@timerider4 Brad Bird is currently directing Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, which is why he wasn't at the awards to accept the award. Tom Cruise (obviously) and Simon Pegg are both in the film, which explains why they're there.

They were in South America doing research for the movie in 2004 and that's when the story started to be written, 3 years before the french student film was released. Cars is based on director John Jassater's cross country road trip with his family that took him all up and down Route 66. The Incredibles borrows more from Watchmen than Fantastic 4, and even then the similarities are miniscule.

@hugeackman Just about every movie ever made borrows from other movies or story ideas or is a direct retelling of a specific story. If you do much writing you quickly discover that there are only so many stories out there, and no matter how you try to tell some story you're gonna end up with similarities to something, even if you're not aware of it. I doubt the Pixar people were thinking of Doc Hollywood when they made cars. They just had similar plot elements and issues, thus similar solutions.
