"Because whoever design this ship is drunk" It had a reason. Back in the 1919 and 1920 when this ship was designed Oil fired boiler technology was still in its infancy. The Royal around that time was still traumatized by the loss of 3 battlecruisers during the battle of Jutland. So they wanted to build Fast Battleships. The problem was that back then boilers weren't efficient and if you wanted to go fast you have to dump a huge number of them. This is why HMS Hood is so long with an engine output of 150,000 SHP (Comparable to Yamato built 20 years later) But the large space for the engine room needed a lot of armor to protect it and all that weight would slow down the ship. It's like a vicious circle. Bigger Engine > More Space > More Armor > More Weight > Bigger Engine > etc. To circumvent this problem the Naval designers decided to group all the gun turrets in one spot of the hull and concentrate the armor over the magazine in a shorter portion of the hull. The Engine and Boiler rooms would be concentrated in the aft section of the hull and that required less armor since engines don't make a ship disappear when hit. This all looked good on paper but in practice it had undesired side-effect like HMS Nelson being nearly unsteerable at slow speeds with strong cross winds. It was a nightmare navigating HMS Nelson in port because her superstructure located far aft of the hull acted like a sail and made the vessel "Fishtail". Second more subtle is flooding damage. Since the majority of armor and mass is concentrated in the forward half of the hull counter flooding will be nightmare especially when the bow gets torpedo damage. For every compartment flooded at the bow you need to flood two or tree compartments at the stern to level the ship. This concentration of guns in one section of the hull was abandoned by every major navy by the 1930s except for France with the Dunkerque and Richelieu.
@@Arthion That's true. The French WW2 Battleships are some of the finest but even they abandoned the all forward armament system starting with Gascogne and later the Alsace when the London Naval Treaty was thrown out the window, which is a good indication that even the French weren't completely satisfied with it. The weight saving benefit by grouping all your main weapons in one area of the hull seems to be more trouble than it's worth.
@@twinkyoctopus This is our cynical and cautious mindset of 2022 speaking. The British at that time couldn't accept the idea that what happened to the German battlecruiser Goeben in 1914 could ever happen to one of their ships.
I mean, if you think about it most engagements would be done broadside so it wouldn't be as big as an issue as in-game. Sucks that the secondary guns ain't all that, was hoping they would be pretty good with how many there are.

This boat looks pretty fun, and not just because I'm a complete sucker for the memey goodness that is Incomparable. While the guns look pretty sketch and I'd really like to see how the torps actually work, this looks like a line I'll definitely prioritize over the French supercruisers and Italian DDs (and of course, the carriers. My god the carriers) Definitely not paying cash for it though.
Time for Wargaming to bring these underwater torpedoes to other ships...which actually had them in real life. Looking at the Nelson in particular (whose sister?(brother) ship, Rodney actually used her torpedoes IRL ... during the Battle of the Denmark Strait). They don't have to be nuclear tipped like St. Vincent .. and probably would rarely be used (takes a while for Nelson to close the gap to other ships)...but come on.
Sister, most warships were refered to as female, which is funny because for the longest time having women on a ship was considered bad luck. Would be pretty cool to see, but it's more likely they would make Rodney as a new ship and have that as her gimmick.
I know that this question is not strictly connected to this video, but Bou, do you know what happened to the other tier 10 british BC, the Saint Lawrence, I saw it in randnoms some time ago.

To be fair that ship should hunt cruisers in real. So you dont need guns aft. Because a cruiser will always run away from you and you run from BBs. Now you also know why the BC was a dead end. Because a fast BB could do the same and was armored compared to a BC.
Well, to be fair the last few battlecruiser designs are essentially fast battleships in disguise. The G3 and I3 like this is has like a 14"/356mm armor belt which is pretty significant for her time-period.
