- With the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Normandy Landings around the corner, I thought it would be good to share some of the spots I've visited along the beaches and share some history too. This route takes us from West from Cherbourg all the way East to the Merville Battery, with plenty of stops along the way! If you're planning a motorcycle tour or otherwise to Normandy, hopefully this video serves as an inspiration and a guide of some of the different sites awaiting you.
It should also be noted that this wasn't all one day! I'd say take two or three sites a day to give yourself enough time to enjoy it, and stop for much needed water breaks. The roads I took on my Royal Enfield Daisy Bell were generally around 70kph/45mph, which is perfect Bullet speed 👌. And as I say in the video, there's much more out there to see, consider this a jumping off point! Can't exactly show you everything in the museums or surrounds, so get out there and explore, and let me know how you get on!
If this video hasn't satiated your appetite, check out this playlist I made of each video where I visited sites relating to Operation Overlord:

Best opening *EVER*, followed by an outstandingly well put together video.
Interesting, enjoyable, informative and the Bullets blatting away between stops was the icing on the cake. Bravo 👏🏼 better than anything on telly.
Lest we forget
I was going to comment exactly the same! Lovely stuff.
Cheers! And thanks for sharing the video too Saddlebags, appreciate it! 😁 Hope your ride through Ireland is going well!
@@BulletWanderer very welcome. Another wonderful trip over in Ireland thank you, even though we didn’t experience the unbelievable weather we had last year.
Smashing good fun, mate, and good seeing your Pops again. Oddball carried me swiftly to and fro my workplace today in the early summer heat with style and a hearty thump, but longing to put European soil under his tires. To all who gave their all in defense of liberty, may they rest at peace eternally.
Cheers Brian! Nice to hear Oddball is getting out and about, have you fitted on those new tyres yet? How are they going?
@@BulletWanderer The new tires are MUCH better, very secure feeling and grippy! I'm a fan of Shinko tires...both bikes have them now. I believe they were formerly made by Yokohama.
A very fitting piece of work there. I think you struck a good balance. D day was only 18 years before I was born so I’m delighted that you younger generations are embracing the history. It’s so so important. That you did it in an entertaining way was so engaging.
Thank you for showing that…
We DO remember them
Cheers Graham! I was born just shy of the 50th anniversary, but grew up on Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. When you're younger it seems like a great adventure but the older I've gotten the more the cost of war and sacrifice of life comes to mind. Worth remembering, particularly these days.
@@BulletWanderer rubbing it in there Brendan😂😂😂😂 only joking!!! You are spot on. As a kid I was all about the films and the adventures. Once I matured a bit I understood too.
Loves this!!! A dday commemorations vidio!! Amazing and so appropriate! Fantastic!!❤
Glad you liked it! 😁
Thank you for producing this! As a fellow Bullet Rider (2018 C5) I felt like I was right alongside for the ride. Great history lesson, and I hope to make it across the pond someday to experience the areas you shared in person.
Cheers Keith! Glad it gave you the feeling of being along for the ride with me, kinda hope that carries through for most of my videos 😄
Great video Brendan and indeed the whole point of the Dday celebration is to remember the incredible bravery of the allied forces a vast number of whom gave their lives in this crucial campaign.
Great video! It’s my view to France and D-day . I have a Pegasus model of classic 500 and love it ! I will probably never ride it over in your part of the world , but get to see things through your perspective and camera lens! Thanks again !
Cheers Michael! I believe the Pegasus model of the Classic 500 is named after Pegasus bridge, so it's over here in spirit 😁
Awesome video Brendan 👏
Great inspiration for perhaps taking my son via the slow roads on the back of my Classic 500 and visiting some of the Normandy WW2 landmarks, nicely done. And presented with a respectful approach to those who fought and those who lost their lives.
Cheers Tim, glad to hear it! Hoped it might be a good jumping off point for planning where to go taking the slow roads 😁
This is episode is fantastic! Thanks for doing it!
"1940'sly" is my new favorite term!
Cheers Rich! Hopefully "1940'sly" will catch on 😂
Amazing ride along and history lesson! I've been waiting for another video from you and this surpassed any expectations. Well done!
Cheers Wally! Weather permitting, hoping to get out and film a video back exploring some mountains in Ireland tomorrow 🤞
Great video Brendan, thank you for sharing this as it was very well done.. great recap of a part of WW2 history where so many sacrifices were made .. LEST WE FORGET. ..Cheers Phil 🇦🇺
Cheers Phil, glad you enjoyed it! Lest we forget.
Great video Brendan, very interesting and enjoyable. Thankyou..
Cheers Les, appreciate it!
Brilliant as ever. Thanks for posting. I really enjoyed the opening scenes. For the first minute was just birds tweeting and the sound of an Enfield! Beautiful sounds.....
Cheers Neil! Glad you enjoyed it. 👍
A great video. As an owner of a RE 500 I appreciate the beautiful noise it makes. The tour on the RE would be perfect.
Nothing I like more than touring on the RE 500! A great way to see the world 😁
Parked up in the same spot as you on our classic British bikes this year D-day plus 10 at Longues sur mer battery and I placed a Daisy in one of the gun barrels which is Belgium's Poppy.
Very interesting and well put together. I took a trip around most of the same places in about 2008 it was an eye opening experience for me as I had not gone specifically with a ww2 agenda in mind, but became absorbed and fascinated with it all including the very thought provoking cemeteries. Now living in Australia it was great to revisit the places in the company of such great motorcycles. I have 9 RE motorcycles in my collection they are the icing on the cake for me. Great work. Like Saddlebags says better than The Television.... and how. Good on Ya Mate as they say round here.
Cheers Lester, hope I passed by familiar places that sparked memories! 😁
Thanks Brenden great vlog ...inspirational...
I saw duty in Germany late 70's....got three different generations of people who experienced Germany from the 30's though the post war years and Germans born in the late 50's ..early 60's .... the scars on the land and people still lingered. Last year we visited Vienna, Warsaw, Budapest... other cities... Auschwitz Birkenau and they're still rebuilding ... In September we have a 15 day " Band of Brothers " tour... Beaches to Berlin.... I would love to do the D Day events with my 1942 Wla. Read they have nearly 200 registered... add the M-20's, a few Norton's, French machines and of course the German Zundaps and BMW;s,,, and perhaps a Russian machine. D Day here.... perhaps a mention on the evening news.... Sadly, today's youth don't even know who the combatants were.. Thanks for bringing history alive.... 😎
Would love to see that WLA. What a cool bike
Your '42 WLA would certainly be a star of the show, and i'm sure you'd have quite the stories to share! Maybe at the 81st anniversary if logistics allow. Hope you enjoy your tour in September, sounds fantastic!
,Thanks for the great video, enfield seems to be an ideal bike for the touring there,i was there with a few other bikers on the 75 anniversary, great trip, sad reminder of an awful time.
Very nice video, thank you for sharing, regards😊
That was a good one. Nice history stuff also.
legendary bike and legendary video. seen a bullet 500 on a greek island recently. can only imagine what it must feel like cruising around there on a bike like this.
Cheers for the comment! Would love to ride the Bullet around Greek islands!
Great video. Got a list of places to visit for our trip over in a few days time. Cheers Brendan
Cheers Tim! Safe travels, and have a wonderful trip! 🏍
Great video, thanks! I've toured all over Europe on my Kawasaki W650, normally use the ferry to Cherbourg, and always take a day or two around Normandy. The sites you visited are all very familiar, and it's great to see someone else trundling along the same roads. I normally stay in a small hotel/motel in Arrowmanche, which used to be called the Mountbatten, but Google maps tells me it's now the L'Deal. Happy travels!
Cheers Lagan, seen plenty of Kawasaki W650s and W800s on my travels, very charming machine (regretably I've only had a quick ride on Naim's W650 seen at the end of this video, would love to have a day in the saddle on one!) Arromanches is one of my favourite spots, sadly haven't stayed there overnight yet, but must try out L'Deal next time I'm in Normandy!
@@BulletWanderer there used to be a great bar in Arrowmanche, owned by a Belgian guy (I was last there a few years ago, not sure if it’s still on the go) but they had GREAT Belgian beer, and lock-ins after hours, they came around at closing time and asked if you were leaving, or if you wanted an ash tray for the lock in! ;-)
Wonderful video!!!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you Brendan a very good and interesting video, great respect for those who made such sacrifice for freedom.
Cheers Janner! Tried my best to anyway 😄
Another great video Brendan. Your laid back Irish brogue makes it a relaxing thing to watch. I've been on the D Day trail for a few years now and recall many of the sites of interest you visited. There is so much to explore.
Have you been to the Bocage and Falaise?
Cheers Aubrey! I haven't been to Bocage, but I was in Falaise in Summer 2022! ruclips.net/video/2XhoUmwxxl8/видео.html Had a look in the Chateau there, impressive stuff! Perhaps Bocage next time
The best into in the history of youtube ever XDXD
You're too kind Ferdia, cheers! 😆 Hope your travels are going well!
Well worth the re-cap on your travels.
Cheers, hope it was enjoyable!
In 2020 i got myself a 500 2nd hand , it was one of 250 camo specials RE made . the 1st owner had only used it for D-Day trips ! (mind you when he was over there one trip he had to have the crankcase sensor replaced ) i was even let into a local military event via the exhibitors entrance because they thought it was the real thing , the line for the normal car park was really long , so i couldn't refuse , could i ?? Sad to say i sold it on in 2022
Sounds like you (and the previous owner!) had some fond memories with the bike, sad to part with it, but I'm sure its still turning heads and sneaking into events 😄
Very interesting ride, where did to stay overnight ?
Thanks Alan! I stayed in Sainte-Mere-Eglise one night, but mainly on these trips I was based in Caen or in Bayeux. Highly recommend either of them they're as a good starting point every day, and there's many restaurants and pubs for the evenings!
Nice doco man
Cheers!🙏
Paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne landed as far as St Sauveur (my fam collected them on 6/6/44)
Fascinating stuff! I haven't travelled around that part of the Cotentin peninsula yet; hopefully someday!
Never forget 🙏
Brandon is going to send himself to mariupol to recover terrain on his enfield 500 - LOL.
Don’t slap the end of the magazine it will dislodge the top round , otherwise great vid lol
Have to give the fellow Sten stenthusiasts something to notice 😉 Cheers!
BEACHES? All I want to do is race steam trains Brendan
You and me both, but there’s more beaches than steam trains currently traceable 😂
