This is some of the best footage of Kwan's famous inside to outside edge spiral. American coverage would usually do a close up of her face before she was even half way through the element and you would lose the overall perspective of her beautiful position and most importantly the steady glide of her blade across the ice. Here you can see it in all its glory!
This is still the best musical piece ever chosen for a program.. Just perfect for skating... and perfectly done by Michelle. Should have kept the Flip but wonderful program nonetheless. Interesting her triple lutz had so much spring during this season.
She should not have even won the technical program, let alone the competition. Tara had a harder combination and she didn't cowardly choose a triple toe loop as her single jump. She got outskated in the long program by a mile too. Michelle earned a silver medal, she didn't deserve anything more at this competition. She was gifted the technical program.
Out of comfort and familiarity I guess; even with the injured left toe. She did say in one of her past interviews that she always had trouble controling the triple flip, which is consistent if you look at her entire career. When she made mistakes she always fell or doubled or singled out on either the loop or the flip.
I am going to nitpick and say that she should have kept the flip as the solo jump instead of the toe loop. I think the judges marked her down for that because they knew she could do it.
But it didn't matter in the scoring under 6.0. The only thing that mattered was that she was in first place. And a lot of people would have liked to have that "plague," if that's what it was!
She wasn't marked down, she was unfairly marked up on the technical mark. How her marks were higher than Tara Lipinski's still baffles me. Her combination was easier and so was her toe loop. She killed the artistic portion on this night but she should not have been first. Only the French judge got it right that night.
Tbh she's never done a true 3Z, the best she's managed was a "!" where she takes off on a flat. She often would flip to the inside edge, especially later in her career. In the LP 99% of the time her 2nd 3Z out of footwork was a flutz.
Of course it was only the French judge that put her in second. The French judges are notorious for foul play, like at the 2002 Olympics. Time to remove the French from the judges panel
one of my all time fav programs from here. I did notice the change from the flip to the toe loop. Not entirely sure why she changed it. Leading up to this she was landing the flip with no problems. Also, im pretty sure the music isnt Piano Concerto N3.
Hi. You are right that the first half music is a piano trio No.2 performed by Borodin Trio. But remaining is Piano concerto No.3 with André Watts' piano.
It is the Rach3 in the second half. The first part is a Rach piano trio. A beautifully choreographed and executed program but can I be a little shallow and say I don't like her dress? It looks like a bathing suit.
She did the 3F only at US Nationals because her left toe was still very sore. I think in Nagano she went back to the 3T to be more conservative and she still won the SP.
@@skatefan9495 I totally agree, I was thinking the dress wasn't up to par with a mature skater, would've looked better if the entire dress was the solid red color! The pink part looks a little tacky.. sorry Michelle if you read these things..
Tara did a more difficult program for the short and should have been in 1st place afterwards going into the free program. Kwan favoritism that's all this is.
tara had a clear inside edge on the lutz, too much prerotation on the flip and a non academic axel. i don t share your opinion at all. for me tara should have finished 3rd at best in the short. kwan and butyrskaya were way better.
Cant compare Tara to Michelle..one is a kid..the other a woman. This Is a Womans Figure Skate..Michelle has the maturity and years of experiance and it shows.Tara is still like a Jr ..she also has no hight in her jumps..she is using a rollar skating technique. No comparison to Michelle..
I remember this like it was yesterday!
A non-doping Olympics and women's skating was a joy to watch !

Sasha Cohn had the best spiral ever .
Looks pretty from the front too tho, like in the American news coverage
Sasha's aura isn't as much into the emotional experience and spirit of the music.
Sasha's aura is more, look at me, I'm showing off.
She skated with such precision, and also such joy!!
1:45あたりからの切り替わりとスパイラルがとても好きです。今のプログラムからみたらシンプルなのかもしれませんが、このプログラムは20年経った今でも忘れられません。
Michelle Kwan is one of my favorite female US Ice Skaters ever
このプログラム、何年経っても大好きでリピートして観ています。
ありがとうございます!
Her choreography was always so emotional and spot on with the music.
Just another master class in how to interpret the music while skating ⛸. Just Chen Lu.
A good presentation and technical precision. No stroke is executed without care.
こんな綺麗なスパイラル見せてくれるスケーターいるかなぁ
マジで感動 最高
This still hurts
懐かしい感じ。表現力が素晴らしい演技構成。
triple lutz double toe combination. tiripple flip very difficult and she also has a nice triple axel
Triple Axel ?????? Triple flip ????? What are you talking about pfffffff
браво браво классно супер
BRAVO BRAVO PERFECT PERFORMANCE WOW AMAZING GODBLESS PEACE AND LOVE ALWAYS TO YOU AND YOURS MY FRIEND.😄...(*8*)

Lol I wonder why couldn't the ill-proportioned jumping bean be gifted the short program?

Jose Hill
They didn't mark her down. She was first after the short program.
idolfan9495 they did. Her first mark was lower than the 2nd. That would plague her throughout her career.
But it didn't matter in the scoring under 6.0. The only thing that mattered was that she was in first place. And a lot of people would have liked to have that "plague," if that's what it was!

Perfect triple lutz.....texts books perfection edge.....💗
1:00 and put it on 0.25 speed, as she place her toe, the edge got inside
She is a known flutzer, not even close to a 'perfect' 3Lz
How could this be called perfect. So obvious flutz

Should have marked higher just in artistry alone. Way more mature skater than Tara
Michelle all the way
Best skater of our time, even a little more for me than Yuna Kim!
Mark W. Michelle is incomparable!

ダブル金メダルも…なんて思った

5.8 and 6.0
She should of won!!!
She's always been solid but never brilliant. She executes the moves competently but she lacks fire. It's the fire that wins Olympic gold.
5.7/6.0
She always does the most simple jump out of all six..the toe loops.
Only from 1996-1999. She did the Triple Flip as her solo jump in the SP at 1995 Worlds and from 2000 Worlds to her final competitive season in 2005.
@Jeb Clem Kristi Yamaguchi dislikes this comment
@Jeb Clar Toe-loop is easier, it has the lowest base value in today's system too. It's toe assisted unlike the Salchow which is an edge jump
Only a 3T
yep but clear 3T, a correct lutz and a superb choreography....tara had a flutz, a too much prerotated flip and a non academic axel
5.5/5.8
この時は好きだけど、ソルトレイクぐらいの時はドヤ勝負みたいなっててあんまだったなあ、
