventually, I did come to terms with this, because Spider-Man taught a 12 year old me some important lessons. Life goes on,we all grow up and become adults, things will always change, and that's not a bad thing. My heart will always belong to Superman for helping me grow into a better person, but Spider-Man will always have a place there for helping me learn to accept growing up.That Spider-Man encyclopedia was not the only thing I brought at that book fair. I also brought a Spider-Girl trade-paperback.
Hey I got a Spidergirl trade too. I saw the mask and didnt notice the boobs haha 13 year old me was oblivious. It was destroyed years ago in a move sadly.
Lindsay put it best on Civil War in her loose canon episode of Captain America when she said this: "The government imposes a superhuman registration act. Iron Man supports it, Captain America opposes it, everyone acts completely out of character to make the whole civil war premise work, aaaaaand it's terrible." Literally takes some of Marvel's best characters and proceeds to step all over them. Civil War is pretty awful, but good lord One More Day certainly gives it a run for its money.
This is a late response but Civil War film made more sense. Tony takes responsibility for risk taking independent attitude and sides with the government (Ultron was a wake up call). Captain America realizes individuals and not systems need to protect people. Systems and protocols can be abused for self gain. (Hydra was a wake up call). I don't think comic Civil War gave a logical explanation for Tony Stark's actions. Captain America made a little sense because he distrusts Shield but it still wasn't well written.
@@logicaloverdrive8197 Civil War 2 is better than Civil War 1 but that's like saying burnt cookies (Civil War 2) are better than spoiled milk you find in the trash (Civil War).

How O.M.D. should have ended: Peter rejects the offer, says his goodbye to Aunt May, and she dies...until she gets brought back to life, like, a year later because comic books.
OMD served for the single purpose of getting rid of the marriage (Why they did it this way instead of just reversing time and rebooting Spider-man I have no idea) but it's laziness shows. The writing here goes beyond "suspension of disbelief." this goes into because the plot demands it story. it makes Anakin's turn to Darth Vader look like a clever plot twist in my opinion, and that's saying something.
Flashpoint might be better (especially the movie), but in the whole scheme of things is worse? why? because one more day only screwed 616 peter. Flashpint (and by extension flash rebirth), screwed Barry's origin story permanently so in all versions of his origin after that one (minus the barry allen of Young Justice Cartoon) Reverse Flash gets the last laugh by robbing barry of ever having a life as not only as a happier flash, but with both of his parents alive, and all the repercusions.
@@ianr.navahuber2195 I disagree. New 52 at least has quite a few good characters, even if it did screw up a few. And it was ended after 5 years with Rebirth. I didn't like a lot of New 52, but I also did like a lot of it. It was a neat concept that was badly executed. One More Day on the other hand, has been around for for 13 years and ruined the character of Spider-Man from 2008-2018. We still haven't recovered from One More Day yet.
@@goldenstatewarriors9418 I 100% agree with your comment. DC Rebirth is better than New 52 because of the mistakes New 52 made. It was a necessary evil to give new concepts for storylines involving characters like Barry Allen. Even tho it screwed over certain characters. I think DC Rebirth corrected most of these mistakes.
Well, considering that most comic book writers nowadays grew up reading and loving comic books, technically ALL official comic storylines are fan fictions in disguise now. It's just that there is good fan fiction and bad fan fiction. No points for guessing in which camp OMD falls into.
I would. For all the bad rap fan fictions get, and there are plenty bad ones, but many people put a lot of effort into it. Not everything is Mary Sue OC's and sexualization.
I like how the Critic reacts with abject terror whenever Bennett showed up, but Linkara just gets annoyed and throws him out. And that is why he is our universe's champion.
As he said, Ben's bit is dead at this point plus it would've worked better when he got to the deal part but Peter being an irresponsible twat just pissed him off to the point where he didn't want to do it anymore.
Honestly I think Linkara's point about spider man's lack of growth is probably why Doc Ock's time as the superior spider man sold so well. He went back to school, he thought strategically, he learned from his mistakes. And now that peter's back it looks like he's making the same mistakes with the company Oc built him. I miss smart Spidey...
+indy6s THANK YOU!!!! finally someone who gets it, those and many reasons more is why i love superior spiderman the only thing i didn't like was the peter parker obiwan kenobi ghost whining in every page that he appears, it was the only time that spiderman make others respect him instead of being treat it like the "new kid" and get shit done but noooooooooooooooooo! we can have something good can we? and marvel not only brought new shitty spider characters that we don't care about but they didn't let superior spiderman to exist or get his own book or elseworld story but they bring peter being young and an idiot again along with miles morales the ultimate spiderman 2.0 that nobody ask for.

slifer875 well your in luck because Otto is Spider-Man in San Francisco and it’s great and sorry I like Peter and miles in the same city being Spider-Man they just call him the smaller one especially rhino 😂😂
Honestly, I like the "favor for doom" idea the best since that would be reason for MJ to possibly break it off. For this whole senseless quest to save someone who is ready to move on, and further tarnish his soul by agreeing to work for a villain, no questions asked. But that would require him to get a divorce, which these dummies treated like how one should treat a plague.
Considering that Doc Ock likes Aunt May, he’d probably be willing to help even if he does hate Spider-Man. He knows Peter’s her nephew and helping him would get in her good books.
So a video game and a movie featuring all 3 movie actors can do this one more day story better and have Peter grow up but the comic writers refuse to let him grow up and act like an adult
To an extent, No Way Home did do it better but still features the same problem of refusing to let the character change the status quo. Heck, it even ends with him broke in Tobey Maguire's apartment with a symbiote on the way 🙄
and he made a mistake with that and then when to fix or try to fix it. Yes, he had help, but he made the choice to change. Also, Aunt May stayed died too.
I would LOVE Spider-Verse 2 if the plot was literally Mephisto stealing the marriages of different Spider-Men and Miles, Gwen, Miguel, 90's TAS Spidey, Spectacular Spider-Man Spidey and Supaidaman have to go around and undo Mephisto's crazy rampage It's the best I could come up with in a quick short time but someone can add on to it
It's quite crazy how no way home is kind of an adaptation to this story but drastically improved, like how the civil war movie was so much better than the comic series.
It's really probably for the best that Reed Richards couldn't do anything to help. With his track record, it would probably result in Aunt May's brain floating around creating psychically controlled zombies or something else equally bad and ridiculous.
This is my favorite episode of AT4W. Even before I was interested in comics, I knew about one more day and even I thought it was a stupid idea. And how you just tear apart every single stupid thing in this book is both hilarious and insightful. I especially like your speech on spider man. It's always about what Peter wants no matter what it does to the people around him. Which is only interesting if they slowly learn which like you said he doesn't. I didn't even really notice but once you stop and think about it, it stands out a lot in quite a few stories. Also that line about the little girl walking makes me crack up every time!
Others have probably already brought this up, but there's an irony to One More Day exemplifying Marvel's inability to let Peter mature, in that earlier arcs of JMS's run gave us some wonderful stories where he was allowed to develop. He became a science teacher, he reunited with MJ, Aunt May found out his secret identity and it made their relationship even stronger. He was shown as an adult, and I loved those storylines. More than a decade since, and he keeps getting nobbled anytime he looks like he reach that level of growth again.
And now here we are. 13 years after this book, 7 years after this review and Nick Spencer's Amazing Spider-Man Last Remains storyline seems to finally, FINALLY be DOING SOMETHING WITH THIS. I doubt the marriage will ever return but Spencer's actually addressing the core issue of One More Day, that Peter failed to take responsibility and was horrifically derailed as a character because of it. Time to celebrate by watching Linkara tear this crap apart again!
Ah, one of my favorite reviews to go back to. It almost makes me sick how stupid this comic is. The deal with Mephisto is bad enough, but the writing itself is just awful: Peter being so selfish, whiny, and immature, and the whole thing being so contrived that no one, not even the smartest people in the world, can heal a friggin bullet wound... I do love your deconstruction of Peter, though. One of your best speeches, next to the one you made in Holy Terror. =)
TPrower I agree. Although the 100th episode was ok IMO (the part where the critics along with special guests sung the AT4W theme was awesome), the 200th (and 300th) episode is one of all time favorites. Spider-Man making a deal with the devil could've been interesting if not for bad writing such as bullet wounds can't be healed when it comes to Aunt May. Peter was truly a big baby in this episode and it was interesting and true when it comes Peter Parker being very irresponsible and acting like a teenager most of the time. God, I just wanted to smack the guy over and over about him being Superboy Prime.
laz kar 1) Calm Down. 2) Yes, he is Spider-Man. He's Spider-Man Prime aka Spider-Man who has the mind of a idiot teenager aka the guy many didn't grow up with. Bad writing and decisions turned Peter Parker into a non-sympathetic baby who can't take responsibility with his actions and everything has to be about him and his feelings. I know Peter wouldn't be like this but here, he's comparable to SBP. One More Day made him comparable to Superboy Prime. That's how bad this comic book was.
laz kar Of course not unless there were moments where guys like MJ and the doctor criticized to Peter all of the things Linkara said to him. I'd laugh/be satisfied about that. And as I said, he's comparable to SBP to the point where I'd call him Spider-Man Prime b/c to Linkara, he's whiny, irresponsible and selfish much like SBP. He ain't overpowered or a murderer (to him, he killed May cuz of his action) but IMO he's psychotic for making a deal with Satan and choosing his aunt over his wife. Spidey wouldn't say that but he said other stupid things here including the constant "It's all my fault! I can't live with her dead cuz of me!"
And here we are. I don't remember when exactly in 2012 I started watching Atop the 4th Wall, but I do know I watched the 200th episode when it was first released. This is my benchmark. It's amazing how it's almost been 3 years. And look at everything that's happened in that time…
Scott Sandler I've been watching him for about 2 now and I wish I watched him from the beginning I kept seeing him cameo in other channel awesome shows, such as NC, Phalous and Nostalgia chick so I finally thought he must be good but I didn't know what he did at the time but if I knew he reviews comics I would've been here years ago always been a huge super hero fan grew up watching the 90's x men cartoon, the 90s spiderman, Batman the animated series, TeenTitans and more not just a marvel fanboy even though I do enjoy they're films I can only watch them all the way through once the only exceptions being Spiderman Homecoming, Gaurdirnds 1&2 and Iron man (maybe the trilogy) the rest to me are just ok and not very good films, yes they're made well on a technical level but there's no substance to them so point being that they can't hold a candle to the classic cartoons mainly of the 90s so glad I'm a 90's kid, cause the new cartoons marvel put out are terrible to me exceptions being spiderman cartoons but yet again the new ones terrible. But DC have the animated universe game on lock! Under the red hood, Phantasm, and so much more yes DC aren't doing great arguably not even good, but they're animations a different story I can't wait for batman ninja I'm a huge comic book, manga and anime fan and having it be made by people who've made my favourite series about FRIGGIN' BATOMAN (yes I said bato instead of bat because of how the Japanese pronounce things) but damn idc I'm a nerd and I'm so glad I'm alive right now!
This is basically a repost from Comic Island's review of OMD but this comic literally makes me that angry. It's my "Cry For Justice". That's the problem with One More Day, in order to achieve it's desired endgoal (undoing Peter and MJ's marriage) it has to LITERALLY contort and break the rules of the Marvel Universe in order to do it with characters being ether idiots or have them suddenly not have the power to heal a bullet wound when before this comic they could! Is Joe Quesada saying that Reed Richards; MR. FANTASTIC cannot heal a bullet wound or at the very least extend her life? That DOCTOR DOOM wouldn't help in exchange for a favor from Peter at an undisclosed point in time? BULLSHIT! Oh, and DOCTOR STEVEN STRANGE; THE MASTER OF THE MYSTICAL ARTS; THE SORCERER SUPREME! Cannot heal a bullet wound. Steven, you have an endless array of mystical spells and artifacts and NONE of them can help? Even before you were the sorcerer supreme you were a world-famous SURGEON! You couldn't conjor up a pair of hands to operate on May? I mean yeah your hands were damaged but you still had the skills! Dammit Quesada, why did you make Doctor Strange an idiot?!? Oh yeah, then he INSULTS the readers by telling them they're losers so keep buying our crap loser! NO I'm STILL NOT DONE! Like AM from "I have No Mouth And I Must Scream" I hate this comic with every fiber of my being! It has TO THIS DAY been responsible for the reason I do not pick up the 616 Spider-Man comics. As a kid, Spider-Man was my hero and I wanted to be like him and this comic took sadistic glee in ripping the Spider-Man I liked to shreds and replaced him with a bastardized version of himself. I hope One More Day will be retconned out of existence and have Peter married to MJ again because never has my hate for a comic like this been so strong my hate for it could power an entire city forever, it makes want to buy every copy of the trade just so I can build a bonfire and burn every copy in existence! But that's not the worst part, it destroys any chance of Mayday Parker to one day become Spider-Girl, it destroys the integrity of Peter Parker FOR MAKING A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL, and retroactively serves as a big fuck you to the Jim Shooter era of Marvel. And ALL for the goal of having Peter become single again and not letting him grow up. They can't have them have a divorce cause that would make Peter appear "old" according to Marvel. It's why I'm loving the "Renew Your Vows" limited series for Secret Wars cause it actually allowed Peter to grow and take the next step in his development as a character and it was a new and exciting direction.
I have to agree, this story could have had Peter learn to stop blaming himself for everything and learn that sometimes he has to move on. His aunt told him to move on but no the writers had to do this shit.
Webshooters1 It's both sad and pathetic that Marvel couldn't find a reasonable explanation as to why people who can play break the laws of physics on a semi-regular basis couldn't save Aunt May. There are several simple options: - There wasn't time to reach anyone or they were unavailable, as Linkara pointed out. - They could heal her body, but her soul/mind was too disconnected from her body to properly inhabit it. Thus she'd be alive but a vegetable and no one was willing to do that to her. - Mephisto secretly prevents Peter from meeting anyone who could help, thus making him desperate enough to make the deal. And speaking of Mephisto, he is way to generous in this comic. Gives exactly (if not more) what he offers and wants a pittance in return. When you make a deal with the devil you are supposed to get screwed over. They could have easily included a page with Mephisto gloating about how Peter unwitting played into his hands. The deal prevents their daughter from being born (pseudo-murder), keeps Aunt May from reuniting with her husband, rips Mary-Jane from her family, and is a corruption of Peter's morality. You'd think an embodiment of evil would gloat over that.
Webshooters1 Let me extend the list of complaints with another thing. Sometime before this comic, Peter met with The One Above All, the ultimate power in the Marvel Universe, who came to talk to Peter about his time as Spider-Man. He was feeling sad about the people he lost at the time, and The One Above All shows him all of the good he had done. He lost people close to him, like Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn, but has saved hundreds of thousands of lives thanks to his actions. Despite the negative consequences, his time as Spider-Man has been without a doubt beneficial to the world, and has made it better as a result. Right after this, Peter apparently doesn't care. His own personal losses are greater than the lives of thousands, and he is willing to have his life as Spider-Man erased just to get back the people he lost because of it. I can understand being upset about your losses, heck, I can understand depression... but not caring even one iota about the people you saved??? If he really DIDN'T care about these people, he would have stopped endangering himself, and by extension his loved ones YEARS ago!!!
Webshooters1 I'm afraid I need to disagree with you on "Renew Your Vows" for certain reasons, and before I get assaulted - I hate One More Day like you and pretty much everyone else that is sane. I'd like to debate with you on the limit series (by the time of this post it would be two issues in so far) if you wouldn't mind.
Having recently lost my granddad, the one grandparent i was closest to since my nan passed away when i was younger, rewatching this review is really hard (although I still adore it). The comic comes off as really callous about how people deal with the death of loved ones, particularly when they are slowly dying on a hospital bed and you know that any day you're going to turn up and they're not going to be there anymore I would give a lot for another day to say my farewells to my granddad, to tell him everything that I wasn't able to get around to in life, but I know at the same time that my Granddad wouldn't want me to sacrifice my own happiness with someone else for his life.
The elsewords story where Peter accidentally swings into the mephisto bird smashing it into a wall and winding up getting help from Dr Doom thus creating the "Cyborg Aunt May" Saga is a bestseller in the Good Timeline.
16:54 thank you hit the nail on the end I hate how the more power or more responsible it gets taken by a irresponsible reason and he’s back to being some other problem
I just love your bit about how not many people would object to Tony helping Aunt May. It's just that delivery on "Let her diiieeee" that cracks me up every time. XD
If the story beats for this part HAD to be that Peter goes to see Tony, demanding that he helps Aunt May, resulting in Jarvis visiting the hospital with the "bottomless checkbook", then the circumstances become so dire that a deal with the Devil somehow becomes more likely, I would've done it this way: Like you suggested, Peter agrees to turn himself in in exchange for Aunt May's treatment, Jarvis is sent off to the hospital and May starts to be seen to, on the way to being turned in, a villain attacks, somehow the attack affects the city's power grid at a crucial moment during the procedure at the hospital, once the villain is down Peter immediately goes to the hospital to find that Aunt May died, and the city's in chaos during the blackout thanks to looters, other criminals running amok and people panicking, Peter is severely strained both physically and emotionally as a result of this on top of everything else, then he sees the little girl walk into a dark alleyway and runs after her to make sure she doesn't get hurt. I won't act like it's the perfect version, but I certainly think it's more palatable than what we actually got, without Doctor Strange only adding to the contrivance pile, or Spidey pointlessly reliving the shooting and fighting whatever those things were.
Personally I would have had Mephisto secretly be the cause of Aunt May's inevitable death to begin with, possibly using the bullet wound as a cover for the real issue that he instills on her. It'd explain why there's no cure for what appears to be a simple bullet wound. Not only would this give Spider-Man a new, huge enemy, but it'd make a hell of a twist and fill in a huge plot hole in the story. Of course, I would have also written for Spidey to REJECT the deal and beat the shit out of the devil before managing to get away and having a very touching scene with Aunt May again before she passed away, but that's just me.
Spencer McClure I like that, and it's good of you to think of a better explanation for the "can't heal bullet wounds" shlock, as you probably know I personally decided to skip that altogether, and yeah in an ideal world I would've done the same sort of thing as you regarding the actual deal.
I generally don't read comics, but I have a fringe interest, but they mentioned that Dr. Doom would probably do it as soon as Peter mentioned that Mr. Fantastic couldn't.
Better yet, why not have Strange say that it was simply Aunt May's time and he won't interfere with the natural order of things? Or say it's a fixed point in time?! That works for Doctor Who!!!
It occurs to me- this could have been a sendoff to the totemic concept. After Peter’s done begging the universe for help, Pete gets warped to a fancy mansion where the little girl meets him. Pete’s more freaked out by her greeting him with a hug & calling him “Daddy”. When asked her name she says she doesn’t know. Pete says everyone’s got a name, to which the girl sadly smiles before instigating a game of tag- running Peter through a myriad of doors, each one letting him experience a failed relationship from the perspective of the other person (let’s let artists play with imagining other characters a Spider-folks like Liz or J.J.). Peter finds her in the master bedroom playing with various toys & joins her, catching his breath. When asked if he had fun he replies with a firm “no”, telling how he felt after each encounter- disheartened, mad, tired & lonely. The place grows cold, the girl didtressingly quiet as Mephisto enters in the form of a butler, blowing off Pete’s questions of where he’s at or who the kid is. After some taunting about how Spidey defeats himself, Mephisto poofs in M.J. & gives his pitch. After pretending to think it over both tell him to get lost. An unphased Mephisto whistles in Blackheart, who begins wrapping the ladies in webbing. Mephisto/as teen Flash Thompson): Care to reconsider, Puny Parker? The demon says heroes are fun to mess with due to their hard morality, that after endless trials the smallest loss can send them off track. Not Peter though. He’s the good boy, always self sacrificing, does good for others even at the cost of himself. Peter says heroics mean nothing if his loved ones are hurt, causing Blackheart to burst out laughing . “Didn’t our little game teach you anything?” As Pete tries to save MJ & the girl, Mephisto’s says he’s surprised Pete’s held out this long without demanding the nature of the girl, since he’s so curious. Suddenly it clicks to Pete: this is the daughter that he & MJ lost at birth. With every bit of will he’s got, lets out webbing to save MJ & the girl, his body glowing with extra arms. The demons are beaten, draining him of his power. He awakens at home to Aunt May puttering in the kitchen fit as a fiddle, M.J having left early. On his door on the way to the Bugle, Pete finds a note of thanks from a”Dr. Nancy”, to which he waves to the door across the hall.
It has been 11 years and I am STILL not over this monstrosity. One of if not THE reason why I have always liked Marvel more than DC is because Marvel doesn’t feel the need to keep rebooting their universe. But THIS thing that doesn’t even deserve to called a comic retconned 20 YEARS of Spider-Man comics, including some of Spider-Man’s greatest stories including Spider-Man Blue, The Amazing Spider-Man #300 introducing Venom, and Kraven’s Last Hunt. Also, Linkara, please review Spider-Man: The Other
If you want a good example of a version of Spider-Man that does grow up, I'm referring to Peter B. Parker from into the spider verse! Honestly, I'm shocked that not one show or film has done this ever! ruclips.net/video/MN33Yh2cqhI/видео.html
I loved the what-if version of this where Peter puts on the black suit and just straight up murders Kingpin. He accepts the responsibility of murdering a man, and happily goes to jail knowing full well that he avenged his aunt and, for better pr worse, changes the criminal underworld by removing the Kingpin.
Also, by law, hospitals cannot deny anyone life-saving treatment, regardless of their ability to pay. My first thoughts were that the comic writers decided to ignore this fact just to create a scenario where Tony Stark could show some good qualities again, but even then that amounted to nothing, as no form of magic or super-science could heal Aunt May anyways. Just an extra bit of stupid to pile on to this comic
There’s so much potential in this story to make Spider-Man have the strongest meaning of taking responsibility of your actions one way or another. But instead, let’s do a bad fanfic to keep Spider-Man exactly the same forever
As much as I love Spidey... I have to agree with you on the way he is characterised. I like that potral of him but I think at some point he should have got to the point where he only usies his powerrs to fight Super Villians. And focus on his personal life the rest of the time
A good option to "Reboot" Spider-Man was during the clone saga! they should let Ben as Spider-Man an Peter finally being a responsable adult taking care of his family! let Osborn dead and Peter´s daughter alive!
If I hadn’t seen this video when I was teenager, I would still be convinced Mephisto is the one who erased everyone’s memory of Peter’s Identity. Nowadays, I’m nitpicking people are saying that it’s Mephisto who erased everyone knowing Spider-Man is Peter and now saying that the MCU Doctor Strange is actually Mephisto because of One More Day…I remember watching this Linkara review and when leaning all Mephisto ask was the marriage to save Aunt May, I looked harder on how Peter’s identity went to the status quo and learned it was from Doctor Strange. Memory’s fuzzy on this, but if Peter shows his face to someone, they get their memories back, as when he did that to the Fantastic Four, they immediately welcomed him as a part of their family.
Your speech about Peter being irresponsible is why I like that in most adaptations he’s depicted as a high schooler. Because being in high school would explain why he’s immature and makes selfish choices. He’s a TEENAGER. And teenagers don’t make good choices. Why can’t comics put him back in high school?
Oh boy, oh boy. I am a sucker for grand displays of hatred, and so Linkara's fabled disdain for this very comic was yet another thing that drew me to this series. And the epic payoff is even better than I imagined. Bravo, thank you, and I wish you all the best.
Some years down the line when Joe Qasada has left and they finally undo Mephisto’s stupid deal, here’s a terrifying idea: what if it turns out there’s not one but an infinite set of infinity stones? After all, the universe is infinite or at least close to it. And Mephisto’s whole “deal“ WAS meant for something else other than the soul, but it was not his marriage. It would turn out that Mephisto actually used his own mind gem to manipulate Spiderman and whoever he came into contact with in order to get what he wished, consent from the willing soul to alter time. It would turn out that everyone Spiderman talk to COULD heal a bullet wound obviously, but Mephisto mind controlled every single one of them using his own mind gem to block the knowledge of how to heal a balloon from their minds, again manipulating Spiderman. And as his goal drew near, he decided to manipulate Spiderman himself with his mind gem in order to effectively seal the deal. Why Spiderman specifically? Because Spiderman, being the most popular and well-known superhero even in universe has affected the lives of almost every marvel individual. By altering the future ever so slightly, it would allow him to acquire the final secret infinity stone that’s one of a kind, by having the beings who guard it be not on their guard. with the stone, he can use it in unison with the others, dominating over not just his universe, but all universes and dimensions, intent on supplanting the ruler of hell and transforming all realities and all dimensions of it all universes into one hell dimensional that he would dominate. Spiderman would go “how can I effect this much, I started out as a small superhero who stopped bank robberies!“ My sister would reply something along the lines of “well as your planet would say, it’s called a butterfly effect.” The whole thing would be add epic but somewhat satirical comic about how everything appears to revolve around Spiderman and how overblown marvels events could become.
You know I'm surprised there isn't a thing called superhero life insurance. Like say if the hero dies and they find out who they are the government instantly decided to pay their respects by funding the family through their time of grief
he did. it still blew up in his face. and in the process made all potential love interests of peter (carlie cooper, MJ, black cat), to get the heel away from him. I hope black cat currently realizes "wait, wasn't doc ock part of the hydra avengers" and goes after him and stops being a villain to peter and miles, and goes back to her neutral roots
I’ve always wondered about something with Peter Parker and the whole “great power comes great responsibility” he believes in. What exactly makes being Spider-Man his responsibility to begin with? If it’s really because his uncle died, then it’s clearly out of guilt over his own failure, not out of responsibility. Bruce Wayne became Batman because he believed that Gotham needed something for its criminals to fear, to prevent what happened to him as a kid doesn’t happen to anyone else. He may feel some guilt over it but at least he takes responsibility (for the most part) in how he goes about it and why. For Peter, he doesn’t need to be Spider-Man, it’s not his responsibility because his uncle died of a situation that was semi-his fault. And while I am at it, I take issue with how almost every media of Spider-Man treats the use of his powers being a bad thing if it’s used for personal gain outside of crime-fighting. What’s wrong with using his powers to get better paying jobs to pay the bills or even doing professional wrestling of the sort? I can understand that he shouldn’t steal or kill for money, that’s just plain wrong. I just don’t like how the writers behind him always try to teach that “if he’s using his powers for any sort of personal gain, he’s not being a good guy”. It’s not a good message.
Approx. 27:00 : It gets even WORSE. One person Peter definitely would've contacted would be Beast of the X-Men. Long-time X-Man Archangel had been discovered, four years earlier in real time (who knows how much earlier in comic time) to have HEALING BLOOD. Archangel was with the team X-Force at the time, this version of which was heavily connected to the X-Men and not a splinter militaristic group like Cable's version of the team. They also had Elixir with the team, an OMEGA-LEVEL mutant with COMPLETE HEALING POWERS. Spider-Man is one of the X-Men's closest allies, to the point that Wolverine had him join the faculty of the Jean Grey School for a time. Oh, and that's not to mention Franklin Richards' reality warping powers. The kid created a whole pocket universe to bring the Fantastic Four, Avengers, etc. back to life after they sacrificed themselves to stop Onslaught. True, that was a subconscious use of his powers, but his powers ARE known to numerous individuals including Professor X, Doctor Doom, and, oh yeah, Reed flippin' Richards who Peter consults with! Surely he could think to at least have his son TRY, even if it doesn't work! Truly, your solution of having Doctor Strange be unavailable at the time is the ONLY WAY this story could make sense at the outset. The ending still would be completely out-of-character, but...
15:46 “Peter Parker is one of the most irresponsible superheroes ever.” Considering all the points Linkara proceeds to make for this, and contrasting that with Superman’s actions in *his* comics, plus the “world of cardboard” speech… Shouldn’t “With great power comes great responsibility” be *Superman’s* motto?
Linkara's rant about Spider-Man is pretty accurate, to the point Doc Ock did more to get Peter's life together in a couple(?) months with his stolen body, than Peter himself in a decade. Even worse, Peter managed to quickly lose the doctorate AND the company Octavius had built with his identity! Superior Spider-Man was when I first tried to follow the Spider-Man comics (a few years after the facts, actually; Superior was a good story, but a detestable status-quo), and I couldn't believe how quickly Marvel was eager to take away everything Peter had gained during this arc.
Dr. Octopus would probably help . Yes , he hates Spider - Man , but he loves Aunt May . After all , they did almost get married once !! Plus , I like the music at the end . That is from the Star Trek : The Next Generation cliffhanger with the Borg !! Even I recognize that !!
The reason for one more day kind of confuses me because they wanted to make Spider-Man younger but they’d had the ultimate Spider-Man book so what’s the point.
15:31 Honestly after a major reevaluation of Spiderman character on my end I have to agree but think its more about Peter misinterpreting With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility as this You Must Be Spiderman and Spiderman as much as you can which is horse crap you have a responsibility to yourself and the people in your life as well and those have to take priority its not that hard to recognize it and if you want to pull up the Uncle Ben example that's an outlier because he was actually there in the moment and not say out on a date with his girlfriend when the shocker was spotted 12 blocks over in a city that is a literal breeding ground for Superhero fucking Scott Pilgrim understood this as a fact of life jeez
13:55 He's the one who turncoated and gave up the protection for his family in the tower. It's not really Stark's fault she got hurt. There's no reason he couldn't just pay her bills with his infinite money though.
So I have a weird theory about this. JMS was definitely about to end his run on Spider-Man, and has stated in interviews that he disagreed with breaking up the marriage, but felt like it wasn’t his place to tell Quesada “No”. So you’ve got a writer who’s leaving, and he’s being forced to end his run with a story he doesn’t believe in. I think what happened is the frustration and disappointment affected his writing, and that’s why this story is so terrible. JMS is a great writer when he believes in his stories, but when he’s not happy with it it shows.
RE: Marvel releasing a bunch of new #1s Yeah, WHAT was the point of releasing a bunch of new #1s if they weren't WRITTEN like #1s? I was expecting Captain America #1 to be a retelling of him getting his super soldier serum and punching Hitler in the face, not Cap going into another dimension to fight I-can't-even-remember. :/
This is the best part of the video, that everyone needs to remember why 616 Spider-Man doesn't work as a full fledged character anymore unlike ps4 Spider-Man who grew up into a man by the end of the game.
I hope Marvel won't make One More Day into a movie. Actually... depending on how well Civil War goes... maybe they should. Who knows, they could pull a twist on it, like NOT make Peter into an irresponsible asshole. God... and I looked up to this prick!
Ironically, Spider-Man's been written more like an adult since OMD than ever before, at least in my opinion. I'd like to think this is because of Dan Slott's writing, since I like Slott's writing. He's had a lot more adult jobs ( like an actual scientist and a CEO of his own company), he seems to be using his genius for more good to society (like tech for regular people), trying to connect more with other people (joining more teams then he's ever been with and making more personal relationships, including trying to mentor younger heroes), and seems to be trying to take more responsibility for his actions.
i know (i hated superior from the get go, but Superior Spider-Man 30 ended up becoming one of my favorite comics). Also even if the ideas of Peter using his intelligence for the better in parker industries were goo. i still didin't like how peter parker was jus igored in secret empire, and sometimes almost depends on the horizon/parker industries crew when in some momments he doesn't. also the whole black cat thing. god thing he undid it in venom inc (still waiting fro black cat to go hunt doctor octopus considering he appeared as hydra's avengers, and she could easilly see that as ooto and thinking "well, i can leave parker alone i have an octopus to chop into pieces and turn itno takoyaki")
DC actually had a story similar to One More Day...almost a decade before OMD actually darkened our bookshelves. The difference being the couple wind up completely defeating the demon (Neron) with their relationship still intact.
Congratulations One More Day, you have turned all the smartest beings in the Marvel Universe into Dr Vindaloo this guy 41.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_luo1copBdI1qlehuwo1_500.jpg
+Funinightmare Actually as much as Dr Vindaloo *IS* a useless doctor, but I'd take him instead of this comic on ONE MORE DAY because if the smartest people were carrying the idiot ball or the Reed Richards is useless tropes, then the dumb or unlikable characters would be Overpowered!
Funinightmare Oh, most definitely, heck, Dr. Vindaloo is probably one my favorite idiots on all mediums of art along with some other characters. Heck, I'd say that if Courage never went to Dr. Vindaloo, Courage would never be able to save his owner Muriel (and Eustace but he's a douche) in a "for want of nail" tropes.
I think the only thing Spidey had to do to convince Dr Doom to heal aunt May is to say that Richards couldn't do it.
yeah. He only needed to say. i bet reed could do it. Doom: "Hold my beer". 1 minute to 1 day later. Done
DOOM'S ABILITY TO DRIVE STICK WILL ALLOW HIM TO HEAL BULLETS WOUNDS! BECAUSE I AM DOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
Exactly. Dr. Doom isn't a crazy psycopath like Carnage or Bullseye. He is an arrogant douchebag that uses heroism to advance his world domination plans. He could fit surgery on Aunt May on his to do list.
@@RenaldyCalixte And knowing he's got a potential troublemaker owing him a favor. May not ask for outright evil act but mostly really inconveniencing his enemies at least.
*Cue confused Reed Richards waking up at something thrown at his window and Doctor Doom making faces outside the window, somehow seeming more smughappy than usual*
*Peter:* "Dr. Strange I need you help..."
*Dr. Strange:* "I know why you are here. Take this and go"
*Peter:* "Money?"
*Strange:* "Cab fare. Go to Westchester. The X-Men have a healer called Elixir, he'll fix your aunt in no time."
*Peter:* "Thanks Doc! I was out of my mind, I have no idea what I would have done otherwise."
- One More Day: HISHE
i think this happened after decimation so... alternatively, they could have transferred her concius to a cloned body (that way they would have redeemed clones in spider-man's history)
Ian R. Nava Huber I’m pretty sure Elixir was one of the 200 who didn’t lose their power.
@@extralie-kfpfirstapostle9160 Indeed you are correct this is important since he messes with his own biology at times. Meaning without his powers he would probably die since who knows what he has done to himself over the years.
TV Tropes pointed out that Elixir probably could've even healed May over the phone,
"Dr Doom, I need your help-"
"DOOM HAS NO REASON TO GRANT BOONS ON HIS WRETCHED FOES!"
"Richards can't do-"
(1 second later May is stable and recovering)
"Boom. Done. DOOM CAN HEAL ALL WOUNDS! TELL RICHARDS DOOM KICKED HIS ASS"
The funny part is I could TOTALLY believe it. Doom would do that just to prove he was superior to Reed lol
😂😂😂
Since Linkara actually is currently married now, how much do you wanna bet that among his wedding vows was that he would never trade his marriage to Mephisto? :P
but what if fat granma was dying and that was the only option because literaly all the magic and science in the universe can't heal a bullet wound? he might do it then, he can't live without her delicious pancakes!
Gyarretto7 that would funny and sweet
Gyarretto7 probably more “the only thing we will do with mephisto is punch him square in the face and tell him to beat it”
There's no doubt in my mind, that he'd NEVER give it up! Besides, Linkara and Viga are a loving and sweet couple.
@@berpipo The powdered sugar she sprinkles on top is like cocaine to that whippersnapper!
Um...whaaaa...the Clone saga did something good. One More Day is beyond ridiculous.
That’s party of why I always say the clone saga was actually really good…it’s just the writers/editorial got cocky and decided to have Peter be the clone which ended up fucking the story in the long run
"...FIRST! SENTENCE!"
And this is why he reviewed One More Day. And what immediately made it worth it.
My brain screamed in rage as soon as I finished reading that sentence.
Because Black Panther was good and this comic is horrible.
I sort of wish Strange's monologue went like this:
"I do not doubt my ability to treat a bullet wound, but you of all people should know that your aunt is impossibly old. Any and all spells I could muster would just put her on borrowed time, and before you say the I word, those spells have way too many potential dangers. I doubt that even in this state you would accept your aunt being alive forever if it came at the cost of, say, you dying in return."
And then after Peter does that vision thing (where I would give them reasons other than "can't treat the most common wound in the Spider-Verse", be it the Wakandan tech can't make it in time, Hank and Richards being a-holes, Otto refusing on the grounds of people probably not wanting New York's most iconic criminal anywhere near a hospital (and hating Spidey), and Spidey having the foresight to think that maybe getting trapped in an even bigger cycle of misery at the hands of Doom is a boneheaded idea) he concludes: "Peter, Aunt May's death was going to happen bullet wound or not, the sooner you accept that, the better YOUR chances of recovery may be.
I find it funny that in their respective movies, we see BOTH Black Panther and Doctor Strange save people from bullet wounds.
This story is actually disregarding another storyline from JMS's run, at the end of which Loki himself (who obviously has the power to save Aunt May) states that he is in Spidey's debt, even giving him the means to contact him by.
i think JMS would have loved that, but they enforced him to do the mephisto
Besides, Loki vs Mephisto would have been awesome!
Oh Loki would have walked all over Mephisto just to say he could.
That FINALLY got dressed at the tail end of Dan Slott's run. No, it didn't undo the deal, but at least Slott bothered to tie up the loose end.
This is why I like PS4 Spider-man's story and Spider-verse. They doing what Marvel refuse to do with Peter Parker: allow him to grow up, take his responsibility and ensure the next generation.
Sure, it's suck that doesn't happen in the main comics but it's still a little something.
Except I hate how they’ve made, Mary Jane, and a lot of other characters in that verse
@@shockwavespider3942 What do you mean?
@@harryshum4139 I mean Mary Jane I’d like a reporter more like Kristen dunst and complains about being treated like a baby despite putting herself in danger instead of a model and sassy who is capable of taking care of herself. Norman isn’t as psychopathic and doc ock is a composite of curt connors.
Also, No Way Home allows Peter to sacrifice his own social life for the exchange of his friends' happiness.
Plus, the film has the balls to kill aunt May.
I blame the editors for not letting Peter grow up and taking responsibility.
I think their inspiration was Rise of Arsenal.
Marvel should've reboot their mainstream universe.
@@IanRomErv 😳...oh no not Rise of Arsenal. And don't mention Cry For Justice...or I will be triggered.
@@billymccrary2246 Personally I hate total reboots unless they come after a really really big story showing a true ending for the continuity we love. besides with Marvel openly being a Multiverse, a better idea would be an ultimate's style imprint that shows different continuities but 616 is still safe.
ruclips.net/video/5hWMMdPdegA/видео.html
Alexander Sigstad funny you should say that's what exactly going to happen sooner then you think because Parker industries is going to burn
18:00 well they can’t be hated for being immature. There are plenty of immature and pathetic adults in today’s world.
@@rawrdino7046 Yes. It was her.
@@jaysmith3173 Yeah but that's not who Peter is. Peter and been a mature adult for the last 7 years of the book. He had grown up from the immature teenager he started off as, and advanced in life. @@TheAzureNightmare As Linkara said in his review: "If the character acts like he's still in high school then why isn't he still there?"
Now imagine if Ben Reilly had been a YOUNGER clone of Peter instead of the same age. Peter grows up, Ben takes over. Ben grows up, Miles takes over. Then the entire spiderfamily shows up for big event stuff.
...Also given Doc Ock at one point had a thing for Aunt May, having HIM do the surgery to save her would've actually been a good plot point.
Hey by having Ben Reilly be a younger clone of Peter rather than being in the same age as him, possibly in either his late-teens or early-twenties, and Doctor Octopus would be the one who saved Aunt May rather than making a deal with Mephisto of all people.

Yep, Spider-Man: No Way Home is One More Day done right where Doctor Strange be the one who erased everyone of remembering Peter is Spider-Man, but cause everyone to erased of remembering Peter even existing, even Michelle Jones and MCU's Ned Leeds.
In What if Spider-Man's Clone lived? It is clarified he is 3-4 years younger biologically.
IDK your idea at least much better set up and feels like someone with a brain wrote it.
Oh man i think i remember that encyclopedia.
just going off of that book it makes for a much better story than this god awful story.
One More Day makes Civil War look like an award winning comic in comparison.

A cyborg Aunt May might make a great spin off series.
metanight788
agreed
the first issue would begin with the shocker trying to kidnap her (for the umpteenth time)
only for her to cover herself in metal armor and then proceed's to pummel the shocker into a yellow paste
metanight788 Not like Spidey doesn't have access to the tech, since he has *Silvermane's secret underground lab*.
She is a robert, she is an Aunt.
metanight788 cyborg aunt M and dr. doom servant Spider-Man. They hit the reset button on Spider-Man instead of doing that. Lame
Well, she was once Silver Surfer, so being cyborg would be pretty tame compared to that.
How O.M.D. should have ended: Peter rejects the offer, says his goodbye to Aunt May, and she dies...until she gets brought back to life, like, a year later because comic books.
They didn't reverse time or reboot because Quesada has spent years bashing DC for doing that.
sorry but say what you want about New 52 and the non necessity of it but in my opinion if nothing else.
Flashpoint>One More Day
Flashpoint might be better (especially the movie), but in the whole scheme of things is worse? why? because one more day only screwed 616 peter.
One More Day. The bad fanfiction disguised as an official comic storyline.
Considering the asshole who was so desperate to get rid of the marriage (and Joe if your one day reading this GOOD!) I wouldn't be surprised.
Fanfictions are better than this.
+Cybermat47 DAMN RIGHT!

But that would require him to get a divorce, which these dummies treated like how one should treat a plague.
Considering that Doc Ock likes Aunt May, he’d probably be willing to help even if he does hate Spider-Man. He knows Peter’s her nephew and helping him would get in her good books.
Absolutely, and in some stories Otto encouraged Peter’s scientific interest as a young boy.
@@idongesitusen5764 Like the 1994 animated series where Peter while at science camp met Otto who was there as a guest.
So a video game and a movie featuring all 3 movie actors can do this one more day story better and have Peter grow up but the comic writers refuse to let him grow up and act like an adult
To an extent, No Way Home did do it better but still features the same problem of refusing to let the character change the status quo. Heck, it even ends with him broke in Tobey Maguire's apartment with a symbiote on the way 🙄
Watching Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, I love how Peter B. Parker got married...and then DIVORCED.

@@anansajohnson9139 yup indeed
The whole One More Day thing was really down to Joe Quesada and his really weird and archaic ideas and opinions about relationships and marriage.
I would LOVE Spider-Verse 2 if the plot was literally Mephisto stealing the marriages of different Spider-Men and Miles, Gwen, Miguel, 90's TAS Spidey, Spectacular Spider-Man Spidey and Supaidaman have to go around and undo Mephisto's crazy rampage
It's the best I could come up with in a quick short time but someone can add on to it
It was bascily them giving a middle finger to one more day
It's quite crazy how no way home is kind of an adaptation to this story but drastically improved, like how the civil war movie was so much better than the comic series.
"That's not a review, that's me ranting about a plot point."
The fact that you know the difference is what's kept me watching for 400+ episodes.
Spiderverse must have been a breath of fresh air.
The whole he makes the same mistakes over and over is addressed in across the spider verse and they change it to make the right choices
***** I dunno. I know Linkara gave Quesada some positive points in one of his review.
***** It was something positive. I don't remember what but still.
laz kar
1) Calm Down.
Hands down, one of Linkara's best reviews.
Ayanda Nxumalo nah I like his review of Holy Terror better. I mean it made me look at super heros and terrorism in a whole new way.
Aunt May as a cyborg...OMG I can totally see that. "Return of the Golden Oldie"
There are several simple options:
- There wasn't time to reach anyone or they were unavailable, as Linkara pointed out.
VideoGuyIdiot22
Fine with me, a healthy debate is what I enjoy doing. No hard feelings though alright? :)
Dr strange: making a deal with Dormmamu is Childs Play.
bullet wounds now that's impossible. Truly the doc is strange... or just dumb.
Having recently lost my granddad, the one grandparent i was closest to since my nan passed away when i was younger, rewatching this review is really hard (although I still adore it). The comic comes off as really callous about how people deal with the death of loved ones, particularly when they are slowly dying on a hospital bed and you know that any day you're going to turn up and they're not going to be there anymore
I would give a lot for another day to say my farewells to my granddad, to tell him everything that I wasn't able to get around to in life, but I know at the same time that my Granddad wouldn't want me to sacrifice my own happiness with someone else for his life.
Mr.Stark was like a father to him...I wonder if hes not feeling so good
I just love your bit about how not many people would object to Tony helping Aunt May. It's just that delivery on "Let her diiieeee" that cracks me up every time. XD
If the story beats for this part HAD to be that Peter goes to see Tony, demanding that he helps Aunt May, resulting in Jarvis visiting the hospital with the "bottomless checkbook", then the circumstances become so dire that a deal with the Devil somehow becomes more likely, I would've done it this way:
Like you suggested, Peter agrees to turn himself in in exchange for Aunt May's treatment, Jarvis is sent off to the hospital and May starts to be seen to, on the way to being turned in, a villain attacks, somehow the attack affects the city's power grid at a crucial moment during the procedure at the hospital, once the villain is down Peter immediately goes to the hospital to find that Aunt May died, and the city's in chaos during the blackout thanks to looters, other criminals running amok and people panicking, Peter is severely strained both physically and emotionally as a result of this on top of everything else, then he sees the little girl walk into a dark alleyway and runs after her to make sure she doesn't get hurt.
Spencer McClure
I like that, and it's good of you to think of a better explanation for the "can't heal bullet wounds" shlock, as you probably know I personally decided to skip that altogether, and yeah in an ideal world I would've done the same sort of thing as you regarding the actual deal.
Spencer McClure someone needs to make that a comic.
Here it is 8 years later, and it still hasn't been undone!
I mean… this comic DOES feature a terrifyingly accurate depiction of the American health care system
Also, Linkara, please review Spider-Man: The Other
THE COSMIC CUBE CAN DO ANYTHING!
Can it fix a bullet wound?
THE COSMIC CUBE CAN DO ALMOST ANYTHING!
Are we not gonna talk about Peter getting advice from what appears to be BATMAN sitting in the Mobius Chair at 25:51
The montage in the opening credits is amazing. Lewis was so baby when he had just began the show, and he has gone such a lomg way since.
If you want a good example of a version of Spider-Man that does grow up, I'm referring to Peter B. Parker from into the spider verse! Honestly, I'm shocked that not one show or film has done this ever!

That "FIRST.... SENTENCE!" is still one of my funniest AT4W moments, hahaha
13:45 - We had to wait until MCU Civil War and Homecoming for that to become truth.
You know, it's saying something when the creators of Spyro can make a better Spider-Man story.
And one where he's in the same situation but does the right thing no less!
Let's just say thank god for the movie Civil War.
+Scott Baldwin I hope they are not gonna do the adaption of *THIS*.
Considering how the movie ends... it would make no sense, or either be a lot better.
"Hey Spidey, wanna make a deal?"
"No, fuck off."

It was ok.
Wasn't all that good though.
The Same way Linkara feels about One More Day is the same way I feel about the series finale of Two and a Half Men.
At the very least “Punk is nothing but death and crime and the RAGE of a BEAST” is actually funny
JMS's early run on Spider-man with Ezekiel and Morlun had Peter acting like an adult it is one of my favorite spidey stories
Yep. To keep his heroics alive, have the Parkers move to a new state ( preferably Texas or California).
Well, you had a good point.
I mean personally I’d rather have him be a responsible adult, but yeah if your going to write him acting like a teenager that have him be a teenager.
looking at this a year later and I feel like the ghost of one more day seeped into no way home with how he messed with Strange's spell
Wait, didn't Doc Ock take more measures to balance out his life as "Peter Parker" and Spider-Man during the Superior Spider-Man run?
he did. it still blew up in his face. and in the process made all potential love interests of peter (carlie cooper, MJ, black cat), to get the heel away from him.
15:46 “Peter Parker is one of the most irresponsible superheroes ever.”
Considering all the points Linkara proceeds to make for this, and contrasting that with Superman’s actions in *his* comics, plus the “world of cardboard” speech…
Shouldn’t “With great power comes great responsibility” be *Superman’s* motto?
YES.
And if Doom had helped for a future favor that would be..... what's the idiom? Ah, yes. "A deal with the devil". And a much more interesting one.
“Good story but a detestable status quo” is a really good way of summing up Superior. It really works much better as a temporary arc after the fact
Oh my god you’re right they should’ve just funneled all their nostalgic oldschool style stories into that book
JMS is a great writer when he believes in his stories, but when he’s not happy with it it shows.
ruclips.net/video/5hWMMdPdegA/видео.html
You know it's sad when I or any of us could probably write a better version of one more day than Joe Quesada did.
RE: Marvel releasing a bunch of new #1s
Yeah, WHAT was the point of releasing a bunch of new #1s if they weren't WRITTEN like #1s? I was expecting Captain America #1 to be a retelling of him getting his super soldier serum and punching Hitler in the face, not Cap going into another dimension to fight I-can't-even-remember. :/
Linkara and you are awesome Mr Bobsheaux!
This is the best part of the video, that everyone needs to remember why 616 Spider-Man doesn't work as a full fledged character anymore unlike ps4 Spider-Man who grew up into a man by the end of the game.
15:36
I hope Marvel won't make One More Day into a movie. Actually... depending on how well Civil War goes... maybe they should. Who knows, they could pull a twist on it, like NOT make Peter into an irresponsible asshole. God... and I looked up to this prick!
Unfortunately marvel looks like their gonna do that
@@Batmanbeyyond well atleast it seems like peter wont be making a deal with the devil
They kind of did make an adaptation with no way home and it was kind of pretty good.
Just say mafisto used his magic on the bullet, at least it would make sense why no one can help heal a Damn bullet wound
Thank god slott actually tried to continue JMS themes despite OMD
Slott has his own problems though, especially with Superior.
i know (i hated superior from the get go, but Superior Spider-Man 30 ended up becoming one of my favorite comics).
So the whole reason Spidey made a deal with the devil was because of Iron-Man? Wow, and I thought the MCU version of him creating villains was bad. :P
DC actually had a story similar to One More Day...almost a decade before OMD actually darkened our bookshelves. The difference being the couple wind up completely defeating the demon (Neron) with their relationship still intact.
Kind of wished Spider-Man would have smacked Mephisto in the face, then asked Loki for help.
The Spider Man video game would later be one gigantic middle finger towards One More Day.
Congratulations One More Day, you have turned all the smartest beings in the Marvel Universe into Dr Vindaloo
this guy 41.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_luo1copBdI1qlehuwo1_500.jpg
+Funinightmare Actually as much as Dr Vindaloo *IS* a useless doctor, but I'd take him instead of this comic on ONE MORE DAY because if the smartest people were carrying the idiot ball or the Reed Richards is useless tropes, then the dumb or unlikable characters would be Overpowered!
Tony Davis Well I'm glad that I could remind those who read this bad comic that they could be watching a good cartoon show instead.
Doctor Strange fought off the Green Goblin during his crusade to make the McRib a permanent menu item?
