Except it's still not making money. Hoping Airbus can optimise production costs, as I love flying the A220 (done a lot of LCY to ZRH on Swiss) and think it's an extremely cool plane.
The Bombardier C series is truly a Canadian engineering marvel. Airbus will be able to take the a 220 to the next level. The flying public loves it as pilots and airlines. Cheers 🇨🇦
The extended range is certainly a benefit for Qantas, but with fewer than 30 orders so far, and the order coming in so late in the life of the A220, I'm not it was that big a deal Qantas have always had a preference for aircraft types with unique modifications due to its unique geographic location. Ultimately, the range works for Australia and North America due to the sizes of those regions, and for a low cost carrier who wants to operate on that model of business, but doesn't quite work as well as the A320 and 737 for midsize needs. That's why some airlines are pushing for a 500 version. Ultimately, size still matters.
When it's in the "Air.".....not sitting on the ground , searching for it's long lost replacement engines , which no one really knows when that will be !!
@@SRT-fv6wr at least it didn't get more severely mass-grounded due to some crashes. And why did that pitch down while the pilots forcefully tried to keep it in the "Air"?
you could argue that c-series was designed to fly cross Canada, probably from St. Johns to like Vancouver/Victoria. most limits on aircraft, range/mtow, are typically very conservative, so if you fly test flights with known safety margins and prove consistently the aircraft can still perform the mission with high safety guarantees, ya you can help increase those limits
@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183The engineers who worked on the A220 do fly Toronto within their country, though, so unlike European engineers, they have intimate experience with the breed for an airliner for long skinny routes, whether we're taking Halifax - Vancouver, Perth- Auckland, Chicago-Honolulu, or Dublin-Qatar!
Something people are forgetting is that we (as in Airbus) are plagued by these Pratt and Whitney engine delays.. trust me.. we are getting destroyed by it also.
Breeze Airways has requested an A220-300LR with 4000 nautical mile (7412km) of range from Airbus and it is still waiting. It would wants to know the range of the A220-500, given that the existing wing could carry a larger heavier aircraft with a bigger center wing tank, might also offer that 4000 nautical mile (7412 km) range! But airlines want to take the performance cake and have the same aircraft take off from short 6000-foot runways as well.
Note sure what city pairs the increased range will open the 220 for Qantas. Qantas had both F28s and BAe146s im its fleet in past to serve outside of Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane corridor. The A220 is the perfect size for it. But not sure it didn't already have range to serve Darwin-Cairns or other city pairs. I guess flights from Perth are more range intensive. The increased MTOW also allows QF to sacrifice range for extra cargo which is likely what they are more happy about.
Haven't had a chance to catch a flight on this great plane, but if I had a choice between the A220 and a 737/A320 to fly more than three hours, I'd definitely pick the A220.
Why would you "definitely" fly it and how have you already made up your mind what the better aircraft is for that type of flight if you've never flown it before? Sounds like you're just a sheep that takes on everyone else's opinions.
Get lost with genocidal Canada. This plane was made and conceived in Quebec. It was sabotaged by Canada. Stop stealing the shine of something your fellow “nice” Canadians wished dead… sickening
No point having the aircraft range when PW can’t service the engines forcing airlines into long term grounding, and Airbus are delivering A220s at a snails pace. Qantas will now be lucky to see this aircraft in 2024.
I wonder why Southeast Asian airlines are not flocking to this airplane in droves, given its range. Most SEAsian airlines have operations of flying from key cities to thin, far flung destinations, often on multiple legs, and turning around their airplanes without refueling, hence the need for range.
They're not thinking anything. Ryanair thought they chose the airplane that always fit them best, and hands down, that was the Boeing 737, and not any Airbus.
Not to forget that Ryanair backed Boeing and the 737 max 8 in its darkest hour and placed an order. I’m sure that Michael O’Leary drove a hard bargain on the unit price in those circumstances. At the time, it was the only good news that Boeing had. He knew that supporting Boeing at that time would be good for them and an excellent business deal for him.
Airbus had done NONE of what you are talking about and please state why has Bombardier sold the CSeries contract for 1 dollar to Airbus... I Worked on this Contract for almost 9 years until it was given away to them.. This the Avro Arrow once again.... SHAME......
Bombardier did such a good job, it's a shame they don't still have their name on this wonderful airplane
either they kept the name or died.
They should thank the Canadian tax payer for enabling their work.
You can blame Boeing for that. Airbus saved the CSeries.

It’s a pile of garbage…ask mechanics
@justing42 he is correct. I work on the 100s and 300s and they're always broken. Engine changes all the time and constant issues
Great for larger countries like Canada, USA, Mexico, Brazil and Australia
Yep
Mexico? Russia and China
@benwilson6145 my list wasn't exhaustive. That's why I said "countries like". Just giving examples.
Flew the jet once. absolutely loved it's. Outside noise, cabin design, spacious and comfortable seats. Great product

If it has the range to do Sydney to Perth and Wellington then it's exactly what QANTAS needs to replace it's aging B.737 fleet.
It is a fantastic aircraft. The level of comfort is so good. ✈️
This is now my favorite airplane. Also love the 787 and pending 777x. But the A220 300 is just so super cool in ways that are hard to explain.
Boooooring.
Until you have to work on them. It is junk.
As a ramp agent, its the only plane that I can bring in without hearing protection if I needed to because its so quiet
I’d rather fly the A220 over a 737 or A321neo. So long range is good

Just flew the inaugural PVD-LAX on Breeze. It was just as comfortable as my EWR-SAN flight on UAL, maybe even more so with the 2-3 layout.
the A220-300 in ACJ specification would do great as a long range large cabin private jet . . . 23 - 28 paxs plus 5 crew . . .
Believe the A220 in ACJ does 10,465km
Boeing prolly still kicking themselves over taking down Bombardier, and now made the program stronger with Airbus
Loved flying on the A220. Very comfortable; I'd happily do longer trips on it

Lots of long thin potential, possibly out of Canberra or Adelaide but also north qld to Syd or Mel , as well as WA mining as you point out.

Didn't Breeze also request longer-range a220s?

Whats the extended range?
PW engines is it’s biggest limitation.
