Never underestimate the absolute psychological mayhem you can cause by mutating music. I'll be surprised if this doesn't have some James Kirby inspiration.
We human being are pattern-based creatures. We evolved to recognize the patterns of cause-and-effect for survival, and feel comforted when patterns behave in a way that is complex but ultimately recognizable. Stories follow patterns, music is entirely comprised of auditory patterns, and most humour is derived from a pattern changing in a way that is unexpected, but still makes sense.
It's when an established pattern starts to fracture that we experience tension and fear. Music is arguably the best way to do this, but it's also one of the trickiest, because if you just break the pattern it won't have much effect. Instead, you must maintain ENOUGH of a pattern for the mind to keep following along and TRYING to find the pattern, while quietly twisting it at certain points to ensure it never can.
The end result is, as you put it so well, "psychological mayhem."
the ambient part (runnin3) was stated by the creator of the track to be inspired by the caretaker

The "sold" sign at the end being from Navidson Realty is almost certainly a (very fitting) House of Leaves reference. What an excellent weird little (by which I mean enormous) WAD!

This map made me anxious as hell, but it’s such a beautiful experience.
This is so unlike what doom is, but it proves that all the gaming community would ever need is good mappers. Modern doom engines can be poked and prodded into doing just about anything.
Spooky or not, though, ya gotta admit this is genuinely well made in more ways than one
It really is incredible - the framing of it with the trail of forum posts going back months was really well done

This Wad is absolutely incredible. Totally blew my mind when I played it.
Fun fact: (I’m only 5 mins in so I apologize if you figure this out) but if you get the blue key and go through the exit it takes you to underhalls where you can get the ssg, and then the underhalls exit takes you back to myhouse.wad. Also something crazy happens if you get to the exit teleporter by noclipping
Also I got lost forever in the burned house so don’t feel bad. I’m glad to see you also had to raise the brightness.

There’s always so many more connections to the house to find
The other areas like the gas station, brutalist maze and airport has the exact same layout as the basic house.
Everything in this map has the same layout as the house. Turns out you were at home the whole time-you're just insane.

I just realised. You, the player, are the guy behind the curtain in the hospital. It's an out of body experience and you "shock" yourself back alive (also perhaps leaves room for "it was all a NDE" but 🤷🏻♀️)

Yes! My first workable map in Unreal Tournament was my school. Would probably have been arrested for that in the US
@@DavidXNewton lol my school’s architecture is way too linear for my interest (actually, it’s a church…) One of my first ideas was placing a big ol ugly pain elemental in my sister’s bedroom to represent, well, her. I told her and she was not amused 😂. But I think my house will be pretty challenging yet fun to make. It’s one of those old houses from the 50’s built with all sorts of hidey holes, tiny doors, and spare attics. Plus lots of forest and a river. Plenty of hiding places for demons…

This map has what appears to be polyobjects that do not have an infinite height. What sorcery is this!?!?! I need an adult 😃 And a tutorial quick sticks lol :) The ones I'm looking at in what I will call "the clinic" even have transparent windows! 🥳
Doom source ports added plenty of features that OG Doom just didn't have, like rooms over rooms, as well as water, mouselook, silent teleports, the whole shebang. When a game has 30 years of fan support behind it, this kind of evolution is inevitable.

That just shows how technically impressive this mod is. Blood is a game made in the Duke Nukem engine, so it’s from an almost completely different engine

Dog dying is an optional thing. You get a cute doggo at the real ending if you let this one live.

-- But I was freaking out quite a bit more and also sorta bee-lined to what looked like hard progress. So for instance I never found the secret vent thingies around the dog-yard or the bloody bathroom with the red pinkies.
@@DavidXNewton Oh actually I did find ONE thing you didn't. During the last "House still looks like an un-burnt house" cycle where the front door is gone. A thing where you go into one of the closets and it turns into an endless tunnel and the music fades out... ?
I wasn't brave enough to actually go all the way in, tho. I returned back to the house. Wonder if it would have >done< anything.

Now i have watched this video already, but i gotta say i'm impressed what people can do with older games sometimes. I've even come across Source mods or Gmod maps before who i didn't know was possible to make due to limitations.
I had assumed the killing of the good boy in your analysis series was simply a way to show off that aspect of the game, but upon closer inspection it appears that you are actually just completely heartless

I would recommend moving your mic further away from your keyboard. It has good audio quality, but picks up your keystrokes really easily.
This is probably intentional and also fine. It demonstrates he's actually playing rather than just doing a narration.
What if I told you that you haven't even seen half of the game? And that the way to really beat it has nothing to do with exiting the map?
Then I would go and hide under a blanket!

Sir, it appears your hand is on the wrong arm.
For this video I put the hand on backwards, the eyes upside down and a load of other glitches but the thumbnail is small enough that the hand stands out and just looks like a mistake!
