    I know nothing about all the technical stuff, but I really can't believe there are so many people in the comments saying she has 'no artistry' or 'just doesn't look elegant'...WTF?! I found this GORGEOUS to look at; her movements are graceful and effortless, fit the music perfectly, and she exudes so much pure JOY! Also, people saying the choreography/performance looked 'immature' ... really? She was a tiny, very young-looking FIFTEEN year old, literally a child, and thankfully her choice of music, costume and choreography reflected that. From an artistic perspective, it was a wise decision to take her age and looks into account. Children trying to act like 25-year-old divas always end up looking ridiculous and uncomfortable, no matter how talented they are.

      @@elizabethhurley1129 absolutely Tara did. A 3lo + 3lo + a 3fl + 1/2 fl + 3sc. And her last jump passage was a combination. Plus everything else was Olympic Gold rightfully earned. And how to win. And Tara wouldn't be upset at negative comments. She knows she had that conditioning and fire and Olympic gold dream. And the programmed packages.

The music choice, the energy, the pizzazz, the precision and gracefulness... absolutely worthy of the Gold. she deserved to win this year ! Tara technically was far superior to Michelle kwan. she decided to take the most difficult way (triple triple combinations- steps sequences in the both ways- two triple at the end of her long program) and that energy that smile : she had the speed of a will-o'-the-wisp, nothing seemed to stop her, she was going to the right, to the left, in all directions, giving artistic vertigo. the judges were not mistaken in giving her the golden medal 🥇 it was her one moment in time !

      @damianlee5438 3 года назад +1

      @@markhayes2003 and were of lower quality (height, distance, speed into and out of them).
      For reference, the previous year at World's Tara also had the more difficult jump content but lower quality and higher quantity (7 triples completes compared to Kwan's 6) yet Michelle won that portion of the event with 1 less triple based on technical merit alone, no need to tie break with the presentation mark. Did Tara's jumps get that much better in a single year?
      No. They didn't. While I may complain and say that there is a very realistic argument that could be made for Michelle being robbed of the gold, in hindsight I don't really care. I got 7 more wonderful seasons and 7 more National Titles and 4 more World Titles for Michelle out of it, AND another Olympic medal too.
      Michelle went on to become a legend. If she had won in 1998 we might not have gotten that.
      And Tara finally blossomed artistically after she went pro.
      Sounds like a win-win to me

    She won the short program. Kwan's program was stunning but technically not nearly as difficult. Tara's combination was harder and Kwan cowardly opted for a toe loop instead of a flip as her second jump. Whenever the skater ends up doing a flutz instead of a planned lutz jump, the base mark must appropriately be put as a flip combination. This must be done or either a deduction for wrong edge. That is why Lipinski should have been marked for a flip combination. In today's figure skating CoP, those who flutz must be given credit points only worth a flip, and NOT the full flip credit either because they aimed to do a lutz and listed it as a lutz.
