@dscinaz and to think, I missed an important topic. Charge time on road trips. 45 minutes approx. I added this to my Blazer review I'm uploading now. Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊
Thanks for your excellent review, you covered all aspects so far about the Equinox EV from al videos available on youtube at this time, specially for Canadians ;-). One question, can we apply and anti rust treatment like a normal vehicle or is not at option? and also at 6:01 I see a kind of black cover under the hood, like to protect the underneath of the door hood, I bought the base version of the Equinox EV 2025 and mine didn't come with this protective panel, is that normal? is that of a concern not having it?, many many thanks!
Thank you! As for the black panel, it's not necessary for anything, so you won't need it. Rustproofing is an interesting topic. I personally highly recommend rustproofing, BUT EVs and hybrids use HV wires. The system checks these wires for electrical leakage every time the vehicle is turned on. This is known as isolation resistance. If the solvents in the rustproofing cause those wires to expand their insulation and this causes a fault, then it wouldn't be covered under warranty. It's not a huge deal, and I haven't seen this happen yet on any customers' cars that are heavily rustproofed.
@ many thanks for taking the time to answer, I appreciate very much, and learning at the same time. Just one more question, is that true that we need absolutely aluminum mags for EV vehicles or we can do it with normal steel wheels? It's controversial issue because most of vendors discourage people to go for cheap steel rims, but why??
@Monsieur-Estrada steel rims work just fine. However some steel rims do not fit around the calipers on some vehicles. You will have to test fit the rim before purchase.
We have a 2015 Equinox (ICE, of course) which our sons each respectively took to college and the younger one still has it after graduation. He loves it. We also have an '18 Trax (again, ICE). Both drive extremely well and, if we were to get an EV, it looks like the Equinox is probably what we would get.--especially since it's in the same price class as the ICE version. Thanks for the review.
I have seem many reviewers makit the same mistake with auto popping handled. You DO NOT have to pull twice. Its by design. When you approach, handle pops out and when you put your hand behind the handle, it unlcoks the car. You dont have to pulss twice. Just once after it unlocks it ( by you putting your hand behind the handle)
@Abevlife more of a comment than a mistake. It's slow to respond and should just unlock the doors when you approach. Just something I noticed and did not enjoy.
@@livewirereview understand. It's by design. Some people like it, some don't. I am okay if it doesn't unlock as it pops out as if I am passing by the car, I don't want it to unlock. But it does not need to be pulled twice. Just need to wait a fraction of a second before pulling the handle.
Good job reviewing. I really like the way you go through the vehicle. Your quite different than most all. The regen is important to me. You could cover that more.
@vinsonhelton7141 thanks for the idea, I will! The Equinox uses a blended or simulated brake pedal like a lot of other EVs, so you get regen first, then friction brakes. It blends well and stops very smoothly. There is a small paddle for max regen on the steering wheel like the kona. I'm not sure why you would want this, but it's there. You can set regen levels and there is one pedal braking. The one pedal braking works quite well, and I used both during my time with it.
@livewirereview Thank you I use full regen if there are levels all the time except when the road is either puddling heavy from rain or is slick then I turn off regen and use the paddle at times I think I can. Also when using regen fully if I need a little more regen because I'm overshooting a little some vehicles will regen a little more using the paddle with regen already fully on.

We have both, a Tesla model Y and a 2024 Equinox EV. While they both have their pros and cons; I like the Equinox EV better. @lashlarue59 they do both have pros and cons, but both have a heat pump. The Tesla is far easier to road trip but the integration of Google maps with the charge % at arrival is a big step for the Equinox EV.
@@livewirereview Yep I remember when the lack of a heat pump came to a head with the Nissan Leaf a few years ago. OK, I like the video, great info. Can you show the inverter, high power module and it's outputs and inputs? like where the plugs go to and that? I want to know where the DC/DC converter is, where are it's harnesses and their routing, I only see the option for one single interior 110vAC plug at 150 watts. if it's even equipped. it looks like there's plenty of space to install an inverter in the 2000W class like you could in the Bolt, there is even studs with threads on the top of that distribution module. I'd love to see an indepth video on that module.
@allys537 you would be one of the few! The Hyundai/Kia EVs already come with V2L. That might be a better choice. I did try the same though on the Kona. I was worried about overloading the DC to DC converter though so I only installed a 1200w inverter.
@dalesophiea for the Equinox there was a power bump. For the Blazer it was a black roof option, midnight package and small changes to the the LT trim packages. Not much different. If you can get an end of year deal, go for the 24.
Impressive review and impressive vehicle, better than I expected. I am a bolt EV owner can't wait to see the new / refreshed Bolt, I'm afraid it's going to be more like euv than EV tho.
Kona $33,500 you could attribute some of that higher price to the additional cost of a heat pump. Not only manufacturer cost but market pricing. If they made bolt with faster charging speed, heat pump pretty soft interior, big wheels why would they sell it at 30k, it's in a different category
@soyouwanttodowhatido007 that is explained in the undercar section. Just a slight power bump for 2025 and some tweaks to the trim packages. Nothing more.
@guyg2005 I have a model 3 myself. The last model Y I drove was a 2023 with the comfort suspension. The Y has a very sporty and stiff suspension. The Equinox EV drives squishy like an ICE Equinox. It's a very familiar large GM crossover feel when it hits bumps. But they are absorbed very well. There is nothing sporty about it at all.
No I don't believe they do. The Cadillac is likely to have dual-pane glass, but they change a few things other than that. The Cadillac will be rear biased whereas this is front biased with cheaper materials. Fairly normal for GM. The AWD won't be much different except for more traction, less range and a bit quicker.
@@livewirereview - The Optiq might be a wise choice if you're spending $50K +. But it lacks a rear wiper. The 2026 Ioniq 5 will gain a wiper with a better range. The same is true with the smaller Rivian model, R3/x and R2.
3 years supercruise included and 8 years maps…. Need to correct that in your review , exept for that great review. Since you went under would of like to know if it was 4 wheels disc brakes
@Alan-dl2ct thank you for this! Yes it does have 4 wheel disc. I did mention 2 piston front and 1 piston rear. Only the VW EVs have rear drum from what I've seen so far.
@@petertruong8611 agreed. But after getting used to other cars with much faster processing time to unlock the doors, this seems unnecessarily slow to respond.
Yeah I noticed the wind noise too heh. Hopefully they switch to double pane on the front windows at least in the next model year. Quite enjoying our blue equinox so far otherwise. The powertrain is so buttery smooth.
@ 12:45 I figured this out. You dont have to pull twice you need to wait a sec there is a sensor for your hand on the handle then it unlocks then you open.
I have test drove both the FWD and AWD. The AWD is quicker. You can get 19 inch wheels on the lower trims. I would recommend getting the 19 inch. I believe Google maps is included for 8 years but other apps are just 3 years. I haven't seen the pricing for the subscription. We have been driving evs for 7 years and the equinox is on our short list to replace our ICE car.
@stevenesheim I don't blame you, it's a great car especially for the price! I, too, would recommend the 19-inch wheels. Other reviewers have found that the range was identical at 260 miles with a FWD 21" and an AWD 19" due to the efficiency improvements with the smaller wheels.
You don't have to pull the door handle twice, the door unlocks based on a sensor on the back of the door handle. These sensors are only on the front door handles.
@jbaeza915 almost had this booked with one dealer. I will contact Audi/VW again and request it. I'm intrigued by the fact that the ID4 has drum brakes on the rear!
@livewirereview awesome please let me know which you prefer between the 2024 Volkswagen ID4 vs 2025 Chevy Equinox 2LT. Our company is making us choose and I would really appreciate your opinion.
@jbaeza915 right off the bat, you should probably choose the Equinox. It has Google maps with % on arrival, a better heat pump, and a bigger battery, which means more range.
How long do modern EV batteries tend to last? Like what sort of percent decrease in total capacity can you expect every year, average? Someone asked me recently - if you take great care of a combustion engine car, it typically will last 20+ years, and can do all the same tricks as before pretty much. EV batteries degrade though, so if I had one for 20 years, it's like the gas tank will have shrunk. But by roughly how much?
Doesnt really matter. in 20 years. there will me a metric assload of used batteries on the market simply from people who got in a fender bender and the insurance company totaled the car.
@FraserGoodTimes 10-15 years average but can last longer. 70% capacity is when they are removed and then used for grid storage. You'll lose 5% the first year (unless degradation is hidden like in this one and the Hyundai/Kia products). Then it's around 1-2% per year after. At 90% capacity, the degradation slows to a crawl, and the battery spends most of its life there.
@@livewirereview Oops. Not sure why my comment in on here that is odd. I was commenting to a video where I saw a guy in a EV waiting in the parking lot of a beer store and it was closed.
@6:54 - I spy what looks to me like a traditional car battery on your right there... Am I correct? If so, why do EVs still have traditional car batteries if they don't have any engine to start?
@FraserGoodTimes all of the low voltage electronics still run at 12v. Only the Cybertruck at the moment runs a 48v system. This would be the radio, doors, windows, turning on the relays for the PRA, and much more. There is a circuit that turns the high voltage DC power to low voltage DC power to run these things, and it charges the 12v battery like an alternator in an ICE vehicle.
@27:56 - A car feature requiring a subscription!?!? I mean I've heard of this but I'm still outraged. That said... how much? Same with the Google maps thing.
@FraserGoodTimes you'll have to check with your salesperson at GM for that one! But OnStar, Google maps and Supercruise is a lot to pay for separately lol.
Has anyone charged an Equinox to 100%? Does anyone have a sample of ranges you could give me? I leased a Kia EV6 RWD and i am getting 365 to 385 miles of range from a 48 amp charger charging at 9.4 kWh of power using an Emporia Charger that is hardwired with Wirenco 6/2 Metal Clad wire. (52') This also has a 77 watt amp battery with a charge system of 800 volts.
He's talking about the 2025 Equinox EV but he's showing the 2024. The 2025 looks totally different and it's bigger. In my opinion they totally ruined the looks of it in 2025 with the frontend looking very boxy with a huge grill which makes the car look like just another SUV.
@@livewirereviewYou are right and I was wrong! About two weeks ago I bought my wife a 2024 Equinox EV and we are very happy with it. So I was thinking about buying another one for myself so I contacted the dealer and he started sending me pictures of the 2025's and I didn't like the looks of them so I told them no. When you responded to me it got me thinking so I checked and the dealer was sending me pictures and spec sheets of the 2025 Equinox NOT the Equinox EV. They aren't available here yet. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!!! I can't believe I made a dumb mistake like that but having two very different cars with the same name didn't help.
@lashlarue59 haha, yeah, that sounds like salesmen! This car is totally different because it's on the ultium platform. They only share a name, not much else with the ICE version. 😁
Don't forget to mention the plastic pieces on back doors - this is the most unattractive part for me. If you do soft on the front doors why to keep hard plastic on the rear?? Sounds like a robbery to me. Even Korean makers doesn't do that. This is why I'm not getting this car.

The Model Y bests the Equinox in every category except the suspension. The suspension on the Equinox feels really nice. That's the problem with the mass-produced Teslas. They have to have a firm suspension to handle the abundance of power, and the air or magnetic ride they need is too costly/complex to keep them at a high volume price point.
@@livewirereview I agree. It's definitely a step in the right direction for GM. I thought about waiting for the Cadillac version (Optiq) instead of buying my Model Y. There's a lot to like about the Caddy as it solves some of the cosmetic and features issues I have with the Chevy. It's a roomy, solid ride, no doubt, but I don't regret putting another anonymous Y on the road. It has outperformed my expectations.
@@ivanguerini995 Sorry, but the Tesla Y is objectively better in nearly every way. With the latest version of FSD, GM is even more outclassed technologically than it was when I made this post. There's a very good reason the Tesla Model Y became the best-selling vehicle in the world, which is absolutely amazing considering the price point. It's probably the best per dollar production vehicle ever made.

Kona $33,500 you could attribute some of that higher price to the additional cost of a heat pump.
Not only manufacturer cost but market pricing.
If they made bolt with faster charging speed, heat pump pretty soft interior, big wheels why would they sell it at 30k, it's in a different category
@@rp9674 I'm just glad GM is offering EVs at a great price point. That will get more people into them.
good review but what is the difference between the two years
@soyouwanttodowhatido007 that is explained in the undercar section. Just a slight power bump for 2025 and some tweaks to the trim packages. Nothing more.
@@livewirereview cool
How does it compare to your Y? Which year Y do you have? I have a 2022 Y without the comfort ride so mine has a firmer ride.
Excellent review!
You should also drive and review the AWD version. Do the more expensive versions have dual-pain glass?
The 2LT version has 19" wheels.
Yes and in some testing the Fwd with 21" wheels matched the Awd with 19" wheels because of the difference they make in range. 19" is a good choice. 👍
You don't have to pull the handle twice. You just need to touch the handle for a few sec for it to unlock the doors.
@@iNFECTED_pIE so smooth! And those squishy bumps! Double pane usually fixes most noise.
Maybe they should go double pane with upscale trims to keep the base cheap
@@rp9674 they have single pane windows in the Equinox EV. That's the first thing I checked 😅.
Hey Guys
How long does it take to fully charge using regular 120 volt wall outlet?
Lets say from 20% to 100%

Sounds great!
@ 12:45 I figured this out. You dont have to pull twice you need to wait a sec there is a sensor for your hand on the handle then it unlocks then you open.
@JohnnyChronic18 Yes. But it's very slow to respond. Other cars unlock instantly.

This EV6 has a 77 kWh battery pack with an 800 volt system and can also function as a generator with a 110v plug accessory into the charge port.
@@bobo-is-great the EV6 does, yes. But this is the Equinox EV. Should I borrow the EV6 next and do a review?
Prefer GM
Cheaper tires for 19-inch, presumably
Pretty good review
You don't have to pull the door handle twice, the door unlocks based on a sensor on the back of the door handle. These sensors are only on the front door handles.

Have u tested a Volkswagen ID4 ?
@jbaeza915 almost had this booked with one dealer. I will contact Audi/VW again and request it. I'm intrigued by the fact that the ID4 has drum brakes on the rear!
@livewirereview awesome please let me know which you prefer between the 2024 Volkswagen ID4 vs 2025 Chevy Equinox 2LT. Our company is making us choose and I would really appreciate your opinion.
@jbaeza915 right off the bat, you should probably choose the Equinox. It has Google maps with % on arrival, a better heat pump, and a bigger battery, which means more range.
@@livewirereview thank you boss. I appreciate it
How long do modern EV batteries tend to last?
You should expect 200,000 to 400,000 out of a EV Battery.
In the next couple of years we’ll see million mile batteries.
@dennisknehans3206 Yes, this is accurate. A lot of large batteries go over 600,000km.
Really like it but the charging rate is disappointing.
@nevercontact agreed. I prefer 20 to 25 minute charge stops.

2024
Has anyone charged an Equinox to 100%? Does anyone have a sample of ranges you could give me? I leased a Kia EV6 RWD and i am getting 365 to 385 miles of range from a 48 amp charger charging at 9.4 kWh of power using an Emporia Charger that is hardwired with Wirenco 6/2 Metal Clad wire. (52') This also has a 77 watt amp battery with a charge system of 800 volts.
@@bobo-is-great the Equinox EV showed 541km at 100% but is rated for 513km.
He's talking about the 2025 Equinox EV but he's showing the 2024. The 2025 looks totally different and it's bigger. In my opinion they totally ruined the looks of it in 2025 with the frontend looking very boxy with a huge grill which makes the car look like just another SUV.
@@lashlarue59 are you referring to the Blazer EV by any chance? The Equinox EV changes very little for 2025, just 2 trims and a slight bump in power.

@kenhiett5266 I prefer the model Y myself especially for ease of travel from A to B but this Equinox is really big inside. I like it!
@kenhiett5266 I love getting back in my model 3 every time I return a car. Only car I've enjoyed for almost 4 years without getting bored of it.
Why worry about this Tesla owners ?? Hehe this is way better
