@@ChadSabourin The Irishman was sweet! I view Hugo>Who's That Knocking>Mean Streets>Goodfellas>Casino>The Irishman as Scorsese's stylistic evolution/semi autobiographic series. Dude putting Boxcar Bertha above mean streets, the colour of money and bringing out the dead is harsh. I did enjoy it for what it wa s it's far from terrible, but hardly holds a candle to those others. All those demonstrate Scorsese's strengths far better than Bertha did to me. My full ranking is on Letterboxd, but he has so many amazing films. Age of innocence is hugely underrated to me, shutter island hugely overrated as is GONY, my least favourite of his. Irishman and casino are my two favourites.
Yeah, it seems to be an unpopular opinion amongst Scorsese fans. Which I get it since many love Mean Streets. I think all of the ones that you mention are okay to solid. I did overall like them all. Although with your statement about Gangs of New York, I completely get that. I rewatched it recently and do feel as though it's only okay. Last time I saw Shutter Island, I liked it a lot, though. The Irishman is great.
Awesome ranking! I'm currently going through all the Scorsese films myself, most of which are first time viewings, and am excited to finish his complete filmography. For now, my favorite is Taxi Driver.
Thanks, man! Just wait until you see The Last Temptation of Christ: That film is super underrated. But yeah, Taxi Driver is such a well crafted film that still holds up & has inspired many films including some of my favorite such as Drive & You Were Never Really Here.

I saw the Last Temptation Of Christ 2 or 3 times but everytime I watch it, I find it so long and boring and I almost fall asleep everytime. I forgot to put Shutter Island on there. I didn't even realize that until about a month or so ago. To answer your question, it's #6, between Silence & The Aviator.
I can respect that. When I started doing the ranking lists, I made sure to say it was Theatrical films only (Streaming too). So no Music videos, short films, documentaries, etc. I'm sure The Last Waltz is good. It is after all Scorsese. Maybe I will give it a go!

I genuinely have no idea why people hold taxi driver at such a high reguard it was so boring and like barely anything happened and the ending made 0 logical sense
Chad Sabourin I didn’t hate it or anything I just don’t see the master piece at all and I wish it ended with the cops shooting him personally. It just didn’t feel right at all. Apparently the story is just about him saving this random chick that’s a prostitute or whatever but you don’t feel any connection between the two at all it just feels really weird and awkward and not like they are actually having a conversation. She seems happy at where she is and she literally screams at him to not shoot the last guy and he still does apparently and she starts crying but then the movie tries to tell you that everything is ok and then the newspapers try to call him a hero? Also the senator plot line was a complete waste of time that didn’t need to be in the movie and he survived a gunshot to the neck and somehow the girl goes home and is happier with her parents and he “Gets the girl” which is such a basic ass non creative ending that not enough people give it crap for. I’m not saying I didn’t have any fun with it but the ending was extremely weak and made no sense the relationships didn’t feel real (but maybe that’s the point) and it dragged on for a very long period of time where just about nothing happened.
@@xdlmao42 oh no, I wasn't saying that you hated it, just that you didn't like it. I don't think it's a masterpiece, but instead just a really well crafted film. But I'll be honest, I never really took any of what happened in the film literal. Just since a lot of it does seem like a fantasy for him. Every act of violence feels like it gives him purpose with what he wants to do, not what others want. And or he what he feels like they would want. I think the young prostitute story line is definitely something where you're not quite sure if it's real or not. To use a modern film example that takes influence, let's look at Joker, for instance: It's a ripoff of Taxi Driver for many reasons. But first & foremost, it has the unreliable narrator aspect, as well as things acts of violence where you're not totally sure if they actually happened or not. There's also a sub plot involving politics, an ending where you're not sure what to believe, etc. But I get why you didn't like Taxi Driver. Hopefully I was able to explain a bit about all that you said.
Chad Sabourin I don’t think joker is a rip off because they actually show him hallucinating and making up things in his head that are thought to be true in taxi driver those are all theories
@@xdlmao42 agree to disagree because Joker does have A LOT of moments where it's like "Hmm, I don't know if this is real or not & it's not made clear". Like him with the riots, him surviving getting hit in the back of the car, him being on top of the vehicle, shooting Murray, killing the person at the very end, etc. A lot of it is something you can take literally & or just question the reality of it...Same with Taxi Driver, in my opinion. I just don't take the things literally in both, for me.
How do Goodfellas and Wolf of Wall Street become less interesting in the 3rd act? That makes no sense. If it wasn’t for the 3rd acts those films would have no point.
Well, it doesn't make any sense to you. But to me, it does. From my point of view, both final acts aren't as strong as the first & second act of each film. A lot of this has to do with the tone not transitioning as smoothly as it should. Because of such, it feels a bit disjointed. Nonetheless, both are good, to me.
Love that you have The Last Temptation of Christ up so high! When I did this video, I was like "People are going to be surprised that I have that so high". But it's nice to see so many others have it up there too.
@@ChadSabourin Last Temptation was the last collaboration with Schrader Bringing out the Dead was written by Schrader but isn't really a collobaration, far more of a Scorsese movie with Schrader supplying a script. I think if they'd have stayed together on equal terms, Scorsese would now be considered the best director in the world. Mind you, he wouldn't be as rich or famous. Schrader unlike Scorsese, never sold out. But Schrader has never been as good without Marty either. A bit like Lennon and McCartney, niether of them are better apart. I mean your top three are all Schrader scripts
Oh, dang, which films do you think Scorsese sold out on? Just out of curiousity. Yeah, when the two worked together, they were really good. Although Paul Schrader's writing of First Reformed was really good.
@@ChadSabourin Scorsese sold out with the Colour of Money, I mean it bore no relation to his previous work. I mean if Scorsese hadn't directed it, would anyone have cared? He's done some interesting stuff since the Last Temptation of Christ, Goodfellas worked as a straight-forward slice of history - but really nothing with the intellectual weight of his early work with Schrader. Now just imagine if had directed some of Schrader's later work? It would have been complex, contradictory, probably not easy to watch - but serious heavyweight auteur film making.
@@JAMAICADOCK I can see where you're coming from. Although I can't lie that I do love some of Scorsese's later work such as The Irishman, Silence, The Departed, etc. Some of his later work has just been okay, but still, I get what you're saying. Hey, I still really like your list and completely get why you placed them in the order that you did. Glad to see The Irishman up so high. Such a great film.
@@ChadSabourin The Irishman was sweet! I view Hugo>Who's That Knocking>Mean Streets>Goodfellas>Casino>The Irishman as Scorsese's stylistic evolution/semi autobiographic series. So to finally see the Irishman come and sum up all of his skills, and sort of tell the end of Scorsese's story as a film maker was awesome.
No "The King of Comedy"? That film is AMAZING! It's very similar to "Joker" to me.

@@deeL59 oh yeah, I know I have a poster of that film, haha. I was just questioning why it was #1 because it's a Zack Snyder film. Although I did do a ranking list for him too!

@@ChadSabourin I agree, Scorsese is a very talented filmmaker. I saw the Last Temptation Of Christ 2 or 3 times but everytime I watch it, I find it so long and boring and I almost fall asleep everytime. Which is funny because I think Silence is amazing and both movies are slow and about the same run time.
His best films in my opinion are Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, The King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Casino and The Departed with Raging Bull being the top spot

Hi! Can you rank Edgar Wright’s filmography?
Dude...It's so funny that you requested that since I finished filming my ranking list of his about ten minutes ago, haha. But I'm not going to lie, it won't be out until December since I have set up ranking videos for Jason Reitman, Sergio Leone, M Night Shyamalan, Spike Jonze, Joe Wright, etc for the next couple of months until the Edgar Wright ranking video comes out. I try to spread them out. But don't worry, I got you!
Chad Sabourin nice
My favs are Goodfellas and Raging Bull, but the man shits out masterpieces.
He really is such a talented filmmaker. He definitely influenced one of my favorite filmmakers: Paul Thomas Anderson.
shutter Island? did you rank it.
I forgot to put Shutter Island on there. I didn't even realize that until about a month or so ago. To answer your question, it's #6, between Silence & The Aviator.
Scorsese has made alot of good movies main popular is Goodfellas Taxi Driver and The Departed Casino is overrated.
I can definitely respect that!
I know it's a documentary, but there should always be love for "The Last Waltz"... It is that good.
I can respect that. When I started doing the ranking lists, I made sure to say it was Theatrical films only (Streaming too). So no Music videos, short films, documentaries, etc. I'm sure The Last Waltz is good. It is after all Scorsese. Maybe I will give it a go!
@@ChadSabourin yeah I caught that stipulation in your intro. So I completely understand why you didn't include it. However, it is still worth watching even if you're not into classic rock so to speak.

7. The Wolf of Wall Street 8/10
8. The King of Comedy 8/10
9. Hugo 8/10

Very good list, man! Hey, seeing nine Scorsese films is still pretty good considering that it's tough to view all of his films.
thanks for the ranking video.
I genuinely have no idea why people hold taxi driver at such a high reguard it was so boring and like barely anything happened and the ending made 0 logical sense
Dang, sorry that you didn't like it. I personally think it's a great character study that had a huge influence on Cinema.
Where is shutter island
Look at my pinned comment, haha. I accidentally forgot it when I was filming.
Chad Sabourin Fair enough. To me the second act of Wolf was by far the worst but I see where you’re coming from. It’s subjective, after all.
