"Ukraine deserves all the support it can get from Europe," says Slovenian PM Robert Golob

  • Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob has rejected criticism from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy of repairs to the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.
    “I agree with him on many things, but not on this one”, Golob said, in an interview with DW's Richard Walker.
    Golob was referring to the need for a turbine for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline that links Russia to Germany to be returned to service in Russia as soon as possible. The turbine has been under repair in Canada, where it was blocked as a result of sanctions imposed against Russia. Ottawa has now agreed to allow its return to Germany.
    The supply of gas from Russia to Germany is crucial to keep Europe strong, Golob argued.
    "If gas flows resume, that’s a good sign for Europe and later for Ukraine as well”, Golob said. “Right now, Ukraine deserves all the support it can get from Europe”, Golob said.
    But Europe had to stay strong in order to provide support. “By weakening Europe at its heart in Germany, at its industrial base - it doesn’t help Ukraine at all.”

    • @no_rubbernecking
      @no_rubbernecking 2 года назад +1

      Perhaps because he needs support from the countries that are buying it.
      There will be gas, just not nearly as much. Prepare for rationing. Prepare to have to shut down factories that use gas. Prepare for anyone who is able to add electric heating to have to add electric heating. Add large battery storage wherever possible. Add insulation wherever possible. Save electricity starting now. (Starting months ago!) Contract with France for any spare nuclear generation. Prepare to burn coal, fuel oil (which is diesel), trash, peat, wood, and fresh yard trimmings. Use concentrating solar heaters to capture and store whatever heat is possible. If it's just one or two people in a household, consider pairing up with another household. Consider taking your vacation during the winter, and go south. The more properties that can be shut off during that time, the easier the shock will be. Stop driving your electric cars now, through next spring. Make sure that every large battery system is fully charged going into the start of winter..Make sure that every PV system that's out there is charging a non-vehicular battery at all times. Have office parks that use solar recharging of vehicles stop recharging the vehicles unless an employee can show that they have no other means to do their commute. Consider replacing some of your electric trains and buses with diesel temporarily. If any communities have a steam heating system, they should be required right now to be organizing other sources for energy, including solar thermal and micro wind on-site.
      I spoke to one German gentleman on YT, who was very nice. I suggested blanketing the south sides of their mountaintops with PV panels, starting now. (The higher you go, the less air between the panel and space to absorb solar energy and re-radiate it to space). His reply? 'The ski resorts might not like that.' There is the problem in a nutshell. Why does this matter what a wealthy company that sells luxuries (or their customers) would like?

    Every day, Russia spends $900 million on the war in Ukraine. These funds go toward maintaining Russian soldiers, providing them with ammunition, and repairing equipment. Such daily expenditures are comparable, for example, to the annual GDP of the small island nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Russia funds its war in Ukraine with gas and oil sales. In the meantime, 30% of Russia's territory still doesn't have a centralized gas supply. The Russian Federation plans to finish connecting citizens to the gas grid only in 2030. Interestingly, in 2022 Russia plans to spend only $1.5 billion on gas networks. Instead of improving the quality of life for its citizens, modern Russian funds wars. As long as Russia makes enormous profits from its energy monopoly in Europe and Asia, the threat of new wars remains high. The world must refuse Russian oil and gas as soon as possible because it keeps financing wars!

When Europe decides (embodies the reality) that this is a war by Russia on the West, then we'll be less likely to talk in terms of what Ukraine "deserves" or "can get", and more resolved in moving heaven and Earth to saturate her with what she needs.
