Dear Ralfy. Thank you for your wonderful reviews.Thank you for giving valuable information on the history of the brands. I never thought that drinking could be so enlightning. :)
With the money he got, John Teeling has set up a new (and high quality) independent bottlers (IWC) and now he is opening a new distillery within a few miles of Cooley. It has also prompted another half dozen possible new distilleries to get the finger out and start construction/distillation. In 5 years time there could be over a dozen Irish distilleries compared to three 6 years ago. What a difference a year makes!
Yeah looking back now excellent work, John kick started independent distilleries in Ireland from Louth again. There’s now the Shed in Leitrim, Writers tears Carlow, new Tullamore distillery, Teelings Dublin distillery, Great Northern Dundalk distillery, Roe&Co distillery plus more.
I have a great friend who is really into Bourbon. So I told him about Tyrconnell and your channel and shared it with him. Hoping for him to see more spirits he can enjoy.
I bought the same brand but no age statement still its same brand and a single malt. I was very pleased with it I got most of the same notes you got really a very nice dram and it is interesting too scotch and bourbon don't taste like this that is for sure! Very nice reviews on Irish whiskey as usual Ralfy, very good job.
Thanks Ralfy. The best bananas for me are old, fermented bananas. The older and more fermented, the better I find, so this review seems high praise indeed, though I've never actually stewed bananas, nor heard of such a thing.
Greeting Malt Messiah, here in Nova Scotia I've tried the Tyrconnell NAS and the Connemarra Peated NAS single malts from Cooley (the only expressions available here), would you recommend the Kilbeggan as a blended malt? I'm leaning towards picking it up since I enjoy the other Cooley offering so much. Cheers.
@ralfystuff so all the flavour comes from the grains and the barrels?... as you may notice i'm a biginner in this world.. hahaha, so thank you for your time.
Tyrconnell single malt is great on its own, but I often add a splash of Ardbeg 10 yr to add some complexity. Before I started watching Ralfy's reviews, I wouldn't have had the balls to blend my own.
I bought a bottle of the regular Tyrconnell Single Malt here in the US...it's not the 15year old, and I wasn't very happy with it. The nose and taste reminded me of tequila, oddly enough. I hoped that the underlying spirit would make the regular version at least a patch to the 15 year.
This whisky only got one more point than the Sainsburys one. Is it only 'one point better' or did you take the price tag into account? From the description it does sound a lot more complex.
@Tantrum777 That Tyconnell is most likely younger than 10 years old because there are also three 10 year old wood expressions from the same distillery.
Hi Ralfy, I've come across a "Finnegan" brand out of Cooley. Seems like a rather cheap product with no additional info on the label, not so much on the internet. Do you know it?

Kilbeggan (directly due to John) and Slane as well.
Love these reviews. very well done Sir! Thank you.

Great review Ralfy, I guess I better start sampling some Irish whisky.
One of my favourites, but not so easy to find here in Australia.

Cooley just bought by Beam for €73m.

Great review as always. Can't wait to try it!
I am surprised that when reviewing Irish whiskey that there was no midleton and I mean the Barry crocket legacy it is a fantastic pot still whiskey
Hi Ralfy, i have a question.. when you say a whisky smell like vanilla, what makes the whisky smell like vanilla?.. sorry from my english.

Sainsbury one was made by same distillery oddly enough so probably not all that different
@ralfystuff Yes I agree the Sainsburys is lovely, much better than a certain Welsh whisky i tasted recently which also is very young.
I think you should do a 'Top Gear' - style top 50 of all the whisk(e)ys you've rated on your website.

Thank you.
Dear Ralfy.
Is this your only Tyrconnell review? It's 5yrs old. Any plans to review the other offerings from them?
+CoffeeGeek Wake up, CoffeeGeek!
Or take a close look at the bottle: It really is 15yo.
+DK Oti Ah, of course... My mistake!
Gene needs to make a comeback and tell us about a tasty, Irish whiskey for St. Patrick's Day 2017.
this is great!
My favorite.
WikiRalfia ;-) always informative!!
So the younger brother is £15 and gets a 90 score but its 15 yo big brother at £50 gets 1 extra point. I can see where my money is going to go.
I should get me one of those leprechauns...
