Thanks, she's a good old truck. Thinking about white raptor coating to the doors to stop any more stone damage, the sides steps are helping a lot though
Best of luck on your western explorer. You’ve done so much of the east coast already. And seen so much of our country. Making incredible memories with your family.
For your front diff, change over to the Trail Safe inner axel seals. The OEM seal can wear a grove in the axel over time and the Trail safe seals have a different and multiple contact point, after 3 rebuilds in as many years, it is the only seal that has stopped mine from leaking! It's also been suggested that a leak can be caused if the shim stacks on the top and bottom king pins are not equal thicknesses.
Howdy Adam......I been looking around for one of the locks you have on your back doors for my GQ but no luck....can you remember where you got it from ?? or correct name or maybe a link etc .....and you have a awesome setup on this GQ I have a 1996 LWB TB42E and love it to bits......cheers
Hi mate love the content 👌 just a quick question how did you run the switch off the a/c iam in the process now of doing it and have no idea if you can help that will be great thanks 🍻👍
It's pretty simple, power off battery, to switch then piggy back wire to fan behind grille. Works great when needed. Could of times I've had to do work near radiator after a drive and run the ac fan for 10 minutes and you can safely touch the radiator without getting burnt
Hi Adam, I am exploring the idea of buying a 96 Patrol TD42 (turbo and intercooled) in excellent condition like yours. I'm just a bit concerned about the travel comfort for passengers. Currently I have a 2000 95 Series Prado with 2" lift and I feel like you feel every bump in the road. Our daughter has muscular dystrophy and struggles with the constant bumps and vibrations. Are these old Patrols the same? Is it something that can be fixed with better suspension? We are planning to do the Oodnadatta Track on the way to Alice this year and more tracks in the future so trying to find the best vehicle for our needs and as my daily driver too. Thanks in advance!
Hard to say because I've driven prado, but with a solid axel on the front of the patrol, it would probably be worse in the Nissan on high speed dirt roads. Might be better sticking with what you have and trying new softer coils first. Coils are relatively cheap and also what tyre pressure do you run? Might be worth dropping off a couple of psi to help with comfort ( even on the bitumen) and on dirt roads we drop down to 28psi and been down to 14psi for the Mitchell Falls road!
@@GoingOverland ahh tyre pressure, that could be the culprit. I do a fair amount of highway driving for work so am sitting up around 38-40psi. I'll have a go with that first. The old Prado is due for an engine rebuild and has an ever growing list of work needed doing to get it up to touring readiness. So another reason we're exploring Patrols (that have had all the work done to them already). Appreciate your thoughts and I enjoyed watching your setup demonstration. Cheers!
Hey mate, what did it cost you for the seat? Fuel economy towing vs touring. What's your GVM at the moment? What EGTs do you get towing vs touring? Sorry for all the questions. I run a gq td with a similar set up to you and I'm always curious.
With the new big trailer fuel consumption is up around 19-20L at 100km/h. Falls to 17L at 80ks. Egts max at around 550 up mountains. We are a little over gvm fully loaded with all the tanks full of diesel. Probably should think about a gvm upgrade but we can put a lot more weight into our trailer
Patrol sits a little over gvm fully loaded with all the tanks full of diesel. But we'll only fill the 2nd tank when we need. Trailer has a 900kg payload so most of the gear will go in that, it's max weigh is 2 tons, so no problem there
Yeah they are fantastic when offroad, I used to snap mounts all the time, but haven't done one since. Only downside is you have to get underneath car to connect/disconnect rear.
She sits a little over gvm fully loaded with all the tanks full of diesel. Plan is to only fill second tank when we need. Most of our gear will go in trailer.
Good question. I don't know. Has to have coil springs for 1. Thinking instead of spending big money on a new car and new setup, maybe a full rebuild on the patrol.
Would you say you have pretty much rebuilt the Nissan Patrol engine ? Sounds like it .. after 300,000kms in it. So glad you know about the mechanics as well. I would tag along with you guys any day. Just sayin ‘ 😃
@@noelenewoo8087 everything except for the engine internals which is expensive to do. But the patrol engine will do up to 1 million km if looked after. My dad's lasted 750k before someone crashed into it. Yeah definitely want to organise a weekend of overlanding and filming.

im slowly building my GQ to do full time traveling! so many ideas from this!

Thanks mate, I'll have to give them a go, I can see the passenger side starting to leak after only 6 months 👍
GQ/GU and 80 series, the 4x4 benchmark all others are measured against.
I went GQ TD42 turbo aswell. Love the dam thing and still can't explain why.
It gets into your blood. I now the feeling
Have a fantastic Adventure I’m sure your travels will be everything you want and heaps more. Love your GQ Td42 nothing but the best.
Thanks Peter. The old truck is a family member. Can't wait to hit the road, been a long time coming.
she's a keeper gq patrols are still one of the best looking weapon truck ever and just a tough looking beast 💪 👌
Thanks. Its definitely something worth keeping. Could not imagine taking any other 30 year old 4wd on a 30 000km trip.
Beautiful Patrol enjoy touring
Thanks for the support 😃
What a great set up guys.
Enjoy your trip 👍
Cheers mate. Everything is finally how I want it. Except we are having a big issue changing the pyrometer gauge 😱
Can I ask where you were able to get the second battery tray from ?
How much money have you spend on getting it ready?
Very clean GQ 👍
Cheers mate. Don't know what she'll look like when we get back 😆

It was from bunnings, it's from lockwood. I love it, so much peace of mind, everyone who's seen it has also agreed with me too

Place down at Underwood, on the service road next to hwy
