  • I found a cabin miles from anywhere or anything, deep in the heart of grizzly country, and stayed there all alone. It was amazing. I hiked up above the cabin and had some heart pounding encounters with the wildlife. So join me for a little adventure in this little slice of heaven on earth.

This reminds me of my grandpas cabin, he built it in the 60s in Northern British Columbia, at one point at had a running shower and a heat exchanger made from copper that would heat the water using the wood stove, kerosene lamps too light it and guns hung up all over the wall, he had a garden because the area was very fertile from a previous volcano eruption so the vegetables were massive. Remember walking out from there to go to a logging camp for groceries and seeing sign from grizzlies, made your hair stand up.

@@RyanThayne unfortunately after he died there was a problem with the estate and someone that he thought he would trust, ended up taking everything, it was unfortunate because he had a gem of a property, they never cared about it and it fell into disarray, I don’t think the cabin is even standing anymore, been about 14 years now since he went.

Okay Joe-in the woods, intentions are in the right place, but in environments new and intimidating such as this, your fears will get the best of you, mostly for no reason. Be open and accepting to new experiences, which in most cases will become a really good adventure! “dirty hippies” as you seem to look down on, or any other people for that matter, are just people with a different perspective. That’s all. In my experiences around this planet, I have taken away many more good experiences with what I knew was not like me, than the what was familiar. Open up and take in the unfamiliar. You will grow for the better. Trust me.

Now go live that way for 25 years. Yes, in the greater Yellowstone area so I am comparing apples to apples here.... There's no need for curtains where there is nothing but wildlife going to peek in. We also had no tv, radio, internet service for the first 10 years and only wood heat. After the first few weeks ( and NO CAMERA to be constantly talking to for companionship) I can tell you that your entire mind changes. The silence alone will drive some people bat shit crazy within a couple of days. The moose and bears become your "companionship" and not some terrifying adversary. Everything changes. Your body adjusts to the life or you truly do go quite mad. Good that you tried this life and shared with people. Perhaps they can make a much better judgement call before moving to the area and thinking that they will then CHANGE it to meet their own needs. Nature doesn't work that way. The weather alone up in this area will break that notion very very quickly. Winter lasts 9 months of the year and we have had snow hit us every single month of the year.

@@RyanThayne Gawd I love Montana. 1st time I saw a Bald Eagle in the wild and Wild Horses running along side me.
Years later and our Bald Eagles have made a full comeback here in Commiefornia. Montana will always have a special place in my heart though

In 2016, this cabin was $20/night (I stayed for 4 nights). When you stayed a few months ago it was $65. It is now $73. That is ridiculous.

I've been hiking in grizzly country for 40 years. There are always grizzly bears around. Rather than never go hiking, its best to hike as safely and cautiously as possible. Just like driving a car comes with risk. Thanks for watching!
