You put double the amount needed on the toast, I’m not Ozzy or Brit and Vegemite and Marmite are not the same at all, Marmite is not palatable for me personally. Fun episode good job 👍

Vegemite used to be used a lot more for cooking , in previous generations. I was taught to make gravy with it, and to put it in soups. My dad used to make a drink with it, literally hotwater and vegemite. We used it as a rub on meat especially chicken. Ive used it instead of soy sauce on noodles and rice. when I heard buttery vegemite pasta, I went yum!
I think someone trolled you nicely with that vegimite pasta and chicken wings. 40yo and I have never heard of such things. Try slicing a tomato, cover lightly in vegimite and sprinkle in basil and fry. Also goes real well as a marinade with garlic and rosemary on a roast lamb
Buying bread from a man in Brussels He was six-foot-four and full of muscles I said, "do you speak-a my language?" He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich

That’s been my reaction to the Australian videos - how do you “do Australia” and only manage a few coastal stops, a couple of stops in Queensland and a few days in Melbourne? So much good stuff missed for some pretty mediocre stuff...
The Endless Adventure haha I know! I think because it was a small amount, you definitely tried the right amount for newbies! Maybe a little more butter next time, helps with the vegemite for sure! Hope you enjoyed your time in Aus! I’m missing home, living in HK at the moment!

Thank you thank you thank you..you put the right amount on Honestly I don’t care if you hate it if you put it on right You can also use vegemite as a stock like a beef stock for soup That jar of vegemite would literally last 6/8 months
We ate our vegemite toast along with our eggs, bacon and fried tomato (pronounced to-mah-to) breakfast. We liked it as long as it was spread very thinly!
Yes, I eat Marmite being a Brit and it has to be butter on the toast first, then a little Marmite. Could not eat Marmite on toast without a lot of butter!
I’m a born and bred Aussie, and a happy little vegemite, but I have never heard of vegemite pasta or wings! Keep it simple; toast, sandwich or cheesymite scroll....and MUCH more butter on that toast 😊
OK the VEGEMITE 101. My family emigrated to Australia from Czechoslovakia. I grew up in Melbourne. When I was in primary school I envied the other kids who had chocolate spread on their sandwiches. One day I traded my home made sandwich with a kid expecting the sweet Nutella like spread and bit into the sandwich. It was VEGEMITE. I was distressed for days and possibly in need of therapy but the trauma passed without professional help. Years later I worked for an animation company in Sydney that produced a few VEGEMITE commercials and by that time I had grown accustomed to it. Now that I have lived in Asia for over 20 years I still like when I see a jar of VEGEMITE in selected food stores. Here's the secret. Just toast a few slices of good bread, spread some butter and then spread some VEGEMITE sparingly. Make sure it is just a light brown spread and no dark blobs of the stuff. VEGEMITE is strong. There used to be a joke where a contestant on a TV game-show won the consolation prize which was a years supply of VEGEMITE......One large jar! You get it now.
I'm from the UK and have never tried Vegemite, but I like Marmite and have been told they are similar. Our family mix the Marmite and butter together to spread on toast or a sandwich (put some butter and a little Marmite onto a saucer and kind of smoosh them together). Makes it easier to get the right amount and easier to spread. We also use it as a kind of concentrated stock to stir into soups, stews etc. My friend always stirs some into her spaghetti bolognaise.
I'm a Melbourne boy (22yo) and I grew up eating it. I hadn't heard of Vegemite pasta until I was around 12 or 13 and my older sister made it. I thought she was crazy at first but I've made it since and if you do it correctly it can be super tasty 😋 When I'm eating Vegemite, because I'm so used to it and have been eating it all my life, I put HEAPS on my bread or toast 😂 Sometimes I don't add butter but its much better with butter tbh. Definitely use the TINIEST amount if you are a foreigner or haven't tasted it before. It takes time getting used to but if you do it properly and eat it regularly you will eventually love it!
I studied in Australia many years ago and fell in love with Vegemite. Vegemite on toast with cheese is my favourite. I might try the Vegemite roll Alison made. We've marmite in Malaysia but, there are not the same.
Vegemite is the spin-off of Mamite . Marmite is made here in Burton-on-Trent, England out of yeast bi- product from the brewing process for beer. Love Glen , patreon from England near Burton -on-trent.
@@lmaree200886 Thanks I always wondered what the difference was. When people would say in other videos that it was very salty. I always thought Marmite was never that bad, now I know why.
@@trecaa I'm an Aussie that grew up on mostly Vegemite. As a 32 year old adult I get cravings for it mostly when I get muscle cramps or if I'm sick. I make it into a hot cup of soup for a head cold or flu. I think having a Vegemite sandwich almost every day in my school lunch for 3 years turned me off it for a while! I like all yeast spreads even the no name or store brands. Each is unique. There's a NZ version of Marmite that's different tasting too.
I worked in a bakery for eight years and the trick is to actually thin the vegemite out with water in a mixer! Makes it more goopy and easy to spread :)
I'm a South West Victorian and I've had Vegemite bolognese a number of times but never seen this recipe. You mix the tomato sauce & Vegemite with the meat & it gives it a richer flavour.
i recently visited australia and when i first tried vegemite my first bite was like: ewww i dont.. well its not too bad, dang this is actually really good. and then i got addicted to it.
Lightly wok fried broccoli with Vegemite is absolutely delicious, the brother first cooked it for me in San Fransisco. Very entertaining video guys, I enjoyed it immensely. Bravo!
Toast has gotta be real hot, a fair amount of butter and about as much vegimite that can fit on your pinky nail. You put waaaaay too much on that toast haha
It was nice to see you trying something so iconic to Australians. Vegemite is very much an acquired taste though, most of us have been eating it since we were very little (a vegemite sandwich was one of my first solid foods as a child) and it's almost a boasting right among Aussies of how much we can handle. Most people I know who live in Australian but who weren't born here or who's parents weren't born here don't really like it so for you to even think it is somewhat alright is better than expected. My favourite ways to eat it are on toast with lots of butter and just a tiny bit of it (like half what you put on your toast) or with cheese on top (and then I'd use how much you did for your toast, or maybe a bit more).
Good to see you at least gave everything a try, this Aussie it proud of you guys. Vegemite pasta, but you need to try the Nigella Lawson version with cheese and personalised never had Vegemite chicken wings ! What did you google to find these recipes.
There's reduced salt Vegemite, also when I was younger I use to thinly spread it on the toast and then butter it after... Seemed to dilute the taste but after some time I love spreading it thick now, goes really well with mushrooms, put shrooms in a pot with a good bit of butter and a teaspoon of Vegemite
Egg, preferably with a runny yolk. Avocado, sliced or smashed. Cheese. Cold or melted on toast or in a jaffle/breville toasted sandwich. I was a weird kid and ate Vegemite, cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwiches at one point! I haven't made one in years though!
Here in the UK way back in the 50's and 60's a hot cup of Bovril after an hour in the local freezing swimming pool was something you relished! Bovril makes an awesome hot winter drink.
you guys are the best !! ... Vegemite is def an aussie flavour......Vegemite on crumpets is also great !!!......So glad you did a whole video on this !!!
Wow you guys went all out! For many years I couldn't get past the smell of it to even attempt to put it in my mouth. Eventually my Aussie friends made me try a bit of their morning vegemite on toast & it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, salty yes but I love salty foods. It's still not a favourite of mine, but I can eat it without too much issue. My dad actually used vegemite as a marinade for bbq kangaroo & beef, it was really good!
See, we start eating vegemite as kids, so we get hooked to the salty savoury flavour early on. Lots of butter, finest scrape of vegemite. Best cure for hangovers, best cure for morning sickness. I’m going to steal your recipe for Vegemite scrolls, I usually buy them from a bakery!
We stayed with friends in Tennessee and took a bottle of Marmite for them to taste. They had the same reaction YUCK! My friend kept the bottle as a keepsake and it will probably keep for years and years as it is very salty. You needed a lot more butter on the toast, then a really thin scraping of the Vegemite/Marmite. I love Marmite!
Well, big thanks to you. You have completely put me off my dinner today, I have a Pirelli radial tyre in the oven right now! Looks like I’m going to get a takeaway instead 😜
I was so relieved when you said you weren’t actually gonna put that much Vegemite on 😂😂 I was like: no, no, please no! Cause Americans do that ALL the time and they always hate it lolll
I didn’t like Vegemite at first, too. Then a couple from NZ suggested I try it with cheese and I really liked it that way. Unfortunately it is not readily available in Germany.
This was one of your funniest videos LOL! Christelle is going to try Marmite when she comes to the UK, also on bread with cheese and pasta. We never put Marmite with chicken and now we see why.
I am middle aged and slowly adjusting to it. I can now eat the supermarket vegemite cheese scrolls. There is a brand called Aussie Mite which is milder in taste. The tiniest amount of vegemite the better to start. Vegemite Pasta, never heard of it. In Iran, I was told to try a food item, it tasted a lot like vegemite which surprised me. Once again try the bagel bite packet, if I can handle it, so should you guys. There is a penguin colony in Melbourne city, thanks guys
It is very similar to Marmite it has a slightly different flavour and is milder I feel. Australians usually prefer vegemite and British Marmite but I think it’s what you are used to. I would eat either, spread thinly on toast or with cheese in a sandwich. I really have to have a small amount though as it is very strong which ever you choose.
I had to laugh! When I saw how thick you were spreading it the toast, my first words were, Oh no! no so thick! That's bad! but then you said you knew that was to thick and to only scrap it on. Hahahaha! It was like you heard me. To funny!
I admire you for your bravery. You are experienced travellers, so you have learned the principal lesson of travelling - try everything you can. The best that can happen you have a marvellous experience and the worst possible outcome is you get a great story to tell. You guessed the error with the vegemite. In my experience most Americans do the same - put FAAAAAAAAR too much on. That 100g jar would last me a year or more.
Oh, and you still need to do the Vegemite with avo on toast. You could also try some Cheesymite - which is Vegemite mixed with cream cheese - another personal fav (although not so popular with the locals).
For Vegemite on toast you need to have cool toast, not such that the butter melts. Then add the Vegemite and mix in with the butter a bit. That's the way I have it. also spread Vegemite on toast and add a fried egg. I have never had the noodles or the chicken wings with Vegemite
We don’t have vegemite here (that I know of) but we eat marmite spaghetti on a weekly basis. I add Parmesan and LOADS of marmite. It’s possibly my favourite meal! Marmite roasties as well. I’d love to try vegemite.
Melbourne has an amazing food culture. I’m sure you enjoyed it. Las Vegas is where my sisters live. Not my fav city but I love old architecture and nature so I mostly hang out around Las Vegas cuz the city is too much sensory stimulation for me. I’ve seen the city many times. I’m pretty much over it. But valley of fire I never get tired of. When I visit LV I just hang out with my sisters and eat out and go thrift store shopping. They have a chain called Savers that is pretty fantastic
sweet cup of tea; lots of butter, thin spread of Vegemite; yum! When my hubby & I did a circumnavigation, I ate tons of Vegemite due to the high folic acid & Vit B as I was pregnant & cause our ocean crossings took weeks at a time, was one way to eat healthy - Vegemite was staple for soldiers' staples in wartime & had to be rationed for the public in WW2 due to military demand. Good you tried it though, and was anyone referenced as a wranger or bluey in OZ? Enjoy your vids!
@@lmaree200886WWI ended in 1918, but you're correct, invention came about due to the marmite issue in that war. Cheers. kiwireport.com/things-didnt-know-vegemite/
It smells like beef because beef stock cubes or liquid stock are often just yeast extract like what is in Vegemite. Some ' 'beef' stock cubes are vegan
Hey guys, great video. Vegemite is definitely my go to breakfast and i agree with some of the comments maybe try with a bit more butter on the toast... we also love it with fresh white bread (tip: must be super fresh). Best wishes for Vegas. Love watching your adventures here in Oz.
Let the toast cool so the butter doesn’t melt into it and more butter. Lettuce and vegemite sandwiches are good as is potato crisps and vegemite sandwiches. Cheese and a tiny bit of vegemite on crackers also very nice. Vegemite is great for add flavour to stews and gravy
Put simply, always use Vegemite sparingly! Even a small jar used regularly can last a long time. A great value flavour addition to sandwiches and savoury recipes.
Marmite is less bitter than vegemite in my opinion.I love marmite but didnt like vegemite.most people put a tiny amount on but I like mine thick.it is great to season veggi soups stews bolognaise etc.
"I said do you speak my language, he just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich". I like Marmite on toast (it looks like you put the right amount of Vegemite on your toast), but I've never tried the Australian version. I'd guess like Marmite it's something you either love or hate. I also like Marmite crisps/chips :D
I'm Australia and have only really eaten it on toast or the cheesey mite scrolls. You need more butter on your toast and just a little less Vegemite on it. Thanks for trying it.
I'm a Brit who is no great fan of Marmite, but it has a second life - as a seasoning in stews, soups and minced beef dishes. Maybe Vegemite works the same way?
Have grown up with vegemite and never heard of vegemite with pasta. But you definitely need more butter on the toast and even a lighter spreading of the vegemite.
Mix the Vegemite with butter then spread it! And no, it's not like the "Marmite" (Sanitarium) you get in Aus and NZ - that's full of sugar. The original Marmite, made in England since the early 1900's, does not contain sugar and tastes great - far, far better! Vegemite is good stuff!
In Aus there's about five off brands of Vegemite but now Vegemite has cheeseybite (mixed with cream cheese jar spread), and a low sodium milder flavour.
OMG could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try Vegemite & butter on vita weat next time!? you have to squeeze two together & let the butter-vegemite worms ooooze out :)
Oddly, I have never tried Vegemite (although I've seen it in the shops), but I will now. The thing is, I LOVE Marmite (did you know it's named after the pot that is shown on the label?). The downside is, my partner HATES it. She says if you eat that Marmite toast, brush your teeth and gargle before you come near me. But then, she hates coffee, too. Marmite is so famous for being divisive, that in England, something very divisive is called 'a Marmite problem'. I also have a friend who we call Richard-the-Marmite-geek, who collects all the special editions that Marmite do. While Sandy's not looking, I'll just say that a thin scrape of Marmite on hot well-buttered toast is a great way to start a cold winter's day. With coffee. Thankfully, we agree on most other things, so that works out... your faces when tasting the Vegemite were a picture, but one I have seen before. My old gran used to put a teaspoonful of Marmite in many soups and stews, but especially when making rabbit stew.
You have to try toast with Vegemite tomato cheese on the grill. Make sure the cheese is melted and the tomato is warm!! Its too good on a whole nother level!!! 😊😊 can also Add salt and pepper if you like

It's still not a favourite of mine, but I can eat it without too much issue. My dad actually used vegemite as a marinade for bbq kangaroo & beef, it was really good!
Vegemite sandwich, Men At Work, The Land Down Under about 1981-82. Our Australian friends taught us how to eat it and it's not bad.
Vegemite spaghetti was a staple for me when I first moved out of home. It's such a budget meal and total comfort food.
Your reaction was hilarious to the Vegemite! Haha! :Salty motor oil! It tastes like it you put a tire on fire!"
Please go into a bakers delight bakery and buy some of rehires cheese and ham scrolls, pizzas and other items they have. So delicious
Last time I went to Oz at customs they asked me if I had a criminal record, I didn't realise I still needed one lol
Great Video Guys.
Your Channel has inspired me to travel more and more. Also your videos just keep getting better and, better. Bravo! 👏 keep it up
At least you didn’t do the usual spoonful type of video which is definitely not the way to try vegemite
Thanks for trying Vegemite so i never have to. Great vid as always. Ive only had Marmite once, it is rank.
Vegemite and marmite are godly. It's just the American palette is not used to food unless it has cancer chemicals in it.
Taking one for the team, thanks.
I purchased some many years ago. Hated it! But I later used it in gravy and soup, I lived it.
I’m British and vegemite tastes exactly the same as marmite!
It goes well in a sandwich and amazing on cheese on toast
I am middle aged and slowly adjusting to it. I can now eat the supermarket vegemite cheese scrolls. There is a brand called Aussie Mite which is milder in taste. The tiniest amount of vegemite the better to start. Vegemite Pasta, never heard of it. In Iran, I was told to try a food item, it tasted a lot like vegemite which surprised me. Once again try the bagel bite packet, if I can handle it, so should you guys. There is a penguin colony in Melbourne city, thanks guys
Great video as always. One question, how long is it from filming to posting on RUclips? Im just wondering if there is much delay?
I think of vegemite as slightly milder and less salty than marmite. Both great.
Never heard of this until now. Would love to try to experience the taste personally. Thank you for this video
Have you had Marmite in England it's quite similar?
Nothing better than vegemite on toast, a vegemite sandwich or vegemite and butter on crispbread!
Oh, and you still need to do the Vegemite with avo on toast. You could also try some Cheesymite - which is Vegemite mixed with cream cheese - another personal fav (although not so popular with the locals).
After 25 years living down under, and having tried it twice in all those years, I still have Allison's reaction to Vegi.... :D :D
WWI not 2. Vegemite was invented in 1922 during WWI! And Marmite was hard to come by for Aussie and NZ soldiers because of no Marmite imports.
Spaghetti, butter and marmite is a staple quick-eat in our house. I guess Vegemite would work the same?
In Aus/NZ we eat vegemite or marmite from babies so it’s definitely an acquired taste.
Great Video, I'm waiting to see Melbourne adventure 😍😍😁😁👍
Your reaction remembered me to the reaction of some americans in their videos, when they tried Mettbrötchen here in Germany.
Hey I'm from Australia and Vegemite is the best and also you have to put butter on the toast with Vegemite not just Vegemite
That was fun.Alisons reaction to the Vegemite toast was classic. As a Brit I've never tasted Vegemite but I do love Marmite.
Now I feel like Vegemite on toast, it's a bit chilly in Melbourne tonight. But I don't have any bread. I better make some.
You need a small amount spread on top of butter or spread
I'm Australia and have only really eaten it on toast or the cheesey mite scrolls. You need more butter on your toast and just a little less Vegemite on it. Thanks for trying it.
This made me laugh so hard. Great video:)
Goes nice in gravy
I'm a Brit who is no great fan of Marmite, but it has a second life - as a seasoning in stews, soups and minced beef dishes. Maybe Vegemite works the same way?
Kevin Hickman Vegemite can be used like that too.
Vegemite is good stuff!
how many varieties are there? There's only one Marmite but lot's of by products!
Mark from Bournemouth
p.s. to spread try a hot knife!
