If I get marooned on a bike I want it to be with an Irishman because he'll raise the mood and laugh it all off. Great video Brendan and fair play to Keith. Top bloke 🙂
Cheers Richard! Couldn’t agree more 😁
A bad day turned great. Happy trails followed by a great ending 👍🍻😏🍻👍
Do you get that much rust on your bullet from the rain? I have a classic 500 in the same color as yours and don't take it in rain but I'm gonna buy my brothers black 500 to use in the rain since I don't want my main one to get rusty.
Yay or nay on the poem ? 😅 camera died shortly after Keith left with the wheel so had to come up with some way of telling the story !
Loved it and the drawings! Oh I felt for you when you had the flat and fixing it on the side of the road! I changed Hans' tyres a little while ago in the garage and it sire was a bit of a faff and grunting! And that under cover. Glad you got Daisy rolling smoothly again a nice old story out of the try too 😁👍
@@Frenkentime the tyre change has to be my least favourite job on the Bullet 😅 thank God it’s only once or twice a year , what tyres have you on Hans ?
Changing a tyre on the side of the road in the rain … 🌧️ lovely … 🏍️😎✌️
P.S. My Bullet uses Avon tyres. 🛞
P.P.S. Very nice poem & diagrams!!!!
@@BulletWanderer Hopefully not on the side of the road again 🤞. I've just put on some Avon Roadrider Mk 2.
loved it, and the cartoons, reminds me of the old 'Used Bike Guide' and 'Used Motorcycle Guide' I used to read as a lad in the early 90s . I really miss that sort of story telling. I think you may have a bit of a niche there matey, it'd be worth looking in to? :-)
Well done to Keith for helping out 👍
A sound gentleman! 👍
Great vid :) I recently bought a CB1100, my first bike with spoked wheels. Not going to lie, a puncture out in the middle of nowhere is slightly anxiety inducing. A rubber plug on a tubeless is far less hassle.
@@MentatOfDune cheers Wayne ! Congratulations on the CB1100, what a gorgeous bike! You’re telling me though , the whole way home after getting repaired I was still anxious 😂
Should cost nothing to be nice ! But he still took it. I am crying 😂😂😂
How the hell can you pinch it five times think he was a bit to rough with it
I just thought four times wasn’t enough , so one more pinch for good luck! 🛞 🤏
I've had the same experience recently... a 10 centimetres nail in the rear tire while my girlfriend and I were riding back home. Unfortunately, I could not repair the flat tyre on the road and had to call the assistance; thank god the dealer had a spare tube to replace the punctured one. A few hours later we were back on the road. Another issue was that the nail ripped the cables for the rear light and rear indicators, which also caused all lights to stop working (except front indicators). The cables were repaired the next day with a friend, and rearrange thus this issue would not happen again (I hope, because riding without a brake light is rather stressful...). Now everything is working fine!
What have I learnt from this? Buy some replacement tubes, just in case
Ride safe!😄
I've totally ruled out any more tubed tyre motorcycles for exactly that reason. Good to get a reminder as well, in case I get tempted again LOL.
I’d say it’s a temptation that will always be there 😆 if I could just get tyres like the GS has where they’re spoked but tubeless for the Bullet, I’d be set!
I have had many tubed tyre motorcycles and havent had a puncture for over 30 years, so I would never consider getting a bike I dont want, just because it might get a puncture one day.
I inflate my bullet tires with a regular foot-pump which i use for my bicycle, too. Small and handy and never let me down.
The most visited place in Ireland ... up the road 😂 Fair play to your man for stopping and doing most of the work, I mean lending a hand😂
😂
Great video. Those back wheels are a pain. I've pinched the odd tube too. Keep up the good work.
Nice guy to help you Brendan 👍🏽! Good to see you back out there👍🏼✊🏼!!
I'm of the opinion that you should always fit new tyres yourself. Basically, the side of the road is NOT the place to learn how to do it. So why don't I? Coz it's too damned intimidating and yes, I have picked up a nail in my rear tyre. The hardest part of the job is actually getting the rear wheel out of the frame, RE have done us not favours there.
Brilliant watch Brendan, I thought things like those only happened to me
That was nice of the fella to stop and help but I didn't understand a word he said😂😂
On my way 350 cast iron I take the seat and subframe of just roll out wheel
Sounds a bit more practical !
On my East German MZ 150 I could unbolt and remove the back half of the rear wheel's mudguard to roll the wheel out. Only good thing about communism was the practical features on their cars and motorcycles
What's up with it's exhaust note, no thump sound at all?
I loved the tyre mech's comment - you didn't pinch the tube, you pinched it five times. 🤣
I was getting worried great to see you back on here, hope you had a great holiday Well done on pushing through with the wheel repair..a stressful situation diffused by a helpful stranger. Happydays
Cheers! 😁
U poor auld fecker . Glad ye got sorted in end.
All about the adventure ay pal! Haha.
Well I was only just checking your channel yesterday to make sure I hadn't missed an upload! Glad to see you back with a foreshadowing bong 😜
Cheers Ferdia! Had a bit of a break from RUclips so got plenty to catch up on myself 😁
Wow, what a story to be told. I think you illustrating skill are next level, so good. The poem was excellent.
Kind of like watching Tin Tin only better 👍
Appreciate it, Phil! I was going for a TinTin style so delighted to hear it 😁
There's some wonderful people in Ireland, great to get so much help. A GSXR1100 in 1987 was my first bike with tubeless tyres. The best thing to ever be put on a motorcycle and one reason I chose a Speed Twin 1200 over a Bonneville T120 today.
But seriusly if you Dont know how to change a innertube or tyre then you shouldnt be riding buddy. It was the first thing i taught my misses to do. when she got her own bike
@@chrislewis4830 sure I launched right into changing it, didn’t I? 😂 having a second person certainly sped up the process
Great videos thank you. Where did you get your (large) panniers?
They’re the OEM Panniers for Royal Enfield Classic 500s! Required a bit of bracketing to get the frame to match to the Bullet 500 but not too much , they’re similar enough bikes 👍
i love the way he automatically started running is fingers inside the tire to make shure that there isnt a thorn or nail pokeing through to prevent the new innertube being punctured. Hes been there many times before like me lol
@@chrislewis4830 that’s experience for ya !
Sliced my finger open on a shard of glass doing that. Go easy.
@@borderlands6606 yeah and me not glass though a rusty screw
ya man Keith
This is the reason I always carry an aerosol of that puncture repair stuff to get me home, Tyre fitters hate it but it's ok in tubed tyres. Saves a lot of roadside hastle!!!
Didn't know it works for tubed tyres! Might need to add it to the pack 🤔 Grand for a limp back home?
I used tyre weld on a car once and it was still working fine when I finally scrapped the car 5 years later!
So, yes. Tyreweld will def get you home!
Glad you were able to get it fixed. Very nice of that guy to stop and help. I have had three flats on my 2013 Bullet since I bought it new, in approximately 23,000 miles. All three times it came home on a tow truck. I am now 65, but have been disabled to the point where I would be unable to fix a flat tube type tire beside the road for over 15 years. I won't ride more than 75-80 miles from home on a bike with tube type tires. I have a roadside assistance plan that includes 100 miles of towing. I replaced the tires on my Bullet by myself the first time. I did it at home, where I had all the tools and a thick sofa cushion to put my knees on. It still took me almost a week to complete the job, and it was quite painful. Since then I've just been removing the wheels (quite a job in itself) and taking them to a shop to have the tires replaced. I don't even carry parts and tools to fix a flat on bikes with tube type tires. Hitchcocks has some cast wheels that supposedly can be used with tubeless tires that will fit the Bullet 500 through 2016 (drum rear brake) I've been seriously considering them. They kind of ruin the looks of the bike, but they would make it rideable for longer distances. I'm not riding right now. I'm in Arizona, U.S., and it is 115 degrees F (46 degrees C) Too hot for me.
On my Bullet, the rear wheel is over an inch off the floor in my garage when it is on the centerstand. But I have a smaller, lighter aftermarket exhaust, and no racks or panniers on it. I carry everything in a 14L magnetic tank bag.
Well Sir consider alloy wheels and tubeless tyres, looks be damned
Probably would be smart to get the cast wheels (for both of us!), had a look at them there, its a shame they do ruin the looks of the bike a bit. Even if they were just in a brighter tone it might blend in better with the Bullet 😅 For now, we can dream! That certainly does sound beyond riding weather to me, hottest I've ever ridden in was 40 Degrees C and that was really pushing me to the limit, plenty of water needed!
Is this making you consider tubeless tyres at all?
A bit if i'm honest, one less thing to go wrong 😅 A shame the ones sold on Hitchcocks wouldn't really match Daisy's style, but then again there's probably not many that really would!
@BulletWanderer agree..I'm searching...there are some alloy rims that have a spoke like look, I've been trying to find.. but hard..one such is model KS4B if you can find it..I'm looking at biting the bullet ;) and changing also
What a top bloke to stop and know what he's doing. Great video too😊👍
and punctured the new tube at the same time!
It's the thought that counts 😂
Good story and Keith your guardian angel proves they don't all have wings unless on Red Bull.😎😎
Cheers Janner 😂 Was nearly gonna call you that evening to see had you the number for Sprocket & Hubs and could you put in a nice word for me 😂
Fair play to Keith, a gentleman. Myself and the wife went to Luc Sur Mere for the hols, June 5th on the Himalayans and got the feared puncture pulling into an unmanned garage en route. Tyre off, tube fecked, new one fitted and we were back on the road. New tubes bought in Caen. Battle hardened now and not as fearful of the next one.
Glad you came prepped for it ! Would’ve been awful if you hadn’t the spare tube 😟
G’day, mate epic day, loved it ..great story, glad your back & alls well with you… been out & about on my 500 as well, happy days ..cheers Phil 🇦🇺
Cheers Phil! It’s good to get out and about on em 😁
I feel your pain, I've had 3 punctures in two weeks. I couldn't believe it, this is too soon to be watching this lol fair play to your man stopping to help
Three!? What rotten luck, any idea how it happened so often? 😳
What a guy…bless him
Glad you are alright Brendan after such long videoless period. You had such an experience from that puncture but somehow you manage to stay positive though that. We all know by now that you are not mechanically inclined person and it's alright, not everyone needs to be.
@@Stefan_trekkie Cheers Stefan! Gotta keep the faith that things will work out (they usually always do in the end 😄)
Lash us a poem... 😊
Glad you are back. It is great there are still a lot of nice people in the world!
Cheers Wally! Yes, restored a bit of my faith in humanity 😁
"Daisy , Daisy , don't give me flats today"
Brilliant 😂
Oh the adventures you get yourself into, mate! A flat on the back tire of Oddball is a no-go for roadside fix. Too much going on with that rear caliper bracket for the disc brake. So, it'll be my pump (powered off the bike's trickle charger plug) and slime goo. Limp it home and fix it there. Roadside flat fixes on these bikes can be rather dodgy to accomplish. Good on the lad who helped you out! Good to see you back!
Slime goo! I should consider getting some of that 🤣🤣 Is it dependable to limp home with?? How much PSI can you get with it ? How big of a job is it? (Aware its a temp fix, but good to know so I could limp home next time!) Sorry for all the questions 😂
@@BulletWanderer You just need your 12V pump (battery powered like the one you have) or one powered from the bike's battery, a bottle of slime with the hose it comes with and a valve stem core removal tool. Find the offending nail/screw and remove it. Remove valve stem core. Squirt in the goo. Replace core. Attach pump and pump it up. Ride home. Perform final repair (replace tube) whilst there and after pints. My Slime brand 12V pump (I keep one on Oddball and Fritz) will pump to about 42 psi.
Great to hear from you, :)
oh what fun :) back in the 20's and 30s they had hinged rear mudguards to make getting the wheel out easier, but now we have " progress" :) W B Yeates, Seamus Heaney and Joyce have left their mark on you :) You're a poet and you didn't know it :)
Warro the Aussie chap, worked out that it was possible to pivot the entire rear mudguard of the new 350s, upward. Makes getting the wheel out a realistic possibility. Dunno if the same would work on the 500.
Cheers ! I suppose back in 20s and 30s it might’ve been a much more regular issue requiring much more access 😅 at the same time, dunno why they’ve phased it out !
Being a know all, I winced when I saw you using screwdrivers (?) as tyre levers. Good on the fella for stopping to help. Some will argue, but repairing punctures with these old tubed tyres on the road is difficult to impossible on your own.
Oh they are proper tyre levers don’t worry! Just we were a bit forceful with em unfortunately 😂
@@BulletWanderer Then I take it all back. Even with care in a garage, you can never be sure they'll stay up until you put some air in.
Yay on poem - it was brilliant.
Cheers Dave! 😁
G’day mate, ridge didge video as always 👍. Recently I have been thinking of checking whether I was still subscribed to your channel, then this video appeared! It’s sooo good to hear all is tickety boo in the bullet wanderer world 😁. I must say while watching this video I became very tyred 🫣🤪🤣🤣. I don’t believe I just said that🙄🤪🤣. I have been riding for around 50 years, I cannot remember ever having a flat tyre. Just extremely lucky 🍀, & I’m not even Irish 🤣🤣. My first one is probably just around the corner 🤷🏻♂️🙄😳. I was extremely impressed with your improvised ending when the battery gave out. Very nice. Ride safe, take care. Hooroo for now 🏍👍😎…. P.S… do you remember I stupidly sold my beloved Betsy 500 tribute, I have paid for her again last week, so she is definitely coming home, hopefully next Saturday 🎉🥳🍻😁🤣🤣
Cheers! 😂😂 It's been a while since I've uploaded so glad to hear the notifications are still working 😆 Glad to hear Betsy is finally on her way back home, congratulations! 😁 Here's to many happy miles back together again! 🍻 🏍
