    Thanks for the vid. I just tried this, all I had to do was remove the bottom tray, cut out part of it to fit the new battery, and that was it. Easiest hack ever and didn't have to buy any additional materials.

    I never would have guessed that the metal tray for the battery would be attached to the car's body with threaded fasteners. I would have guessed that Honda would have welded it in place.

    Thanks for the video. I think my 2015 LX is going to need a new battery for the 2021-2022 winter. I had no idea that the stupid nylon cap at the top of the left J-hook (at 2:18) just _pulls_ off. I spent several months trying to unscrew it! It has a 10mm or so hex. It looked to me like a nut. Looking like a nut, It looked to me like it needed to be unscrewed, using a wrench. Nuts!

    I just got done installing a bigger battery in my 2008 Honda Fit. I got the NAPA "THE LEGEND PREMIUM" 740 CA/590 CCA. H: 6.75". W: 6.75". L: 9". BCI # 96R, NAPA # 8496R. I have it running lengthwise from the fuse box to the air cleaner. It fits perfect! Nice and snug! This is the direct fit battery that Napa had installed in my 2005 Mustang 4.0L

      If you can get a 96R in there, you should be able to get a group 35 to work. A Group 35 LxWxH is 9 1/16 x 6 7/8 x 8 7/8......same height as a 151R with 640 CCA.

    I just did my 2016 Honda Fit. No problem. The 51R dropped right in the battery tray. I bought the car used. So I don't know if a previous owner put in a bigger battery tray or Honda put in a bigger battery tray that year. The 51R is just about the same size as the 151R except it's a couple inches longer. You would think since the 51R easily fits Honda would have made that the OEM battery. More stores carry the 51R than the 151R. I got an Interstate 51R at Costco for $123.99 plus tax and $15.00 core charge.

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  3 месяца назад +1

      It could have been from Honda. Depending on the year and where they manufactured the car, they could've used extra Civic or Accord battery trays that were lying around.

  • @sammq4499

    just to know that the plastic tray is not to hold the battery, but to protect the body from battery acid just in case it got out of the battery, that's why it's made of plastic with no holes, i like your work but if the plate has holes that acid can leak from then it has no point.

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  3 года назад +6

      You are correct. The battery tray is designed to catch battery acid.
      The Optima Yellow tops are designed not to leak, and you can mount them in any position you like.
      I had a decision of "Do I buy a regular 51R battery and try to find an OEM battery tray from a Civic or Accord that will fit the 51R with out modification or do I buy a Optima battery with a pricey aftermarket battery tray" I had no luck at the junk yard and the prices for a OEM Civic & Accord battery tray cost more then the optima tray did so I went the Optima route.

      @@HondaFit4Adventure Right. AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries are self-contained and never need to be topped-off with distilled water like standard Lead-Acid car batteries. Check out Project Farm's video comparing various batteries.

    That’s so cool man! What’s the price on this battery? CCA? I just picked up a battery last month, the original was A8 (January 2018) so not as long lasting as your stock battery. Hope your yellow top lasts you for a long time! Keep making videos man!

    All I heard about the battery tray was, "It's expensive, so is the stock battery, save yourself $200 and just don't bother getting a matching tray"

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  Год назад +1

      Yes the Optima and OEM battery trays are expensive.
      If you upgrade to the standard 51R Sealed Lead Acid battery, you still should be using a battery tray. This helps reduce vibrations to the battery and catch any acid if leaking or overcharged.
      You could find a Honda Civic battery tray or make your own out of some scrap aluminum for around $20.
      Since I attend car shows and show off the engine bay, I went with the $100 Optima Battery tray which gives the engine bay a cleaner look by deleting the battery tie-down and allows me to reposition some wires.
      The $200 battery tray was not an option at the time. That tray seems way better from an install and removal stand point.
