I honestly don't think DK oldies content can ever get old at this point. I'm as excited about the 100th DK oldies unboxing I've seen as I was like the 3rd haha.
This one shady, he claims they don’t know it’s him but the box literally came with a sticker of him on it. It’s also the only clean one iv seen.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if the interior wasn't cleaned by DKOldies rather, it was cleaned by the original owner who sold it to DKOldies.
That's a valid point and certainly could be the case too. As they say a broken clock is still right twice a day. This could just be a lucky situation for them.

Wow cleaning the inside. What a novel idea. As if that wasn’t part of cleaning, maintenance, and the restoration that they claimed to be doing in the first place. (For the listed items they claimed.)
Refurbishing should always include new thermal paste/liquid metal and complete cleaning. I think the main systems that are effected by not refurbishing is PS and Xbox.
Yeah, it's almost like they aren't actually DOING anything.
At least now, they've started cleaning them.
Liquid metal is only applied to a PS5. None of the other consoles have it
I do not believe thermal paste is a requirement. The Motorola 64000 definitely doesn't need it and newer consoles should theoretically be in good condition for many more years. You shouldn't break the circuit in any system unless you have to. Bulging capacitors are another issue altogether
@@SoulforSale For older consoles, like the PS3/360 and earlier should have it's thermal paste reapplied when refurbishing it.
You should have checked the thermal pads and the inner parts by removing the optical disc drive and the shielding. Those thermal pads are probably as dry as the dessert, or not, but we won't know unless you open it fully.
I would think giving you all third party cables and controller would significantly effect the value if you wanted to sell the console at some point, pretty criminal considering the price they charge
Yeah it definitely would. Third party cables go on amazon for about $5-$7 and that's on the high side going with prime. Third party controllers are about $12 in most cases. These old skool ones may be little more but virtually no used resale value at all.
They just send them out as they receive them, basically. It's just about where these consoles lived their lives. Smokers, pets, kids, carelessness etc..
They get the assets in bulk and if they're working, they go out. I'm pretty sure this is the answer to all the variables!

Me too. Funny how it didn't get much love until years later. Now it and its games are some of the most expensive out there. Much like the Dreamcast. When it came out it was the least popular when compared to Playstation and N64. Now it's loved and highly thought of.

Those marks from the elm usa resurfacer are caused by them not cleaning the trays every 30 minutes of run time and if they dont clean it it can actually eat through the paint and ruin games. Source is myself and having used mine thousands of times.
I don't know about Gamecube disks, but on the CDs, the top part is not only the label but the data itself. If you completely scrape it, you just get transparent plastic. They are much more fragile than the bottom part.
That's interesting I honestly did not even know that. I assumed the data was on the bottom.
Gamecube discs are not CDs. They are essentially a proprietary mini-DVD, which has its data sandwiched between two layers.
All I gotta say is that…that 007 game plays better on ps2.

I'm surprised to see that the system was actually very clean inside. Maybe they're finally getting the message? If they are, then I really hope they make cleaning the inside of their consoles a standard thing. Its a shame that the finish on the shell was scrubbed or buffed away on most of the sides. I know it isn't the main focus, but it is another issue that should be addressed.

lmao.....yeah I put it over the address as to not share it with the entire world on youtube. Full disclosure though this was not sent to my name or address as DKO knows who I am from my past unboxing video. It would be a bad move to use my name and address so I used a friend name and address (who lives 40 minutes from me). That way there is no risk of being connected to me in any way. The email used to contact them about the external condition was also not mine. I waited until they shipped me a replacement too to post this video. All these extra steps were taken to deliver a fair and honest review.

I have no firsthand experience of buying from these people but there was something that really struck me about their own order packing videos. Other than the general level of cheesiness that is. I have not noticed how they store the bigger consoles but the handhelds were just loose in boxes, free to bang against each other if the boxes were moved. With that lack of care in their storage methods, it is no surprise to me that they so often reach customers looking quite beaten up. Even before you get on to anything about standards (or lack thereof) of refurbishment, I think for the prices you should be able to expect better.
Agreed. I've seen videos where you can see consoles stacked on top of each other in the background. That's a great way to get scuffs on top of every console. I understand storage could be a big logistical nightmare but you could put a thin layer of bubble wrap (which they have plenty of) between each console if you do intend to stack.

It's just a good thing they're finally starting to realize, you shouldn't have to pay exorbitant prices for peace of mind with a vintage console. My parents payed 120 dollars in 2003 for my GameCube. It ran just fine for years, pretty sure a picnic table leaning against the wall ended up hitting it.
Not defending DKOldies but the GameCube looks perfectly fine for a good condition console. I could definitely see the scuffs but all in all that’s good enough for a good condition console. I’ve seen worse being sold for good in other places.
I think the video makes it look better than in person. It's tough with platinum because the lighting makes it shine and you see less of the imperfections but it's not terrible but doesn't seem good to me seems cosmetically flawed which they did tell me when I reached out that they believe they mixed up my order with another that was supposed to be cosmetically flawed version. All good in the end tho.s

Don't forget. DKOldies does open up consoles when they arrive to the warehouse with issues like not turning up, not reading disc etc. So maybe that GameCube was one of them and they cleaned inside during the process of fixing the problem. The point is we can't say for sure yet that they started to actually refurbish all the consoles they ship. Maybe Retro Game Guy won the jackpot and that's all.
100% agree as they say even a broken clock is right twice a day. It's a fairly decent experience internally here this time but I couldn't never confidently say they have changed their ways yet. We'll get to see again tho with a part 2 because I emailed them regarding the external condition and they admitted that what I received is not a good condition console it's a cosmetically flawed console so they're exchanging it. I placed my order under a friends name and address made sure to wait until the replacement shipped before posting this so they don't know it's me that is connected to this order or at least didn't until this evening when the video posted.

At this point they should’ve just gave you a GameBox instead of a GameCube, nothing but third party stuff in there, unfortunate.

haha well I say another chance because before the video was put out I reached out o DKO about the external condition and they admitted they made a mistake and sent me a cosmetically flawed console versus a good condition console so there will be a part 2 to this when I receive the exchanged GameCube. No plans to place orders beyond this one here though. I've only placed two orders total with DKO to date.
I'm calling it now, the person that sold the console to DKoldies opened it up beforehand and cleaned it out.
That certainly could be the case. A broken clock is right twice a day....they could have been given a good console to begin with that they sold. We'll get a part 2 on this though because the console is being exchanged for another one as they admitted to sending out a cosmetically flawed console instead of a good condition console as advertised. I made sure to not post this video until after they shipped the exchanged console so they don't go above and beyond with the process since I'm a youtuber. This order was placed in a friends name and sent to their address as to not connect it to me.
For the price they charge, the console should come with original accessories 💀.

this is a DOL-001 based on the digital AV port, so where is the serial port 2 connector underneath the console?
Not all DOL-001’s have a serial port 2. Only the first run had these, and was later removed to cut costs since they served no purpose outside of dev kits.

I think you need a bigger sample size to draw conclusions. You should buy 10 GameCubes, 10 N64’s, 10 PS1s, PS2s, PS3s and PS4s in addition to 10 of each game boy, Xbox and Sega system. Then you can fairly test their service. Also because you bunch of RUclipsrs seem to be their only customers so they could do with the massive payday lol. This message was sponsored by DKOldies.
Did they actually change the stickers they are using? I remember seeing a "void if removed" printed in the hologram part in some other videos. Kind of hard to tell with the camera angles, but looks like that might be gone now.

I have 3 GameCubes at the moment. Im Constantly buying and selling consoles and accessories. I'm also big on emulation. If you go through my past videos you'll see I've done a whole lot with retro gaming emulation tutorials etc

At this point I don’t think I would ever buy a console from them. I’d rather pay to get a mint one on eBay with original accessories. I think I’d only by games or accessories that I couldn’t find somewhere else from them.

I just for fun asked chat GPT what the legal definition of refurbished means. Legally speaking. It said "Legally, there's no real definition of "refurbished.” It can signify whatever a vendor or seller wants it to mean."
Agreed I think we have to assume refurbished from dko means opened and cleaned as that's what they always say in videos. In the past we have not seen that done. Recently they have started doing this.

That's exactly what I would do but I emailed dko and brought up the issues and turns out they messed up and sent a cosmetically flawed console so they are replacing it.

lmao. It's a birthmark but say what exactly? I still outlined the negative end of the outside being cosmetically flawed when they advertised "good" condition. Can't dispute the fact that the inside in clean. At the end of the day I'm going to give a honest and accurate review. I think they are shady and not reputable however in this instance it was a major step up from what they have done in the past.
The problem is You need to order it anonymously, if they know it is a RUclipsr, it's more likely to get refurbished.
I ordered this in a friends name and it was sent to a friends address. It's in no way connected to me or my channel until now where they could see the video.

NO! Stop buying from them. This is ridiculous. It still gets you views but is otherwise pointless. We already know what this is going to be without even watching the video. Instead of going back to the same couple of businesses over and over, why not try someone else, like jjgames for example. There are many others out there.
Will be testing others for sure but the result here is actually completely different than what we have seen just about anywhere else in the past including right here on my channel. They have made changes. It doesn't change my opinion on them but I will give credit where credit is due.....they have at least taken a step in the right direction.
There is plenty out there.. ebay, amazon, fb marketplace, 😂 but they dont pull in the views quite like dko.. 😂😂😂 gotta buy, cry and repeat…

It doesn't look like he did, if you look at the beginning of the video that was literally a retro gaming guy sticker they stuck on the Box. And that's the problem if they know it is for a RUclipsr, especially the bigger ones, it is more likely to get refurbished for that reason.

What makes you think I wasn't anonymous? I actually placed this order in a friends name with a different address and different email address. It connects back to me in no way other than the fact that I've claimed this console/order with the video here. I taped a post card advertisement for my channel over the address on top as to not expose the address I had it shipped to. I do that on all videos so personal addresses aren't shared with the world on RUclips.

I didn't use the same name or address and I'm 3 months out from my last order too. My email to them today was also from the email of the person that ordered this for me.

This Guy... complains 3rd party cables... from an 20+ year old console where a lot of original cables got lost or broken... complaints that it has some marks and scufss.. if you buy an old console it's more than normal you can receive a cosmetically flawed console. RUclipsr nowadays demands that if they buy a 20+ year product is as good as new... give me a break... you can always complain from all companies (not only DK Oldies) that you receive NOT a new product when you buy an old 20+ year console.
Didn't complain about third party cables I simply stated that I'm not crazy about them because they're $3 cables that are made very cheaply and don't last long. I complain about the external condition because DKO went out of their way to advertise a "good" condition console "free of most blemishes" which this is not. I emailed DKO photos of this console and they agreed that they sent out a cosmetically flawed console by mistake. I'm totally cool with them for admitting it and for offering an exchange. That's good customer service on their part. I give props where they are due always. Companies should deliver what they advertise. 20 years old or not you have to advertise accurately. Nobody would call the external condition "good" condition. Don't stand up for bad business practices....its a bad look on you.

But as you see they offer you an exchange and they do solve most problems when people complain. Yes they should advertise it more like only cleaned or refurbished and not all as the same but they did improve in the prices, atleast nowadays clean the consoles better and also changed the policy with the sticker.
