Yes you are right. Many people can’t afford these expensive appliances. Whirlpool does make good appliances as far as any brand goes and cheaper, too. Same with some other brands. Now for people who want more that is fine, too. But I know many are trying to save money today so let’s look at cheaper models in cooktops and refrigerators such as top freezer models which last longer due to fewer part problems. And cooktops under 600 work fine. Ovens for 750 to 1500 are enough to satisfy most needs. And as far as the best Washer and dryer it’s Speed Queen and I know. I have one and mine will outlast any set by 10 years or more. If only we could stop this damn outsourcing and we can if we hold Congress accountable. Then we’d get appliances that would last 25 to 30 years again!

As a pro appliance tech in my own businss. I appreciate the short term reliability information, however I usually do service on out of warranty appliances. You should provide reliability information for as many years as you have been in business. One year is almost meaningless, 10 years would be truly valuable for consumers. In the last 4 months I have gotten 5 LG fridges 4 of them had internal leaks and 2 of the 5 had compressor failures. So I advise my customers not to purchase LG fridges. In other words, do long term survey of your service invoices. And do a video "Most reliable appliance brands period". That would be truly valuable. I would create another channel to do this.

I never had a freon leak until the last 2 and both of them had leaking evaporators. The repair techs that I have had here have all said the quality of these appliances are horrible and these companies are producing total JUNK. I don't need all the fancy stuff and be able to control them with my phone I just want and need something that will last. You start a channel and I will follow you. They all make the first year. It is down the road we need to know about. And it isn't minor stuff. It is stuff so big that they are too expensive to repair.

Had a good friend who owned a major appliance repair business in Orange County, CA after he left the Marines, until retiring. I used to go to appliance auctions with him in the 1970s. Larry did in home/business in home and in shop repairs, plus selling appliances he rebuilt in his shop. He always bought Whirlpool or Kenmore (made by Whirlpool then) because he could always get parts and they were easier to service.
He offered a good warranty on all the machines he rebuilt, replacing key components when rebuilding or repairing machines. Larry had the parts he replaced no matter what in rebuilt machines mounted on a display board on the wall.
My wife worked for him in the office/shop routing calls, ordering parts and more. She took a course from Whirlpool on repairing washers and dryers that had to be signed off on by a licensed repair shop that required her to actually rebuild/repair a washer and dryer. When she finished, we bought the machines and used them for decades.
Larry is a stand up guy and as honest as anyone could be. Those who did business with him were lucky.

Come to find out several people had the exact same repair problem. I used to never purchase the extended warranty but always do now. After paying for the extended warranty and the sales tax I could almost purchase another washing machine. Companies no longer care about keeping customers nor do they care about quality any longer. For refrigerators, stay away from LG and Samsung, ge and Whirlpool seem to be okay but I'm seeing more and more problems with the newer models being pushed out. Our heavy duty Kenmore washer and dryer came with the house 35 years ago and still working like new. Sure there have been repairs and parts but essentially they are tanks. • @Grimenoughtomaketherobotcry

They don't and that's because more reliable and longer lasting mechanical parts have been replaced with much cheaper, therefore more profitable, electronics. My Kenmore washer had a dial you would pull toward you and turn to set the desired wash cycle, then push it in to start it. When it finally died, I replaced it with a GE. I chose it because it appeared to have minimal electronics. But it had a push-button starter that wore out within a year. I was told that the button itself couldn't be replaced-the entire masterboard had to be swapped out, for $300! I got rid of it and bought a Whirlpool, which runs well and isn't nearly as noisy as the GE, especially when on spin cycle. However, it also has a push-button start.

Because I did a huge amount of research on the brand before I purchased the entire suite - 6 burner gas range-top, double wall ovens, refrigerator, dishwasher - for my kitchen. I also bought Miele stackable European sized (24” wide) washer and dryer for my laundry room. I’m thrilled with everything! Our appliance repair guy recommended “replace it with a brand you grew up with.” My father worked for GE for many years and that’s all we ever used. Same issue with Samsung. I'm surprised they are well rated in this video as almost everyone I know, including myself, who's owned a Samsung appliance, has found them to be lass reliable than most. I know that apocryphal stories aren't always an accurate reflection of reality but I would have to dig deep among people I know who would have anything good to say about them: especially their microwaves. My over-the-range microwave failed two months after the warranty ended and it wasn't worth fixing.

@@grantrichards4950 I've had 2 recent Samsung French Door refrigerator units quit on me - both after just 2 years - both with sealed system leaks. So no more Samsung for me. However, Samsung did replace the original failed unit after I bitched continuously for 6 months. When the second French Door failed in exactly the same way after another 2 years, Samsung gave me my money back, plus a bit extra. So my feelings about Samsung are complicated. The real tragedy is that the service industry has stopped doing sealed system repair.

I have been in the Appliance business for 40 years, and one of the worst things to happen is putting software on appliances. Now the given reason is to improve energy savings. The energy savings may be useful, but only to a small degree, but it is touted as a financial benefit to the customer. But highly influenced machines with software cost extra money,, and the energy saving do not save much money if the unit needs repair, because cost to repair is expensive and eats up any money saved on energy use many times. Way too many appliance parts are made in China, and are made as cheaply as possible to increase factory profits, but then when you need a repair, the parts can be very expensive or not available because of being discontinued. I believe much of this is planned, because lets face it, factories stay open only when they can keep shipping new units to stores, there is no real incentive to repair anything past the warranty.

I have had only one call over the years for a refrigerator on my rentals, and it was just for condensation overflow from the drip pan. That fridge is still in service after a little adjustment. By far, the appliance type I get the most calls for is dishwashers. Next is clothes washers. Last is ranges, usually for burnt out elements, which is easy to diagnose and repair. I like to buy very popular traditional brands such as Whirlpool because parts are readily available dirt cheap. I bought a Samsung dishwasher once. It was very nicely put together, but service was not easily available. When a repairman couldn't repair it after a couple visits, I ended up dumping it and getting a Whirlpool.

The unit had no issues, except the buttons weren't all working, and the clock would get stuck, so would need to stop and press drain, it would not automatically go to drain mode, was strange. My LG washer and dryer are 14 years old and still basically like new. No repairs. I was surprised to see GE at the top of the list. My GE microwave, installed with a new house, failed twice so I don't have a good impression of GE. There was also a safety recall on my GE dishwasher. I bought a Bosch dishwasher second hand. I had problems with it, but can't blame that on Bosch necessarily. I did learn that I hate the way Bosch's load. You do it their way or no way at all; particularly on the bottom rack. I replaced it with a new Whirlpool which we love. It is very roomy and we can load it practically any way we like; particularly the bottom rack. (straight tines) My 14 year old Kenmore (Whirlpool) refrigerator keeps going strong. I do have ice maker problems at times. I've learned to simply replace the whole damn thing whenever it starts having problems. A little electric part that closes the ice door failed, but I fixed it will little hassle. I rather have an ice maker than not.

I bought my current home nearly 4 years ago, all appliances were included. The hot water heater is thought to be " original " making it nearly 25 years old...if true. The rest of the house is furnished with a mix of brands. The GE refrigerator has been flawless...so far, though it is a " no frills " model. The dishwasher is Maytag, and because I live alone it was only used once, to see if it worked. The washer and dryer are older Whirlpool units. The dryer MAY be getting on in years as it seems to have trouble drying heavier loads as quickly as it used to. The stove is also Whirlpool and again seems okay.
To sum up: ALL these appliances, save the dishwasher, are low frills, pretty much analogue designs, that have given no indication that they are about to die. The refrigerator has no icemaker, an occasional inconvenience, but it also doesn't leak all over the floor. My experiences with this washer and dryer, and the same or nearly the same model in my old house, are that they are near bulletproof and the only breakage was a knob on the control panel.
Unfortunately, no matter whether it's home appliances or cars, manufacturers have added extra features that lower the reliability and raise repair costs.

Since these appliances are provided where I am renting I gave them to the new owners. I personally think that most of the new appliances are junk. The washers don't give you enough water and all of them have a computer board for operation. If this board goes out, and they frequently do, it will cost you 2-3 hundred to replace this China-made thirty-dollar board.

It was 13 months old when suddenly the oven would not come on and the display readout showed an error code. Long story short, the repairman pulled the back of the stove off and you could plainly see a broken plastic piece that holds the wires to the oven. The repairman said this sort of thing happens frequently during shipping and he was surprised it had not failed sooner. He replaced the piece and all was well. I also bought Samsung's amazing washer and dryer set and they are superb. The LG kitchen appliances replaced Amana's radar range and refrigerator and GE dishwasher- all over 20 years old and still working! The Maytag w/d set was also 20 years old. I was rather shockedto learn that the $900 Whirlpool used the same part and the quotes were $300+ to repair the washer. There were way more than a few complaints about this problem. Seem a convient way to turn a 900 washer into a 1200 one, and also a backhanded way or gettiing folks to upgrade from their $200 machines.

You can tell they are just slapping things together with very little quality control. The protective cover on the lower door of the refrigerator was covered in glue. It was stuck to the door and would not come off. Waited 6 weeks and got a new door for free. It has the insulating foam coming out of several joints all of the it. The gas stove, if you pull the knobs off you see the post is off center badly on every one. I have to adjust one myself as it was rubbing so bad it was tough to turn. Dishwasher is great. And let's not forget, so many of these companies are made by the same manufacturer, just different look. Swapped my girlfriends 10 year old LG over the range microwave for a GE. Once I pulled it I notice the back bracket is exactly the same. Then discovered the top mounting bolts were in the same exact place at the LG. Was very nice for replacing at least as I didn't have to drill any new holes.

I own a working International Harvester chest type deep freeze that my parents bought in 1950. In that time the door seal has been replaced more than once and my father replaced a thermocouple about thirty years ago, but that's all. Still works great and it is a beast.

I agree Heather. Boy or Boy. I miss Sears and their products. I have a 19 year old Kenmore fridge that I have never had a problem with, bought at the same time Kenmore stove with a few minor problems. One was the detachable oven door, I am a senior lady and I got it detached to clean the oven but did not have the strength to hold it in place to re-attach it. I also have Kenmore portable air condidtioner for about 10 years and no problem. My Kenmore vaccumm bought 25-30 years ago worked very well, no problems until now the power head needs replacement and I dread having to buy a new one. The only brand names mentioned in this video that I even recognize are GE and Whirlpool. Twenty-five years ago I bought a set of Whirlpool washer and dryer. They were excellent. As the years have progressed new Whirlpool products are lousey. I live in senior apartments and about 4/5 years ago the building bought new Whirlpool coin operated washer and dryer. The so called water saver washer does not get enough water to wash the clothes properly and this causes your clothes to wrinkle so bad you can't even iron the wrinkles out or put a enough fabric softner to get rid of the wrinkles, no matter what the fabric softner manufacturer say. Bring back reliable appliances/products.
But like the service men said the products are NOT made to to last BECAUSE THEY WANT YOU TO BUY NEW ONES.

Our refrigerator is slowing dying and we need another refrigerator now. Because I have a Kenmore now, of course, we went to Sears first. What a joke! After spending an hour on hold I got an animated (auto-bot) representative. After doing the "press number" thing I finally got to talk to a real person, who asked me first of all, "Did I have a Sears Warranty?". When I replied no, he told me to call another number for service. And, of course, you know what I got? The number was exactly a round about number to the same auto-bot number that I started out with. Our old Kenmore did last 16 years and do not expect that with these models they are turning out now will. Service, as well as reliability is a gone passed era. Too bad.

We have a very large home, with a very large kitchen and laundry rooms to accommodate my wife, two children, and both my parents and my wife's parents, and my younger brother with his wife and two young children and two sisters in law- 14 people total. So we have a kitchen with two 25 cubic feet refrigerators, one is an Amana top freezer, and the other a Whirlpool French door, two 20 cubic feet Kenmore Chest freezers one Bosch dishwasher and one Whirlpool dishwasher four identical Panasonic Convection microwave ovens and two 8"deep sinks with Delta fawcets. My laundry consists of one Maytag Commercial washer and a GE washer, one GE dryer, one whirlpool dryer and one Roper-Estate dryer. The most recent purchase was the the Bosch, and I already have it for three years now, and so far no problem at all. And all the other appliances at home are working well, some after 25+ years like the Amana, the Kenmore freezers, the Maytag, the Whirlpool dishwasher and Whirlpool dryer. The rest have between 10-20 years of use and never had a problem ever. All of them are White color except for the French door. We made the decision of buying them during the years by using a team approach with most members of the family who did research of them by visiting several repair shops as needs arose. We did not have internet as advanced as it is now, so we did that personally. We are a happy bunch with what we have!!!!! Our next major purchases would be EV cars hopefully!!!!

I had a $2000+ Samsung french door refrigerator, it lasted four years and the water/ice in door died, then a year later the refrigeration quit working. EVERY repair I called, told me parts weren't available, I called Samsung, and they were right....I was told the parts were not made anymore. I've switched back to Whirlpool and Maytag. It's sad (af) that the old, saying, "They don't make 'em like they used to", is truer than ever. When I was a kid, teenager, young adult, we had the same refrigerator for (at least) a good 10 or 12 years. We had a chest freezer in my parents house that was at least 25 years old. I know it's the only freezer we ever had..........and only got rid of it because my mother went into an assisted living facility. Freezer still worked perfectly fine. One of my sisters has a refrigerator that came with her house, brand new from the builder in 1987 (she also owns a 1990 BMW that has less than 80,000 original miles on it, as she has a company car), and a clothes dryer that is older than that. Now that I think about it, my other sister has the same refrigerator from when she moved into her house in 2000.
I am not mechanically inclined, but I would bet that appliances are just like cars. Components, gears, and whatnot, that used to be made out of steel............due to extreme heat and whatnot, are now made of plastic. Not an engineer, but high heat + plastic=No bueno.
Meanwhile, my GE refrigerator which came with my house, is about 10 years old..............and stopped working last week. Womp. Womp.

LG has the worst compressor on the market. I get calls on those all day in my current job and replaced over a thousand compressors in the 4 years I worked for LG(horrible company to work for, but great benefits) Samsung French doors with in-door ice dispensers have ongoing icemaker issues due to their design. If I had to buy one of the 2 I would get a Samsung French door with no dispenser on the door for refrigeration. LG front load pair for laundry and range and wash my dishes by hand then buy a dishwasher from either of them currently.

I built my house in 2013. Bought all new stuff. My experience is they all make total JUNK.
Whirlpool Washing Machine replaced in 2019- tub not draining property
Frigidaire top/bottom refrigerator evaporator leaking, too expensive to repair- Replaced in ~4.5 years
Whirlpool top/bottom replacement in 2014, evaporator leaking, too expensive to repair. Replaced ~ 3.5 years in 2021
GE top/bottom replacement in 2021, ???? hasn't been delivered yet. To be determined ??????
Carrier HVAC heat pump system- CONSTANT ISSUES and breakdowns. About every 2 years it is something. Last year it was a $1200 fan motor.
I am on my 3rd lawn mower. Most don't make it 2 mowing seasons. I am currently using a Kobalt 80v and it seems to be doing well so far. A lot better than the gas powered ICE mowers I had before. The first one was an expensive TORO. It has so much cheap plastic crap that always broke and I had issues with the cabling that controlled the blade/brake.
I just want stuff that will LAST. I never ever in 40 years had a refrigerator leak freon until the last 2. I used to buy appliances and use them for 20-30 years. Now they are lucky to make to 5. I find this level of quality to be totally UNACCEPTABLE. All these companies these days seem to care about is how cheap they can make them so they can make the most profit so they can buy back shares to enrich the CEO at the top with MILLIONS in stock options while their customers and employees get screwed all the while they get huge freaking tax cuts. We need better consumer protection laws that will force these companies to make better stuff.
Appliance companies are making the same mistake the auto industry made in the 70s. I have very little trouble with my cars thanks to Honda and Toyota forcing GM and Ford to up their game. Maybe the same thing needs to happen today in the appliance industry. I don't need all the bells and whistles. I just need stuff to last. I am retired and on a fixed income and I can't afford to keep buying the same stuff every 4 years.

I initially thought this to be an informative video until he listed GE as #1. I bought a GE Profile Series refrigerator, stove and microwave. The ice makers NEVER lasted a full year, the refrigerator kept forming ice on the interior walls and the compressor died about 5 years later. The stove's oven temperature was way off and it failed after 7 years. The microwave makes a lot of noise and vibrates horribly. I've always had GE refrigerators, was unimpressed and had many problems. I'll never buy a GE product again.

My basic Whirlpool Refrigerator (no ice maker) - lasted 24 years. I replaced the Whirlpool Refrigerator 2 years ago - with another Whirlpool Refrigerator - and the salesman told me it will last around 8 years.

I've got a bit of experience with this. Stay away from Viking for your range. They fail a lot, parts often are not on hand and the amount of service techs are limited. I've had two that need major repair. Took months. Dishwasher, I like Bosch a lot. Cleans good and reliable. However, there is no heating element so if you don't like damp dishes I say GE or Whirlpool. Fridge Subzero is the best. They are very robust. I've had one for 10 years and no issues.
I've learned the "high end" appliances are most a pretty face and lots of problems.

Great video and I like that you relied on your store ales and service records. I remodeled my kitchen in 2017 and retired my 30 y.o. Whirpool refrigerator at that time. IT was a simple 16 cf single door/freezer on top model, no icemaker or other fancy stuff. I'd had it at four different residences. Never had a problem with it, it just ran-and-ran-and ran. New refrigerator (and other appliances) are all GE and are simple with not a lot of features. 4 years have passed and no problems with any of them. My view is look at reliability studies like this RUclips video from Yale and those on other sites to find what's reliable. You'll see that the more features you get, the more potential for problems you'll find.

Depends on the product. I went with GE new appliances for the Slate color not thinking about the reliability. My new GE slate dishwasher lasted 3 years before the water pump went up. Based on reviews on this channel l bought a Bosch integrated dishwasher and added a custom panel because I didn’t want mismatched metals. My Slate GE range hood went up after 4 years. Did research and bought a Fotile range hood in black. I will cover it with a custom hood to paint to match my cabinets eventually. The slate GE refrigerator and stove are still holding up fine after 6 years.

I junked a Samsung fridge which had an inherent flaw that caused it to freeze up and stop flowing cold air to the fridge. Replaced it with a GE that WORKS. I've also seen a ton of issue with Samsung fridges with icemakers that turn into igloos. We love our LG washer and dryer, the first washer lasted 14 years, but their refrigerators, until they prove they've fixed that linear compressor, are toxic.
