Now that is a blatant rip-off of the Ridge, however, at a price that reflects the cost of manufacture, unlike the Ridge! 😂 On another note, it can be a rip-off as long as it likes as they are not trying to pass it off as a Ridge wallet, so that’s ok in my book. The Ridge prices are crazy for what you get. If I’d seen those, I would chose the Pirna.
Just curious if you would ever do a comparison between other knockoffs that are available? I got a Dinghao wallet recently based on a rumor that they were made by the same chinese manufacturer that makes the Ridge wallet, and it looks just like the ridge. A lot of the comparison videos talk about how flimsy the clip is or the elastic is on knockoffs, but mine feels pretty good for 1/10th the price of a ridge wallet. I think the innovation that goes into some of these newly designed wallets are interesting, but feel that price points on these is extravagant for no reason. Thus why I bought a knockoff of a wallet that I wanted.
Thank for the question, YES, we’ve had this request before and have a plan on purchasing a grouping of “knockoff” wallets and do comparisons to market wallets.
@@walletopia In all seriousness, would you recommend spending $125 for this wallet? Is there a cheaper alternative? I don't mean a straight knock off, but something with almost the same quality with half the price?
I love the channel man do you think you could do more reviews on aurochs wallets like the gravity or the nova? I wanna see more of there wallets but there’s virtually no reviews or videos on most of their products, thanks!
Cool video. Actually learned about carbon fibers conductivity from a special with Michio Kaku. It really is a super material with amazing properties. I'm not sure if the inner plates are all plastic or if there's any metal but that could give a false positive. You should try the test again with the plates removed by themselves.
Thanks Kevin, when I was trying to find a way to test if the carbon fiber used was "real", doing the conductivity test was the best I could find and even then it was difficult to really validate, even through research papers, the conductivity experiment. Do you have a link for the Michio Kaku information?
The newer models of the pirna wallet are nicer as they have the forged carbon plates but I would say that the king of the affordable ridge style wallet's is still rossom because of the extras that they do for about the same Price point as the pirna but they take. A close second place after rossm
I have some raw carbon fiber here and can confirm that, yes, it is indeed conductive, surprisingly so. The Ridge pricing is obscene, I mean CF is expensive, but not *that* expensive, jeez! 😲
Great vid. I agree that the Ridge wallet is way overpriced (hence the reason I got it on sale,) but that Pirna carbon fiber material looks heinous. Fingerprints are a no no. I'll stick with my Ridge.
As far as I know that inner part is coated aluminum - not a plastic. You repeated this mistake in a few of Your videos already... That's why this carbon wallet can be RFID blocking...
Nice review! Thanks for all the great reviews. Have you heard of the wyn minimalist wallet 2.0. I looks like a great little wallet. The company only has short little clips of it and I can’t get a good view of it. Can you check it out? Thanks!
Yes it works for diodes. But what we're testing is the continuity of the electrons moving through the material, which is what that did, demonstrating that the carbon fiber provides a channel for the charge to travel.
The problem with ridge wallets is that they are to expensive for what they are just look at all the copies and clones ok all of which aren't of the same quality but one or two do try to get close for a way cheaper price pigs will fly before I would drop 85 pound plus on a wallet
I hate when the product is literally the same... In the sense where if maybe there was a slight change in the features somehow or the position of the parts and or groves might make the competitor stand out....
Yes, but that’s the law of the product jingle and how prices are driven down. Happens for almost anything sold even with pharmaceuticals. But yes, it would be nice if we saw more innovation than copy cat activity.
I haven't checked, but not if Ridge didn't submit a design copyright then there's no potential infringement. Even if they had one, they would still need to successfully defend that copyright in court. By the time that happens, the design has been infringed so many times by so many other companies that's it's not worth it and the financial longevity of the design has been expended anyway. It's a ROI issue and in most cases it's not worth fighting.
I'm not even sure if the design CAN be copyrighted/patented.... I could build one of those in my garage it's so simple. It may be a new design and it may be useful but it's certainly not non-obvious. If I worked in the patent office I wouldn't grant it.
I know groups who have patented thumb hole designs, very generic. You can patent/copyright anything but it’s really not worth much until you’ve successfully defended it in court.
Communist just copy as in steal the property of others.. I am sure if you had an idea that you made of your own You would not want someone to steal your money!!
Are “knockoffs” bad? Or are they a sign that the inventing company should be moving on to something more innovative?

Oh, I feel the Ridge score should be a 1 for price. It is as overpriced as something can be.
I must have been kind that day, it really should have been.

Really liked the electricity experiment. Really unique and I learned about carbon fiber now lol
Thanks! From what the Internet could teach me, this is a way to validate whether it’s carbon fiber or not without breaking it in half :)

Now, let's get to the fun part
**double ad starts playing**
Laughs in ad-block
Now, Ridge is selling the carbon fiber at $125! They increased it!
Wowzers!

Very interesting datas, thanks for the detailed experience. Do we want to support big names (Ridge, Trayvax etc.) or keep customer interests in mind?
Indeed, brands would have everyone think that competition, especially knock-offs are evil, but in the end they provide choice...competitive choice.
exactly

Yes! We have the Gravity, Nova and Nano coming up withn the next 2 months. We've already reviewed the Eclipse ruclips.net/video/wcmE0BuC6ew/видео.html

Lifetime warranty is also a factor.
Great point to consider in the purchase!
What was the aftermath of scratches on both wallets you really dragged those things on that desk of yours and with the screwdriver.
Outside a little of the coating on the screws coming off due to the screwdriver, nothing.
The ridge wallet looks a little classier... It just looks a little better to me..
From a finish perspective you’re right.

Yes, the finish on the PIrna leaving fingerprints is something I don't like either.
Ridge all the way..
Pirna wins. No card holder/money clip should be at a $115-$125 cost.

Hi Gosu, yes you're correct, I came to learn that after the fact.

LOL? YOU REALLY ARE A NOB, NOBERT! THIS IS BASIC SCHOOL PHYSICS!
Looks like Amazon no longer offers this wallet. Goos while it lasted
Looks like they dropped the listing for another one, try this one, amzn.to/2Uz90OY

It's like comparing sunglasses you can buy in a gas station to authentic Raybans. 1/10th the price, but do you really want to wear them? Haha

Shameless copy.
There’s no infringement of copyright when pirna virtually copied the entire ridge design?

So what we learned so far is that capitalism gives you the same result as communism but at a price...good comparison review 👍🏼
Indeed, the competitive market will always push greater innovation and weed out poor performers.
