In this video, I explore the whisky-making process and how alcohol distillation works in a simple step-by-step guide. The video dives deep into how a Pot Still works vs a Column Still, double vs triple distillation, why stills are made of copper, shell and tube condensers vs whisky worm tub condensers, how a Spirit Safe works and much more!
The great 3D distillation video was created by Olive Ende and can be found here: www.explanation-avenue.shop

Who else came over here from The Whiskey Tribe?
Great vid!!!
How good! Great to have you here!
Yes, yes, and more yes. So glad the Whiskey Tribe sent me over here. Can't wait to see more!
So, so good. You do such a good job of providing a wealth of easily digestible information in such a short space. And holy cow - geometric pot stills - I gotta get my hands on some Waiheke.
Thanks Don! Yeah it’s super unique. They use New Zealand peat too, quite different from Islay peat.
I used to watch the Whiskey Dictionary, but not anymore. You’re channel is better quality. Thanks!
The fact you're not the most subscribed Whisky Tuber baffles me. Some media companies don't put out content of this quality.
He does great work, I'm not a scotch guy mainly bourbon so I've don't follow him religiously but I enjoy some of his videos
Indeed.
Wow what great and informative content with helpful illustrations. Top job mate
Thanks James!
The quality of your videos is incredible. Keep it up :)
What a fantastic video. I've been trying to learn more about the process and this video explains it so well! Thank you very much for creating this.
Gotta love that Logan Roy cameo at 7:53
Great video - well expalined! The Craigellachie definitely earned a sub.
Ooh! I really enjoyed this! Thanks. 💚😎
Only just found you because of Daniel and Rex.
Now exploring your stuff.
It’s good! Cheers 🥃
You've done it again Phil-- a beautifully produced video that is packed with information that is easily understood. I honestly think you have the content that all whisky enthusiasts should digest and keep as their reference to help others who are interested. I recommend you content to my friends who want to really learn more about whisky and how it is produced. This will be at the top of my "must see" list now. Thanks for all the hard work. The resulting content is brilliant!
Thanks Bud! That really means a lot!
Excellent content as always!
Wow - such great production value for a RUclips vid!
I always look forward to your videos, you’ve helped me a lot all through my whiskey journey. I’m glad you are back to giving us some solid gems, thanks Phil
Grateful to have you watching! Cheers!

Thanks to Whiskey Tribe for direct me to this chanel. Subscribed.
Very interesting stuff.
Awesome, thank you!
Great distillation video!!! I think all the parts of the whisky-making process are essential to flavour in their own way, and that's the magic of it.
Well said!
Man, been getting into whiskey and I'm certain you produce the best content by leagues.
I'm shocked you don't have more views and subs.
Thank you so much! 😊
Love this video. There are a few things that could be corrected, but over all I really really loved this.
Fantastic video - clear, concise and therefore really accessible to those, like me, who don't know a lot about distillation. Thanks.
Thanks Nick! Glad it was helpful

Good thing you didn't start on Loch Lomond and their more quirky stills and cuts. Good work and very clear to follow.
This is awesome contect as always, really enjoy your videos!
Thank-you David!
Wow - incredible content Phil! I've enjoyed all of your videos and while I think it's great that there are so many wonderful whisky review channels, I feel the in-depth context your channel provides around so many whisky related topics is invaluable to any whisky enthusiast - it's so informative but also presented in a way that's easy to understand.
Thanks so much! It means a lot and I'm grateful to have you watching
Top class content. Much valued and appreciated
Thanks Michael!
Awesome videos. I aspire for my context to be at this level!
Fantastic work 👌👌👌 Thanks!
Thank you! Cheers!
Ótima explicação, com os desenhos ajuda muito no entendimento da fabricação! Parabéns
Dude, this is beyond great. I am far from a smart man about Whisky and this has been the best explanation of the distillation process, better than at Distilleries themselves. Great work buddy and subtle hat movements ;).
Thanks buddy! Appreciate you
People rarely went blind from homemade alcohol. It’s kind of a lot to explain though.
Now, there's a whisky geek 🤔..Great video,thanks for your contribution,Phil!
Thanks for watching!
@@FirstPhilWhisky,speaking of original pot stills, what are your thoughts on Loch lomond 18?
Still by far the best whisky videos out there. I know you have a lot going on, but always look forward to your videos. Cheers!
Means a lot! Thanks!
great job!
Hi Phil. As always a throughly good, interesting and good explained video. Great to watch. Excellent.👍, slàinte Phil 🥃
Thanks David! Appreciated
I love the production process videos. very cool.. and informational. I just toured Buffalo Trace for the 2nd time recently and got to see their brand new column still up close. This video made that experience make alot more sense. Well done!
Glad it was helpful for the tour! Cheers!
Great content! Amazing presentation! Very Engaging! Thank you!
Thanks Craig!
As far as I can tell, six Scotch distilleries are producing triple distilled whisky. Auchentoshan, Benriach, Benromach, Springbank, Bruichladdich, and Rosebank (which has reopened). Bruichladdich has even gone further and made quadruple distilled whisky!
Hey there, Phil!
I just had to drop by and say a big thank you for that incredible video you shared. 🙌 Your content is a perfect blend of informative and educational, all while keeping it light and funny - it's just my kind of entertainment! Also, the way you put together the video was top-notch, and I couldn't take my eyes off it. I'm eagerly looking forward to more fantastic content like this from you. Keep up the awesome work, and keep those videos coming! 🎉
By the way, this is the first time ever I'm writing a comment on RUclips - that's how much I loved your video! Cheers!
Thanks so much for the generous comment! Grateful to have you watching Roberto
Great video mate👍 Thanks!
Thanks!
Very informative. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! Thanks
Nice! You used the name I voted for
Phil! I was beginning to worry!
Great video btw.
Me too! Go good to post a video again.
I was about to mention the habit of duplicating dents from old stills to new, but of course you’re all over it. If you haven’t seen them yet, you should check out the stills at Manly Spirits Co. (Coastal Stone Whisky) as they were designed by chemical engineers.
Great video, and great to see you posting again. Cheers 🥃
Thank you!
Love this
Thanks Andrew!
Thanks!
Thanks so much Tom!!
Would love to have seen you comment more on direct fired stills and the impact of temperature
Yeah me too. Video was getting too long though.
got a follow you’re cool
Drinking Red Breast 12 while watching this. What a joy!
i missed you bro
Whiskeys and guitars are alot alike. Every single element of a guitar changes its sound right down to the type of finish on the body. Just like every single component of a Whiskeys journey will have an effect on it's taste, right down to the angle of the condenser
Exactly
We were missing you fella.. Great video!! Just would like to add that those bad components on the foreshots that are discarded, are not created during the distillation. They were there all the time from the fermentation and that is one of the reasons the hangovers from drinking beer or wine are much worst then whisky that can be more due to dehydration - if you keep drinking water you'll be fine in the morning. Cheers!
Ah great point! Thanks Davide
New video idea. I just told Chat GPT what whiskies I like and it confidently gave recommendations, explaining similarities and complements with other whiskies. Would love to see someone test how accurate it is.
Great suggestion!
So, does a column Still have a spirit safe?
golf ball shaped still with dimples
What's the link below will show misleading information about 4shots
Its the cask
👌☝🥃
Why the extremely bad main camera quality?
A lot of mistakes were made in this explanation 🫢
But it was a beautiful video, and I believe it will help many people gain a better understanding of alcohol production. 😊
Thanks!
Wow thanks so much Michael!
