  • People thought the two crossover films were why Volume 9 suffered, but that isn't true. We might never know the exact cause for Volume 9's misfortune.

    It IS possible some of us old folk are remembering the GenLock situation where that show stole some of volume 5s budget if I recall. But yeah, that was different. BOTH those shows would have been funded from the same place unlike the JL movies.

      I'm glad you think so! There were tons more crew members speaking out about this stuff, but they also spoke in response to the drama or other people talking about this in bad faith/not believing the crew about what they were saying. So I chose not to include those perspectives since the ones I _did_ share already had the important stuff covered.

      @@robinrising_ It's easy to make assumptions. The fact RWBY is still funded in house is shocking enough.
      That unfortunately does not give much hope for volume 10 unless RT can find backing from another source.
      I'm actually mildly confused by the exclusively deal with Crunchyroll as I assumed it meant they were providing funding in exchange for having this one year contract.
      Kerry has expressed some clear hope they might be willing to fund volume 10. So I wonder what the deal is there.

    • @robinrising_
      @robinrising_  11 месяцев назад +3

      @@johnsmith5922 Yeah I assume Crunchyroll helped them fund V9, but I believe V9 was originally funded internally back when it was originally greenlit alongside Volumes 7 and 8. That's what Kerry's likely referring to.

    This reminds me of Mortal Kombat vs DC universe back in 2008. That was also a crossover nobody asked for especially back when DC is not as open to see your favorite heroes in R rated content.

    The most the movies could have possibly affected V9 in any way, is how long it took to complete, because the same crew was working on three different projects at once. And also, that is basically confirmed by Kerry, as he stated the movies gave their crew more time to continue working. They could have technically done one project at a time and it would probably result in largely the same time frame from the start of V9's production to the release of the second JL film, but still. More projects, means more time to work. And since they ALL came out this year, it means they were working on all of them at once, extending how long production lasted on each project.
    And keep in mind, I said "basically". This is still 100% speculation until it's confirmed.

    • @robinrising_
      @robinrising_  11 месяцев назад +1

      I'm not 100 percent sure you're saying this, but just in case you are, it's something I want to clarify for others who might read this:
      It did extend how long production lasted on each project, but the overall time spent on each project is the same as it would have been otherwise. It's just that the same amount of production time was stretched over longer period of the calendar. In short, it didn't make anything cost more to work on multiple projects, so the budgets weren't affected negatively.

    We live in a timeline where my cult-classic niche video game franchise (NieR) got a megahit sequel out of nowhere (NieR:Automata), and where more than a few shows I'd written off as being lost to the 70's in licensing hell got actual physical releases. I'll keep trucking along til the day where I get to be pleasantly surprised that Vol 10 has finally been greenlit. (Though if I had to make a guess, I'd wager that Vol 9 just had a bigger budget as a pre-covid project that got slashed when the pandemic hit and folks got laid off en masse just in general everywhere, and this was some kind of cost-saving measure.)
    Great work as always, Robin!

    The issue is that they aren't telling the audience what caused the budget cuts (either COVID-19, incompetence, working at home or etc) and thus we just assumed that movies were the cause of it. The problem being is that the movies were made alongside volume 9 or so since they don't specify what caused the budget cuts thus we point at the movies. Sure they have stated that the movies did not cause it but the issue is what did then or are they just lying (due to their reputation). So honestly it not a good situation for them.
