This series became one of my top 3 of all time tbh. Watching ep 1 again hits even harder when you have all the context to Himmel's speech during the star shower. He says something along the lines of "In all my beautiful memories, you were always there." S tier character, hopefully we get a second season because the upcoming arcs are straight up heat.
She also can absorb spells and attack while using defensive spell, it's rare for a mage to be able to do that I think. So she has special ability among other test taker.
Also, we know Methode is going to pass. She has been set up since the recent episodes. Among the examinees, she's one of those who wasn't shown to have been overwhelmed by their weakness (if she even has one). Also we saw from her are feats. I even think Richter would've passed if he didn't fail the second exam.

Looking back at episode 1, the last memories she recall from him was this phrase "tearful goodbyes aren't our style... It would be embarrassing when we met again" while she started to cry.
not sure if you guys noticed but Ehre, the girl Fern beat in first stage, her grandpa is the first class mage Lernen with the golems. they show that for half a second. This means when Ehre said "It's like fighting my grandfather" when fighting Fern means so much more with the context of who her grandpa is. Fern is truly OP 😁
Yeah they both seem to just spam the basic attack spells to overwhelm their enemy. Also in episode 20 she tells Wirbel that she could introduce them to her Grandfather because hes a first class mage.
Basically what he said, if he was in that era he could of been remembered with the other hero's. Though I think he is forgetting to see the smaller picture in how he's leaving an impact on the world with his Golems and those around him that he can effect.

I love how quirky they make it seem, but if you think about it, it makes perfect sense why Fern picked a spell that cleans her clothes. It's a medieval world without washing machines, and they're on the road a lot. Cleaning clothes must be a tedious, time-consuming process. Fern, having been raised by Frieren for more than half her life, knows better than anyone to not waste time. So she picked a spell to match, from the person who could give her insanely strong spells.
clean socks. we may take it for granted nowadays but traveling in a medieval era with clean socks is a luxury also in war. trench foot killed a lot of people
And to add to denken, he genuinely love magic, just like frieren. He join this exam only wanting to get pass to the north and ended up reignited his passion for magic because of someone he admired for a longtime.
To be honest, Methode is a pretty versatile mage. Besides being adept at combat magic and counterattacks simultaneously (in dungeons), she can also perform mental control magic when Denken asks who can. Moreover, she can use wide-range detection magic to track cloned individuals in dungeons, and most importantly, she possesses goddess magic to heal injured examiners, something none of the other mages can do. She must be a genius in every aspect. So, during the interview with Serie, she was completely unfazed by Serie's immense magical pressure, only thinking about how cute Serie was, almost to the point of wanting to hug and kiss her. Thus, she passed the interview...😂
I believe Frieren is able to do basic healing, she was definitely carrying around that goddess gospel required for that (using it as a coaster for her pot lmao). Additionally Methode was able to not only detect but also hold out against Fern who is known to be rather overwhelming in her offense. We haven't really seen much of her but I trust Series intuition. She definitely got talent.
@@HansWurst-lg1ws Not sure if Frieren can use healing magic as she only used the tome to "identify illness" in the anime and I can't remember if she used it again in the manga. Also she technically wouldn't have to go to the church to heal her shoulder in this episode if she had basic healing.
It seems she was also able to fight and withstand Ferns clone in the dungeon who had all her power. For me, she´s one of the most underated characters in the show.
She can assume control of enemy's attack that touched her ward spell while defending right? Isn't it rare ability in this show to be able to attack while casting defensive spell?
Serie is probably one of the most realistic tsunderes in anime, and she's a millenia-old Elven mage, not some high school girl. The characters in this show are honestly incredible

Anyone who does labor would appreciate spells like laundry spells, spells than clean kitchenware, spells that can help in farms, etc. Considering that they're living in a peaceful era, battle spells would be pretty useless considering that mages are already pretty strong and they can take care of threats such as bandits.
I cant remember where i heard it, but in response to the line "death is not the only goodbye" someone brought up the phrase, "we all die twice, first our physical death, and later we die againthe last time someone remembers us."
I mentioned this moment many episodes ago when you brought it up about the quick goodbyes and I was waiting for you guys to watch this very episode. You are 100% spot on with how this show handles things, if it seems a little off or left unanswered there is probably a reason for that later down the line that will get explained. I think that's something this show handled really well, it played a fine balance between outright telling us things and letting things play out naturally for us to find out later and the way the show ended really fits the style of the show, lots of things left to explore next season and our group have gone and left an impact on yet another town. With Stark the Hero doing his daily duty to help people and Fern and Friren both leaving an impact on the other mages. The amount of love and work that went into this first season, I pray that someone holds Madhouse hostage for them to make season two or one of the legendary studios picks up season two soon. It's not often you see a show with this amount of detail and attention, lots of hand animated scenes and battles and the flow of everything felt perfect. I also really enjoyed your reaction to the series, personally the best I've watched so far, super fun, picked up on details, made those connections and talked about things and had fun with it and got emotionally invested. Made for a great watch and earned you my sub along the way. Cant wait to see what you move onto next.
I don't understand why but somehow, I also felt legit glad that these side characters passed the test. Such great character writings with short amount of screentime
It makes sense for Fern to request a practical everyday spell instead of a killing spell. Her master told her that "basic offensive magic" is enough for the mages of this era after all.
I love how the ending is almost like a meta goodbye to us by also fitting directly into the story. There's no big climax or epic battle sequence, it's just a simple "the end of one journey, the beginning of another". Along with the promise that we will see this show again in the future. But for now, we're to enjoy the journey we've been on with these characters. Love it!
the show really highlights the beauty of impermanence and the concept of the subjectivity of time like few others ("only lovers left alive" is the other best example in my opinion), really deep and complicated concepts made easy and enjoyable for everybody. all packaged with beautiful storytelling and characters.
I feel like the Landry,mold,and oil stain spell aren't actually called legendary friren just calls them that because of how legendarally convenient it is
Great series reactions, just wanted to point out that Frieren mentions Legendary spells in the first few episodes when referring to spells that remove oil stains & spells that make grapes tase more sour. Thats what Fern was taught to believe a legendary spell is
I didn't expect to like this show as much as I did. It's become my number 1 favorite~! This show touched my heart, they did just about everything flawlessly.
there are so many details in the animation; even in frieren's fight with denken during the first test, you could see that frieren's shield spell disappears really quickly as soon as it absorbs an impact. Denken's shield on the other hand lasts a few frames longer. more reason that frieren is a really efficient mage.
Serie: "As promised, Fern, I will grant you any spell that you wish to reward you for your efforts in becoming a First Class mage. Among my grimoires I have nearly all spells ever imagined and quite a few that haven't been imagined yet. If you want to go so far as to change the very rules of this world, I will gladly provide the tool to change them. So. Ask." Fern: (after a contemplative moment) "Do you have any incarnations that can remove tough stains from clothing, making them smell new and clean?" Serie: "...yyyyes?" (beat) "Oh, don't you dare."
Denkin visiting the grave is an entire arc. One of the best arcs in the series so far. It's way more than you can imagine. And all the mages who passed are important in later arcs. Even some of the ones who failed the third test are utilized later as subordinates of a first class mage.
I didn't even get that emotional during the actual last episode, but when the end credits started and the beautiful ending song kicked in, I started crying like a baby. It was a mixture of sadness, because it was over and of happiness, because I was able to witness this fantastic show ❤
such a good and beautiful show. S tier easily. really excited to see this continue (hopefully it is?) I think this is one of my favorite shows of all time so far.
IMO I feel the way they got us to connect with the original party was they kinda did it like the opening to UP. We got a lifetime told in minutes. Such an amazing show. There are people that find it boring or has no direction, but sometimes it's nice to slow down, take a breath and assess one's own life. Some criticism I saw was that Freiren was very emotionless, but I think that goes to what Flamme said and to pretty much stay hidden until called upon.
fun little detail: during the second exam we see a doppelganger of all the other mages except for Land bc his physical body never entered the dungeon.. and the reveal that he never even left his hometown~ 😘👌🏼
Frieren doesn't care about Serie's approval, she just wants grimoires and a peaceful era ❤ Frieren is the best anime of all the time for me 💯 🫶 I hope this show will win anime of the year.
I love that you keep comparing 'Frieren' to 'Vinland Saga' and 'Violet Evergarden', because those are the two shows that I would consider closest to it on the level of writing. They all have insanely well flashed out characters and tell stories that convey meaning beyond the mere plot. They chose their setting not just because it is interesting but because it is the best medium for their theme. In Vinland Saga that was how to respond to and deal with violence and a cruel world, in Violet Evergarden it was an exploration of what it means to love (and grief), and Frieren showed us how life will gain in meaning if you treasure the small and maybe insignificant things as well as the big accomplishments, and that you should treasure your memories and hope for the future but live in the present because time doesn't stop and the future will be past much sooner than you expect. To live in the moment, with the past in your heart and your eyes set on the future. At least that's what I took from it. So, yeah, I really loved this show, and I really enjoyed your reactions to it. :) On a funny side note, Land's name didn't really make a lot of sense to me at first since most of the names referre to the person's character or ability, but Land just means "land, country". But I guess he is called "Land" because he never left his home in the countryside, which is just as funny as finding out that he never actually showed up lol.
When Frieren anime ended, it feels like i lost a little part of me, goes away with the end of the series... *YES* This anime is *THAT GOOD* And now that Carlie and Ange's reaction to Frieren ends... That feeling of losing something is back, and it hits kinda hard 🥲🥲🥲 But we know the journey has to end someday, and just like Frieren, Himmel, and the crew's journey... It'll be the one to be *REMEMBERED* 😊

I don't know why I cried especially at the end , I guess that's the beauty of frieren the little details the chill "insignificant" moments that makes this anime ( and life ) beautiful, I'm gonna miss this anime so much, it was such a beautiful journey and I had fun watching you two
Frieren is the only anime for a long time where it got me excited every week again waiting for the next episode. Before, I'm pretty much tired of anime for many years because i've watched so many animes and probably have watched 1000+ of them(i've been watching anime continously for almost 20 years). Especially when almost all of anime are following the same trope over and over again. That's why even popular animes now that alot of people get hyped for like MHA, JJK, solo leveling, chainsaw man, demon slayer, etc. I can't even finish those because of how many generic tropes they have (it make sense though, why change the tropes if it still works right? They still make money doing those tropes) I can't even finish most of anime now i just ended up just watching 2 or 3 episodes i immediately get bored and stop watching. That's why I'm happy that watching frieren somehow made me feel the joy of watching anime again.
If you also notice, when frien meets eisen and heiter and himmel, neither makes a big fuss over seeing themselves again after so many years. So they neither do fussy goodbyes or hello agains.

The End song actually change lyrics a bit compared to the first version during the first cour of the season and it works really well with what's happening with Frieren's development between the cours. I really can't wait for the next season!!
There is a similar line in the second season of an Italian TV Show about Salgari's "Sandokan, the Tiger of Malesia" He was heading for a distant city in India, to reclaim his title. But he stopped in a tiny village of harvesters, that was harassed by bandits, to fight them. When asked why he decided to stop here doing so a futile and risky act for a tiny village and delay the main mission, he answered: "How can I hope to attain great and far deeds, when I fail to help for little and near needs?" So Sandokan was left behind, confronted the whole band, alone, destroyed them and was seriiusly injured. But this act had critical consequencies in the future, without them he would have failed.
1. Lernen made those golem in the flasks though, those "defensive" golem resist both magical + physical attacks (the drilling hair from Sense), are "prototypes" mind you. Imaging those golem attack. (ep 23, 24, 25) 2. Frieren's stone golem on the other hand, is capable of dancing (ep 5) and fighting another Frieren by absorbing and return amplified version of the lightning magic (ep 26). 3. Of course Denken is inspired by Frieren, he said the exact words when Frieren first met Serie: "The greatest joy of magic lies in searching for it." Which implying Denken is a fanboy of Frieren for years to be able to quote her (episode 21). 4. Or course Wirbel love a dark-haired girl with a red scarf around her neck, he's Jean from AOT afterall. 5. While Ehre was fighting Fern, she said "Fighting you felt like fighting my grandfather". True, Lernen spammed amplified Zoltraak to break Frieren's defensive magic shield while Fern spammed ordinary attack spells to force Ehre into defensive mode and draining Ehre's mana (ep20 vs ep26). 6. We see that specific "turn around and walk away" memory from Frieren (ep 1) during Himmel's burial scene. After that memory shot, Frieren cried as she thought they will never meet each other again.

we can see throughout starks journey that he really is going to be as great a hero as himmel was.. everyone around he helps with likes him and appreciates what hes been doing off screen. stark is gonna be the bastard that pulls that sword i tell you!
Frieren is arguably perfect technically in every aspect. It's no surprise that it is rated so highly in MAL and also critically acclaimed, and not forgetting being part of a lot of people's top 10 anime of all time.
Yes, Lernen was the one who made the golems. Sense mentiones it before starting the second exam. Himmel is also my fave 🥹 For me, he is the MVP of this season at least. That says so much given that he isn't alive anymore and all we saw were just recollections of him.
Watching this anime with you guys has been a journey!!🔥🔥 You guys' ability to get hyped at crazy action scenes AND being able to appreciate the slower moments are just one of the main reasons I keep coming back to watch you guys EVERY DANG TIME!💜💜 Also, I remember you guys comparing Violet Evergarden and Frieren as animes that just have a lot of soul - I would also highly highly recommend Natsume Yuujinchou (or Natsume Book of Friends). This anime is simply amazing and simply doesn't get the attention it deserves, but it is widely popular in Japan, like enough for it to get 6 seasons and a movie. It is a slice of life anime that deals with loneliness and social/self-acceptance with a central theme of the ability to see Youkai (supernatural spirits/entities in Japanese folklore). I would absolutely love to see you guys giving this anime a go! 🌸🌸

There is an Omake where Serie asked Genau to tell Methode that she can only caress her for ten minutes per day. Serie can't even talk to her directly. 🤣🤣🤣
Ange is right. The character writing, pacing (for the most part), and payoffs were perfect. Made the eps fly by but meaningful. Some of the flashbacks/payoff scenes were Haikyuu level.

Who are we to question Serie even Frieren doesn't question her when it comes to magic. A little spoiler for Methode-oneesan She's strong have a similarity way of fighting to Frierens.
Currently there are enough chapters to make another 28-episode season (According to logic, the second season could adapt from chapter 61 to 119). For the third, we manga readers are waiting for the end of the hiatus: currently the manga has 130 chapters, I sincerely hope it can resume publication soon. And as a reader of the manga, I am looking forward to the second anime season.
"It would be embarrassing if we meet again". Saddest part is that they would not meet again, not for hundreds, not for thousands of years. Himmel would die and only be a memory to the almost immortal Frieren. Yet Himmel said that, so gently, while looking at Frieren as if to comfort her, maybe implying that they would meet again in the afterlife.
Some fun facts and possible you already aware. Season 2 hasn't been announced, I think it's very likely but not anytime soon. The manga was only 3 years old at the time of the anime starting and not enough material or barely enough to do a season 2 right away. Lernen is actually the grandpa to the girl fern beat in the wirbel group. Also his name in German means to learn. Ubel means bad or evil. Another German word. Serie is very much like frieren, in that she hasn't been able to fully understand her emotions and feelings for people. But she is aware. She just wants to deny it lol. Like Ange surmised. The ending song especially is very telling. And the first one and second one..sound the same but the Lyrics are slightly different. So when or if you guys possibly do a review of the songs. They are different. Himmel words are especially sad/sweet cause she's on her adventure to go meet him again at ende. Since they already explain that. I can't think of anything else.

The dance scene wasn’t rotoscoped. It was hand animated which is very impressive.
Animators are probably stark-fern shippers themselves. Thats why they are so dedicated, almost as dedicated as those who animated Ubel 😂

To be honest, Methode is a pretty versatile mage. Besides being adept at combat magic and counterattacks simultaneously (in dungeons), she can also perform mental control magic when Denken asks who can. Moreover, she can use wide-range detection magic to track cloned individuals in dungeons, and most importantly, she possesses goddess magic to heal injured examiners, something none of the other mages can do. She must be a genius in every aspect. So, during the interview with Serie, she was completely unfazed by Serie's immense magical pressure, only thinking about how cute Serie was, almost to the point of wanting to hug and kiss her. Thus, she passed the interview...😂
I believe Frieren is able to do basic healing, she was definitely carrying around that goddess gospel required for that (using it as a coaster for her pot lmao).
Additionally Methode was able to not only detect but also hold out against Fern who is known to be rather overwhelming in her offense. We haven't really seen much of her but I trust Series intuition. She definitely got talent.

Also she technically wouldn't have to go to the church to heal her shoulder in this episode if she had basic healing.

It seems she was also able to fight and withstand Ferns clone in the dungeon who had all her power. For me, she´s one of the most underated characters in the show.
She can assume control of enemy's attack that touched her ward spell while defending right? Isn't it rare ability in this show to be able to attack while casting defensive spell?

Serie is probably one of the most realistic tsunderes in anime, and she's a millenia-old Elven mage, not some high school girl. The characters in this show are honestly incredible

Land working from home totally caught me off guard and they played it perfectly.
Anyone who does labor would appreciate spells like laundry spells, spells than clean kitchenware, spells that can help in farms, etc.
Considering that they're living in a peaceful era, battle spells would be pretty useless considering that mages are already pretty strong and they can take care of threats such as bandits.
I cant remember where i heard it, but in response to the line "death is not the only goodbye" someone brought up the phrase, "we all die twice, first our physical death, and later we die againthe last time someone remembers us."
I mentioned this moment many episodes ago when you brought it up about the quick goodbyes and I was waiting for you guys to watch this very episode. You are 100% spot on with how this show handles things, if it seems a little off or left unanswered there is probably a reason for that later down the line that will get explained. I think that's something this show handled really well, it played a fine balance between outright telling us things and letting things play out naturally for us to find out later and the way the show ended really fits the style of the show, lots of things left to explore next season and our group have gone and left an impact on yet another town. With Stark the Hero doing his daily duty to help people and Fern and Friren both leaving an impact on the other mages.
The amount of love and work that went into this first season, I pray that someone holds Madhouse hostage for them to make season two or one of the legendary studios picks up season two soon. It's not often you see a show with this amount of detail and attention, lots of hand animated scenes and battles and the flow of everything felt perfect.
I also really enjoyed your reaction to the series, personally the best I've watched so far, super fun, picked up on details, made those connections and talked about things and had fun with it and got emotionally invested. Made for a great watch and earned you my sub along the way. Cant wait to see what you move onto next.

It makes sense for Fern to request a practical everyday spell instead of a killing spell. Her master told her that "basic offensive magic" is enough for the mages of this era after all.
I love how the ending is almost like a meta goodbye to us by also fitting directly into the story. There's no big climax or epic battle sequence, it's just a simple "the end of one journey, the beginning of another". Along with the promise that we will see this show again in the future. But for now, we're to enjoy the journey we've been on with these characters. Love it!
the show really highlights the beauty of impermanence and the concept of the subjectivity of time like few others ("only lovers left alive" is the other best example in my opinion), really deep and complicated concepts made easy and enjoyable for everybody. all packaged with beautiful storytelling and characters.
I feel like the Landry,mold,and oil stain spell aren't actually called legendary friren just calls them that because of how legendarally convenient it is
Great series reactions, just wanted to point out that Frieren mentions Legendary spells in the first few episodes when referring to spells that remove oil stains & spells that make grapes tase more sour. Thats what Fern was taught to believe a legendary spell is

This show touched my heart, they did just about everything flawlessly.
there are so many details in the animation; even in frieren's fight with denken during the first test, you could see that frieren's shield spell disappears really quickly as soon as it absorbs an impact. Denken's shield on the other hand lasts a few frames longer. more reason that frieren is a really efficient mage.
Serie: "As promised, Fern, I will grant you any spell that you wish to reward you for your efforts in becoming a First Class mage. Among my grimoires I have nearly all spells ever imagined and quite a few that haven't been imagined yet. If you want to go so far as to change the very rules of this world, I will gladly provide the tool to change them. So. Ask."
Fern: (after a contemplative moment) "Do you have any incarnations that can remove tough stains from clothing, making them smell new and clean?"
Serie: "...yyyyes?" (beat) "Oh, don't you dare."
Denkin visiting the grave is an entire arc. One of the best arcs in the series so far. It's way more than you can imagine. And all the mages who passed are important in later arcs. Even some of the ones who failed the third test are utilized later as subordinates of a first class mage.

I didn't even get that emotional during the actual last episode, but when the end credits started and the beautiful ending song kicked in, I started crying like a baby. It was a mixture of sadness, because it was over and of happiness, because I was able to witness this fantastic show ❤

I think this is one of my favorite shows of all time so far.
IMO I feel the way they got us to connect with the original party was they kinda did it like the opening to UP. We got a lifetime told in minutes. Such an amazing show. There are people that find it boring or has no direction, but sometimes it's nice to slow down, take a breath and assess one's own life. Some criticism I saw was that Freiren was very emotionless, but I think that goes to what Flamme said and to pretty much stay hidden until called upon.
fun little detail: during the second exam we see a doppelganger of all the other mages except for Land bc his physical body never entered the dungeon.. and the reveal that he never even left his hometown~ 😘👌🏼

I love that you keep comparing 'Frieren' to 'Vinland Saga' and 'Violet Evergarden', because those are the two shows that I would consider closest to it on the level of writing. They all have insanely well flashed out characters and tell stories that convey meaning beyond the mere plot. They chose their setting not just because it is interesting but because it is the best medium for their theme. In Vinland Saga that was how to respond to and deal with violence and a cruel world, in Violet Evergarden it was an exploration of what it means to love (and grief), and Frieren showed us how life will gain in meaning if you treasure the small and maybe insignificant things as well as the big accomplishments, and that you should treasure your memories and hope for the future but live in the present because time doesn't stop and the future will be past much sooner than you expect. To live in the moment, with the past in your heart and your eyes set on the future. At least that's what I took from it.
So, yeah, I really loved this show, and I really enjoyed your reactions to it. :)
On a funny side note, Land's name didn't really make a lot of sense to me at first since most of the names referre to the person's character or ability, but Land just means "land, country". But I guess he is called "Land" because he never left his home in the countryside, which is just as funny as finding out that he never actually showed up lol.
When Frieren anime ended, it feels like i lost a little part of me, goes away with the end of the series... *YES* This anime is *THAT GOOD*
And now that Carlie and Ange's reaction to Frieren ends... That feeling of losing something is back, and it hits kinda hard 🥲🥲🥲

I don't know why I cried especially at the end , I guess that's the beauty of frieren the little details the chill "insignificant" moments that makes this anime ( and life ) beautiful, I'm gonna miss this anime so much, it was such a beautiful journey and I had fun watching you two
Frieren is the only anime for a long time where it got me excited every week again waiting for the next episode. Before, I'm pretty much tired of anime for many years because i've watched so many animes and probably have watched 1000+ of them(i've been watching anime continously for almost 20 years). Especially when almost all of anime are following the same trope over and over again.
That's why even popular animes now that alot of people get hyped for like MHA, JJK, solo leveling, chainsaw man, demon slayer, etc. I can't even finish those because of how many generic tropes they have (it make sense though, why change the tropes if it still works right? They still make money doing those tropes) I can't even finish most of anime now i just ended up just watching 2 or 3 episodes i immediately get bored and stop watching.
That's why I'm happy that watching frieren somehow made me feel the joy of watching anime again.
If you also notice, when frien meets eisen and heiter and himmel, neither makes a big fuss over seeing themselves again after so many years. So they neither do fussy goodbyes or hello agains.

The End song actually change lyrics a bit compared to the first version during the first cour of the season and it works really well with what's happening with Frieren's development between the cours.

There is a similar line in the second season of an Italian TV Show about Salgari's "Sandokan, the Tiger of Malesia"
He was heading for a distant city in India, to reclaim his title. But he stopped in a tiny village of harvesters, that was harassed by bandits, to fight them. When asked why he decided to stop here doing so a futile and risky act for a tiny village and delay the main mission, he answered:
"How can I hope to attain great and far deeds, when I fail to help for little and near needs?"
So Sandokan was left behind, confronted the whole band, alone, destroyed them and was seriiusly injured. But this act had critical consequencies in the future, without them he would have failed.
1. Lernen made those golem in the flasks though, those "defensive" golem resist both magical + physical attacks (the drilling hair from Sense), are "prototypes" mind you. Imaging those golem attack. (ep 23, 24, 25)
2. Frieren's stone golem on the other hand, is capable of dancing (ep 5) and fighting another Frieren by absorbing and return amplified version of the lightning magic (ep 26).
3. Of course Denken is inspired by Frieren, he said the exact words when Frieren first met Serie: "The greatest joy of magic lies in searching for it." Which implying Denken is a fanboy of Frieren for years to be able to quote her (episode 21).
4. Or course Wirbel love a dark-haired girl with a red scarf around her neck, he's Jean from AOT afterall.
5. While Ehre was fighting Fern, she said "Fighting you felt like fighting my grandfather". True, Lernen spammed amplified Zoltraak to break Frieren's defensive magic shield while Fern spammed ordinary attack spells to force Ehre into defensive mode and draining Ehre's mana (ep20 vs ep26).
6. We see that specific "turn around and walk away" memory from Frieren (ep 1) during Himmel's burial scene. After that memory shot, Frieren cried as she thought they will never meet each other again.

Frieren is arguably perfect technically in every aspect. It's no surprise that it is rated so highly in MAL and also critically acclaimed, and not forgetting being part of a lot of people's top 10 anime of all time.
Yes, Lernen was the one who made the golems. Sense mentiones it before starting the second exam.
Himmel is also my fave 🥹 For me, he is the MVP of this season at least. That says so much given that he isn't alive anymore and all we saw were just recollections of him.

This anime is simply amazing and simply doesn't get the attention it deserves, but it is widely popular in Japan, like enough for it to get 6 seasons and a movie. It is a slice of life anime that deals with loneliness and social/self-acceptance with a central theme of the ability to see Youkai (supernatural spirits/entities in Japanese folklore). I would absolutely love to see you guys giving this anime a go! 🌸🌸

Frieren is a fckin masterpiece i tell you.
Ange is right. The character writing, pacing (for the most part), and payoffs were perfect. Made the eps fly by but meaningful. Some of the flashbacks/payoff scenes were Haikyuu level.
This show not having an antagonist isn't entirely true, because throught the whole show the antagonist was the time itself

Currently there are enough chapters to make another 28-episode season (According to logic, the second season could adapt from chapter 61 to 119). For the third, we manga readers are waiting for the end of the hiatus: currently the manga has 130 chapters, I sincerely hope it can resume publication soon.
And as a reader of the manga, I am looking forward to the second anime season.

Some fun facts and possible you already aware.
Season 2 hasn't been announced, I think it's very likely but not anytime soon. The manga was only 3 years old at the time of the anime starting and not enough material or barely enough to do a season 2 right away.
Lernen is actually the grandpa to the girl fern beat in the wirbel group. Also his name in German means to learn. Ubel means bad or evil. Another German word.
Serie is very much like frieren, in that she hasn't been able to fully understand her emotions and feelings for people. But she is aware. She just wants to deny it lol. Like Ange surmised.
The ending song especially is very telling. And the first one and second one..sound the same but the Lyrics are slightly different. So when or if you guys possibly do a review of the songs. They are different.
Himmel words are especially sad/sweet cause she's on her adventure to go meet him again at ende. Since they already explain that.
