The sad fact for english speakers is that Falcos lyrics are so Amazing and tells you so much about what was going on in the big cities both in Germany and Austria at the time. I rate him on the same level as David Bowie and his Einzelhaft debut is still one of my fave records today. I can feel the wet street of Berlin and the blinking Neon and the sound of the nightclubs where the local guys and girls would try and find some kind of adventure to forget the tedious job at the local slaughter house chopping up cows for burgers or pigs for sausages. And some dodgy guy coming over to ask .Hey Joe...wanna buy some stuff mann ? 😊

I was in Germany in 1987. I travelled around the country as a teenager, finally stopping and living for a 6 weeks in a squat in Berlin. That city was an incredible place, as were the people in it.
I didn’t return until 2012. It broke my heart to see that the city I loved is basically gone now. Still, those who were there have the memories. I’m forever grateful to 80s Berlin for that.

Smashing Pumpkins has an album by that name. To use it in english would be... The movie Christiane F captures the zeitgeist of Berlin in the early 80's very well.
