I have watched this so many times. There are “prettier” versions, but this is just a standout. “What’s natural comes hard” hits me hard when you hear how different it is from Stritch’s usual delivery. I adore this so much.

This is a new one for me. What a sweet interpretation of the song. Thanks for this.

That's alright, no one is expected to be up on _every_ natural disaster of the last 50 years

I wonder how many more treasures like this were overlooked while the production team hunted through the archives for another performance from WSS. Why have Michael Ball and Matt Monro’s performance of Maria when you could have had neither.

Yes, it was a very poor selection that didn't even take into account that they aired the WSS documentary yesterday, and are airing the movie tomorrow. And I know they have rarer material to pull from. Ah, well.

You'reGonnaLoveTomorrow I think rights are a big problem. BBC orchestras come cheap or free. Anything else has to be paid for. BBC4 has no budget.

@@tessakulik6710 it’s from the BBC archive so I can’t imagine they’d need to pay anything. The Beeb pays an annual fee for music rights, or it did - has that changed?

The prom can be repeated as it's the BBC Concert Orchestra. My friend who used to work in the rights department said Judi Dench is (relatively) expensive! They would have loved to repeat any number of treasures, but too expensive, BBC4 is always being threatened with closure to save money.
